The vast majority of champions in the NBA were the best teams all year long with superstars playing their best. That’s why Phil Jackson would sometimes sit back and say “figure it out” because those Lakers rosters were so talented and intelligent he didn’t always need to harp on every little detail. Telling Shaq to be himself was more impactful than giving him a specific play by play. And Shaq believe that Wagner’s play has more to do with his own talent and drive to be great than Mosley being an incredible coach. And I lean toward Shaq, coaching helps a lot but at the end of the day the perfect game plan doesn’t matter if your players don’t have talent or work ethic

and he was not winning rings even if he barbequed chicken his defenders most of the time because it's a TEAM game, and he failed to elevate those good Lakers teammates until PHIL ARRIVED, Kobe matured(in age and skills) and his OVERALL game matured.
What Shaq doesn't realize is that he didn't need the hands-on attention, but some of his teammates did. Phil installed an offense that elevated that group. What were the results of the seasons where Shaq was there before Phil? What were the results of the Del Harris season? Also, maybe if he listened to some coaching, his free throw form would have improved.
