Andrew I have to give you a round of applause for taking on the challenge despite feeling groggy at the start. What an example of not waiting to feel inspired or ready to paint. True dillegence, perseverance and grit. Your painting is beautiful- another masterpiece in the making. Speaking of masterpieces, what wonderful news (on comments) that you have been blessed with a beautiful baby. May God bless and protect your precious bundle of joy. Thanks for sharing your journey as a part-time artist. I needed to hear that I'm not alone in that. Yes, I know that feeling of counting down the hours in my day job so I can get back to my little studio (AKA small guest bedroom & I'm embarrassed to admit that I hope no one will visit me cuz I can't imagine not being in there!) My goal for 2022 is to keep using those 'spare hours' to improve as an artist - oh and I plan to retire somewhere in there so I can paint and paint and paint (I'm going on 70 lol) I work half time at one job and balance that with my real estate work and managing the house for my family which entails a lot of cleaning and maybe some cooking. So, if a 69 year old woman can do it - you youngsters out there can do it too!

First, Great job. Second, I have found over the years that I myself have only a Four hour window. After that ny brain seems to go sideways. Now...Don’t touch that painting. What you have done is perfect!!!! Take a day off to rest then go another 24 hour challenge to finish what you started in the same way you started it. If you go back to your normal routine.... you will paint the same way you always do..... and that is not what you were trying to accomplish. Note: go back and listen to what you said in the video.
Also,, You know how guitarists, Legends, have a sound that is all their own ? That is what you are trying to achieve. And you are right on the edge. GO BACH AND FINISH WHAT YOU STARTED !!!! You are already exceptional,,, now be GREAT !

I used to sometimes spend about 20 hours a day painting when i was younger until work and commitments killed it off. Im older now and have some spare time at last and am trying to get back into it. It seems like average life and other commitments kill art off when its the one thing you really like and could go for .

I am amazed at how much you achieved and so impressed with you talent. I do own a number of your DVD’s which are brilliant. I have painted for 24hrs to complete work for an exhibition in pastel, put it in a frame then drove for 45 minutes to deliver it with no coffee at all. I learnt a lot from doing it. I fiddled a lot and put heaps of detail in the focal point/subject finding I had very little time left to do the background. I was determined to get it finished so had to change the way I normally worked. It was a double portrait. Speed painting the background taught me so much and I totally surprised myself, forcing me to leave out detail. I was so elated with the results I felt wide awake and full of energy. Cheers Pat Barry

And it is ANOTHER ENJOYMENT to see a professional landscape painter's studio, the instruments, the tools, the painting procedures, and skills. Very good space for painting when you want to zoom in and out with a distance for your works.
Hmmm.... Being a professional painter isn't an easy job at all but I saw your perfect pitches on painting from the themes, mountains, animals to the land. VERY IMPRESSIVE.

So glad to hear your comments about wanting to become looser. The super detailed paintings that you paint always catch your eye for a moment but they lose interest in no time at all because there’s nothing left to the imagination for the eye. At one point I gave up watching your videos due to the tiny little millimeter by millimeter details you add. That is the work of cameras and people who copy photographs rather than create art.
I’ve been absolutely amazed at how many times I have been painting, did not like what I was seeing, and in resignation before wiping it off take a few what the f brushstrokes or a few strong wiping off strokes to remove what I did and find that it instantly looks better and more interesting. The more careful I am the worse it looks. It seems the hardest thing to do is to let those happy accidents happen while still staying in control. Yet I think it I s essential a values, simplifying , and composition. I hope you continue on this path of painting looser as it will take you to a new level of quality or truly great art.

I am learning how to digital paint but following the guidance of oil painters on YT like yourself. So far 1.5 years of experience. I think I am progressing well. However, I am nowhere near what you can do on photoshop lol. Maybe in my third year.
I made leaps in my digital painting skills implementing info from YTbers like yourself. However, when I got to a certain point, I finally sat down and started to learn about the fundamentals. Then my skills jumped again. It was like bridging the gap on what was off about my painting. I like watching videos like these and trying to implement something I saw in it into my own painting process.99% of the time I flop hard when I try it for the first time.
I stayed up 24 hours trying to fix my painting the second time I tried painting. I tried everything but could not solve it. The next day I recorded myself digital painting the same thing and it came out far better. It then took me a week to really find out why the problem occurred.
It was new painter mistake #1 going straight to the details before the foundation is fully formed. So I started to go on YT seeing how various artists started their paintings.
I won't lie to you the way you paint I can understand, but it annoys the hell out of me. I don't have enough skill and knowledge to pull that off yet lol.

I'm only halfway through your video and this is quite amazing. I was given a photo of a "modern day," Montana cattle drive by a total stranger I had a conversation with at a local festival. I got very excited and already had this huge canvas. Probably as wide as yours but taller. I got the composition sketched in and was into the painting. Never having done one this large, I had not taken the physicality of the whole thing into consideration. I have put it aside but really want to finish it. This has given me inspiration - though I won't even pretend that I am going attempt in a 24 hour period. Kudos to you! Also, I am always the one who overestimates my ability vs progress while my best friend is just the opposite and she is always right! haha. I feel your pain.

Mine was not a 24hour, but a 36hour ordeal. One thing I have to agree on is that 2-3am time slot when I thought I couldn’t make it, then all of a sudden I got a burst of energy and was able to complete the commission. Not something I recommend, but as most artists will say, deadlines help us complete out projects. I can’t wait to see the end results of this painting!

@@AndrewTischlerArt I am a painter of the wild horses of North America. I love so much that you are showing videos painting horses and how you went out to capture their photographs. Last summer, I was blessed to go to Wyoming to do the same. There is nothing that can compare to the experience of being in the presence of such beauty. Thank you again for sharing your experience with all of us.

Glad to see that a genius like you paints slow, like me. That means I must be doing something right. However, I only paint for about 3 hours at a time. You don't have to make quick broad strokes if that's just not your style. You own your style, and it's fantastic.

Andrew, this painting is enormous and also very beautiful. My very first piece of artwork that I ever did was a challenge as well, time constraint happened naturally, due to it being a Christmas present and I worked on it for 24 hours straight, however it seemed like 24 minutes! I probably started on it the day before Christmas Eve! It was very small only 11X 14 but I finished it! I was very proud of myself. I know, it’s no comparison to what you’ve done here but I was very proud, being it was my absolute first piece. I was able to have it framed and wrapped and gave it to my mom for Christmas, everyone was super amazed that I had created it!
You Sir, have accomplished a massive painting in only 24 hours! It’s quite astonishing to me and I’m sure everyone else what a monumental task this was! The fact you had gotten so far on this challenge in 24 hours is shocking to me! Not to mention the shear scale, beauty and detail the piece has. WOW, awesome work! I love horses and yours are done so well, just gorgeous. They certainly look anatomically correct which is a very difficult challenge in itself, their setting is just perfection! This painting is magnificent, which is an understatement!

Very impressive! You're like the David Blaine of artists. I might have attempted a 24hr challenge in my 30s or 40s but certainly not now. My hat's is off to you sir, congratulations and thanks for sharing what you've learned in the process.

You're the only person to inspire me since Bob Ross. Take that how you want but bob inspired me as a child. Your dedication, organization, quality and personality inspire me as an adult.
Edit: plus your painting are insane it just sucks how expensive painting like this can be. Thanks.

Have you ever watched mural joe? I find that blocking in with bigger brushes especially on large paintings helps to make a looser painting and I picked up some tips from watching bob ross on public tv

  • @zeropluslessthan5126
    @zeropluslessthan5126 2 года назад

FWIW I think you have a wonderful loose style. You just typically do two more passes after achieving it. Your block-in is always quality and could be finished art if you wanted. (Or you could do a detail-pass just on focal areas of the scene). I like your extremely detailed work too, but I think your block-in sometimes has the magic.

Awesome work Andrew! You would have made a fantastic billboard painter! I learned to paint in oils on billboard panels for an advertising company; they’d have been all over wanting you for the work! So awesome to see this one coming to fruition!
