When i went to the Philippines to see my wife and her family, they had a pump. It was the best pump ever. I could fill up a gallon bucket with around 20-25 pumps
I learned something form this.. two people showing respect to each other and working together as a team.... and.. And.. learned more about well stuff....
Jules the comedian!!! Love how you put in 3 pipes, forgot the center ring and had to start again but didnt get upset!!. Thanks for the video Love from UK.
Clever, I like it. Back in the 1950's when I was about 9, one of my uncles had a house with a hand pump at the kitchen sink. He was told the builder dug the well first and built the house around it. The only electricity they had then was a single wire with bulb hanging down in a few of the rooms. He made a trough so he could pump water to the wood stove which had aside tank to heat water for bathing and dishes. From the water tank there was a hose that could send water to the tub in the very next room. If this will let you send pressurized water to the house that would be awsome.
Next step, a big wheel (like an old spinning wheel) attached to a rod to move the pump handle. Drive the "spinning wheel" with a bicycle sprocket and chain.
The left hand thread at the top is simply there so when you disconnect at the top for service you turn to the right and guaranteed to break that connection instead of a downhole connection which would all be tightening as you turn
We are also in northern Idaho. Our well is 580 feet deep with a static level of 80 feet. We added a deep well hand pump on our well also. The choice came down to Simple Pump or Bison Pump. I went with the Bison. The installation is basically the same for both pumps. Ours works well too! You have the option of adding a solar powered motor to your's that Bison doesn't offer on their pump. Other than that we are very happy with our hand pump!
Cannot believe how much you have done since the start of your build, not to mention living in tents in the beginning! You all are doing such a great job!
Great job guys! Love your homestead. I'm getting a Simple Pump for my rural home in middle Tennessee. We want to be as self-sufficient as possible in case of emergencies. This video will definitely help my installation. Keep up the good work!
Now you take a discarded bicycle and fabricate a cam set up for the rear wheel and sit down and go for a lackadaisical ride!! Nice video ,thank you both, be blessed with health and happiness. J
I love your videos We are moving from California, where we have a completely off-grid cabin to Emmett Idaho (back on the grid) anyhow we used a solar well system I bought from RPS 4000$ for the pump and solar panels, and pumped in to a 5000 Gallon tank, The well pump does not work after sunset. So the tank had a 12 volt RV pump in line to bring water to the house,
Congrats Guy's on getting the Hand Pump installed. i had enough time to feed my cat in the carport, feed the cat on the back porch and get myself some ensure to drink before u filled the 5 gallon bucket. lv ur videos.
Good thing we did all the push ups in December so you can pump for 4 mins - LOL. I might have rotated a little so the water outlet is away from the blue well cover. Then a bucket could sit up next to side of well and fill up. Hose works too. Thanks for sharing
Many moons ago, when we had a well dug, we ended up going 463 feet deep. One thing I learned from an "old timer" (a cousin who had a few decades on me) was to always attach a wire or rope to any tool i was using at the well head. Saved me more than once from losing a big pipe wrench down the hole. Like Lectro54 suggested, we used stainless steel aircraft cable to support our pump. Unfortunately for us, our well drilling company was less competent than yours was. They 1) under-perforated the pipe, 2) did NOT air blast the well when finished ("our compressor isn't working), and 3) left us with a well that would not even support a 7 gpm pump. On my current place, I want to put in a well to water the garden, but that's way down the "to do" list. Love your channel. Idaho looks gorgeous, but too cold for me!
Marty, I've been concerned about the same issue and plan to install install a pitcher pump on one of my old wells. This is a super vid. I wasn't aware such well caps are available. Now i can search for one for the size I need. Btw, watchout for that yellow rope you have holding the weight of your pump, it has a tendency to dry rot and rapidly disintegrates from ultraviolet sunlight.
Great video guys. So pleased it worked for you. We have a deep level well here in rural Ireland and am interested in having a hand pump alongside our electric pump so we can still have water if the pump et al fails or the electric goes out. Will check out your other videos. Thanks.
Here in the Netherlands we support and repair our old windmills and we have still a lot of them. Also groups of poeple who care for them in any way. Young people starting to learn the millers handwork and they do this with a lot of fun and enthusiasme. Also there are still some mills who mills the grain we have. One other task is to pump water in the lower lands in the winter to flod it to prepare the ground for the spring. Also we have them to pump water away when a certain level is reached to get rid of to much water. And in nearly every windwill there is a 5...10 KW motor to generate electricity. Which can be used in the windwill and or charge LiFePo4 accus. Yeah the dutch old guys had many ideas and we hold them alive and ad modern things. Not all but some modern things. Everey year we have a day called the windmill day so that everyone can come and see and learn things over that whole system build across the Netherlands.
@@mikeunum That is amazing and wise. Old ways most of the time are still better ways. We have an old 16 foot on a well pumping into a holding tank. I was so excited when we got it working again. I think I posted a short vid on it. Mine is too small for power generation but it will keep the garden and fruit trees watered 🙂
My hubby and I have been wanting to do this with our well. Thanks for showing how you did yours. Ours isn't as deep as yours is but he'd pretty sure he can do something similar. 🙏
Hi Marty and Jules it’s good to read the instructions LOL here in Australia as men, do not like to read instructions and obviously you don’t too , When you put things together and you’ve got all these spare things over then it is a good time To read instructions LOL Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia
I've had a Simple pump on my 50' well for 10+ years. I've got it connected to the 12V linear motor and a lead acid battery. I have a 100W solar panel to keep the battery charged. I use it for filling my pool and watering the garden. It's been great. I haven't changed any gaskets yet...
WELL THIS IS GREAT...GLAD YOU MADE THAT MISTAKE FOR US TO SEE... I LEARNED FROM IT...I HAVE A SIMPLE PUMP...BUT WILL INSTALL IT ONLY IF ITS EVER NEEDED...EMP OR WAR TIME NO POWER GRID THANKS GREAT RUclips VIDEO.!
Well done regarding the video. I enjoyed watching it. I have a sister in Sagle who I visit often to fish Pend Oreille (Garfield bay) with my cousin from Rathdrum. Love that portion of Idaho which reminds me of my home town in NW Montana (Libby). I have a well on my property here in Butte, MT and because of the current issues in our world, am considering just such an animal to at least be able to get water in an emergency. I did look at the other style but as you said, they are really only good for a short draw. This one is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks again for sharing your videos.
Wonderful channel to get ideas of how to become autonomous and independent .I'm in the process of getting my homestead ready as well in the Basque country (north Spain) Just as a curiosity Idahoo is a Basque word means Ox stop . In the village that I'm building my homestead with solar panels and soon a water well pulling big rocks with oxes has been a sport for centuries, they look after them very well and a few times a year during festivities they do exhibitions and competitions as a cultural thing and a excuse to bet some money on your favourite ox .it's easy to understand when you are here how centuries ago when locals of these few villages went to America as shepherds decided to name the area Idaho
Good Job for pumping water from such deep well i sugest you to use a double acting cylinder (pump) at the botom to double the flow rate and get a continues flow
I would not want to replace the 230v well pump with that unit installed, especially with the loctite😊. I think i will buy one to store for emergency though. Love the Bostie! Vet said my Bostie is obese but my Bostie thinks the vet said that he’s A Beast. Have fun you two!
To be on the safe side, cover up and protect the yellow poly rope. Over time the sun will deteriorate it. Nothing worse than having it brake right at the wellhead.
I guess I should have read the description first. When a seller wants you to request a quote instead of listing prices, it's always a good sign they're going to overcharge.
Great info. Considering the $3,500 cost. My installed solution I think is better. My pump is at 150'. I have 1,600 gallon cistern filled by well and pump from cistern to house. I will be installing RV 12V backup pump on the cistern. I can run well pump on generator. I'm considering buying spare well pump and we'll pipe clamp tool if I need to replace pump myself.
There was, another bloke a ways back, added a sliding sleeve to the weep hole, and a small lever to the pump housing driving the sleeve in the summer lift the sleeve and pump with no water loss, that freeze protection loses a lot of water, in the risky part of the year still protected against ice, failsafe sleeve does not block the hole unless you DO it
Great idea ! Water is very important on any build & a second pump is supper idea :) I found your cannel as you were helping some else out getting back into their cabin property :) Nice to have good Neighbors like you !
That'd be the ticket instead of a pitcher pump anyways, more leverage, more water. Thanks for sharing this, I've got a few uses for it. Love ya'll and what you're doing ❤️
Great job! Good thinnin' Martin. Always good to have an emergency source of wa-wa. If your electric well pump were to break, you wouldn't be out of drinking water while you get a replacement. I don't remember, do you have a water softener yet? Would be a really good idea with yellow well water... Oh, did you ever pop the top on your cistern tank back up? Don't forget to build a roof over the cistern (on a slope) for snow protection next winter.
Say, I couldn't help but notice the corrosion of your electric contacts for the pump. May I suggest you solder your electric contacts to prevent drawing too much amperage of your power systems.
there has got to be a better way??? I haven't done much research... But My well is really DEEP and I am not sure this is the best method for me... I am looking for something that works well without electricity. THANKS for doing this !! I really appreciate anyone willing to TEST things out! :D So yeah... very cool!
"Baker Monitor" still makes actual old style hand pumps. You have to be able to figure the correct size parts for your well though. Deepest hand pump I've ever seen, the pump cylinder was set @230ft. At that depth it is hard to pump a big volume by hand.
Thank you for posting your video. Deanna and I are an hour away from their facility (Reno to Minden, Nevada!)... we will be speaking with them next week. Blessings and Happy New Year to You Both!!
The algorithm is strong. Lol. I just happened to be looking at one of these at the TSC today and was planning on doing some research. Ty for this. Perfect timing 😁
Well done! ha ha! Maybe, a bicycle pedal powered simple pully system, for the pumping arm would work out better for you? Just a thought. And you guy's are amazing. Blessings to you and your family.
Hello off grid neighbors. We are also off the grid living next-door in Northeast Washington. We have been off grid now for eight years in a dry cabin both in our 60s and still clearing land to make it livable. We have a well that needs a generator to retrieve our water. This Simple pump looks like the deal that we need. My question is, our well is only 56 feet deep according to the records left when we bought the property. What size Simple well kit do you recommend?
Use that extra hole in the bracket to put a piece of rod with a foot on the ground. That way there's no flex in the structure. Also, this could be the subject of a modification where the lever arm is replaced by a large wheel. Think locomotive wheel action, where the steam engine piston is replaced by the pump and the thing works in reverse. Inertia would allow you to pump faster and more even. Making such a wheel and the bracket that would attach it would be a trivial task with a common garden variety steel bender from hazardfrought, using some earth wire clamps to make the spokes and a flat plate would remove the need for welding.
LOL, an EMP or solar flare. I can guess the web sites that they frequent. The pump is cool and I can see the utility of it when remote and off grid. Electrical stuff can and will fail and out in the boonies like they are. Most of the solar kit is cheep stuff out of China so there is little surprise that they hedge their bet and install this thing as a backup. I am with the guy that suggested making a peddle rig from an old bike to run the pump rather than that pump arm. Good video and thanks.
Not knowing much about this but can you pump faster than the sucker rod can fill? In other words if you pumped a little bit slower you might pump a full sucker rod vs a half full sucker rod. Just curious...
A pure example of some beautiful people on our planet!
When i went to the Philippines to see my wife and her family, they had a pump.

Awesome! Didn't know there was a hand pump that would work that deep. Keep up the good work and God bless.
Nice video. I've installed one of these years ago. Just don't forget to sanitize your well after working in it. Cheers
Looks just like a miniature version of how the old windmills pump water. That’s awesome !

Same here. It is a common stereo type and my norm.
A windmill with a cranking toggle would be ideal for your hand pump . It would save you tons of time pulling water up into your cistern .

Yes she does.
I'd go to a ships chandler and see what they suggest to replace that yellow nylon rope. Just a thought.
Seeing the demolitia shirt told me I was on the right channel 😁👍

Great video, i subscribed.
My well head looks about the same.
We just bought a house in the foothills in NC.
Its the best water ive ever drank.
Kool water pump. You could hook up a gizmo (metal or PVC) to the pump handle and make hand pumping a lot easier.
I would not want to replace the 230v well pump with that unit installed, especially with the loctite😊. I think i will buy one to store for emergency though. Love the Bostie! Vet said my Bostie is obese but my Bostie thinks the vet said that he’s A Beast. Have fun you two!
Plenty of flex on that setup while pumping. Might wanna add a support.

Are you concerned about the pivot linkage? It looks a bit flimsy to me.
Something like watching the grass grow for about 4 minutes. Great vid guys, love your show
They sell a DC powered electric motor to hook to the pump jack. Boom
I was all over getting one... then a saw the price!!!

in the summer lift the sleeve and pump with no water loss, that freeze protection loses a lot of water, in the risky part of the year still protected against ice, failsafe sleeve does not block the hole unless you DO it
Thanks for the info. My static water line is about 100’ as well.
Looks like you could rig up a wheel with a handle on it might make getting more volume out easier?
Great idea ! Water is very important on any build & a second pump is supper idea :) I found your cannel as you were helping some else out getting back into their cabin property :) Nice to have good Neighbors like you !
That'd be the ticket instead of a pitcher pump anyways, more leverage, more water. Thanks for sharing this, I've got a few uses for it. Love ya'll and what you're doing ❤️
Pitcher pumps are only good down to 28 feet, no deeper. Pumps with a lift rod can go much deeper.
@ljprep6250 Thanks. I found that out, about 11 months ago. It worked perfectly in Tennessee, not so in Missouri.
Great job! Good thinnin' Martin. Always good to have an emergency source of wa-wa. If your electric well pump were to break, you wouldn't be out of drinking water while you get a replacement. I would suggest having a backup new pump in storage at all times
Say, I couldn't help but notice the corrosion of your electric contacts for the pump. May I suggest you solder your electric contacts to prevent drawing too much amperage of your power systems.
Hope you are having a great Memorial Day. The appt looks awesome, beautiful And Sara loves it ! Thank you for your service Martin. God bless you all!!
cool! this is awesome! reminds me of our cistern and hand pump at grandma's kitchen back when I was young!
you need a lead free hose, for food grade, drinking grade, whatever it's called.
there has got to be a better way??? I haven't done much research... But My well is really DEEP and I am not sure this is the best method for me... Where does the weep hole water go? Back down the 4 inch main well pipe? So I guess the water don't bother the wires and sides of the well pipe.
What team work and thanks for information all should know for the future
Cute miniature Boston !
Ánimo ..saludos desde la sierra de Madrid España
That is awesome. Nice job!
Great idea... I'm going to remember this when we get to that point.
Keep up the great work
hi julie hi martin good job greetings from the netherlands
Y'all made me trip when i saw my town's long bridge 🤣🤣🤣
Good choice livin' up here with us👍
cool setup and good job on the video I believe the reverse threads are so the center rod doesn't get loosened
That sure will be handy 😉
Great! Quick question what about it freezing 🥶 in the winter time, wi it freeze up and split the pump ?
No it will not. There is a weep hole a few feet down the well. Like a frost free hydrant.
Thank You 🙏 Young Man! Where do I purchase this item?
My son manufactures simple pump here in Nevada..I helped him
.great product..
The algorithm is strong. Lol. I just happened to be looking at one of these at the TSC today and was planning on doing some research. Ty for this. Perfect timing 😁

I need to see more of that Boston Terrier
Wow that is terrific! Thank you for sharing

Not knowing much about this but can you pump faster than the sucker rod can fill? In other words if you pumped a little bit slower you might pump a full sucker rod vs a half full sucker rod. Just curious...
We will have to experiment.
I’ve seen other hand pumps that bring up gushes of water. Jake the athlete has one at his remote place in North Canada.
Is it a deep well pump or a shallow one? We have another shallow well 18’ and that pump is faster.
Question. Is handle upside down? Notches in handle look like they may be cut to clear pump parts.

Spirit Lake here. I would love one of these, but I am within city limits. I wonder if there are exceptions for gardening and stuff.
Did you sanitize the wrench first?
You beat me to it.
May be the same wrench that the visitor skunk walked over?
You could actually probably hook up one of those old windmills to that pump and pump water with it..
