    Glad you passed the rubicon and hit 1k subs. I shared for the entirety of my 11 years in London Town - you’ve made the right call. Even though I lived in Fulham for most of my years there, spent a lot of time north, West Hampstead is a great spot. I’m going to take a wild guess and say one of the apartments you viewed with the ‘shouty’ people was Camden Town or Kentish Town and the one that was in a really good area but far from the tube was Muswell Hill.

      Thanks Adrian! Those are actually some good guesses. The first flat was in Hornsey! Feel like most tube stations in London attract interesting characters 😂

    @5:40, I’m glad you understand the difference between National Rail and the Overground. 😊
    Many non-London natives don’t.

    Pre-pay cards for electricity are actually pretty common in England! It's most prevalent in low income households and council properties/tenants. Also a good fit for people with poor credit.

    • @beingbett
      @beingbett  8 месяцев назад

      I hadn’t considered this actually. I was thinking it was a fault in the energy supply system as a whole.

    • @mirimariana
      @mirimariana 3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, they tend to come out cheaper than a bill in my experience.
      My electric is about £80 for 4 people, a month.

    Made me laugh when you spoke about the electricity keys. I was a lodger in this woman's flat for about 2 months who kept forgetting to put money on the key. Almost every other day, the money would run out and I would be sitting in the dark with no internet - I moved into my own 1 bed flat after that had a regular meter thankfully. Now I am no longer renting thank god.

      They can be managed well if they have a smart meter. You can check your balance online and top up online so you don’t need to use a key.

      that first studio was fab, and it def looks like it was kitted out for an airbnb rental, it was in a different league to the other places, which just goes to show what some nice light and decorating can do

    A mini fridge isn’t standard for London. Perhaps, it is the standard for rental apartments, but not in your average family or shared home.

    • @shanghaichica
      @shanghaichica 7 месяцев назад

      I just depends on your space. I have a tall fridge freezer and an American style fridge freezer. People get whatever they can fit into the space they have. Being a family of 4 I could not manage with one of those small fridges but for a single person it would probably be ok.

    You get a £10 emergency credit in those keys do you will never just run out of energy. That would last at least 2 days giving enough time to top up the energy

  • @LizzieBeezie
    @LizzieBeezie 6 месяцев назад +1

    Pre-paid cards for electricity are usually a big no no from experience. These people tend to make you foot the previous tenants bill or theirs. Careful with those even when going through an Agency, they'll try to find a way to make you pay for it. Had so many times my friends or even i, we've topped up our card for about £100 and it's gone in less than a month even with us being out most of the time. Took us a while to fight and win our money back.

    • @mrl7141
      @mrl7141 6 месяцев назад

      That makes no sense what you say. That’s the whole point of pre pay that there will never be debt or outstanding monies owed.

    • @LizzieBeezie
      @LizzieBeezie 6 месяцев назад

      @@mrl7141 I used to think like that until my friends and i, we experienced it. Usually the top up meters allow people to go in "debt" and use it until they pay the amount owed. I don't know about the newer ones but those we've had the inconvenience of seeing our money gone, were like this. Worst part was that we didn't know anything about those back then since we all thought it was safer until too late.

  • @evaantoniia
    @evaantoniia 9 месяцев назад +2

    This was really interesting 😊 and the power can just go on you when you don't top it up? That's crazy 😧 I live in Germany and yes electricity can be cut for you If you don't pay your bills I think but the electricity company would send you an reminder to pay your bill first before they cut your power. At least that's how I think it works here, never had that happen and don't know anyone who had either.

    • @shanghaichica

      Yes the power goes off if you don’t top it up. They give you emergency credit so you can get your power back on until you have time to top it up

    Rent in London is a joke as wages as not raised in years so your basically 😮 here on the planet to work yourself to dead paying bills 1400 should be 1 to 2 bedroom anything over 2000 should be a house in north London who wants to sleep in a kitchen thats what government allowing these greedy dumb landlords where that sofa was a table and chair to eat should be there as realistic Uk don't think like that
