    Bonsoir Monsieur,
    Débutant dans la peinture à l’huile , quel solvant et quel médium et dans quelles proportions vous me conseillez d’utiliser afin de rendre mes couleurs éclatantes et lumineuses et non pas faire de la boue , lors de la superposition des différentes couches
    Quelle est la marche à suivre pour peindre en une seule séance ?
    En vous remerciant pour vous futurs conseils
    J’adore votre style et vos magnifiques peintures.
    Cordialement

      Bonsoir Luc,
      J'utilise Liquin Original pour rendre la peinture sèche plus rapidement et pour appliquer la peinture plus facilement! ou vous pouvez fabriquer le vôtre en mélangeant 50% d'essence minérale et 50% d'huile de lin! Vous pouvez utiliser les deux médiums pour la peinture alla prima.

    What is in the little container next to your birch painting?

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  2 года назад

      It’s my painting medium which is a mix of odorless mineral spirits and linseed oil! 70% mineral spirits and 30% linseed oil.

    When you paint with oils inside do you have a window open or does the paint smell not bother you? Are you using water mixable or regular oils and is there a brand you prefer? Thank you for your demonstration!

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  4 года назад

      Hi, I usually paint inside my house, and I use Gamsol by Gamblin which is an odorless mineral spirit and has the lowest evaporation rate on the market!! Great stuff and really doesn’t smell. I keep the lid closed regardless and open it only when I need to clean my brush. I also use water mixable oils, and so far Cobra by Royal Talen worked the best! But I’ve heard that hands down Duo Aqua is the one to go to, and none have been disappointed! But it’s a bit pricier than most!!

    Please tell me about your mix of gamsol and linseed oil. 70/30, and its function. Slow drying? Thx

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  3 года назад

      Hi Paul, the mix is 70% Gamsol and 30% linseed oil ( or stand oil). Gamsol acts as a drying agent, so it will make the painting dry faster the more Gamsol you put in! You can also make a mix of 50/50! But I prefer the paint drying faster, so that’s why I put more Gamsol. Gamsol is an odorless mineral spirit. Gamsol helps if you want to paint alla prima (finish in one session), it helps the bottom layer tack up a little so that you can apply thicker paints on top without bothering the bottom layer too much! Hope this helps!

    • @paultaylor6167

      @@GebahiArtworks How much time was there after your mid value application for the next layer? Overnight? Less? I was curious that you didnt use the liquin at the second stage as well. Thx

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  3 года назад

      @@paultaylor6167 the first layer starts tacking up within 15mins with this particular mix I use! I start the second stage later on that day or the next day! 80% of the time I’ll use Liquin on the second layer if I need to extend the paint or need it to tack up faster for a thicker layer to go over it! It’s kind of a juggling act to tell you the truth. You kinda have to think what parts you want to tack up quickly as you work all over the painting, Lol !! But I definitely use Liquin for the first layer!

    • @paultaylor6167
      @paultaylor6167 3 года назад +1

      @@GebahiArtworks ok, so it's ok to have that first layer a bit tacky, then start the second? The fat over lean thing. I always figured even a semi dry layer would become blended with a wet first layer and not be able to dry by itself as the top layer seals it off. Confusing.

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  3 года назад

      @@paultaylor6167 yes, you can start the second layer when the bottom layer tacks up, just don’t add too much pressure, go lightly! Otherwise wait till it dries the next morning.

    Which liquid you are using that lil shining color...20 % have to use as you mentioned...what is its function

    • @GebahiArtworks
      @GebahiArtworks  4 года назад +3

      Both Liquin and linseed oil will give a little shine! Liquin is used as a drying agent and also helps move the paint around on the canvas. Adding linseed oil helps slow down the drying time of the paint and helps to thin down and move the paint around as well. Linseed oil adds fat to the paint! You can also use Liquin to thin your pain and dry quicker!. The second mixture you saw me use is 70% mineral spirits and 20% linseed, which is going to help the paint dry but not as quick as Liquin. You can make the mixture 50/50 and use it throughout the whole painting, just like you can with Liquin! Hope this helps, let me know!
