Best Value: Grant Stone Best Built: Viberg and John Lofgren (call it a tie..) Best Best: Edward Green. Grant Stone, as you know, always punches classes above its weight and is worth every dime. Viberg and EG won't get much attention because of their price but it's hard to argue with their quality, the lasts, and their fit. This is the golden age of Chelseas, just so many excellent ways into this style. I much enjoyed your list.
I live in Buffalo and have met Andrew on a couple of occasions. He's a great guy who is passionate about the boots he produces. I have the Elmwoods in black and they have broken in beautifully. They can be worn with jeans, chinos, or dress pants and I would highly recommend them.
I have a video idea for you. I use to work at a men’s store that sold Barbour jackets. We also shipped our customers coats to England for rewaxing. One day a Barbour rep came into the store and told me something amazing…the Barbour service department can customize your jacket in a big way. The list of customizable options is endless. Want a leather collar, they can do that. Want leather elbow patches, they can do that as well. Shiny new buttons? Sure… It’s a massive list of options. I send my Bedale in every two years for rewaxing and take the opportunity to customize my coat. I’ve, added elbow patches and leather trim around the the ends of the sleeve already. This year I”m adding black leather trim to the bottom seam of the coat. Anyway, seems up your alley….love the channel
I waited 6months, but it’s the best quality and fitting boot I’ve owned. For reference I’ve owned Allen Edmonds, Indy boots, whites service boot, and carminas. Benzein far and away the best
Yes, whatever formula they’re using after they take your raw data it works great. When I bought my whites from bakers boots I ended up having to send them back, the custom realm is truly a difficult art. My favorite part about Benzein is their last. It’s just perfect. Everyone else at my job wears RM Williams and for about the same price getting Benzein is truly a no brainerif you can stomach the wait
Not trying to hijack the video, but Nick have you ever done or will you ever do a review on Wootten Boots here in Melbourne? It seems they're a bit of a hidden gem and a good alternative to RM Williams. Love the content mate, keep it up!
I thought the same… to me Grant Stone Chelseas are among the best looking, and quality is top notch. I own their waxed suede and brown calf versions and love them. However their fit is a bit loose. I’d like to try Parkhurst’s Chelseas but they’ve become too expensive. I might try Benzein down the road
I'd say Beckett Simonon's Silva Chelsea is kind of an underdog for a really balanced boot- pull up leather and a visibly treaded sole, but with their iconically handsome, sleek silhouette. Also fully waterproof and resolable; tough to beat for less than $300.
Great video Nick, some really nice looking Chelseas for sure. Been wearing the Astirflex Bitflex for a few months now and absolutely love them. I got them in the smooth tan leather, with leather soles, very similar look to the Taylor Stitch. NO more crepe soles for me....they look awful VERY quickly Extremely well made, short break in and super comfortable. I get complimented every time I wear them. Very reasonably priced for the quality.
I haven't watched your channel in years but I've been looking for some boots lately. Maybe Chelsea or maybe the Red Wings Blacksmith. Love your channel!
I’ve been awaiting for a video about Chelseas for a while! Great to see new brands to check out. And I’m glad to see a snapshot of Taylor Stitch ranch Chelseas, which I own and love the color and quality(fit is a bit weird). I think Grant Stone deserved a mention, their Chelseas are very good looking
Idrese! Helped my feet a lot due to my extra wide feet. They offer EEE, so if you have wide feet like me give them a try. I’m happy to see them here, I feel so validated 😂
First time on the channel. Subscribed. Thanks fir this breakdown. I have to ask though, why no Church’s chelsea option on your list? Handmade in the UK still, durable, stylish.
Great video, I'm a fan of your content and you've turned me on to brands I've heard of, yet never seriously considered. I was wondering whether you or any of your subscribers have any feedback on Meermin Chelsea suede or leather water resistant/waterproof boots?
Truthfully I found the design a little stumpy, it's a great boot but at that price and that look it was between them and Parkhurst, which I liked more. But Parkhurst are terrible at keeping boots in stock. I def recommend Grant Stone
Thank u for your honesty review.Have you ever had to change the elastic side panel Goering on a Chelsea boots? Is it a good idea? When is a good time to do so?
I think you missed one . Meermin Chelsea’s are whole cut , leathers from the best tanneries in the world , leather Goodyear welts, leather midsole , cork filling and British outsoles for around 250 dollars. But cool video ! Keep up the good work . Greetings
cmon man I can't include every good chelsea ever made do you know how exhaustive and exhausting this already was! but yes Meermin seem legit. I don't think the value:money ratio is as high as Thursday or other brands like the construction/QC is just OK, but that doesn't mean they're not a great buy
Surprised grant stone chelsea boots didn't make this list even as a runner up after all the praise they got. I was considering them for my all-around boot that I could still wear to a nice dinner but now I guess I have more to check out
Given that the Chelsea Boot is a British Boot, I am astonished that you include no British Boot in your choices, especially considering the many excellent examples from Northampton - for example, my Loake 1880 Danite Soled Chelsea’s in Suede are superb boots and excellent value
Hi Nick, when comparing Thursday Boot Co.’s Cavalier Chelsea boot in Dune to Oliver Cabell’s Lion Chelsea boot which do you think is the better boot regarding the overall quality, fit and color? Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2024!
thanks! i much prefer the fit of the cavalier, olive cabell's a bit tight on the forefoot for me. i like the crepe sole though, but there's a cavalier with a crepe sole now. oh yeah that's the one you're looking at, yeah i'd get that
Zonkey Boots has one of the most unique offerings imo. In terms of style and leather used. Also would love to see Myrqvist reviewed. Imo a dressier competitor to Grant Stone
I can see no reason to buy Blundstones over Redbacks for work. I got my Redbacks for work but they're so comfy I don't want to take them off. Almost the same price, in my opinion better looking that Blundstones and actually made in Oz rather than just trading off their Australian heritage.
Did you ever tried Lethato Chelsea boots , as they make the premium Chelsea boots which are totally different from other brands that you can't find any where
You’re a Rock Star, Nick. Great video! I can’t tell you how happy I am with the Benzein Chelsea’s - I got to chat with them and do a little customization too (had to do the red leather inner like yours). For anyone out there looking for some a new pair of boots, these can’t come with a higher recommendation. Another good alternative to the Carmina is the Meermin Linea Maestro (I have both and tend to gravitate toward the Meermin). Thanks for the awesomeness, Nick!!!
Great list! I’ve got several pairs of Chelsea’s from various manufacturers. I have particularly been enjoying my new RM Williams as of late. That being said I think Meermin might have my favorite boot with their whole-cut Chelsea’s. They are the best value boot hands down IMO. $200-$250 gets you a whole cut Chelsea with several choices of some great leathers, Goodyear welt construction and top notch craftsmanship. Also they are manufactured on Mallorca like the Carmina boots. I have the waxy commanders and love the combo of the waxed suede, storm welt and lug sole, they are gorgeous too. I’d say only thing is the sizing can take a min to figure out, also the break-in is rough, but once broken in they are excellent!
You did a great video, really liked the mix of boots. The sole on the Carmina wears out a little fast, I disagree that you can't wear with a nice pair of plain wash jeans. RM Williams are in all the offices in Melbourne, they are comfortable hence the name. I don't think the leather is that great, it seems to have a finish on it. The fact it is a wholecut is impressive. For an honourable, I think Meermin is very good. Menswear RUclipsrs sometimes say that you shouldn't wear light coloured Chelseas with dark trousers. How do you feel about that Nick?
I have 8 pair of RMW and Gardner is my everyday favorite. The Craftman in black kangaroo or blue suede for party, brown for summer. I love the Chelsey boot.
Hi Nick, fellow aussie here. Hope you can help! I'm wanting to buy a pair of Thursday Cavaliers but very hesitant on sizing...I usually run 11.5 to 12 US in runners (nike, asic etc) 11 US in chuck taylors, but the only pair of chelsea boots I own are Hush puppies in 9.5 US...big difference. I contacted Thursday boots which wasn't to helpful and I asked if they have sizes in centimetres to try and gauge it better but no luck. Any insight on how you determined right size would be great, as being I can't try them on it's a bit tricky. Thanks mate
Thoughts on the Meermin in waxy shell? I love it. I have chelseas from Taylor Stitch, Allen Edmonds and a bunch of other brands. The Meermin's are tied with TS for comfort, and $350 for shell, full lining, and leather insoles is very competitive. great quality.
Not Parkhurst. Benzein will def make you one. RMW has them. The best chelsea for wide feet (I put this in the article) is Adelante, they make em up to EEEEE
Nick - what do you think about the R. M. Williams Comfort Macquarie as an alternative to the traditional, but box, toe of the Comfort Craftsman? The Macquarie seems to have a similarly narrow, but rounded, toe, which might make it more appealing than the Craftsman (except that the Craftsman is the "classic" here).
Oh yeah, you know for a luxury option that might have beaten out RMW if not for RMW's wholecut pattern and the rare leather. But I love C&J did you see my video in their store?
I assumed the Benzeins would be making a prestigious appearance but now I’m curious if your list will change at all if/when you get your hands on the Nicks chelseas
I love the review. I am into leather and jeans as my new obsession nowadays after bored on watch collecting. I just wonder why Americans don't consider Timberlands much. I had 3 timberland boots (yellow boot, lace, and chelsea and a sandal). I feel like after owning much leather goods, they make good quality and are cheap specially on sale bang for buck. I don't have access to Thursday boots and Dr. Martins where I live which I consider after some research and reviews from friends and online. Personally, I had hard time getting my exact size online and really prefers sizing on stores before purchase which is because shoes and boot manufactures use different measurements. Leather boots needs the exact fit to rock them with satisfaction. I have been envious on the selections above but as I said, the exact fit for me is all about footwear. been spending on either too small or too loose shoes and been disappointed buying online since. I love Chelsea boots and been wearing them for work on scene mostly from 511 and is my go to when I am on a run. Once they are fully broke in, I put all my laced up boots aside. Timberland also is great for slim and cute feet which I have. I rock size 7 on some and rocks kids size as timbs don't offer size 6.5 ourside US LOL.
Personally prefer wholecut boots. RM Williams are definitely one for the list, but best ever? Gaziano & Girling Burnham. Also really like John Lobb and Edward Green.
I’ve been eyeing up Meermin’s chelseas. They appear to be well made, using CFStead suede and waxed suede at just over £200. I’m very tempted. I’d love to know what you think.
I have one pair in waxed kudo and lug soles! I personally think they are a great value. They have 2 lasts for Chelsea’s , One is narrower and pointy , other is more rounded. If I’m not mistaken , the hiro last is more narrow and pointy
I'll agree that I've found my Meermin chelseas to be a bit narrow/snug. I'd go true to size on my next pair to make up for that, my current pair I went down a half size like you would for Iron Rangers, but that was a mistake on my part. But other than that I'm very happy with them. Hard to beat for the price, especially if you pick up a wholecut style.
youre not Italian (I am) but there are quite a few cobblers not well known in Tuscany, Italy, that still hand last and hand welt Italian shoes using premium Italian leather. Also the cobblers I visited are artisans and have a history of shoe making, with pride in what they do so taking as much care as any other cobbler worldwide so to say Benzein are the best made is in my opinion highly disputable. There are also very small but premium cobblers in other European countries like Spain or Hungary (most well known is Vass), like I am sure there are in other countries outside Europe.
I sometimes regret getting the grant stone Chelsea over the Parkhurst. Very similar in quality and look with the lug bottom... But MAN that storm welt looks sharp as heck... Really wish my grants had those. That or the split Norwegian welt their other boots have.
Great video Nick! Was thinking of picking up a pair of Meermin boots, I like their "everyday" aesthetic and I heard that their good boots for the price but wanted to hear your opinion on them
Great video Nick. No one knows more about Boots than you! Whenever I need some info on boots and shoes I go straight to Stridewise. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the community. Keep up the great work. Ed.
Looking for more of a casual chelsea and going back and forth between Red Wing Weekender and Red Wing Classic Chelsea (which apparently they put a hold on due to supply chain issues). Have you ever done a comparison video of these two? Wondering whether I should seek out the classic Chelsea, or just go for the Weekender (that's readily available).
Yeah good question! The Weekender is lower profile is the main difference. Classic is very bulky like an Iron Ranger almost, the Weekender is lower profile and it's also a lot lighter and more flexible because it's stitchdown. I prefer the weekender because it's got the rugged leather and everything but it's a more traditional look for this kind of boot. Plus it's just so easy to put on and wear because of the lighter build
@@Stridewise Followup question…do you know of & recommend a casual lace up boot in the same vein is the Weekender? I work in a casual environment (IT). Most days I wear jeans and a hoodie or untucked button down. I may very well go w/ the Weekender b/c I think that would be perfect. Just wondering if there’s a lace up that would also work.
The only Chelsea I own is the grant stone Chelsea and it’s good but not amazing. The height is too short and my pants always get stuck on the pull tab, but look wise, they’re a nice in between for casual and business casual.
Out of all the boots I have, which includes a lot of both chelsea and chukka boots, I end up wearing my red wing weekender chelseas the most often. Lol. Go figure
oh if astorflex normal width fits you you should be fine, I mean there are some brands here stridewise.com/best-boots-for-wide-feet/ Adelante has the best range of widths and best value, Idrese also does wide chelseas you'd like
I wanted to buy the idrese Harvey but their size chart has me confused, my brannock device measured 11 and my foot length is 28cm but idrese says get whatever size is common in ur closet which is 10.5 and 10.5 on their size chart is 27.5 inches. I would love advice from anyone who’s dealt w their sizing for boots!

I agree about Grant Stone, best value, full stop. John Lofgren’s Chelseas also look amazing as well! Maybe the best looking
Completely agree with you both.
Love Idrese. Not only are the shoes comfortable for every day use but they’re very versatile and look great for special occasions.

As for Benzein, they just recently told me that my September 2022 order will be in production next Feb 2023
Yeah that sounds about right. Good luck with the wait!

What about Grant Stone? They tie the line between dress and casual really well I think! I just got a pair of the black calf Chelsea’s and loving them!
Honestly my favourite boot company at this boot

Timberland also is great for slim and cute feet which I have. I rock size 7 on some and rocks kids size as timbs don't offer size 6.5 ourside US LOL.
Where can I get those leather gloves you're wearing at 2:29? Very sharp look! 👌
Those are Filson's! You can also just look for Geier's gloves, I'm pretty sure Geier makes Filson's
A lot of these custom shoe don't offer a size B width, which doesn't make sense if it's a custom shoe.
crockett and jones?
Can you guys do a review of the "Chelsea boot Eastwood" from Thomas Bird?
Personally prefer wholecut boots. RM Williams are definitely one for the list, but best ever? Gaziano & Girling Burnham. Also really like John Lobb and Edward Green.
I’ve been eyeing up Meermin’s chelseas. They appear to be well made, using CFStead suede and waxed suede at just over £200. I’m very tempted. I’d love to know what you think.
I had to return mine. They run very narrow.
I have one pair in waxed kudo and lug soles! I personally think they are a great value. They have 2 lasts for Chelsea’s ,
One is narrower and pointy , other is more rounded.
Hard to beat for the price, especially if you pick up a wholecut style.
liked and subscribed. You know your boots!
I would lobe to know how to choose your boot size. Say for example i wear a US 9/ UK 42.5? what would be my boot size? I DONT have wide feet.
Matur nuwun trimakasih Benzein in your list👍
Ordered the Fermo true to size.
Have wide feet.
🤞.
youre not Italian (I am) but there are quite a few cobblers not well known in Tuscany, Italy, that still hand last and hand welt Italian shoes using premium Italian leather.
Yeah that's a good point! I also just found the Grant Stone's aesthetic a bit stumpy
Does an almond toe look better than round toe in Chelsea boots?
No mention of Amberjack? Hmm ok. I just got a pair of Thursdays and they wear very narrow.
John Lofgren? I have the olive cxl. Love them.
Great video Nick! Was thinking of picking up a pair of Meermin boots, I like their "everyday" aesthetic and I heard that their good boots for the price but wanted to hear your opinion on them
Can you make a best list for regular boots with lace ??

Oak Street Bootmakers makes one-piece MiUSA Chelsea boots. I just purchased a black CXL pair for $350 during their BF sale.
Oak Street is an amazing, amazing brand. The elastic design is unusual on those boots, they fit OK? Comfortable?
@@Stridewise Yup they're comfortable out of the box. I wish they had a wider leather selection, but you can't go wrong with a black pair of Chelseas!
Any clue when the Koio discount code will be valid? I tried applying it but they say they’re only accepting gift cards at the moment
? No the discount code works now? Stridewise20? I can apply it
Great vid!
appreciate it dude!
You should try out the Duke & Dexter’s Chelsea boots I got lots of them in different colours
Love this list! Def like my blunds but they’re not dressy one bit. Need to save my pennies for some Parkhurst or Benzein boots!
I'm shocked how many people want the benzeins even though i put them halfway through the video and emphasized the 6 month wait and expense haha
Have you seen the other Chelsea boots made in Australia by Harold Boots?
A∂elante makes hands down the best chelsea boot. A review would be great.
Is the weekender unstructured? I’ve heard online that the chukka weekender creases a lot
The height is too short and my pants always get stuck on the pull tab, but look wise, they’re a nice in between for casual and business casual.
right, they're too short! i don't love the look. the construction's great though
What is the manufacturers name of the Trento boots ?
Best shoe ever
thank you .🎉 boots 🇳🇴🇺🇸🇮🇹❤❤❤
why not carmina with jeans?
What about Tecovas and Allen Edmonds?
Lof & Tung Chelsea is also wholecut I believe
Please review the ted Baker polished suede chukka
Out of all the boots I have, which includes a lot of both chelsea and chukka boots, I end up wearing my red wing weekender chelseas the most often. Lol. Go figure
i have very wide feet. which would you recommend here?
edit: i actually already have the astorflex suedes, but i am looking for a black chelsea
oh if astorflex normal width fits you you should be fine, I mean there are some brands here stridewise.com/best-boots-for-wide-feet/ Adelante has the best range of widths and best value, Idrese also does wide chelseas you'd like
@@Stridewise thanks - i recently purchased a pair of virons and they don't fit my feet whatsoever so i'm disappointed in that purchase
Are the Cavalier's resolable?
Yeah!
@@Stridewise thanks! I just ordered a pair
No any Cole Haan's Chelsea here ?
