Does the Quran really say the Sun sets in a muddy spring?

  • In this video I look at one of the biggest errors found in the Quran - a verse stating that the Sun sets here on Earth in a muddy spring. I look at common apologist arguments & show how they fail in their efforts to spin the blatant error.
    Please share this video far & wide. It will hopefully help intellectually honest Muslims to look further & question beliefs they were indoctrinated in since birth.
    Many thanks go to the incredible Sye Ten Atheist for helping animate some of the video to help me out.

      Even with this translation it stills false,Loll
      ''He saw'' is not precise and can mean that he actually beleived that the sun is sitting in an (wahatever),so we come back to the same problem of saying that it's from his perspective and the mistake is made by Douh'ul Al Quarnayn,Not Allah (even though ''see'' can place more debate than ''Find'',cause ''Find'' is a more strong word,But Guess What ?
      The Koran Does actually say he ''Found'' and not ''Saw'' Hahahahaha
      Oh,and Also,''the sun setting IN an immense ocean'' is wrong,The sun doesn't seat IN an immense ocean,if it was a meataphor he could use ''as if'' (and the context doesn't confirm a metaphor) and Again muslims will say No,it's Dhoul Quarnayn who thought it was sitting ''IN'',And it's not a big Ocean,it's only a ''spriing'' that cannot reach the horizon from one perspective

      Hello Abdullah, I have just one doubt. Farid response has already "refuted" APostate prophet about what Masked Arab is saying as Masked Arab and Ridvan used the same arguments.
      The objection of Farid was about the throne of Allah who is supposed to be...above the 7 heavens, so if the sun sets in a muddy spring to go to its rest place in ordre to prostrate beneath the throne of Allah whereas the throne is above the 7 heavens, how the sun can be in this muddy spring and under the throne during the night at the same time ?
      If the sun goes under the throne to prostrate, it means that suns still enlights the earth after its sets.
      Farid concludes that the explanation of Ridvan and the Masked Arab is not accurate and fallacious... How can we refute that ?

      @@zhulqarnayn1634 the issue is whether the Qur'an tells the Sun sets in a muddy (hot) spring? The answer is clear- it does.
      Farid just believes the Qur'an is untouchable truth and cannot contradict to itself & " authentic " hadith . In reality we just have obvious contradiction between what Qur'an reports us and what we see regarding hadith. The Qur'an says that the sun sets in the hot/ muddy spring. People who made up the Qur'an were aware of that story and include it in their book and didn't bother themselves to check out if this corresponds to previous/ another ayah's about the Sun. We have similar case with Maryam and angels, when in the Qur'an Mary twice was told she got pregnant, first by angel Gabriel and in the second by angels.
      We have no need to try to combine the hadith and the Koran whatever it takes, when we are dealing with obvious contradictions between them.
      Regarding the hadith, Farid still trying to analyse it and make conclusions based on his Islamic view. From the perspective of this hadith , the earth is flat.
      we know that the sun brightens the earth at every moment of time, because it does not disappear anywhere. And in that hadith it is clearly stated that after sunset the sun moves to the place of its prostration, and it is after this journey it rises in the east, and so a new day begins according to this hadith. But in reality, the sun always brightens the earth, it does not go anywhere after sunset, only to reappear in the east later. According to this hadith, the cycle of the sun ends after it leaves in the West, and begins after its prostration, when it is allowed to arise in the East. Regarding this hadith it's impossible to see sun illuminating the earth after it's fading at evening

      +The Masked Arab I would really appreciate it if you could help to double check something for me, as my Arabic slides around, somewhere between "non existent" and "terrible" too "needs google" ! but, i've been working out my own list of qurans clear errors, and I like to call this one "the error of pairs"... 13/3 says "all the fruits have pairs of male and female" 36/36 says "all living things that grow from the earth are in (mating) pairs" 51/49 says "all things are made in pairs" 55/52 "every kind of fruit, in pairs". when you add in 6/143 "or what the two females may carry in their wombs"and 35/11 again claiming two females cannot get pregnant, it would seem to me that Allah doesnt know about parthenogenesis? or asexual fruit reproduction? the argument i've been having seem to center around the different uses of the word "pairs", its route words and its true meaning, and how, in some cases listed above it is "zawjayni" (13/3 and 51/49) or l-azwāja (36/36) (43/12) but 55/52 says "zawjāni". some also translate 20/53 to say pairs, (Yusuf Ali didnt) but, the word used there is "azwājan". so, essentially, the question boils down to the different words used. they are either "azwājin" "zawjayni" "azwājan" "l-azwāja" "zawjāni" (oh and... some people have already told me that 6/143 only applies to goats? but other native arabic speaking apostates say that it is more openly worded than just meaning goats? and could therefore apply to any two females?) anyway, sorry for the long one! of course, it will take time and effort for you to go through these, but I would be honored if you would cast an eye over this, and of course... it would really make my year if you made a short youtube about it! thanks again.

One meaning is 'it appeared to be' so it appeared to the person in the story that it set in a spring. Just like when watching a sun set on a beach, it looks like the sun is setting in the water but it isn't so it appeared to be to him. Plus the Qur'an talks about the planets being in there own orbit. I think the biggest argument against every holy book is the fact that ANYONE (even one person) can legitimately argue against one single interpretation. Like, say someone wrote an alternative to the perfect meaning. they should be clearly struck with some kind of holy punishment for altering almighty god's perfect word.
    If there was an almighty god, one would think that its most holy word would be absolutely clear in its meaning and impossible to argue against. (at least, one would think so....).And of course, that one specific interpretation would perfectly line up, without question or doubt, to every single one of the most insignificant observations about nature). Clearly, every single holy book betrays itself as less than almighty god's highest priority: the infallibility of his perfect revealed word.

      +The Masked Arab Actually in sura 18, there is ONE other passage many seem to overlook. it is the one following the sun setting. the ISSUE IS THE wall made out of iron and lead/copper, whatever that second one may be.
      on the color-chart: (when heating up the material) “red" indicates a temperature of over 800 Celsius! (it starts at one low 500 DEGREES)
      Water evaporates at 100 degrees C!
      To accomplish it it is required:
      Material: Iron & Lead
      Know how:
      build the necessary tools to accomplish it,
      HUGE movable “blow-torches” which can produce HEAT to heat up a great segment of the wall.
      Protective gear, to get even close to it, to “pour” molten lead into the cracks of the wall which is well over 690 C HOT.
      one cubic meter [m³] iron can be calculated as as having a weight of 7,8 tonnes or 7.800 Kilo.
      Taking a base of one and a half Meter for the wall, with a length of 25 meters to span:
      The bottom layer alone (with one meter height) is already 293 tonnes, now since the wall gets longer at the top, I took the liberty to add to the length each time one meter, to close the gap to the mountain.
      so the next layer is one meter thick, but 26 meters long this gives me 203 tonnes
      the third row is now 0,75 meter deep, but again one meter longer (27m) which gives me 158 tonnes.
      third row 158 TONNES (27m X 0,75m X 7,8 T/m³)
      second row 203 (26m X 1.0m X 7,8 T/m³)
      FIRST row 293 (25m X 1,5m X 7.8T /m³)
      TOTAL: 654 TONNES of IRON! (unless I've made a mistake in the calculation..)
      six hundred fifty and four tonnes of Iron would one need to build such a wall!
      I'm not good at creating any videos, but I'd love to see one done on this topic. :-)

      nonsense
      go and study basic literacy
      Quran has many genres.
      Some times scientific
      sometimes a story.
      sometimes historical
      sometimes legal
      sometimes theological
      This is clearly a story. The character zul karnain is seeing or finding the sunset in a muddy well.
      (Ps, You cannot even talk about sunset and science literally because the sun never actually sets anywhere.)
      Tafseer's are not always true. It is a qualified opinion to be respected. Tafseers are good when they use another verse from Quran or saying of the prophet as supporting evidence.

If I was in a situation where I could assist any ex Muslim I would attempt to do so. the internet is helping many Muslims especially the younger generation who were brought up with computers can reach out to non Muslims and ex Muslims. education is best method to do break down any dislusion and hopefully be able to awaken from this nightmare.

      But the problem is how to educate people? In Pak physics gets mixed with Islamiyat, no focus on evolution in biology, war histories and discussions of personalities such as Saladin Ayubi , Mahmood ghaznavi , Muhammad bin qasim all war lords etc
      Then we have this madressa problem and politics is so mixed with religion , even going against any of religious personality is a blasphemy .
      Look at what happened to Salman tasir and what is happening to the bloggers these days who were kidnapped.
      The mob is being incited towards hatred and these people who go aginst them are labeled as Blasphemors, I mean any body can take a law in their hands.
      I think poverty is also the main problem because poverty is directly related to reliance on religion.

      When it was written it is understandable. Just as 200 years from now they will look back and laugh at us for our ignorance. Imagine the lack of being well read back then. What it isn't is excusable today, in the 1st world countries that is poorly educated. There are 3rd world countries were there is no information dissemination nor formal education. It is sad for information is free to give and retain at the same time.

    • @ArinJager1
      @ArinJager1 8 лет назад

      ZarPof not even when it was written... and there are people who take all that literally...

    • @ZarPof
      @ZarPof 8 лет назад

      *****
      Of course it was understandable when it was written. Just because greater knowledge existed does not mean it was disseminated and to those uneducated (nearly all humanity) saying the world and sun were round and revolved around one another would have sounded as if it was just another religion for all asserted themselves as true. Remember back then everyone didn't go to school or have access to the Library of Alexandria.
      Think about all the things we're ignorant on today but we COULD look up. Daddy Long legs aren't deadly to people, there are 13 zodiac signs not 12, ghosts, bigfoot, internet scams, scratch and sniff phones, the list goes on. The collective human knowledge, while accessible fairly easily by almost anyone is not actually completely retained by anyone. This creates gaps in knowledge and ignorance, certain people prey on that.
      Granted people who made up the religion knew they were faking it but those around them were probably gullible.
      Also I agree, I never refuted that people take it literally.

    • @ArinJager1
      @ArinJager1 8 лет назад

      ZarPof they chose to be ignorant and replace the thirst for knowledge with "belief" - that's their problem, not mine... We're in better place, now, but in 200 years, it won't be that different from what it's like now... so, no, they won't think we were that ignorant (unless they figure out something revolutionary)
      thinking daddy long lags are poisonous is a mainstream thing? (all spiders are poisonous, all spiders bite, it's just that the dose of the poison is too small to even have any effect on you)
      the "13 zodiacs" is a weird thing... I think it's based on constelations... and there's far more constelations than just 13 (or 12)... and as there are 12 months, there are 12 zodiac signs for people to associate with, but that's a silly superstition that nobody sane gives a crap about, anyway
      bigfoot could be billion things... a big ape, most likely... there are new species being discovered, everyday... the Earth isn't 100% discovered, yet... and that's just the surface, thing about the ocean... there's just too much to know it all and we'll probably never know everything there is to know... but people in the past could be a bit more observant of their surroundings and shift their focus from stupid things to more important ones
      their ignorance is usually a choice and that's what bothers me
      god of the gaps is bullshit >:D taking it literally is a bad idea... never said you refuted anything, it's just mind bogling to think there are people that believe these things (flat earth, for example, like... WTF?!)
      I just don't get humans, is all... part of why I don't like'em all that much, but what do I know, right?

    • @ZarPof
      @ZarPof 8 лет назад

      1st I wasn't asking you to address all common beliefs I listed (I listed them because I knew the answers). 2nd Not all spiders are venomous, EX: tarantula . 3rd Daddy long legs aren't spiders. Also you said you don't get humans. You're a human, I assume you get yourself (if you don't I can't help you, sorry).
      In summation. 200 years from now humans as we know it probably won't exist (think bio-engineering), biological immortality will be a thing, and I don't disagree on anything else you said. Ignorance now a days (bar 3rd world starving populations) is a choice.

      so now come the point
      the particular verse you are talking about
      chapter 18 verse no 86
      حَتّٰٓى اِذَا بَلَغَ مَغۡرِبَ الشَّمۡسِ وَجَدَهَا تَغۡرُبُ فِىۡ عَيۡنٍ حَمِئَةٍ وَّوَجَدَ عِنۡدَهَا قَوۡمًا‌ ؕ قُلۡنَا يٰذَا الۡقَرۡنَيۡنِ اِمَّاۤ اَنۡ تُعَذِّبَ وَاِمَّاۤ اَنۡ تَتَّخِذَ فِيۡهِمۡ حُسۡنًا‏ ﴿۸۶﴾
      Translation: Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. ﴾86﴿
      in this verse ALLAH the GOD ALMIGHTY about him that "HE" found it setting in a muddy spring.... GOD is not telling by himself he points to Zilqarnain that it seems to him that it looks like setting in a muddy spring....
      if GOD makes that mistake then point is valid but GOD points to he ...
      its not enough further in this particular chapter verse no 90 The GOD ALMIGHTY says :
      حَتّٰٓى اِذَابَلَغَ مَطۡلِعَ الشَّمۡسِ وَجَدَهَا تَطۡلُعُ عَلٰى قَوۡمٍ لَّمۡ نَجۡعَلْ لَّهُمۡ مِّنۡ دُوۡنِهَا سِتۡرًاۙ‏ ﴿۹۰﴾
      Translation: Till, when he reached the rising-place of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had appointed no shelter therefrom. ﴾90﴿
      here GOD ALMIGHTY again talks about him that "HE" found it rising ona people for whom we had appointed no shelter there from
      this see GOD ALMIGHTY is not talking about him self :D
      i hope it clear misconception INSHALLAH :) i will suggest to read Quran by own self not from others ... islamic phobic people misleading many people thats why i insist read Quran by own self thanks :)

      +alex Adam "I travelled (moved) a road until (the time) i reached home (a place)'
      Quran 18:85-86 "and he followed a way until [the time], when he reached the setting place of the sun [a very particular place], he found it setting in a muddy spring, and he found nearby a people."
      "maghriba" مَغْرِبَ . means the place of sunset, as opposed to Ghuroob which means the time of sunset. It also means west. People used to believe that if you travelled far enough west, you would actually reach the place where the Sun set, as it appears to do in the horizon.
      Do you believe in the Sahih Hadiths?
      Sunan Abu Dawood confirms this verse of the Quran: Book 25, Number 3991: Narrated Abu Dharr: I was sitting behind the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) who was riding a donkey while the sun was setting. He asked: Do you know where it sets? I replied: Allah and his Apostle know best. He said: It sets in a spring of warm water (hamiyah). www.iium.edu.my/deed/hadith/abudawood/025_sat.html

    • @iamnowmuslim
      @iamnowmuslim 8 лет назад

      Richnz00: We are interpretation quranic verse and not a Hidth. quran is divine book but hadith is not a diving book.quoted by humans .it may contain misquotation and some time even bias.also SUNAN ABU-DAWUD, is not very authentic hadith book as he accepted by himself.
      The word that does refer to location is "ila الى" which means "to" and is always coupled with a location.
      If the verse "setting of the sun مغرب الشمس" is a location as skeptics claim then it should have been preceded by "to الى" and the verse should have read "الى ان بلغ مغرب الشمس" in that case the verse indeed would have meant the setting "place" of the sun; however this wasn't the case.
      The verse started with "until حتى" which only refers to time "حتى إذا بلغ مغرب الشمس". So "setting of the sun مغرب الشمس" is time of sunset (not a location). However it was mistranslated to the "setting place of the sun". The word "place" was added by translators.
      In Arabic grammar all places and locations are referred to in the male mode. For example, "هاذا المكان"... Since the setting place of the sun is a location then it should also be referred to in the male mode however this was not the case. This verse ends with female mode: "he found at it people وجدعندها قوما" here "it ها" the Arabic is in the female mode; which means it refers to the muddy spring (عين حمئة female mode) and not to the "setting place of the sun" (male mode).
      Quran 18.86 simply says that Thu Al-Qarnain continued moving until time of sunset, while setting he (and his army) were in a muddy spring and there he found people...
      حَتَّى إِذَا بَلَغَ مَغْرِبَ الشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَغْرُبُ فِي عَيْنٍ حَمِئَةٍ وَوَجَدَ عِندَهَا قَوْماً قُلْنَا يَا ذَا الْقَرْنَيْنِ إِمَّا أَن تُعَذِّبَ
      وَإِمَّا أَن تَتَّخِذَ فِيهِمْ حُسْناً

      alex Adam - There are multiple reasons why the Quran says the sun sets inside the muddy spring. Please listen to the Masked Arab's complete video.
      Your explanation doesn't make sense. This Dhul Qarnain kept going to a very particular place. The setting place of the Sun. He found it setting IN a muddy spring. The word used in fi, which means IN.
      The same word fi is used in 2:19 - "They put their fingers IN their ears", Just like the sun went in the spring.
      Then remember this Dhul Qurmain travelled on till the rising place of the Sun. The location of this place where these people were located, is the rising place of the Sun. No other location of these people is given, other than the rising place of the sun.

    • @Richnz00
      @Richnz00 8 лет назад +1

      alex Adam here is the translation word for word - ḥattā Until, idhā when balagha he reached maghriba (the) setting place l-shamsi (of) the sun, wajadahā he found it taghrubu setting fī in ʿaynin a spring ḥami-atin (of) dark mud, wawajada and he found ʿindahā near it qawman a people.(Lane's Arabic-English lexicon, Arabic-English Dictionary of Quranic usage)
      Clearly he travels to the setting place of the sun and sees it setting IN a muddy pool.
      Which country are you from? What is your mother tongue?
      You are ignoring the location of the people where the sun rises from 18:90

A little advice, if you want to put up an argument people will respect, stay true to your source material and don't change up any words (The Qur'an's meaning is best read literally), and please have respect for the people you argue with, even if you dislike 'infidels'.

      +magulater1 Really? It is amazing the amount lies Atheists posts. Isn't it? I can take this video apart... and present a very good Muslim counter argument. Here is the thing... just like how a Muslim will in this matter support a Muslim... an Atheist will support an Atheist. So when you say a great upload. That is merely bias and nothing more.

      If Columbus had travelled to the Americas and found the Sun physically setting in a muddy spring somewhere in Mexico... do you think Muslims today would still insist that the verse was only from DhulQarnayn's vision? Or would they have no problem saying it was meant to physically set into a muddy spring?

      The Masked Arab The first link doesnt seem to be working for me. The website appears but no text. The English text isnt available to preview on google but I was able to find an electronic version of the text on a database I have access too. Very interesting read, thanks for showing me this!
      There is one issue though, these pre-Islamic legends are transmitted in texts that were composed a few centuries after the rise of Islam and they could be the result of a conflation or mixing of a pre-existant legend with the Islamic story of the sun setting in the spring. The notes on that poem actually say the king mentioned is a legendary one from Quranic tradition. Though I supposed that is to be expected considering literacy was very limited at that time.
      I also wonder if "ocean-spring" in this instance is a rationalized translation liberty they took considering the absurdity of a sun setting in a spring, or if this text uses a different wording than usual.

    • @TheMaskedArab
      @TheMaskedArab  8 лет назад +3

      ***** The King mentioned is in reference to DhulQarnayn, not Tubba.

    • @usedx115x
      @usedx115x 8 лет назад

      The Masked Arab Okay, just to make sure I'm not mixing something up, the Tubba is the pre-Islamic dynasty of southern Arabia, and DhulQarnayn is the legendary king from Quranic tradition, and according to that tradition DhulQarnayn was a pre-Islamic ruler, so then the story about him is also likely pre-Islamic in origin?

      corpus.quran.com/wordbyword.jsp?chapter=18&verse=86#(18:86:1)
      The Quran claims to be a clear book with all verses fully explained in detail... and that's what it clearly says. Let's ask Muhammad though, this is what he said in a sahih hadith:
      sunnah.com/abudawud:4002
      If you do some research though, you'll see that this verse (and the Gog and Magog story, and the iron wall) come from pre-Islamic Alexander Romances...

    Good video! But I found this comment from a muslim on another video: The word he translated as “found” is وجد i.e. ‘wajada.’
    This word is used to describe the perception. See
    the proof from the Edward William Lane’s Lexicon.
    He found it; lighted on it; attained it; obtained it by
    searching or seeking; discovered it; perceived it; saw it; experienced
    it, or became sensible of it;
    It is The finding by means of any one of the five senses
    What are people's thoughts on this?

      +Gloomshadow100 ok one mythicist pointed out that Alexander was worshiped as a god, so if it was him they wouldn't keep that character as alexander, they would have changed it.

    • @Gloomshadow100
      @Gloomshadow100 8 лет назад +1

      +Gloomshadow100 Masked Arab, I have a reply for you from a fellow Mythicist named Geoffrey Tolle
      Very interesting. I had two thoughts which someone more knowledgeable in Arabic might be able to pursue.
      1) The very short description given by Allah, could fit the style of alexandrian tales. It doesn't fit mosaic tales (that I know of) very well. There is a very good third choice, however - Solomon. I seem to remember that some of the alexandrian tales derived from solomonic tales and vice versa. The figure is named "Zhul Qarnaian" or "Dhul Qarnain". I am not sure if a good argument could be made that this name is a corruption of "Solomon".
      2) The story refers to the Sun setting in a "spring of dark mud" ('ayn hami'atin). I would like to suggest that this translation is completely wrong. It may be a corruption of 'ayn hamyatim ("watcher / star / angel of the sunburnt"). In this case hami'atin is the (feminine?) plural of ham which means "hot" or "sunburnt". This would be completely in keeping with finding a people (generally interpreted as burnt) nearby.
      Thus, the original version of this story was probably describing the Sun's setting place among attendant dark-skinned (from exposure to the Sun) angels. Seen in solar chariot imagery, these would have been the angels that cared for the solar horses and got them ready for the next day's flight. Seen in solar barge imagery, these would have been the angels that manned the barge and helped guide it through the Underworld

    • @Gloomshadow100
      @Gloomshadow100 8 лет назад +1

      +Gloomshadow100 ok he has thought more about it.. here is a re write. I had a couple of thoughts which someone with more knowledge of Arabic might be able to pursue.
      1) This short tale does, indeed, seem similar to alexandrian tales. The fact that it is followed by a tale of traveling to where the Sun rises and finding the peoples of Gog and Magog (at least I think it does) which is a tale directly associated with Alexander would seem to support the Alexander theory. It does not resemble any particular mosaic tales that I can think of. But there is a third possibility - Solomon. It is very similar (in style) to several solomonic tales and I'm pretty sure that I remember some overlap between alexandrian and solomonic tales. Is it possible that Zhul (or Dhul) Qarnain is a corruption of Suleiman?
      2) The tale refers to a "spring of dark mud" ('ayn hami'atin - as near as I can transliterate). I suspect that this original is corrupted and, therefore, the translation is wrong. In Hebrew, 'ayn means "star". It also has a meaning as a type of celestial spirit, a watcher (the stars are always watching through the night). The idea that the Sun sets beside a star / "angel" would be completely appropriate here. Since it is singular (though I would much prefer plural), I would even suggest that the Morning Star - Venus - is indicated

    • @Gloomshadow100
      @Gloomshadow100 8 лет назад

      +Gloomshadow100 What, then, about hami'atin? I suspect that it could derive from the semitic root ham for "hot" or "sunburnt". Biblically, the land of Ham was in Africa and inhabited by negroes. The "-in" at the end of hami'atin is a plurality indicator. The "-t-" might indicate a feminine gendering but I can't be sure. If this derivation is reasonably correct, then 'ayn hami'atin could translate as "star / watcher / angel of (the) sunburnt". This might, in turn, refer to the people indicated to be nearby.
      If this derivation is correct, then the passage does not refer to a "spring of dark mud" but to a kind of pit crew for the Sun as it ends its day journey and must prepare, overnight, for its next day journey

    • @Gloomshadow100
      @Gloomshadow100 8 лет назад

      +Gloomshadow100
      3) Why would there be a need to teach the word of 'Allah to people (angels) attending the Sun? I'm not sure. It is possible that this is simply an older story re-tooled to serve islamic needs for answers about how the world works. On the other hand, the peoples of the land of Gog and Magog were powerful but without knowledge of the "Koran". This would seem to suggest the idea that the word of 'Allah had to spread out from Medina / Mecca / Jerusalem to the far corners of the world and that not even the most powerful beings at the far corners of the world could have heard the uncorrupted word of 'Allah before it was given to Mohammed.
      Beyond that, these people attended the Sun. One might presume, from the islamic point-of-view, that they even worshipped it. Worshipping the Sun as a deity was one of the most common "blasphemies" encountered by Early Islam. Thus, even though these people were involved in some of the intimate workings of the world, they were worshipping a god other than 'Allah and needed to be preached to by Zhul Qarnian.

Such is the design of the Almighty, the All-Knowing.
    39. And the moon: We have disposed it in phases, until it returns like the old twig.
