      Fully agreed! However, owning both a pair of Thursday cavaliers in sandstone suede, and a pair of Meermin Chelseas in Waxy Kudu... the Meermin's are much harder on my feet, especially when I'm not wearing boot-socks. To be fair though, I still have faith that they will break in more, and that alternatively their city-flex line would take care of the biggest inflexibilities I'm currently experiencing. I would still highly reccomend Meermin though, especially for their use of high-quality CF Stead leathers, and very decent finishing given the price category :)

    • @marcod.r.3299
      @marcod.r.3299 5 месяцев назад +1

      totaly disagree...Meermin used to be good, but they no longer are, already for years...the are also no longer made in Spain but in Asia, quality control has become really bad.......better to pay more and get boots/shoes from one of the Northamptonshire shoemakers, Loake, Trickers, Church, Crocket & Jones, etc....or in Spain Carmina is also very very good, have some Chelseas of them and they are fantastic

    • @dutchlancer2562
      @dutchlancer2562 5 месяцев назад

      @@marcod.r.3299 Could I ask in which specific areas you noticed the decrease in quality control? I've been playing with the idea of stepping up to Trickers or Carmina for a while, but the stepup in price still feels like a really big barrier to entry compared to a company like Thursday or Meermin! :)

      @@Gent.Z yeah they are small scale, mostly domestic focussed with some stores in Germany, France and I believe the UK. The price is amazing for the quality you get. What’s also very nice for me personally is that they have a wider fit: as common for north-west European men I have some bit wider feet, and since they are a Dutch heritage brand they accommodate to this. Contrary to Italian footwear like Santorini for instance, or the globally focused sportswear brands. They have two lines: their heritage line Van Bommel and the seasonal line Floris van Bommel which is a bit more fashion forward and houses for instance sneakers, but more so everything except dress shoes. I own shoes from both lines.

  • @CmdrBondUK-007
    @CmdrBondUK-007 6 месяцев назад +1

    There is one fundamental element to any good footwear, be it Chelsea Boots, or Brogues, Oxfords or indeed any leather shoe that is often overlooked in the discussion of styles and that is, proper care! Yes you can pay literally £1000's for a top of the line boot or shoe, but if you don't take the time to care for them, their appeal will soon fade and you give of a signal of simply 'can't be bothered'. So, invest in good polish for your footwear and clean them regularly :). When a woman checks out a man, she starts with his footwear practically every time!

And unfortunately, I find Thursday boots in general to be problematic; even their shoes that are supposedly “wide” widths do not have very roomy toe boxes. Fortunately, there are so many other brands out there making more roomy service boots, which can be an extremely elegant style when well-made with fine leathers: Grant Stone, Truman, Allen Edmonds, etc.

    There's nothing more classic then good wingtip brogue shoes - they've been way long before that chelsea hipster trend came out of the bushes. They came out at the end of the 19th century. Furthermore, there are many classic boots out there, which i prefer instead of Chelsea. So, horses for courses. One shoes style doesn't fit everyone. 🙂 You can be vegi/vegetarian, straight edge, don't date, don't tinder, don't drink, don't smoke & don't fly, care about the envirioment, also love various sneakers, like i am. It's silly to think, that from the shoes one is this & that - that's soo typical stereotype & -skindeep, in fact - exactly how our todays "modern" society is - ego-driven, attitude, narc's & superficial. Brave new world...not my cup of tea.

    I have a foot in both camps. I own several pairs of high quality (RM Williams, Paul Smith, Armani) Chelsea boots, but I also own around 10 pairs of old school Adidas Originals. I grew up in the 70s and 80s where, Adidas trainers were pretty much ubiquitous, and I play guitar in a Britpop tribute band, so the Originals are a must-wear on stage. I once attended a formal event wearing a full tux but with black and white Samba Supers. I'm sure some people thought I looked a complete knob, but it was important to add that little dash of 'fuck you' to the organisers (with whom I didn't get along).
    But the less said about those bloody awful huge trainers modern men/boys wear, the better. You want to dress like a Pikey? Go ahead.
