When you watch korean streamers like Knee and CBM (like I do) you start to recognize some names here and there and you remember which players are on top of the food chain in korea. Yeonarang is definitely one of them, he demoted CBM countless times and Knee takes many hours to demote him. Great player overall, would love to see him more often in tournaments
there’s alot of heavy hitters over there that just aren’t super well known i love getting to watch players like only practice, choksae, Dotoring, and breadman to name a few
Honestly yeonarang has been the strongest hwoarang in my book. He just doesnt compete as often but he would actually beat Knee at times in death matches online. He has the most fundamental style with hwoarang. Interesting enough, he relies on db 3 and iws 4 for pressure rather than forcing d3,4. Hes won tekken god prime death matches in set count vs tk muse, CBM, etc... in season 3.
I raise you Batz from Japan. Top 1 or 2 in my opinion. He doesn't participate in tourneys at all, except Evo Japan. But he is 100% best Japanese Hwoarang and imo rivaling Yeon and Rest.
Been a fan of Yeonarang and EDGE (formerly TKMuse) for years now. My two favorite Hwoarangs and definitely the best in the world. Happy to see you made a video on one of them :D
Yeonarang is a crazy player. He uploades online matches against the likes of Double, CBM, Chikurin, Lowhigh etc even demoting these guys on TGO death matches. Dude's a beast on long sets.
Holy shit, what an intense match from both players. Even though Jules got stomped, he put up a great show. And we got to see that both Yeonarang and Jules clearly being an absolute beast of a player with their exceptional setups, crazy movements, insane execution, well though oki. 10/10 matches.
A couple things I noticed that where said including knee that were not true. 1. Yeonarang is positive against knee, absolutely false. Knee beats yeonarang 6-7/10. Using hwoarang at this level is really impressive, you are absolutely right. Impressive. I wanted to play hwoarang back in the day, i liked his aesthetics, and that was a really important aspect for chosing a fighter for me. Far more than characters competitive potential. But i couldn't get as fluid as i wanted. Really frustrating. This guy is great. ...the more i watch...fuuuuck. this guy is a sick player. This fluidity and control with hwoarang...fuuuck.
In Tekken, characters that have a big learning curve, for example Yoshi, Hwo, Nina, Master Raven, Xiaoyu, Hei... etc. usually are slept on. Reason? Most players just try them out for a short while (even months are short when we talk about these lab heavy monsters), they get the impression of "Oh, the results I get with these characters are not the same as _insert simpler character here_, therefore they are not that good", which usually is not the case. Then you see Master Raven players like Pynia, Hwo players like this bringing out every single move in the movelist to shine in a matter of minutes, which took years to learn. Big respect to all character loyalists.
I’ve played hwoarang since tekken 3 but never played tekken seriously till this year. My friend group played casual and wouldn’t allow me to launch and juggle them they would gang up and call me a cheat so I would beat them gimped and they would still moan even though they were allowed to juggle me with feng?! 😅 finding tekken again after all these years has been amazing, great community and so much to learn (especially as a hwoarang) I’m stuck in overlord at the minute and have been playing since March, I’ve had to take some time off coz I’ve got carpal tunnel (I’m 40 so bodies giving out I guess?) having been in orange rank for about 2/3 months now I’m only just now finding a fluidity to my strings. Until now it’s been b3 db3 wr44 and wr3 to net me damage but I can can safely say I’m pretty much using everything now, still a long way to go. I would fully reccomend picking up this character as secondary especially if you hate fighting him. There’s so much to learn and once it starts to click you feel like you are flying. I’ve just learnt jfsr wall Enders d34 infinite blender and kbd I feel like getting all that stuff clean and using it in game is my next level up which will hopefully see me through red ranks. After that I’ll need matchup knowledge. I’d like to get to blue tank by tekken 8
I mean Yeonarang is objectively the best Hwoarang specialist in the world. This was made more evident by his two dominant ICFC Asia runs (other Koreans struggle at ICFC and yet he made it look easy). He's also pretty much one of the top 10 Koreans.

It requires very high execution. You will need to cancel the wave dash into ss, and then do the JFSR. Only few Hwoarang mains are able to do it consistently. Most people will just try and interrupt. From the match, u can see in the beginning that Jules has good experience against Hwoarang players. He knew when to side step the pressure. He also refuse to duck to minimise the risk. But that lead to a read from Yeonarang that completely obliterate Jules. By doing way more lows to continue pressure. The spacing and movement during OKI is also done spectacularly, he waited the right exact moment so it makes the B3 unblockble. Just shows how much controls Yeonarang has with the character.
