Unless he takes Klay's starting spot I think that's a bit of a reach lol, not enough minutes and not a big enough name yet. Not saying that's how these awards SHOULD work necessarily, but it's the reality.

@@Jewbacabra he’s considered among the best defenders on the team this season, regardless of if he iss starting or coming off the bench. Grimes is very good on ball defense because he has good active hands, great footwork, and ability to navigate screens, making him a strong perimeter defender who excels at guarding opposing ball handlers. The guy can even defend All Star players like Tatum, SGA, Trae, Booker, Butler, Halliburton and Foxx. I don’t know what ur on he only let one guy score on him and the Mavs still won the game. Grimes was playing good defense the whole game other than that

The craziest fact is Dallas best point of attack defender from last season is still out. Exum was so good last season he almost always got a steal or deflection when defending opposing guards who bring the ball. And Exum also a 3&D guy who can get to the basket in a flash. Last season when in rotation he could bring ball in a hurry and make a fast pace game.

this year's mavs team is so dynamic, naji being a forward could also act as a point guard due to his playmaking skills. grimes is that physical and strong he can switch to play defense on forward like kat and still playing stellar defense at him. klay on the other hand, if he becomes more consistent and more fit within the dallas system, will make the defense having more lose-lose situation whenever he plays with kyrie and luka on the floor. the combo-punch center duo in gafford and lively could really mess up opponents offense due to their paint presence and if anything goes wrong there's still dwight powell.
well yes, mavs are still lacking on their pf rotation but if they can trade for the right guy, this year mavs team would be unstoppable in the playoffs

I don't get those that say Klay should be benched and make Grimes the starter since he is playing well. I mean Klay is someone who can be easily affected by his emotions and benching him will hurt more than making him a starter and pairing him with guys like Luka and Lively who feeds him the ball and set screens for him plus they also have great halfcourt basketball style with slower pace. And if they want Klay to be at his best and contribute specially come playoffs they have to boost his morale by making more plays for him and letting him play a bit during garbage time to let him get on the groove because if they get Klay at his best come playoff time they will be hard to beat. And it doesn't matter whether he is a starter since what really matters is their minutes in which they can allocate more to grimes just like how Lively and Gafford have almost the same minutes to give them fresh start every game and less strain on their body and it will just depend on who is hot that will close the game.

    • @Smido83

Thats the point... you CAN NOT take everything away! Are you playing the Luka/Lively or Luka/Gafford P&R 1on1 to defend Kyrie/Klay/Grimes/Marshall a.s.o. on the perimeter? You can not gameplan for everything. With 2 elite scorers and playmakers like Luka/Kyrie on the court, someone will be open. Either the roll man, or the shooters. And dont forget that Grimes/Marshall/Thompson can do things that former Dallas wings couldnt. They are able to put the ball on the floor and attack closeouts effectively.
Specially Grimes has shown for years that he can shoot. He is a career 37.5% 3P shooter on a high volume (7.5 3's per 36). He actually takes the least 3's of his career this year (6.3 per 36, last seasons allways over 8) Marshall is more of a connector and 2ndary playmaker then a pure shooter. I give you that. But he is very effective inside 10 ft, as well as passing out of the paint. And Klay is Klay... yes, right now he isnt that effective. But thats basically true for his entire career. He allways shoots worse in the 1st half of the season, while picking it up in January. And we do not need 20 PPG from him anyways. If he gives us 4/9 3's and 5/11 from the field overall in the PO, thats more then enough.
Dallas is extremely deep and compared to other teams have a really good saraly structure. Means they are very flexible for the next view years, while being a legit contender already. They are legit 12 guys deep for the reg season if everyone is healthy and can play a 10 man rotation if neded in the PO, while still being fairly under the 2nd Tax apron. Not that many contender who can say that... Ask the Nuggets why they had to let KCP go, or why the Wolves traded KAT...

just trade Klay, Kleber and 2025 First for Kyle Kuzma
put Naji in the starting lineup, then have Dinwiddie, Grimes, Kuzma, and Gafford, off the bench

@@tshukhrelowetsah481 we need his talent lol, im confident adding Kuzma to the mix will definitely give us a better shot against the Celtics coz Celtics is still the team to beat
      Luka, Kai, Naji, PJ, DLive
      Dinwiddie, Hardy, Grimes, Kuzma, Gafford
so much talent on that lineup, if everyone is clicking, Celtics has no answer for this
