My opinion is that the Horten 229 V3 is the coolest plane ever built. I wrote a letter to the Smithsonian back in the early 90’s asking when they were going to restore the plane. They said within ten years. Since that time they have robbed the instruments from the cockpit!
Excellent animation and reproduction of what would be seen in the cockpit, really incredible that the Germans had what was in effect a primitive b2 flying so long ago, it just looks absolutely right, just had to wait six decades for materials technology to catch up with its advanced design.
This is such an awesome plane and an awesome flight simulator. The graphics and sound are much better than in SWOTL, in which I could fly the Ho 229 (back then called Go 229). The smoke at 1:36 looks like a Me 163 Komet were starting, the smooth takeoff at 1:50, the phenomenal climbing rate, the beautifuul sunlight scene at 4:52. And the powerful jet sound at 3:22 reminds me of the landing scene in "Prometheus" movie.
A formation of Horten 229's is what Kenneth Arnold saw flying over the cascade mountains in 1947 to which he coined the phrase flying saucers and the rest is history !
+Robert Starkings No 229 ever flew and the program never got passed the V1 thru V6. Only the smaller V1 and V2 prototypes flew in Germany. Arnold must have seen something else.
***** I actually was reading about the flying wings, and Jack Northrop, the founder of the company which created the B2, also created a flying wing that was stable. The stability problems arose when he tried upscaling his N-1 fighter sized flying wing to the bomber sized YB-35. I guess aerodynamics are funny like that.
Using a high speed (and presumably high altitude) fighter aircraft against low-medium altitude fighter and medium bomber aircraft is a waste of scarce resources. Get up after the city- and factory-destroying high altitude heavy bombers!
@@R3dp055um The speed is not displayed in the bottom left corner, but in the bottom right corner of the cockpit. Initially it is quite low due to the acceleration and climbing phase, but look at the seconds after 5:50 and 8:50 in fullscreen mode. The yellow needle climbs to 800 km/h (about 500 mph) and more.
@@Otokichi786 See my other response (speed reaches 800 km/h after about 6 minutes and 9 minutes). The Germans certainly not would have installed two Jumo 004 jet engines into the Horten IX glider, just to reach only 600 km/h (400 mph) like a piston-engined fighter. Remember they did install the same two Jumo 004 engines in the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter, which reached 870 km/h in level flight. Even the Arado Ar 234 jet bomber reached about 700-800 km/h (depending on bomb load or reconnaissance equipment) using two Jumo 004 jet engines.

Thats not all they have robbed. 😉
Minong Maniac the design ?
@@Minong_Manitou_Mishepeshu Yes, they also have the only surviving original Dornier Do 335 and Arado Ar 234 in the Smithsonian.
MY 1ST FLIGHT IN THE HORTON 229......WHAT A TREAT !👍
I've heard that the Smithsonian is currently in the process of restoring the third prototype of the Ho-229

I love WW2 German products. 50 years ahead of anyone else.
Minong Maniac I don’t like the nazis but I love the people who designed the cool stuff like the scientist and all of that
Jack Northrop did the flying wing before the Germans did...

@BekGrou PRIMUS N-1 flying wing.
@BekGrou PRIMUS To be overly technical I would not consider a glider a plane.

The Horten looks like it would be fun to fly, I might have to check that game out next year
Plane: German
Engine: Jet
Guns: 4x MK-108
Speed: 900kph
Fuel: *Sake*
Love the sound(s)
What a phantastic airplane - except the weapon state!
Warum; 2 x 20 mm. und 2 x 30 mm. Maschinenkanonen!
One of my fav aircraft ever
Its awesome, could I know that the possibilities to takeoff from that landscape?

He seen the American reverse engineered version. Today they are the TRB-3. Diffrent power system, same basic design.
Shoot...... Or is this a cinematic test flight?
great video =)
What map is this? looks interesting, and would make a nice edition to my collection

Does anyone know where i can download the smoke trails that become visible at 1:34
www.mediafire.com/file/xu3d3vd023g3xya/Gurner+FX+for+HSFX7.rar
Just installed them but i saw no smoke. Do i put them in to my IL-2 directory or in to my WAW3 folder?
WAW
Do i put in the file that sais effects or the one inside that sais files?
DROP THE FOLDER IN YOUR WAW FOLDER
I am fascinated by these designs, too!
Many of these prototype designs can be found here: www.luft46.com
Nice
I want one!
How does it Yaw without a vertical surface?
differential thrust, maybe
There are two flaps on the top part of the wings that act as a rudder. I think the B-2 spirit uses something similar

no mod a plane go-229

Wenn die Horten wirklich noch zum Einsatz gekommen wäre hätten die Deutschen doch noch den Atombomben Abwurf erlebt.

No, this plane is in the game when you buy it
is this a mod?
+Reuben king No, just cockpit, wheels, effects
Steven 197106 SERIOUSLY!! 😀 how about the me 262 and 163!?

If you watch the bottom left corner of the screen, it's not fast at all. It never reaches 400 MPH.
So much for the "1000 Km/hour" fighter/bomber aircraft. Although 977 Km/Hour at 12,000 meters is the top estimate:
