ME262 Vs A20B & P47D (IL-2: Battle of Bodenplatte)

- So here's my first proper combat vid flying the ME262 fighter jet in IL-2 and its against the P47D and A20B. I was basically able to hit at least one A20 with the R4M rockets, and the 4 MK108 30 mm autokanones are next level devastating. I found it was possible to make several high speed passes, sustaining superficial damage and taking out quite a few heavies. The plane has no issues. Only issue was with the existing maps - theres few runways long enough for a max takeoff weight takeoff. I got off the ground this time with like 30 % flap, and 100% power and only just got airborne. I reckon the actual Bodenplatte map will have some proper long runways on it.

Amazing as always.
What a pretty girl.
This game has taken over every moment of my available PC gaming time. From the perspective of a player who only plays the campaign missions and AI dogfights with the simplified flight management settings, it is still hugely immersive and entertaining. I bought the Bodenplatte extension months ago and didn't realize until yesterday that the content had dropped and was playable. After savoring in the ability to (finally) take off, fly semi-competently, and land the ME109 and FW 190, I seem to be stalling and crashing the ME262 almost immediately. Clearly player error but it is a blast anyways to play. I have never loved a game so much that I absolutely sucked and playing, even with 100+ hours of game time on Steam.
Obviously not cheap, but if you can grab a CR headset. Its a completely different experience when you feel like you are in the cockpit.

@@bobbyricigliano2799 I have an HTC vive, but I plan on replacing it with an Index soon. The pixels in the first generation headsets are not quite dense enough to have an easy time telling what a plane is at a distance. If you want to play multiplayer, you should buy a high pixel density model. However, for single player any headsets (oculus, Vive or newer) will work. I can manage pretty without plane identification on even with the low pixels. It does a decent job simulating the fact most pilots wouldn't be as good as players today at identifying enemy planes at a distance.
With no doubt the mk 108 or" pneumatic hammer" was the best autokanone that ever was in airplanes! Still I wondering how that pilot survived in Red tailes from 30mm HE shells;;!!!!!

No there were quite a few of them, designated for taking out bombers, but Hitler repurposed them as bombers!
That didn't delay it by much. Just widespread lie. There were bigger problems that had to be solved before they could put it into use

Hey, man, how'd you get that many of Havocs in a mission? I can only get two flights of 4 in a skirmish... Also, did you find a good point of aim for the rockets? I managed to adapt to the quirky MK 108 ballistics, but the rockets are giving me a headache, the hit ratio I get with them is abysmal.
Custom mission (I made). Rockets - I had practiced plenty before with FW190, and with other rocket than R4M, the BR21, but yeh its tough, best bet is close range use it like a cannon.

Yes Red Tails and Pearl harbor are very horrid haha. On the other side of the coin, Some movies I do actually like: My two favorites that come to mind are: Memphis Belle and Hell's Angels. Particularly the latter - Howard Hughes was hardcore.

I really want to get this expansion but dont really know how to enjoy this game. I love flying but would also like some sort of structure. The expansion doesnt come with any campaign, correct? Does it at least come with more quick missions or do you have to design everything yourself?
When it’s released as a finished product (it’s in early access now) it will have a career mode where you can choose what squadron you fly with, with dozens or even hundreds of missions between your chosen start date and the end of operations on the map in early 1945. A third-party career mode (with some official support) called PWCG is also currently available. There will also be scripted campaigns available, both free ones from the community and paid ones from the developers.
Is there a HE-162 planned?

Most if not all props have better acceleration, throttle response and maneuverability than the 262
IRL, engine durability/reliability.
Being the nerdy aviation historical fan that you know me to be, did the A-20 and 262 ever come face to face, or tail to nose? Great video in any case, as usual!
Cheers, I'm basically emulating a B17G formation, but I dont have any B17G lol. 262 probably came across A20, but I think they live at different altitudes mostly.
@@FroggyFrog9000 A-20's were attack aircraft, so yes they live at different altitudes.. Usually attack aircraft are low level.
My father was in the R A F in WW2 I remember him telling me about the German aircraft he got to examine when they captured Luftwaffe bases just think guys actually touching a 262 or an Fw190 I wish I could go back in time, Anybody built a time machine? ?
Haha :) Air museums are your best bet for seeing the actual aircraft IRL up close.
Yea Museums are the right choice. Already touched a bf109, bf110, me-262, he-162, ju52,... All Originals from the past

Where was the P47s or Mustang's waiting for this guy when he was on approach to the airfield I bet many of them met their end that way?
indeed, that was when the 262 where most vulnerable. Specially painted Fw190s(to distinguish them from enemy aircraft for friendly flak units) with little fuel and bloody young pilots were sent up to cover their approach.

Less then you'd think. If you tally up JG7s losses for March 1945 (About 33-40 machines), possibly as high as 1/3rd of those losses were from defensive fire from US bombers as the ME262s had to attack from the rear where most of the bomber's guns were aiming. US fighters also shot down a fair number of them when bouncing them from higher altitude while the ME262s made attacks on the US bombers. Well under half of JG7s losses were from getting shot up taking off or landing.
@@0304051324 Only JV44 had this setup, probably due to Gallands pull. Most of the other ME262 units (JG7, KG54 etc) had to rely on flak for safety when landing, which was a hit or miss approach.
@@colinkelly5420 Kommando Novotny had a whole Staffel from III./JG54 of brand new FW D9s.IIRC little is actually known whether it was a succes or not.
A20 formations are definitely turkey shoots :) Not much in defensive fire coming out of them. B25 will be a better choice once its out for AI bomber formations.
You can pick Peshkas and ramp up the gunner AI if you feel like a challenge. :D
Although the 262 is too fast for even them. If you don't turn and bleed all your speed, you can attack them almost with impunity. The only time I got knocked out was when I got too complacent, bled my speed for the next approach and gave the top 12.7 enough trigger time to heavily injure the pilot and set the craft on fire.
