  • The Original Xbox has a small library of titles that contain hidden and unlockable games. In most instances you need to complete the main game to in order to play the unlockable game.
    In this video with a modded xbox, and a copy of a custom dashboard, like Unleash X, i show games that i have that contain unlockable or hidden games and how to play them without needing to unlock them in the main game.

    Dead or alive ultimate comes on 2 disks , one for DOA2 the other DOA1, what they dont tell you is that the disks are identical and they just renamed the XBE between the two disks, you only need one of them to play both games on a moded xbox XD

      yes thank you! how did i forget about this one

      It made it look like you were getting more for your money than you really were. Not to say DOAU wasn't a great game, it's one of my favourites in the series. On the upside, it did let you play online with a friend with one copy of the game. If they were using the DOA1 disc and you invited them to a game of 2U it would launch 2U from the DOA1 disc. So there was that, at least.

    • @firstsurname9893
      @firstsurname9893 6 лет назад +31

      While it's true that both discs contain both games and you can launch either game from either disc using the method described in the video, they actually aren't identical. The two game XBEs (not default.xbe which is just a loader) are completely different. At the time some people split the two games to separate directories/discs and deleted the DOA2 game data from the DOA1 parent directory thereby bringing it's installed size down to about 250MB. This rather neat trick saved nearly 4GB of HDD space.

      HPZeta I noticed that when I ripped both to the hard drive and thought it was funny they made it 2 discs. They could have saved a lot of discs by just making a selectable menu in the game I guess XD

    Note: I am aware of Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Terminator 3 containing unlockable games too but they cant be played with this method as they are embedded inside main game rather than a seperate executable.

      If you paid for shipping both ways I would do it free, but you would need to send a hard drive (preferably IDE but you can get SATA adapters) and if you wanted an 80 pin IDE cable, I would do a soft mod and install the hard drive for you and from there you would have the menu and off you go :) (FTP over games and emulation is pretty easy.) I guess I would take a look at the clock capacitor as well (they go bad and removing them is a good idea, and they cause no problems being removed unless it's a 1.6 version Xbox.)
      Or just buy the USB adapter from Amazon for like 7 bucks and a copy of Splinter Cell for like 8 bucks and do the soft mod yourself. The hard drive upgrade is pretty easy you can find really good video's on how to do it on youtube. This is the cheapest option since shipping an Xbox is expensive. removing the capacitor is pretty easy too, again lots of youtube video's on it.
      You can do a lot of stuff with just the built in 8-10GB hard drive but if you have like a 200GB or larger IDE drive laying around, things get really fun. Look for a "Ninja Massive" and "Ninja Massive pack" so much emulation goodness.
      Edit: I only recently got an Xbox. so a lot of this stuff is new to me but it was so much easier than say installing a mod chip in a PS2... Even easier than installing a Wiikey in a Wii. Love the Xbox's build... very PC like inside. :)

      OGXbox.com and the OGXBOX Facebook group will walk you through doing it on your own. you should be able to do it for a total of like $40 for an xbox with a controller and a mod job.

    There's also Ninja Gaiden (Original) and Ninja Gaiden Black. Ninja Gaiden (Original) has three unlockable games, they are the NES Ninja Gaiden games. Ninja Gaiden Black has only one unlockable game, and it's the arcade version of the game. And Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Remake on PS3) removed these unlockables.

    • @firstsurname9893
      @firstsurname9893 6 лет назад +18

      I just checked my Ninja Gaiden Black disc and it contains both the US and Japanese versions of the arcade game, named NinjaTrilogy.xbe for Ninja Gaiden and NinjaTomoe.xbe for Ninja Ryukenden respectively. Thanks for the tip.

    • @Frolsa84
      @Frolsa84 6 лет назад +9

      Actually, they're SNES versions, which are inferior and were supposedly not optimized for the SNES. They play much slower (as a result, they're less difficult), music is different and some of the tracks were cut, parallax scrolling was removed and so on. Also, the trilogy can't be launched with .xbe, they have to be unlocked by beating the game.

    So crazy!! Right when you said “the earliest hidden game I remember was the original Pitfall on the PC Pitfall” I was saying and answering the same thing in my mind. I was so blown away with this and thought it to be the coolest thing.
    Another one I remember was being able to play Maniac Mansion on the computer in the game for PC “Day of the Tentacle”. Which btw has been ported to iOS for 5$. When I bought it was so happy to play it again but I also went immediately to the computer in Ed’s room to see if Maniac Mansion was still able to be played and sure enough it was. $5 for two incredible games is well worth it.

    Project Gotham Racing 2 (for the Original Xbox) contained the game: Geometry Wars and could be played via the in-game garage. Also, I'm not sure if it would count in this case, but Jade Empire had a playable demo of Conker: Live & Reloaded (as well as another game that escapes me) that was playable via the main menu.

    I'm pretty sure that the sound issues in the TMNT games come from the fact Konami probably had the rights to the characters & the prior games they made based on them, but they didn't have rights to the famous theme song used in the cartoon show. Many level themes use variations on that melody, so it was just easier to replace the music.

    My favorite hidden game was not on the xbox, but the sega saturn. It was called Death Tanks. It was on the Duke Nukem 3d version of the saturn and there were two ways to unlock it. One way was to destroy every toilet in the game as you beat it. The other way was You had to also own Quake on the Saturn and have a saved game on the saturn's hardrive from each game, Duke Nukem and Quake. Then the game would be unlocked. Death Tanks was a 7 player game that was like Scorched Earth or Worms but instead of taking turns to shoot each other, it was an all out shoot fest! They remade on Xbox live back in 2007 with updated graphics.

    I am a huge fan of playing Saturn and Dreamcast ported games on the Xbox because of the similar control scheme and to many of us Dreamcast fans, it is a spiritual successor and our Dreamcast 2.
    That being said, I know there is a Midway Hits compilation out there with great games like San Francisco Rush 2049, 4X4 Thunder, Hydro Thunder and more.
    I think somebody in the comments below mentioned the Saturn ports of Dead or Alive 1 as well. But also Crazy Taxi 3 kind of also has the first 2 Dreamcast games available inside of it as well.
    I had no idea about HOTDII being on HOTDIII, sure it was an arcade port but the Dreamcast was an Arcade based machine.

    I had an original Xbox with the Xecuter3 modchip installed. It was 3 years before I decided to install a custom dashboard. Wow, was I hooked. I installed the EvolutionX dashboard that came packed with numerous other programs. A region free DVD player, a disc ripper and the ability to use game trainers, plus a few others. I had every game for the original Xbox ever released in the USA. I think it totaled close to 840 games. I wound up giving it to my son due to getting a modded XBox360. Now I don't own a console at all.

      There is one noticeable con, given that it's the same game from the Midway Arcade Treasures 2 compilation, it has the problem which maps the Start button as the pause button as well, which makes Random Select, and the ability to fight Smoke (by pressing start at the Portal Stage after you do an uppercut that reveals Dan Forden shouting Toasty) very impossible.

      and for Turtles in Time, it noticeably recycles music from the first TMNT2K3 game (i.e. Skull and Crossbones uses the Street theme)

    You can also get games like Panzer Dragoon original to boot without the CD too. However you need to copy the whole Panzer Dragoon Orta game to your Xbox HDD into a new folder (preferably within the 'Games' or Homebrew' folder on your F drive). Open up that folder once the files have been copied, rename the default.xbe to something else (doesn't matter what). And then rename the 'PD1.xbe' to 'default.xbe', the game can then be launched automatically without the need for the disc or using file manager. Neat trick but be aware that it does take up a fair amount of disc space but if you've got a large HDD installed then it's something to consider.

    I know this is a 2 year old video but it just appeared in my recomendations and I have to say two things about the turtles in time port.
    1- Konami didn't own the rights for the music anymore
    2- It's a port from the original arcade so it's not missing what level. What happens is that in the Snes port of Turtles in Time they added one level.

    It may not be a unlock-able game, but there was an unlock-able movie in "Destroy All Humans!". It was some 60s era movie about some human looking aliens that wanted to colonize Earth or something.

    The Doom 3 Collector’s Edition for Xbox contains Ultimate Doom and Doom 2. The ports are a bit janky and not sure if they are easily copied to hard drive, but they exist and are pretty playable.

    • @zachreddy
      @zachreddy 6 лет назад +1

      TheScreaminGoat they also have split screen local multiplayer, which is always nice! It’s always in quarter screen sections, though, so if you don’t have 4 people, part of the screen is just black. Like I said: janky. They’re also on the standalone Resurrection of Evil release, along with the Master Levels for Doom 2.

  • @nevadaxelizabeth
    @nevadaxelizabeth 6 лет назад

    Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil, yeah that strange standalone expansion have Doom and Doom 2 as portsm, they are not hidden or unlockeable however, they are just on the extras section of the main menu. but if i recall, they are separate executables

    Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is also available in Project Gotham Racing 3 this way, but Bizzarre Creations had the foresight to also make it an Xbox LIVE Arcade title.

    I picked up TMNT2: Battle Nexus and TMNT3: Mutant Nightmare specifically for the unlockables, thinking I'd finally have arcade perfect ports of 2 of my favorite arcade games of all time on a console with 4 controllers at the ready. I was crushed to discover the changes made. It had something to do with licensing, I read. Bummer, dude.

    • @figment1988
      @figment1988 5 лет назад

      this is true. For some reason Konami wasn't able to acquire the music rights to the original soundtrack, not to mention the original voice works which is a shame because in TMNT 1989, there's very notable clips of James Avery (a.k.a. Uncle Phil) as Shredder.

    I only have ever returned one game in my entire life and that was the TMNT 3 Mutant Nightmare game. I purchased and slogged through the first section of that game purely for the unlock of the arcade version of Turtles in Time, but the bastardized version they had of it in there filled me with the purest of disgust that I didn't even want to own it anymore. I hear that the Battle Nexus unlock of TMNT Arcade is even more fucked up.
    Not really an unlockable, but if you have the start-up disc for the Xbox Live Arcade, it has Ms. Pac-Man on it ready to play.
