I'm currently training/rehabilitating 2 abused and rescued Tervurens for a client. Completely different situations. It will be a challenge, but I'm honored to work with such an exceptional breed. I've worked with many Malinois, and loved the challenge.
No, leave it to the AKC to make it complicated, and to ruin a breed. Would NEVER put any stock in AKC breeders, just look at what they have done to the German Shepherds.
It took me a while to realise this name thing when I started to search videos on belgian shepherds. Never before had I even considered the possibility that somewhere they were not seen as one breed. Very confusing. :D I have 2 Tervurens myself.
Only American Kennel Club decided to recognize them as 4 different breeds. For me, it was confusing aswell. But it is not a big deal, for me, it is still 4 varieties of Belgian Shepherd 👍🏻
Yes. It's not a big deal for me either but it really took me a while(when I got my first Tervuren 13 years ago) to realise that they really separated them as different breeds. :P Now that I know that they do, I have no problem. :D

Hi rocadog I have a female Belgian sheepdog groenendael full black. But But I don't know how to distinguish the characteristics or differences between Belgian Sheepdog Groenendael showline and workingline dogs? What is the difference between showline groenendael and working line groenendael? Thanks rocadog
The main differences are in temperament and not in appearance. The working line typically have higher drive, energy level and more confident. @@Rocadog Rocadog I want to ask one more question. Why do I have a Belgian shepherd dog? Every time I take him for a walk in the morning, my dog always wants to go for a long walk (I use a leash every time I take him for a walk). I'm telling the truth, twice now my dog has gotten loose when I took him for a walk around the residential street where we live, it's good that twice my dog has come back to me. Why does my dog behave like that? (I usually take my dog for a walk around the street of the housing complex where we live at 5 in the morning). (This Belgian sheepdog groenendael dog belongs to me, every time I want to go to a small shop, or I go to Alfamart, Indomart to buy a drink/food, My dog is always screaming/crying
It can happen, that long hair puppies are born in Malinois litter. It is still the Belgian Shepherd, there is no difference other than the hair. It is allowed to cross between Belgian Shepherd varieties and occasionally puppies of different varieties can be born within the same “purebred” litter of one variety.
As a owner of a Tervuren and having had a Malinois as a kid. I think there is also a diffrence in bodybuild between them. Tervervuren and Groenendaeler have a more narrow or lean build and a have a VERY pointy muzzle. More like a greyhound but with a longer coat. When my Tervuren gets wet she looks just like one. The Malionois is more squared in the jaw and torso. Tho it has a lean build in general, it's nothing compamared to the other Belgians . And the Malinois genarally tends to get bigger than the other breeds too. I can't speak for the Laekenois. Tho I live in Belgium, I have never seen one in real life.
Not if you educate them well. I have a Malinois and he's the most adorable, energetic washing machine. He licks everyone. But I live in one of the safest places on earth, with no crime, I don't need a guard dog.
Dutch Shepherd? In Holland he calls the Dutch Malinois Shepherd, which is logical, he was raised in Belgium and he is of Belgian origin, this breed was not recognized in Belgium because of its color (a breeder raises dogs to earn money and a dog that is not of race has no value, the Dutch have some of the dog recovery, it's the same story with the white German shepherd, white is denied in the breed standard, the German white shepherd became American.Hollywood made a movie with a white man killer shepherd (I forgot the title of the movie) in a few days all white German shepherds had been killed, the American does not make the difference between a fiction film and reality Today, the white German shepherd has become the white Swiss Shepherd.
In the nineteenth century, sheepdogs were selected solely on their qualities at work. In the Belgian and Dutch plains, shepherds therefore used dogs whose dress could be "brindle" or "yellow", of similar morphology and character: strong, enduring and courageous. At the end of the 19th century, several enthusiasts were interested in the selection of their dogs, and this is how dogs identify in Belgium a breed they call the Campine Sheepdog. We find their traces at the first agricultural competition organized in Belgium: the sheepdog intelligence contest. Following this contest and the results recorded by the shepherds of Campines, the organizers decide on the nominated as Berger Nationals
