I love the sentiment but the more accurate thing would be less "Panda is actually good" and more "Rangchu had the skills and experience to win despite using an overall worse tool due in part to the situational advantage". Because in a competitive game, people play to win so the best tools are going to be used more often. Generally speaking, if a tool or strat is considered a gimmick or low tier, then there is likely a reason why it's considered a gimmick or low tier. Perhaps it is inconsistent or unreliable, or requires the opponent be unaware or is very situational or has terrible odds of winning. If the option was actually or secretly good the whole time, then people would use it and it wouldn't be considered a gimmick or low tier. In the case of Rangchu and Panda, Panda does have some serious weaknesses that keep her low tier compared to top tiers like Devil Jin. An important aspect to consider is that because of the meta, it's very possible most players trained and practised against top tier picks like Devil Jin and therefore were more familiar against him. I think it gives us all hope when someone who’s not “the chosen one” becomes chosen. And anyone who wins with low tiers is very interesting to me - someone who’s been a big fan of physical sports my whole life. I absolutely love when someone is less strong/less experienced and finds some mental way to win. That’s what esports and something like football/soccer have in common... there’s a lot going on mentally that we can’t see. The more you watch, the more you can pick up. Hungrybox is honestly the reason I got into esports... and I actually got into smash too, after never giving it the time of day (grew up in the melee days and it was too elitist for me). Not that hungrybox is my favorite, but learning of his story made me really wanna see something like that happen in real life. Same reason I like watching a good football/soccer match of two teams I don’t follow. Ajax FC just pulled two major underdog victories in the champions league, for example. Not a huge fan of Dutch football or anything, but... something very satisfying about them beating both Real Madrid and the team with the most dangerous tournament player (Ronaldo), Juventus.
If you want undergdog check Andy Ruiz vs Anthony Joshua. Its is the biggest upset in heavyweight boxing since Tyson losed against Douglas In one cornerwe have a undefeated giant of muscle, world champion of 3 diferent cathegorys, he has strenght, he has speed, he won a Gold medal in the olympics. In the other you have a short fat boxer with one defeat in his record that even when he was in the olympics he couldn´t win. Everyone tought that it was gonna be easy, it was only a warm up fight to Joshua until his fight against the other heavyweight champion Wilder was negotiated. The odds where 21-1 in Joshua´s favor. The first 2 rounds where as expected but Andy was doing a better fight that most people tought, in the third round Joshua was able to drop Andy in the floor. Everyone tought that it was over ,even when they saw Andy getting up everyone tought that the rest of the fight was a mere formality,Joshua also tought that so he went close to Andy to finish the fight, but he forgot one thing, a thing that its wildy know in any combat sport. Be careful when you have a mexican corned I don´t know if is the food, most likely the culture but a lot of mexican fighters fight harder after a down or at disadvantage. When Joshua step close to Ruiz, Ruiz didn´t back up and went straight into a brawl dropping Joshua to the floor. And again in the same round. The fight changed in Andy´s favor since that round but he didn´t get careless he piled the preassure slowly until the seventh round when Joshua was totally spent and ko the biggest Draw in boxing right now. It was amazing

Tier list aren't really something you should look too deeply into. Every Tekken character is very much viable because Tekken has pretty much very good balancing. Underdogs always make me smile no matter what they do ... the amount of effort and hardships just to get reach their dream is so heartwarming and inspiring. Kudos to you Rangchu, congratulations!
Like Germany in WW2

If you want undergdog check Andy Ruiz vs Anthony Joshua.
Its is the biggest upset in heavyweight boxing since Tyson losed against Douglas
In one cornerwe have a undefeated giant of muscle, world champion of 3 diferent cathegorys, he has strenght, he has speed, he won a Gold medal in the olympics.
Be careful when you have a mexican corned
I don´t know if is the food, most likely the culture but a lot of mexican fighters fight harder after a down or at disadvantage.
@@Motorata661 i would probably check on that. Thanks!
Basically, if you can win with the lousiest character with the highest "handicap", it simply shows how good you are.
A big part of it was likely the lack of matchup knowledge his opponents had, he tried better characters and failed many times.
It's more like the opponents studied the wrong subject.
They werr obviously never prepared for a Panda cos no one played her well enough to get far.
Yu could see in both DVJ fights from Knee and Qudas that they had no answer for Panda's mid poke > Low charge.

@@ashurad_fox5991 More often than not the parents are right though. Not many people who are NEARLY good enough at video games to win *money* with their level of skill.
I think that one of the things that gave him some adventage is that most pro players were used to play against the main characters. They werent totally ready for fights against such a weird character, panda's moves seem kind of slow and that could sneak throught opponents blocking reaction timing. Panda's moves are less ortodox than what theyre used to fight against.
I agree
I was about to say this. It could be.
It could be- if it weren't for King and his dedicated player as well as some other slow hitters that are more 'mainstream'. Panda Express mowed their asses down out of the blue.
They literally said that in the vid.
And that’s the beauty of it.
I love it when meta slaves get wrecked by off-meta. It makes Rangchu's accomplishment that much more impressive. You can make off-meta work, most gamers aren't willing to do what it takes to make that happen.
While since Panda was rare, few players had experience against her. Rangchu therefore had the experience and practise in fighting top tiers like Devil Jin while they didn't have the same experience against Panda.
So yeah, mad respect to Rangchu for his skill and knowledge of the meta.
@@FraserSouris You just reiterated what bro above said lol
It gives me an Infiltration Vs PR Balrog (Hakan vs Balrog) feel… Hakan was this character that everybody saw as a low-tier brick with some nice SPDs and grabs, but then people remembered, there wasn’t really a solid counter to him… Which caused Rog to start silently sweating bullets
As weird of a gimmick he has, Hakan is still one of my favorite character designs, and he does have some decent moves I think

Tier list aren't really something you should look too deeply into. Every Tekken character is very much viable because Tekken has pretty much very good balancing.
