The best part about Ichiban? He has literally every single reason to hate the world, hate the yakuza, hate everything that's happened in his life. But he doesn't. He just stands up, that goofy smile plastered on his face, and braves whatever comes his way. There is zero vitriol in his heart. He will see the good in everyone and everything wherever possible. Life dealt him the shittiest hand, yet he still manages to come out on top with a royal flush every single time. Sure, he's a little stupid, but every real man ought to be. Ichiban is the epitome of the indomitable human spirit. Be like Ichiban, and if you can't, strive to be, little by little.
From my own understanding, that heli flying away whilst the 3jimas and Sawashiro and Ebina being left behind is a symbolis of the Yakuza finally being a thing of the past
I like how the crowd stop cheering as Ichiban was getting beaten. They're slowing realizing that they are cheering and praising a dude who beating a helpless dude, Who isn't even fighting back, instead of getting a brawl like how they wanted for their social media they ended up looking like fools cheering for violence to a guy who didn't do anything but just walking on the street. Like regardless he was an ex-Yakuza (despite knowing that Ichiban's slander was already cleared up by Chi-chan as a lie) they are the bad guys in this scenario.
Makes me wonder if it possible for people be aware of how there’s people too cruel with their recording shit for social media. Kudos to crowd realizing how the beating of Ichiban was wrong.
I love how this mirrors the ending of 7 and how he ended with Masato, here he's finally carrying someone to SAVE them and SUCCEED, whereas with Masato he was carrying a dead body to try and save. One of the main villains, he finally gets to save someone before they fell deeper into despair and never come back from it.
One of my absolute favorite character traits of Ichiban is that he always forgives people, even people who use their taxi driving job to rob someone, even people who deceive him and leave him naked with nothing else on a beach, he'll go out of his own way to be their friend, no matter what.

I disagree (for the sake of discussion) While yes, Ichiban's willingness to forgive people is definitely a lovable trait of his, it gets boring if it just keeps on happening. This is seen in him forgiving Eiji. While it is in character for Ichi to believe in second chances and forgive people, it shouldn't have been THAT easy to forgive him. Don't really like how, despite everything (got wong tou and hanawa killed, played off of his sympathies [very fucked up, ichi should have acknowledged this], kept on mocking him, and was gonna hand over a child to be killed) he still called Eiji his friend because they had "fun" together in Hawaii. Didn't even bother acknowledging all of the horrible acts that he committed. I don't like how hard they tried to make Eiji be a "what could have been" with Masato. Ichi forgiving Masato was masterclass unlike with Eiji. Ichi forgave Masato out of unconditional love, plus they had history together. But with them and Eiji? Buddies after having lunch together? Despite everything he's done? We all know that Ichi has crazy charisma, but such charisma shouldn't work on the biggest of demons. This could be a good setup for the next game. Ichi suffers the consequences of how dangerously willing he is to give people second chances. The thing about Ichi befriending everyone is that it makes the story less interesting if it just revolves around good and bad, no in between like the grey morality discussed in both Judgment games, especially in LJ. It also reduces the meaning of villains acting ill towards Ichi if we know that he'll just forgive them anyways.
There's so much to love about this ending. Nanba praying next to Kiryu. Out of everyone in the group, he has the most medical expertise, and he's praying. Shows how close to death Kiryu is, in that moment. Ichiban ending the day by saying it's time for grub, just like how he ended the day when helping that ex-yakuza at the start of the game. This is just another day for him, his heroism is simultaneously sublime and exceptional. Both Kiryu and Ichiban have their big "beat the bad guy" moment, but their true moment of heroism is when they apologize and take on the hate of another in the case of Kiryu, or forgive and reach out a helping hand in the case of Ichiban. It's atonement and forgiveness that makes these characters strong.
The person who thought up this scene might possibly have been influenced by Christianity in general. I was moved when I saw Nanba praying after you pointed it out but Ichi man... bearing Eiji's burden like the cross as he's having shit thrown at him in a scene reminiscent to the Passion. I don't usually bring up my faith when talking about games, let alone JRPGs nor do I actively hide it but this is one of the first gaming scenes that spoke to me as a Catholic.
@@Gundamseeddabest If you want to think of it another way, I discussed this with a couple friends a while back. Kiryu undergoes the same merits as Christ. In Yakuza 6, he's declared dead to protect those he cares about, and does all he can to serve others at the cost of himself. At the end of Infinite Wealth, Kiryu realizes his life has had worth and meaning, and finally stops running away from his legacy. In the final section of Infinite Wealth, Kiryu chooses to take on the Yakuza's past in his own words, and the way he does that comes in the form of atoning for the sins of all of the impulsive Yakuza in the world. He chose to sacrifice his life to atone for the sins they commited and allow them to be forgiven for their actions, especially for the sake of Ebina who was one of many who was wronged and who'd become the type of person he despised. After the fight ends, he begs Ebina to forgive them all and quite literally almost dies, thankfully having survived by the post-credits scene, taking back his name as "Kazuma Kiryu". The man "dies" for the sake of others, takes on the sins of the world he's responsible for creating, and is ressurected in name after 3 games. It really hit me realizing how poetic all of this was, being someone raised as a Catholic.
Saeko touching Kiryu's shoulder in the helicopter is another small thing I really love. They haven't been friends with Kiryu for very long but they all care so much for him already.
Ichigo is just a sucker but is protected by plot armor against a persons motives and actions against him NO ONE BEHAVES likes this in real life especially since the guy he is carrying is complicit in the murder of 2 ppl in the safehouse and complicit in kidnapping a 10 yr old girl ; fk Ichigo character I made Saeko Chan fuck Chief
@@palegrate392 It could be a joke, but I mean it lol. I thought “Infinite Wealth” was going to end with everyone being rich. Specifically, the real pendant being sold and the Lani sharing the money. But as soon as this cutscene started, I realized just how “rich” Ichiban actually was.
My mom passed away during my playthrough of this game and I've been burying myself in it as a coping mechanism and I cannot describe just how hard this entire sequence hit for me. Seeing somebody you cherish so much go into the ER, unsure of what the outcome will be. Visiting them like Haruka did, being unsure of what the catscan will show. Just hoping for the best as it's left out of your control. Thank you, RGG, for giving me the best coping mechanism I could have asked for during the hardest time in my life
I get that a lot of people are mad of Ichi forgiving Eiji, but I believe the biggest lesson of Infinite Wealth about 'Second chance'. Everyone do deserve a second chance, including yourself. Forgiving people, as you will be able to forgive yourself, thus giving yourself second chance while those people would given their chance to seek redemption. Ichi got himself a second chance with other's help, which is exactly why he also believe others deserve one too, and he's right, Sasaki do dedicate to fix his life and deserve one but the society failed him. Kiryu didn't blame Ebina's self destructive revenge too as Ebina's anger do justify, so he begged for his forgiveness in the name of yakuza instead, as he too give Ebina a second chance to correct his path. I don't know Ebina's choice just yet, but if he do drop his revenge against yakuza, he too will let go of the cruel burden he put himself into and taking his own second chance to live a better life. Here's an actual IRL situation in Japan, if you formerly commit crime, got yourself into any form of controversy or joined a criminal group/yakuza etc. Your future will be either social death or going back to criminal, as most of the society will rejects you continuously while the gov would give you bare minimum citizen right until you die. I believe RGG picks a Japan society topic that they unable to speak up loud and clear like their previous games.
People that hate the ending are forgetting that Eiji is basically a Arakawa Masato 2.0 version that Ichiban managed to save. There’s a lot of references to that throughout the game, and it is especially referenced during their confrontation at the night club when Eiji says “we were both telling lies, the wheelchair guy that needs saving and the Yakuza with a soul”. On top of that, Eiji knows Masatos story considering his pretty big role within Bleach Japan prior to the game along with his information research skills.
@@beatsbyadmiralz5915100%. A lot of people just want to look at it on a surface level. The parallel between him and Masoto is what made this ending hit that much harder for me. Just seeing Ichi being able to help someone climb back from the hatred that consumed them brings happy tears to my eyes
Joon gi han I said that it should be on is interesting because of how he attracts the most loyal friends and the toughest enemies the infinite wealth are those loyal friends
Even Ichiban forgiving Chitose is more of an Ichiban thing to do besides Chitose opening up to Ichiban on how messed up her family is and what's her original purpose on the Tatara Channel before Eiji took advantage of it besides I'm aware how extremely difficult it is to get a second chance in life especially in Japan in reality with the labels won't go away so easily even after decades.
Not just that it also mirror what happened with Ebina, Ebina became angry and bitter since no one was ever there for him or his mother. Ichi doesnt want to leave anyone behind, being there for people saves them from becoming hateful and wasting their lives.
Ichibans character reminds alot of the saying the richest people are the ones who have the most kindness/Compassion.I guess in the regard ichiban truly has "Infinite Wealth"
Loved one of the lessons they teach you in this game... Second chances. We fuck up and make stupid mistakes. People aren't born in this world evil but were put in circumstances that forces them down the wrong path. Ichiban and Kiryu see these people and doesn't hesitate to lend a hand. At the end of the day, we're only human. If only there were more people like them in the world... I feel like KIryu finally knows that he also deserves a second chance in life as well...I hope his treatments go well and we see him having the time of his life with his family since he finally regained his name :)
An important point even I admit I missed on my first viewing. Not only did Ichiban never have to fight Eiji directly, but Ichiban utterly and completely destroyed his twisted worldview and cynical outlook on both Ichiban and the ex-yakuza. No wonder he's crying. He's being completely and utterly wrecked with every blow Ichiban takes for him.
5:04 a positive depiction of masculinity right there I was punching him in the face and when he tires out even though ichiban was fully capable of laying him out he chose to gently push him to the side
That’s what I feel is the most manly thing a dude can do. Shoulder responsibility. Shoulder pain. Shoulder blame. Shoulder whatever he has to, as long as it serves what he believes in. As long as it helps _someone._ As long as doing so leaves the world a slightly better place. The most manly thing is self-sacrifice.
It's also the title for the final chapter in IW in JP. Where in English the chapters are named after Elvis Presley's songs, JP chapters are based on 70-00' era Japanese songs, and this song is chosen for the game's finale.
I am a 46 year old man, but for some reason this makes me cry like a baby. I cried when I beat the game last week and saw this. I just searched for it on here, and I see that it still makes me cry. I love Kiryu, Ichiban, and the rest of the party. I have spent so much time playing Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1 and 2, Yakuza 6, Yakuza Like A Dragon, and now Infinite Wealth. I love Yakuza, and that characters almost seem real to me. When I found out that Kiryu had cancer I shed a couple tears. I hope that he doesn't die and remains a part of the Like A Dragon world.
I just watched this storyline until the end right after the Easter Day. This game's storyline teaches all about forgiveness and second chances, it helps me understand more that no matter how many times we as humans repeated same sins in life, God is still forgiving us all.
After the whole game, although Ichiban is the protagonist, I felt that he was a little overshadowed by Kiryu, although it is implied that Kiryu is no longer as strong due to cancer, to which Ichiban puts the weight of the team on his shoulders, everything. This changes at the end, to which although Ichiban's ending is the ''soft'' boss, Ebina was the real castle boss where even being lvl 55 it was very difficult due to the rotation of teammates that the game gives you. I thought that at the end there would be a 2 or 3 hour cinematic, but the truth is I was quite satisfied and the game tells us everything without saying anything when we see Kiryu on his way to undergo chemotherapy while Haruka and Haruto are waiting for him to return from treatment. Now when Ichi takes Eiji on his back and tells him "that's why we are friends" while Eiji cries on his shoulder, tears accidentally started to fall (something that had happened to me in Kiwami against Nishiki in the memories of the fight, with Ryuji and the end of Gaiden) That made me reflect on my previous thought about how Ichiban was overshadowed, an erroneous reflection on whether Ichi is not a legendary former yakuza, he is stronger than Kiryu because he has had the resolve to help the people without needing to reach the climax of seeing broken people where only the path of the fist is the solution. I was quite afraid of seeing the two protagonists in the game and ending up with the previously explained feeling at the end of the game, but it was quite the opposite, this game became one of the most special for me. Ichiban really deserves the title of ''Hero of Yokohama''
@@DanielFerreira-ez8qd Nope lol. The Ishin intro had One OK Rock in the original, they didn't have it in the remake. Heck, the remasters don't have the licensed intro songs for 4 and 5.
Ichiban never holds grudges and is always willing to forgive people who harmed him as long as they're willing to apologize. There's no hatred in his heart, only love and hope. He might be broken as fuck, but he's the wealthiest person ever.
You're never in too deep, there's never a point of no return. Even when the screaming masses want to rip you apart, even when your own body is trying to kill you. You CAN get through this. All it takes is somebody willing to be there for you.
second chance isn't pure white unstained by action of whatever you did before because "i forgive you" atonement is a lifetime cost, but if you still have life it never really too late. after all THE LIFE WAS INFINITE WEALTH ALL ALONG 🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's not just Ichiban "carrying Eiji's cross" and getting "stoned" with trash and "lashed" by the influencer: Kiryu is also "taken up" to "heaven" by "angels" after his symbolic death against Ebina. Hence why Nanba, the doctor, is praying.
This is a bittersweet ending considering I went straight to Infinite Wealth from Gaiden especially on the Kiryu parts where now he relies on others with the way Ichiban's friends treat Kiryu reminding me of Tsuruno and Shishido. Seeing Ichiban carrying Eiji reminded me of Masato sure but its painful to see his friends especially Adachi, Chitose and Han Joon Gi not around unlike Kiryu where even the Tojo Legends have a blessing on his friends helping.
I never realized people were mad at Ichiban forgiving Eiji but playing this game taught me that even the worst of the worst can change if we give them a chance. Or at the very least atone for what they did and move on. Like the repeated phrase “life goes on”, it’s an absolute truth in life. Never dwell on the past, keep going. There was a time where all I did was dwell on the past, and it almost consumed my mind. As cheesy as it may sound, I had friends I could trust and talk with about my thoughts. Playing this game felt like a mirror of how my time back then was in terms of that feeling of being unable to move on. RGG studios did an amazing job. ❤
Here after beating Like a Dragon Infinite wealth in my birthday, what a game, what a journey, what a ending, what a song...one of my favorites games ever.
The great thing about Ichiban is that they never try to make him overshadow Kiryu in terms of strength or achievements. They don't tear Kiryu down to build him up. He's hjs own character and therfore has his own story. Kiryu is held in as high of a regard as when he was the main character and anyone who says otherwise is treated as the outlier.
I've had someone try and tell me that then man these games are woke I didn't even argue I'm like no these games call right and wrong out as they see it I mean the villains of bleach Japan were basically sjws
Gave me goosebumps when this song played at the end. Haven’t heard it since 09 during the drama of Jun Matsumoto and Shun Oguri “smile” Made me really sad and happy with the ending
This ending probably would've worked better if we got to see Eiji get absolutely wrecked when he got home to Japan and saw how quickly "his" audience turned against him. If they showed us his leg getting broken on-screen, people would probably not hate this ending so much. Even though it wouldn't actually change what happened, as an audience we need to see at least one of the three main villains get properly broken by the consequences of their actions alone.
I just finished the game yesterday night and I put in 100 hours on it. This was such a great game, I enjoyed the story, and the turn-based combat was great (an improvement from Yakuza 7), love 2 new characters that join Ichiban team each of them has a great back story to them. I'm glad that they brought back a few old job classes (Host being my favorite one). There are a couple of cutscenes that almost made me cry. I still need to go back and play other yakuza games.
I recently lost something expensive, and it was given by someone dear. I've been down lately, but listening to this song has uplifted my spirit. Thanks to Infinite Wealth game and the singer, Sheena Ringo for this meaningful song.
@@lunerdytrenlal3here’s hoping. I enjoyed the hell out of this one, even with the wonky storyline. They really don’t need to change the gameplay since this is this game’s biggest strength
This ending is beautiful as a halfway point, not as a real ending. This means that the next games are going to be better and even more touching than these.
Ichiban in this game and as a character shows all of us what it should be to be human and life love to the fullest! Id doesn’t matter what others people think of u if they don’t know u! Ass long as u be polite and stay to ur perspectives and thread others with dignity and respect u alawys be able to connect and be a person that can change things! So i will admire this behavior and seek to go in this big footsteps of ichiban! Thank u
Had the same question when playing the game myself, like I swear they never showed how he got to be like that, last time we saw him he was just laughing that everything was going according to his revenge plan
Ok, the ending is Beautiful, the message is incredible... But can we talk how that happened 5m to the police office and them didn't give a fuck for that mob beating our boi Ichi?!
she became the chairwoman of the fujinomiya group, probably because her father stepped down, so if she doesn't go to jail or something we could possibly see her in the next game.
This scene would've been even more impactful if Eiji earned his redemption imo. Maybe some more bonding with him and Kasuga or have him be slightly less evil during the nightclub scene
I highly disagree, the message of the scene is that no matter how horrible mistakes you've made, or how horrid you've acted. Accepting that you made those mistakes and owning up to it, and doing better is always a option. It's never too late to turn around. Giving him a slow redemption arc would've nullified it into a typical story you've seen countless times before.
My theory on how Kiryu will live on. Bryce Fairchild looked like he hadn’t aged a day and theoretically 90 years old. They never explained how or why, nor do we know Bryce’s fate after the fight at Palekana island. Safe to assume he’s in prison. In the next game, they could discover how he’s treated his body so well and use that to find a cure for Kiryu’s illness. We all want to see him grow old and reunited with his kids. I hope my theory is correct and they don’t do anything stupid like kill him off.
Ah, so that's where the title applies. (I'll be honest, I don't fully understand where the 'infinite wealth' was in the story, unless it was supposed to be the nuclear waste stuff.) @@blind3dbylight
@@ImPersonNationI was thinking of the business of hiding people/nations dirty laundry as the "infinite wealth", but during this final scene and song it clicked for me that it truly is Ichi's unwavering belief in others that is the Infinite Wealth
The Wealth was not money, but the Bonds they shared, at least that's my takeaway from the song lyrics seem to me how I come to the conclusion @@ImPersonNation
I get the whole, "hey face the punishments for what you've done, and then try again once you're out." But does Ichiban REALLY think Eiji is gonna survive prison?
It's his best shot at survival. To hope that the law takes that into consideration and puts him in a safer place. Like Ichiban pointed out, it's not like being out there changes anything, people will still wanna go after him. Their hope is that Eiji turning himself in and paying for his crimes will try and lessen the grudge and anger people have of him (especially the yakuza he wronged), Ichiban is forgiving to a heroic fault, but they're not shying away from showing that the world can and won't care.
Am i the only one who would have prefer to see Chitose instead of ichiban ? "SHe find the force to forgive eiji thanks to Ichiban and they decide to take on tatara action together "
Im literally not trying to start a religious debate bc I dont give af if you are or not, but is it just me or were they almost trying to paint ichiban as a christlike figure with the whole message about atonement even for people who have done awful things, and then carrying eiji while crowds are jeering at him and beating him up while he doesnt fight back? Its kinda interesting and it almost feels like more than just a coincidence
Nah, the message is more about forgiveness, how much ichiban has grown since the last game (when he almost killed a man) and that you can’t punch all your problems away
i saw another person say this about kiryu, how he died for 3 games and came back to take the sins of the yakuza, but i think these themes are prevalent in many yakuza games especially redemption, in yakuza 1 nishiki "redeems" himself at the end aswell as mine in 3, hamazaki in 4, baba in 5, and kiryu himself throughout the series seems to always be trying to atone for something. its probably no coincidence considering yakuza 1, 2, and gaiden have gospel songs as the ending themes.
This comment may be a month old, but yeah it was 100% intentional they're trying to draw comparisons between Ichiban and Christ. One of the wider-spread advertisements you could find for the game depicted the characters reenacting The Last Supper (with them all being switched around in each ad so you'd never guess who the betrayal comes from), so there is most definitely intent behind it.
@@REDEEMERWOLF yeah imma have a lot of compassion for someone who tried to kill a child, blackmail someone, manipulated the public and planned to help ship Yakuza to their certain death just cause they lost their 9-5 job
This is one of the wrongest things among the many wrong things in Y8. Eiji didn't deserve any mercy and forgiveness. He wasn't an old friend gone bad, like Masato or Nishiki for Kiryu. He was an enemy since the beginning and he was deceiving Ichiban since they met for the first time. It was really pointless acting in that way for Ichiban, unless they decided they want to turn him into the new Jesus Christ...
Way to completely miss the whole point. Masato did way worse than Eiji and Ichiban was willing to forgive him. The whole point is that Eiji throughout the game was a terrible person, if you wanted the same "Ichi forgives a person who did things wrong but didn't want to" Chitose is right there, and that's part of why she's a character. Eiji is right there because he's suppose to be terrible and did terrible things but Ichi forgives him anyway because there's part of him that can change.
Masato wasn't even an old friend technically he always treated ichiban like crap so realistically Eiji treated ichiban better than Masato ever did even if it was all fake and meant to hurt him
I know and that's why I have no sympathy for Masato at all. But I can understand Ichi know him by long time and grew some kind of bond with him, being also the son of his father figure. With Eiji there was actually no reason. On the other hand, Chitose was a good example. She deceived him but she was forced to do it and actively she tried to repair, so the forgiveness toward here was totally understandable
@@PalloneWafer"there was no actual reason" which is the point. Ichi didn't need one. He didn't even end Bryce or let him end himself, he saves him and let's the justice system sort itself out, naive, but that's what Ichiban is, he literally says himself that it'll leave a bad taste in their mouth if he let him do it and people have to fish him out of that once sacred island because of Bryce's selfishness. Eiji needed no actual reason, if they made him regret it all before the ending like Chitose that ruins the point. Its literally why they show Eiji crying once he sees Ichi protect him from a crowd, THAT is that start of him realizing he's done wrong and this guy still saves him despite all that causing him to tear up, because Ichiban believed he was a good person deep down even if he himself denied that.
Sometime it takes a dumbass to make someone admit their mistake and try to redeem themself for the better, that's one of the vocal point of the whole game, both for Kiryu and Ichiban story

It could be a joke, but I mean it lol.

Ichi doesnt want to leave anyone behind, being there for people saves them from becoming hateful and wasting their lives.
ichiban really is a good protagonist
Ichibans character reminds alot of the saying the richest people are the ones who have the most kindness/Compassion.I guess in the regard ichiban truly has "Infinite Wealth"
*That regard
Loved one of the lessons they teach you in this game...
Second chances.
We fuck up and make stupid mistakes. People aren't born in this world evil but were put in circumstances that forces them down the wrong path. Ichiban and Kiryu see these people and doesn't hesitate to lend a hand. At the end of the day, we're only human. If only there were more people like them in the world...
I feel like KIryu finally knows that he also deserves a second chance in life as well...I hope his treatments go well and we see him having the time of his life with his family since he finally regained his name :)
Say what you want, but Ichiban got Eiji crying, apologising and begging for him to stop with sheer kindness alone was great
An important point even I admit I missed on my first viewing.
This scene moved me....
Ichiban Kasuga... you have moved me....
The literal translation for this song is "Infinite Wealth"
If I had to guess. We might see him like as a wise man who doesn't fight.

@@tricksterhuaunyeah, hell prob just be chilling with his family over the next game
I just watched this storyline until the end right after the Easter Day.
This game's storyline teaches all about forgiveness and second chances, it helps me understand more that no matter how many times we as humans repeated same sins in life, God is still forgiving us all.
Ichiban is way too pure for this world man 😭
After the whole game, although Ichiban is the protagonist, I felt that he was a little overshadowed by Kiryu, although it is implied that Kiryu is no longer as strong due to cancer, to which Ichiban puts the weight of the team on his shoulders, everything.

Maybe the infinite wealth was the friends we made along the way.
Certainly was
Ichiban is precious
The way Ichiban smiled that split second while getting beat up hits different.
Ichiban can't save Masato at that time, so this time he did his best not to make the same mistake with Eiji. Damn, Ichiban is too kind.

This scene would've been even more impactful if Eiji earned his redemption imo. Maybe some more bonding with him and Kasuga or have him be slightly less evil during the nightclub scene
I agree but i also was secretly hoping for a redemption the whole time just cuz i love him as a character and i love his VA
He would've been irredeemable had he actually tried to blow up Lani

@@beatsbyadmiralz5915 I get that. I still am not 100% sold on how they executed his character arc.

Ichiban's face when Eiji turned away kind of shows this too.

I'm sorry, but I don't think Eiji deserved a slither of a second chance.

Gamers when they have to have compassion and a sense of forgiveness
