I love how this simple change made the game much more enjoyable. If it was more self aware it could've just been a parody rather than fully canon-adjacent.

Just for that start alone it is genuinely already better than Hunt Down the Refund. It actually has you fighting in Black Mesa with other HECU grunts of your group...instead of plopping you into a random room with a confusing way to progress.
I love that it's also just genuinely more functional than the real thing, too. In the normal HDtF, the mines didn't actually deactivate, despite the game saying so.
They also made (or got, somewhere) a fuckton of custom enemies, including ones from HL2 and the episodes, which is just genuinely impressive.
From this point forward, i shall now refer to oversized objects as "Ahsoka Sized"

Deadwater somehow manages to get more and more convoluted and random and I’m absolutely here for it.
Doing the approach of making a HDTF parody but changing only a few things to make it more tangible is my favorite thing about that game. Like when someone did a Full Life Consequences styled machinima for that game it was still far more understandable as to what was going on in the story despite the deliberatly absurd broken english

Nothing like the original hunt down the freeman? Broken models, scuffed ai, reused assets, disjointed levels.
The only noticeable difference is the lack of any real dialogue from the main character.
