Cap toe or no cap toe? I have to go with... mostly "No".

At a young age I had a very small foot. I'm in my 20's with a size 7 shoe. Even in Chicago I was having a hard time finding shoes. I had a pair of cap toe dress shoe and quite frankly it tore the skin off my right big toe. So I tend to stay away from the cap toe shoe. You're point on with the Wingtip in Dark Oak. I'm about to turn 62, and I think those boots look awesome. Going with those and a pair of suede chukkas in then cognac. Currently have a pair of Presidents in Az Adobe. Great boot, only took a few times of wearing them to get a good comfortable feeling.

I was hoping for cowboy boots in the list. I live in Texas but grew up in Oklahoma wearing cowboy boots. I gave up my low-quarters for business wear and now exclusively wear cowboy boots. For casual wear with jeans and a sport coat I go with more "every day wear" cowboy boots. Always clean, polished, and serviceable. I don't wear a cowboy hat, though. Around Texas, wearing cowboy boots barely registers notice. When I travel beyond Texas and the American south they catch a lot of interest and commentary. Some of the commentary, particularly from international tourists, have some interesting ideas about cowboy boots and associate some curious stereotypes. They are frequently surprised that I work in tech and don't farm/ranch. They do add a few inches of height, too.

Thursday Boots make some beautiful footwear, and I own a pair of their Presidents (plain toe) in brown. One super-important thing to note about them is that they don't come in narrow widths. I'd buy additional pairs from Thursday boots, because they really are reasonably priced and look nice, but they don't fit me as well as Allen Edmonds' boots which come in multiple widths. (AE's Dalton boot is one of my favorites, but it's a lot pricier than the Thursday boots). If you have normal or wide feet, give those Thursdays a try, but like everything else Antonio discusses, fit is key.

In my opinion: Cap toe for brown boots. Brown is a more casual color than black anyway so the cap toe, being a more casual design, is better suited to brown boots than black. Black boots look more formal so the cleaner design of having no cap toe matches the more formal aesthetic of the black boots better. Of course this is all my opinion and not a hard and fast rule.

I usually don't like lace up boots. They get tougher and tougher to get on my feet. I've tried a Caterpillar boot for 3 days straight and on the last day I literally had to remove the laces to get my foot to slide in.
The Chelsea boot is closer to my style, but I am not a fan of the elastic on the sides, that tends to detract from the look of the boots.
I prefer the look and feel of a cowboy boot. There are many designs, colors, and fits that make the boot worth wearing. Some boots can go from dressy to casual without changing them out for another pair. If you find the right pair, you can wear them day in and out without thinking they are on.

    • @ronpruitt3832
      @ronpruitt3832 2 года назад +1

You shouldn’t wear a pair of shoes day in and day out. Shoes should not be worn on consecutive days. To prolong the life of the leather, they need to have a chance to air out and dry. You should put shoe trees in them when they are not being worn to lengthen the life of the shoe and help it maintain its shape. Shoe trees also help prevent deep creases across the vamp.

Looking for my first pair and this company seems to be the one. So my question is if i went with a 5 eye low ankle boot like in the video. (Cadet on their website ) Let’s say black. Could i wear these with say black denim or a suit ? Will they work for both. I’m 50 and in front of clients for finance and looking to step it up. Thansk. Mike in Michigan.

I prefer the no cap toe boot and have the Presidents in brown. For versatility, though, I have the cap toe Captains in neutral. Oh, and I also have Thursday Boots’ honey suede Chelseas. That should cover me for about any situation.

I’m not wild about the subject of this video. I could wear any boot you had in this video at my age (66 years old). What I consider when choosing my footwear is how does it coordinate with my outfit, the formality of the occasion, and possibly the weather. You also made a couple of mistakes. When discussing the open and closed lacing systems, you said a boot with a open lacing system is a brogue. You should have said it was a derby. A brogue is a shoe that has the decorative pinking (zig zag cut on the edge of the leather) and perfing (the holes punched in the leather). An Oxford is a shoe that has a closed lacing system. A brogue can be an Oxford and an Oxford can be a brogue. They made a similar mistake in a scene in the Kingsman: The Secret Service movie. I know that you know what broguing is as later in the video you were pointing out the decorative broguing on a boot. You also mispronounced jodhpur. You said something like Joe-di-per. It is jod-per.

Exactly, why should it be according to age?.. so even if you like the boot you can't wear it anymore?.. This guy has a great channel and he himself is a good guy... I'm in my thirties and I like all those boots timberland and Redwing moctoe too and I respectfully disagree cos I've seen much older guys wear the first boot and it just depends on how you rock it...

All I know is there’s no such thing as an age-appropriate boot. The idea sounds strange.

I was looking for someone to correct the improper usage of brogue lol. The video was basically one big add.

Well I never picked a 6 inch dress boot because of style,it was due to ankle support shank and the fact I don't have to worry about dress sock color. Also your socks don't get wet in minor puddles.Used to get redwings but they declined in giving me a comfortable stand all day on concrete so I need better build boot.

Unless the cap toe is a functional (extra) layer, is stay with the stronger & weatherproof plain toe.

I personally am not a big fan of toe caps or brogueing. toe caps is just personal preference, that something extra to repair/replace, a hang up point, and I just like a plan surface look.
brogueing, don't get me wrong, it can look very nice, but it just gets gunked up quicker, it's harder to clean because of how they're usually made these days, I find them ultimately impractical. I know, formal is supposed to be formal, but I like practical formal in case certain situation arise.

I love cap toes on boots. When is Thursday going to make a Oxford style boot??? A nice Oxford boot with slim sole and cap toe. Something similar to a Frye Paul Balmoral lace up boot…
