HotD _absolutely_ was lead with MuH dIvErSiTy! -- when it came to the marketing. And predictably, people had a problem with the race-swapped Velaryons, quickly followed with accusations of being an Istaphobe. You know what the difference is? HotD came out and was actually pretty good, and the main race-swapped character was played by a guy who played the role really well. _That_ is why everyone stopped criticizing HotD for those reasons, because once the show's out and you have things of far more substance to like or criticize, all that other stuff falls away, and what you're left with is a pretty good show. With LotR:RoP though, you don't have that. People aren't complaining about Disa anymore, but the show itself is dog shit.
from the first 10 mins they completely fucked the lore with the Two Trees of Valinor and how galadriel's brother died, and other events that would essentially cause a time paradox sooo fucked that doctor who himself would have to make a season or two to fix the mess.
The poor marketing had a lot to do with this debacle. A few months ago Amazon brought in a bunch of SJW types for a preview. They gushed about it afterwards ("the elves were cute!"). Now people considered this show silly & weird. I think Amazon went into damage control by later hiring a panel of "hip but mature" to evaluate the film in a more intellectual manner. But then they had the actors rave about diversity and representation. So I knew what direction the show was heading and thought, "Ahem, no thanks."
Yeah race swapping the Velaryon’s who were literally said in the books to look just like Targaryen’s had me gritting my teeth, but I’m surprised to see the actor who plays Corly’s is actually doing a good job so I’m actually enjoying (him) as a Velaryon at least.
What was the actual breakdown of the viewership for RoP from episode from episode? Did a big number show up for the episode and then it died off for episode 2? The press release from Amazon claims 25 million GLOBAL viewers for the premiere....but that is for TWO episodes. So right off the bat, they are presenting those numbers from a skewed POV. Amazon won't reveal what qualifies for a view.
They don't mention it, but at about 9:20 this video shows a tweet saying the Samba data showed a 28% drop from ep1 to ep2. The only way 25M makes any sense is if Amazon added ep1 and ep2 play starts (not complete views) and then inflated that sum by 30-50%.

Did amazon claim that 25 million HOUSEHOLDS or VIEWERS have seen their series? Thats another way to play with the numbers - they can just assume that 1 steam = 3 viewers, which inflates the numbers
Reminds me of Netflix celebrating The Witcher season 2 for hitting their Top 10 watched list…. But leaving out the fact that it is the only show on there that dropped views from its previous season. So I doubt series 3 will make it.
Im from Middle East and you have to understand something about those numbers: The rest of the world dont have that inside information about the shows, whether they are going to be woke nonsense or not. In this part of the world LOTR is a beloved franchise, so is Star Wars. MCU's popularity died off after Endgame and people will absolutely consume anything that involves Batman like there is no tomorrow. So yes, 25 million "worldwide" is plausible, but US? Absolutely fuckin not.
I was catching up on The latest season of The Boys this weekend, and when it was over it autoplayed rings of power for a few seconds before I noticed and clicked it off. It would not surprise me if millions of people across the world had a similar experience, and all of us got counted as views in that big 24 million number they’re bragging about.
The Boys is really good imo, and Jensen Ackles was great as Soldier Boy, hopefully they bring his character back. But anyway, the problem w/ The Boys, is they too have a bunch of Woke messages shoved in the show and are not subtle about it at all. I read somewhere that Homelander, a literal sociopathic murderer, is supposedly based off of Trump. Fucking outrageous.
Kneon missed the part of that post that showed that the audience for the second episode of The Rings of Power, dropped dramatically compared to the first episode.
Hollywood needs to remember they are a member of the service industry. Right now Amazon's rop is a horribly cooked dinner you orderd. Just sad that Amazon and Disney/marvel right now thinks that the dish they are serving is good when most is trying to send the dish back
They missed the chance to give us a wonderful authentic Leia story touching the subjects of: Who trained her? How was she introduced to the resistance? What were her first missions for the rebellion? What challenges did she have learning to use a speeder, blaster and so on? Did she have any pro-Empire diplomatic rival? We could have met an empowering wise female mentor for her… it was an Entirely missed opportunity! But hate can’t create only destroy, that’s why the “neomarxists” are creatively bankrupt…
You know something was fishy when they used the "GLOBAL" view count instead of US numbers, it's like when a movie fails to get the number one spot and the studio comes out saying it's "the number one (movie genre) in the world".
I'll make Amazon pay by all means for ripping off my friend when he was looking for good drawing pencils and got Chinese garbage. Speaking of China, that's where Amazon belongs.
The interesting thing about that article Amazon says that 25 million people "sampled" Rings of Power. Sampled is a strange word right? Also, they lost 500,000 views from Episode 1 to Episode 2.
I blame Amazon's marketing. A lot of people don't even know there's prime video and when you see it, it feels like it's marketed towards old people while HBO has been around for 50 years and already has a base. It's marketed for adults and Game of Thrones was their meal cow for awhile.
When even Disney is outdoing your crap... You done f#cked up!! lol I'm going to fall out of my chair laughing if "She-Hulk" (the utter disaster that that show currently is) outdoes "Rings of Power!" THAT would be the super low point! Amazon would have to start firing people at that point!
This Amazon show was supposed to be the major tv event of the year, and It's failing. Then there will be huge distance in time waiting for series two. More people will give up on this CW lite crap.
The problem is, it's not good. I think they knew it sucked. So they wanted to head off the criticisms by labeling the fans as -ists and -phobes. The writing, the dialog and the story itself is awful. Now we know why J.D Payne and Patrick McKay were uncredited Bad Reboot writers for the Star Trek movie. They are awful writers.
The first time I tried to watch it I bailed at the big brother scene. “Why does a boat float….. Who hired these writers? The dialogue is horrible! So I turned my brain and my love of Tolkien off, not easy, and gave it another shot. Well at least I made it past the title screen this time but, I hate it. Its not only LOTR blasphemy its the same damn thing they do in every franchise. They keep writing the same show over and over again dressed up in the next beloved franchise. So cringe so world busting. Its more garbage from the same idiots.
The failure of the Rings of Power should not come as a surprise to anyone. The show is a prime example of how not to screw with the fans who love a pre-existing franchises (LOTR and GOT).
I don't think Amazon would outright lie about the numbers- just be very careful which number they pick. For example if you told me 25 million people clicked play, I'd believe it. Now how many of those made it even to the end of the first episode? Then again this is the company suppressing reviews...
The only real way the number of views, likes and dislikes will ever be visible to the general public. When it comes to any kind of media platform is if it becomes a law forcing companies to disclose the numbers. Which is unlikely to happen since many big companies often donate tons of money to political campaigns.
Any time I see these media companies attack people for not liking what they're making, I just nope right out of it. Hate it or like it is the same to them, but just ignoring it truly hurts them.
Last Wednesday, every time I launched the Amazon app on my phone it would autoplay the trailer with no way to skip it. When I touched the screen in an attempt to skip the trailer it just launched straight into the show. Did anyone else get that?
@@TheDraken03 It might have been the show that auto played, I really wasn't paying that much attention. I was poking and swiping my screen immediately so I could check on something that I ordered, I closed the app and reopened it and the same video started to auto play again.
HBO won this match in the easiest way possible: By not trying to. They simply made a good show, nothing more or less. Amazon pursued more, and achieved less.
When I listen to the audio of a RUclips video and slip my phone into my slightly sweaty shirt pocket (I’m in Florida), my shirt and my phone screen interact to call up an ad I don’t want. RUclips charges the advertiser for it. Amazon can pretend I’m watching Rings of Power in much the same way.
I honestly don't think he intended to buy Twitter, I think he said he was going to just to force them to release the numbers and to draw attention to it and their lies.
So shameful. LOTR is not that kind of IP that should have such disappointing numbers. Especially with having one of the best trilogies in cinematic history under its belt. If this show was handled properly it should have at least 6 Mil. viewers. But yet here we are.
We all this coming. Still…. 1.8 million is alot of people, was expecting less. Anyway, amazon shot themselves on this one for being overly confident arrogant on this. Also still mind baffled on why they bought the right and just completely derailed everything when it was better to make original series and not using an existing series. This shows they have no ideals in their heads.
1.8 million is abyssmal when you count that america has 148 million subscribers on amazon. That's like inviting 148 of your friends to a mega party that you spent a millions dollars to make it the bestest party ever and only 3 people showing up.
@@dredgewalker i was expecting lower than that. Considering my initial guess was 400 to 5,000 people and 5,000 is a generous number. I assume the 1.3 millions were glutton for pain.
Yeah I saw a conversation on twitter where some people were airing their grievances about Rings of Power - NONE of which had anything to do with the "diversity" choices. But then of course a few people attacked their opinions by accusing them of being racist. One particular person was sucking Amazon's dongle so, so hard, they happily and blatantly stated every single person who disliked the show were white, racist men and hated black people. I'm so sick of this. These white knights flinging the race card into every single conversation and nine times out of ten, they aren't even of that race! Someone else, who stated they were black, called them out on it and there was no answer back. I was going to join in as I'm also black, but the conversation had long since been over it seemed. That's really all they can use at this point. Instead of focusing on the actual problems people have with it (and I personally feel the race swapping shenanigans wasn't needed either), they scream racism towards any and all criticism. Thankfully the numbers don't lie.
I would love to see how Ring of Powers advertising is like in China. Think they did the same Star Wars did to Boyega in Star Wars on the posters and trailer? Is there any way to check that? That would destroy their hypocrisy if they did.
I would support lord of the rings if their entire marketing campaign didn't rest upon their whole "look how diverse and inclusive we are" message. Please Hollywood, stop with all that crap and just make decent stuff again. I'm not asking for an epic, just something I can watch and not complain about.
My mom is a Prime member and she hasn't had the desire to watch Rings of Power or THAT RIGHT THERE is proof that Amazon is pulling the 25M viewer figure right out of their asses. They are just taking everyone who has prime and using it as their number and it is complete BS. I mean there is NO F***ING WAY that 25M people actually watched the show I agree with Kneon there. I can actually see the Samba TV rating to be more accurate with MAYBE another 5-12M more people watching it worldwide i could realistically see. so the real number would be 13.8M total on the high end which is still 11.2M people lower than the claimed 25M people figure. THIS is why i would LOVE to see a bill passed into law that would force these big streaming services to be truthful about their numbers. I really hate how they just lie and stretch the the numbers to where they are OUT RIGHT EXAGGERATING them. Hell i think if they were forced to be honest about their numbers, I would see more people joining. If all these streaming services copied RUclips in that regard, they would be WAY better off.
“House of the Dragon” got criticism for race swapping Corlys Velayrion, but the marketing and promotion made people more excited. And it’s gotten a far greater reception, than The Rings of Power.
The diference is House of the Dragon has diversity but was a little more faithful to Martins book and more close to what fans expected. Rings of power is pure fanfic. and they dig their own grave by firing the tolkin scholar don't listen to fans and again go for an audience of twitter activists that are just a bunch of bots because they never see the movies or series made for them.
Amazon did word it differerntly in their official press release. They used "Join the 25 million global viewers this weekend and watch .....bla bla bla". This sounds nitpicky, but if you had correct data of 25 million households completly watching both episodes, you would not word it that way. That is something you really push into. But wording it "join in" is kinda iffy.
These companies easily get high 1st episode viewership just by culturally appropriating an existing franchise (LOTR) or name (Obi-Wan). The floppiness of the show takes time, like allowing a cheap wine to turn to vinegar by storing it in a hot garage.
well I saw images at least 20 times and the ads just for today. I'm guess they are counting those as AHEM "views"? stunning, brave and diverse and inclusive! I smell some oscars coming.
For me personally house of the dragon has a better plot and goes places. If you read the Game of Thrones books then you know where house of the dragon is going. As for rings of power I gave it two episodes and it still makes no sense.. I’m happy for a black elf , but I have questions as to why he has a perfect shape up in a magical middle earth with no electricity? 🤔
House of the Dragon actually has the Rights to the source material. Rings of Power does not, beyond the characters names and possibly the basic outline from the Appendices. What Amazon is trying to do is make a literal original story recycling the names of characters from Middle Earth's history.

They are creating according to their own personal perception of right and wrong and are trying to educate the audience on their view points. They don't care what people want...they are trying to tell you what you should accept. That's not marketing, that's pr0paganda.
@@hollywoodpineapple8337 But I think that's what they think will sell--they confuse social media likes with an actual audience and pander to these 3xtrem1sts because they think twitter is their audience.

The days of trusting these companies are looooong gone.
And there is no one to blame but themselves.
I thought Ewan was unhappy because he signed on for him paling around with Luke. Luke knew Obi-Wan, he just didn't know about all the Jedi stuff. So all you had to do was have Obi-Wan be subtle with his use of the force. That even makes more sense because he is supposed to be hiding.
Yeah Luke new "Old Ben Kenobi that lives out by the Dune Sea"
Problem is these people are NOT creative enough to write a show that Stays on Tattooine and Doesnt use Lightsaber Fights and Jedi Spectacle.
I doubt they even remember beggars canyon and Luke taking out WompRats in his T-16.
Of course that also raises the massive problem of making a MALE the Hero, which these people Hate with a passion.
I watched Michael Bay's Ambulance, I didn't know the actress that plays Reva from Obi Wan was in it. She wasn't an unlikable screaming moron in that movie-- unlike the other character written for the actress, followed by the mean tweets from Lucasfilm addressed to the Star Wars fanbase. This game of demonizing the public for not worshipping corporate product isn't funny or clever anymore
Just the difference between an actor playing a character and a writer making themselves the character through the actor.
Also say what you want about his films Michael Bay runs a tight ship
Disney just has bad writers.
How much you wanna bet Amazon has a massive warehouse full of TVs with Firesticks and just had them all watch The Rings of Power.
Yeah I bet they held a big bonus for whoever watches the whole season ?
People always say things like "why do you want to see them compete", it's because competition is good for the consumer it keeps creatives and companies on their toes and forces them to offer a superior product/service to get people on board.
let the show fail. let them learn their lessons. and we move on to watch good content
They won't learn their lesson. This has been happening on repeat for years now with dozens of films and shows doing the exact same thing and having the exact same result.
There's no lesson to learn because they know exactly what they're doing and just don't care. It's about pushing the 'message' at any cost.
What I don't get is why the bean counters aren't kicking these activists out.
I wish that was the case but for years they've showed they simply don't give a shit
They are incapable of learning, learning is racist, facts are objective and the world has to be subjective for their worldview to exist.
Amazon doesn't learn shit, look at their history trying to make video games, they just have money to waste.
"Both series have been warmly received by critics."
But only one has been warmly received by viewers.
Aren't the critic reviews for RoP along lines of "This is garbage." then rotten tomatoes rates review as fresh boosting review beyond what it actually says. Or am I thinking of something else?

I actually really like Corlys Valerions actor. He's very strong in tone and presence.
@@CaraesNaur I see people saying that they were watching other stuff yet somehow it showed they viewed ROP...so it's possible they are also stealing views form other stuff.

I wish Wheel of Time fans were as bold as Lord of the Rings' fans. I still find it hard to recover from what Amazon did that amazing series, and it hurts even more that they gave that train wreck a season 2.
I've cut back on how much I order from Amazon. I was spending over a thousand dollars a year there. Now, unless it's something I absolutely need and it's the only place I can get it, I'll buy it there.
Same here with Star Wars
Perhaps they're still at a loss for words. The wheel adaptation was as garbage as anything I've ever seen. They have it greenlit for season 3 as well. It took Dune 37 years to get a good adaptation after the first movie so just be patient :)
@@chrono2959 Star Wars is only on live support Thanks to Baby Yoda and the original trilogy. That's the merch that is selling, but I have noticed that there are some items trying to sneak Rey in. @@greenliongirl07 not to be annoying or anything but what does bad content on their streaming platform has anything to do with the convenience of purchasing goods from home? If you told me in 2010 that a spin-off of GoT would do better than a series based on Tolkien's work, I'd ask what you were smoking
This is exactly why I'm not interested. Absolutely love the Lord if the Rings & Hobbit trilogies and was kinda excited when I first heard about a TV show. Then, I kinda forgot about it until they started advertising for this. Being told that I have to like it or else I'm a mysoginist or racist pisses me off.
Almost any new show is on the top ten tho.
rings of power failed because they made fan fiction of pre existing books. they literally shit on the source material.
The UK could solve their energy crisis by strapping Tolkien to the power grid. One of them could be enough to get the job done.
ROP failing makes me happy
I had a massive video start on the main page of Amazon when it came out, I figured they were going to count that as a "view" lol
I don't know how many "oh no....anyway"s I have left in me at this point, but...🤷♀️
The thing was, people predicted this wasn't going to do well. & yet they continue pushing what is now a billion dollar money pit on us!
Im from Middle East and you have to understand something about those numbers:
The rest of the world dont have that inside information about the shows, whether they are going to be woke nonsense or not.
“Oh no,*pulling out bottle of champagne* The Rings of Power is failing? That’s such a shame. *pops the cork*.”
"The Things of Sour" with all the colorful cast members preaching diversity was destined to fail...
@@kkaugustine1958 Way to completely miss the entire point like an absolute champ.

Hollywood needs to remember they are a member of the service industry. Right now Amazon's rop is a horribly cooked dinner you orderd. Just sad that Amazon and Disney/marvel right now thinks that the dish they are serving is good when most is trying to send the dish back
The 1.8 million explains why they haven’t actually started pre production for season 2 yet.
OH THANK FUDGE! Finally something making sense. I'm just glad to see even shenanigans' can't hide the truth anymore.
Leia's Childhood Will Be Different Now
You know something was fishy when they used the "GLOBAL" view count instead of US numbers, it's like when a movie fails to get the number one spot and the studio comes out saying it's "the number one (movie genre) in the world".
I'll make Amazon pay by all means for ripping off my friend when he was looking for good drawing pencils and got Chinese garbage.
Speaking of China, that's where Amazon belongs.
Lying dishonest big tech. Well I am surprised
The interesting thing about that article Amazon says that 25 million people "sampled" Rings of Power. Sampled is a strange word right? Also, they lost 500,000 views from Episode 1 to Episode 2.
If Amazon's global is 25 million but only 1.8 million was watched in the US what is the house of the dragons global number if they had 4.8 million US?
Amazon put it on the tvs in the lunch room and counted all of their employees as having watched it.
Fun fact. There are about 2.4 times more amazon prime members than there are HBO members in USA and they're still losing in views..... >.>
If it was that popular they wouldn’t have had to create Amazon promotional packaging and add promos to the app at launch.
1 billion dollars in a TV series. It is the portrait of a speculative bubble that we lived in this modern times.
25 million "people" are not 25 million "households." More word games . . .
I blame Amazon's marketing. A lot of people don't even know there's prime video and when you see it, it feels like it's marketed towards old people while HBO has been around for 50 years and already has a base. It's marketed for adults and Game of Thrones was their meal cow for awhile.
"There are jobs in the line" but i would say they should have being fired day one.
When even Disney is outdoing your crap... You done f#cked up!! lol
I'm going to fall out of my chair laughing if "She-Hulk" (the utter disaster that that show currently is) outdoes "Rings of Power!" THAT would be the super low point!
This garbage has Bad Reboot written all over it :(

22 Million in India where they sell subscriptions at a loss.
I got a House of the Dragon ad in the middle of this video. :-)
It is race swapping because in the books, they're pretty specific that all Valyrians look like Targaryens.
I do not install spyware on my phone.
Fook Amazon.
I saw a comment the other day that said the show would auto play for them too but if that's true is a different story.
Amazon’s Rings of Sour didn’t do so hot.
…and this is bad news how, exactly?
When I listen to the audio of a RUclips video and slip my phone into my slightly sweaty shirt pocket (I’m in Florida), my shirt and my phone screen interact to call up an ad I don’t want. RUclips charges the advertiser for it. Amazon can pretend I’m watching Rings of Power in much the same way.
They hired special woke master of low grade fanfiction to write the script how dare you naming rings of power crap!
The Lord of the rings - the rings of power is a terrible name for the show.
Now I understand why Amazon pulled out RoP from the recommandations list... Because they ahve been exposed.
I just hope the viewership for Rings of Crap just continues to drop weekly.
Cobra Kai season 5 is coming this weekend, so I doubt Rings of Power is gonna be a priority
Say no to hate-watching peeps. You click, you get more of it.
I would love to see how Ring of Powers advertising is like in China. Think they did the same Star Wars did to Boyega in Star Wars on the posters and trailer? Is there any way to check that? That would destroy their hypocrisy if they did.
I think we knew this was going to happen.
Here in the UK at the end of August, Amazon was doing 30 days free Prime membership...I guess to help viewing numbers for Rings of Power.
I wonder how much Amazon has sunk into this. And if things keep going the way they have been, we might find out.
He says in this video, they spent 1 Billion dollars--yes, 1 BILLION dollars.
@@alanamileras2329 Sure as hell doesn't look like a billion dollars :D
I don't have an Amazon account and I have no intention of watching that woke garbage either.
Rings of Power viewers not that high? I'm shocked. Shocked! Well, not that shocked.
Hmmm, 25 million vs 1.8 million. Stunning. Brave.
Magic grooming tools.
House of the Dragon actually has the Rights to the source material.
Rings of Power does not, beyond the characters names and possibly the basic outline from the Appendices.
What Amazon is trying to do is make a literal original story recycling the names of characters from Middle Earth's history.
I think its started viewing the episode numbers vs watched the hole episode numbers , that click off is insane
Can't wait till this financially wounds/cripples Amazon.
Amazon: Rings of Power got 25 million views! It's our most successful show ever!
