I remember speaking to Nick Briggs who said that as a boy he found Genesis of the Daleks boring because of the lack of Daleks in the story, he said his all time favourite was Evil of the Daleks. Whilst I love Genesis of the Daleks, it was so refreshing to talk to someone who didn't think it was the best Dalek story of all time
Intercity 43 hardly ever hear mention of Evil of the Daleks, course I attribute that to most of it being missing.

I 'm not a massive fan of the parting of the ways cause after all the buildup the daleks are defeated in an instant by plot device rose.
I prefer the classic dalek stories of the 60's and 80's
At least there was a consequence (nines regeneration) to rose using the power of "the bad wolf"
It wasn't really "plot device rose" since it had been building up throughout the series
Into the Dalek is brilliant and I don't understand why it isn't talked about more. I'm with you where I feel it's primarily an exploration of the Doctor's character, the fact that he's a very detached character now who doesn't necessarily care who dies as long as he gets the job done. There's some really dark stuff in this episode too, plus I liked that the Doctor lost. We don't get to see that much, and doing it so early in a doctor's run was bold but worked well.
I rather like it, and the doctors are all a little confused after a regeneration, and you have to remember how 11 regenerated! Got a new cycle, blew up a dalek fleet, heal his body young again and almost instant change. I think Clara forgot this in her attitude (but then it hacks me off anyway) so having the doctor wonder if he's good after committing mass murder (again) is not that surprising!!!!

The thing that stops Parting of the Ways from being a 10/10 is those scenes on earth with Rose which’s re just really distracting I find. It’s when series 2 Rose began I feel.

1) Genesis of the Daleks. (My favourite part is Davros, the actor, whose name currently escapes me, gives such a chilling performance that's over the top enough to be memorable, but not too much as to make him comical or embarrassing. Davros has never been topped, in my opinion, and I don't think they should've even brought him back. My favourite scene is: "The Virus." Where the Doctor, in an attempt to have Davros see reason, compares the Daleks to a virus, that could wipe out all living things, and the megalomaniac actually believes it glorious, making him a god in his view. If the Daleks are the Nazis, then Davros is Hitler. It's telling that the man who'd bring them into being is twisted and deteriorated, he creates them, and can't see through his hubris that he has signed his death warrant. 10/10)

Not really. Most people think Season 8 is pretty decent. I'm personally not a fan but still. And Into the Dalek was one of the most liked stories in that Season.

Worst dalek story? Well I haven’t seen all of them yet, still got a few classic ones to see, but I’m not a fan of Into the dalek.
That is, curiously, a very good list, you I never stopped to think how great ressurection and into the dalek was, very great man.
I wish The Daleks' Master Plan was not missing. It would have been the best Dalek story
Resurrection without the duplicates bit would be amazing. Everything would make sense and have justified reasoning. Daleks fighting to rescue Davros, Davros saving his “errant child” Daleks from the Movellan virus and his caution needing to prolong the stay at the space station. The hopeless position of the remaining crew trying to destroy the prisoner. The Doctor being accidentally drawn into the time corridor is reasonable and the cliffhanger could be much better than the shock revelation of Stein’s betrayal/redemption. The duplicate bit is unconvincing, woolly, poorly realised, over the top, unnecessary and badly inserted, as if the Daleks didn’t have enough to do in the story already.
My top 5:
5) Resurrection (higher without the duplicate part)
4) Revelation (very interesting and well written, would be better with modulated grey Dalek voices, the white ones are basically humanoid)
3) Dalek (One Dalek can last a whole episode when the plot needs it, millions of Daleks are killed Deus Ex Machina)
2) Genesis Of The Daleks (just don’t like some of the acting, Gharman and Ronson particularly)
1) Remembrance (just great, from Chunky Gilmore and co to unlimited rice pudding a great classic story which demonstrates to New Who the excellence of cliffhangers: levitating Dalek, Ace against the odds and (a real) shuttle landing. The extermination effect in part 1 was so expensive it could only be done the once now it’s done whenever it’s needed. New Who has the budget, Classic Who had the staging, the writing and the imagination. New Who will never have kids cowering behind the sofa, Classic Who did it almost every week.

Haha. I was watching Resurrection of The Daleks when I got the notification. Probably in my top 3 dalek stories.
Resurection is my favourite. Feels like there is two stories in that episode, the Supreme trying to collapse Earth way of life while also trying to find a cure for a damaging virus destroying them.

Resurrection is my favourite Dalek story
I'm old enough to have seen all the Dalek stories when they were originally transmitted including the lost stories, and I think you really need to have seen the lost stories to make a true judgment.
My top 5 would be:
1). The Daleks (1963): the original Dalek story. I was 8 years old and it was terrifying. Doctor Who was new, it was gritty, it had edge, there were no jokes, no banter, the companions showed real fear, and that Dalek City set in the eery misty valley next to the creepy forest and the swamp of monsters gave me nightmares for years to come.
2). Tne Dalek Masterplan (1965-6). Only 3 episodes exist but this was an epic 13 parter, and the Daleks were not portrayed as often later as figures of fun. They were ruthless killing machines and the story was fast paced with a terrifying ending-and you have to see that last episode to know what I mean.
3). Evil of the Daleks (1967 One of Patrick Troughton's best, and the shock of meeting the Dalek Emperor on Skaro.
4). Genesis of the Daleks. (1975) The creation of Davros was a mark of genius and although this origin story contradicted the Daleks origins as explained in the original 1963 story ( and the Dalek Terry Nation strip in TV Comic), it was a brilliant acted and excellent story.
5). Dalek (2005). The only story from the new series but they got everything absolutely right -a truly on edge scary episode and Ecclestone perfectly portrayed the Doctor's hatred of the daleks after the Time War.
6). Resurrection of the Daleks (1981). One of Eric Seward's gritty stories from the 80s.

I'm the kind of person who likes any Dalek story that's written good...
in terms of NuWho my fave stories are
1. The Stolen Earth/Journey's End
2. Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks
3. Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways (a fantastic way for Eccleston to bow out)
4. Doomsday (shouldn't class Army of Ghosts cause they only came in on the last seconds of the episode in an "Earthshock" style ending.)
5. Victory of the Daleks (what's not to love about beefed up Daleks in a Cushing homage and Daleks aiding the UK in WWII, it's like inviting a Nazi round for tea!)
In terms of classics... I'd go with.
1. Remembrance (need I say more)
2. Resurrection (I'm a sucker for the death count that holds a fat middle finger to the Terminator films to this day)
3. Genesis (Intro of the iconic Davros)
4. The Chase (a little lighter but I do like it for the madcap chase through time and it's worth a buy if you're a Beatle fan to see the only surviving clip of them on Top of the Pops and you're a fan of both Doctor Who and "The Boys" as they were known among their peers.)
5. The Dalek Master Plan (the Daleks at their most evil on their own. Granted it's a missing episode but the plan to destroy time itself is pretty badass for 1965 Sci-Fi)
I think Honourable mentions would include Revelation, Planet and Destiny...
Resurrection is so unappreciated.
I'm very late to this video. Resurrection is great as is, but would have been even better if it was shown as it was originally intended. What became Resurrection was supposed to be the season 20 finale The Return but was cancelled due to a worker's strike. Ever wonder why Kamelion is introduced in The King's Demons and then vanishes? He was supposed to be a tool of the Daleks (as they were hinted as being the invaders of Xeraphas) and betray the doctor in the next serial. The character Stein replaced him in the finished version. The original intent was to have the Dalek Emperor there instead of The Supreme Dalek as well and a bigger focus on them intending on invading Gallifrey (making Gallifrey a bookend since it appeared in Arc of Infinity). Oh well. I still love it and I think the voices of the Daleks are their best.
‘Jubilee’ is one of the all time greatest Dalek stories and it’s an audio drama.

"Hipster" my arse, this is a fantastic list. Something else about "Resurrection", Tegan's heartbreaking departure. This is one of his longest-serving companions, and she has no choice but to force herself to quit due to trauma of travelling with the Doctor. A great take on the violent nature of his adventures that we don't usually get to see.
I feel like I can't make comprehensive list because I've never seen "Masterplan" and "Evil," and I need to re-watch "Revelation," but these are the ones I feel the need to mention. If "Revelation" is as fun as I recall, it probably slot into the middle of this list.

I think Genesis is really overrated, and because of that, my expectations were greater than the story itself.
I feel sort of the same way with Resurrection.
@@lasercatsproductions I just tend to like stories that are underrated and have no major feelings towards a lot that are considered to be the best. It's nothing to do with purposefully trying to be edgy or unique, they are genuine feelings. I don't see the appeal for Genesis, or the Caves of Androzani, I can't for the life of me work out why people adore Kerblam! I'd sooner watch "bad" episodes like Paradise Towers, The Tsuranga Conundrum, Timelash, even The Twin Dilemma.
@@LaytonMathieson I get that and I do that sometimes too. I hate Kerblam! but love Timelash. What I meant was that Resurrection was sort of overhyped for me but I still love it nonetheless. :)
@@lasercatsproductions I think the trouble with overhyping is that it makes the episode seem worse than it is because you've gone into it expecting something amazing, and while it may still be good, it isn't the masterpiece people make it out to be. I do DW reviews on my channel (starting off from the beginning and progressing in order) so if you want to know more about my thoughts on certain episodes, feel free to check them out. I also want to move away from doing just DW content because I don't want to come to a point later down the line where I become one of those people who have done one thing for so long that their audience hates anything new.

4) Remembrance of the Daleks (don't like it in many ways, very dark, but it is very good)
5) Resurrection of the Daleks (Daleks don't need no legs + links to the past)
HM) Death to the Daleks (it's fun! "Well, well, well. Daleks without the power to kill! How does it feel")

1) Dalek (with CGI and more than 5 bob, shows why they are a terrifying enemy)

I don't hate Into the Dalek. I don't get the hate it does get either. I don't like it as much as you do but it had some good moments.
My top 5 are all classics:
5) Day of the Daleks
4) Resurrection of the Daleks
3) Revelation of the Daleks
2) Remembrance of the Daleks
1) Genesis of the Daleks
Dalek would be 6, Dalek Invasion of Earth 7, and the Daleks 8. I know Day of the Daleks has some issues, especially the awful original Dalek voices (they are much better with the optional DVD voices) but I really love the temporal paradox and the way they give the rebels and the Controller depth beyond 'rebels good-controller bad'.
