- Sure is nice when all goes to plan and today that's the case. Out and about with the Eastonmade Ultra and my mini excavator making dust and firewood on today's episode. Something satisfying about watching pieces of a tree split into pieces with seemingly no effort on the part of the wood splitter. Toss in there the 4 way splitting wedge and the job unfortunately gets over in a hurry. Unless of course you've got a bunch of other chores to do and in that case, you'll be happy that the 4 way wedge takes care of the firewood twice as fast as a normal 2 way wedge. Check out the operation of the Eastonmade Ultra if you're new to the wood splitter as you'll be as amazed as I was the first time I operated it. Guess that's the reason I enjoy splitting firewood so much. Glad you're all here for the tour! Here we go!

Oh yea, part of my morning regime; sludge, sausage & Sandy on the equipment! Thank You! 👍
Great to hear that Greg!
Love seeing what Al Borlands been up too since Home Improvement. Jokes Aside, love the videos and just in general seeing what you've been tinkering on. Thanks Sandy
“I don’t think so Tim”
Hahah great to have ya along Harrison
Wow !! What could be better Sawing with Sandy and a cup of sludge😊😊
Hi Sydney! Hope the sludge is good this morning
2 cups of sludge☕ and a 🍩, and watching Mr. Sandy do all the work.
Quite the system Sandy. That splitter goes thru anything.
Sure gets the job done Gene
Hi Sandy - enjoy your channel! Happy to see how well your new slitter works. I am a.healthy 76 year old and still may not live long enough to see you split that much wood with your old splitter! :-) 🙂 Regards Dennis
hahaha that old splitter sure would take me some time to get through the firewood pile
That Eastonmade Ultra is really good at splitting gnarly wood. The wood split with quite a lot of complaining but split they do. Hearing the split is very satisfying to hear and watch. Thanks for another day out and about in the 100 acres Woods.
The sounds sure get me thinking the logs are angry at me haha
Gnarly is an understatement! I save most of my straight logs for the sawmill, so I get a lot of knots in my firewood, too. Takes a little longer, and I can't really use my axes much, but I don't feel the guilt I used to when I was cutting and splitting ten-foot perfectly straight oak logs! There is no chance of me ever running out of firewood at this rate. I do like that oversized table on your splitter. I may have to make a homemade version for mine. Even with steel toed boots those oak chunks can make your eyes water! It's raining here today, too. That's why I'm indoors watching RUclips. It's supposed to clear up later today, so I just may go out and grade my driveway. Lots less dust after the rain! Well, thanks for sharing. See you in your next video!
Yeah sure wish I had some straight grained stuff here for once. I got a load of firewood dropped off and it looked like it was the leftovers from a processor. Nice to get the driveway taken care of I bet before summer hits
Rance here. When it’s cold, then is when you are most thankful for the equipment you have! Looks like you’re going to need a blade sharpening on that chainsaw
Hi Rance! You're right about that one. My saw was getting a bit dull here. I've been holding onto this chain for a bit too long as well with the teeth getting pretty thin
Hi, I picked up my altar the other day. I like it. I need a table to put wood on after I half it. That’s were the vertical splitter is nice. I sharpened my single wedge up and it works great .
Gord Potter from GP outdoors would be proud,he uses one all the time. Have a good day Sandy
Hi Brian, I've seen him use his. Seems like it works quite well. Thanks for coming along for the video Brian
I see that you have enough energy to split 2 bins of wood now that it only takes 1 pull to start the splitter lol great job as always have a great day
hahah back in the day with the old splitter I"d be lucky to even get to split wood as I'd be so tired from trying just to start it
Lota Stihls out there on RUclips, nice to see a Husky! I had a 266 Husky with a 28 inch bar and cut a lot of wood with it until the power company started a forest fire and I lost everything I ever had for the last 40 years including my house and garage and trucks! Now I get my cutting and splitting fix from you and others on RUclips. Thanks for another great video, I still have more of your videos to watch. Dave
Afternoon Sandy! Always good to see you trying out new stuff. Sunny and cool today, 15C. Anything above 0C is shorts weather for me. Greetings from Peterborough.
Hey neighbour! Chilly one coming tonight for sure. Hopefully reminds those black flies to hurry up and go away hah
Looks like you’re getting ready for winter ❄️ heating ☕️❤😊
Although I like splitting wood it sure reminds me of the 4' of snow I had not too many months ago haha
The Mingo is the perfect tool for your setup! One tip, make sure to spray the can upright for a few seconds until no more paint comes out to clear the nozzle before putting it away!
Great tip there Earl! Thanks for that one
@@sawingwithsandy You got it bro...ask me how I know? 😁 That upside down paint is expensive!
Hey everybody. I´m the lucky (?) owner of a small oven in my house, and a big boiler model crematorium for my central heating. The big boiler can take firewood 1 meter long, and is heating a 1.200 l accumulation tank, and from there in to the house. When splitting the wood, I use a hydraulic wood splitter. The splitter (mounted in the lift of the tractor), has a lift, so you don´t have to lift the wood up to the splitter. The wedge is mounted on the cylinder. It means that if you have to make another split to a big log, you don´ t have to carry the wood back, but you simply turn it for the next split.
That is a pretty neat little log marker, but it looks like you could use an old rake or shovel handle in the end to keep from having to bend over as much.
I like that idea there Wallace. Would make it bit easier on the back for sure
slick set-up. I did see that the blocks were slipping on the pusher. Small spikes would eliminate that issue and make it safer.
Yeah what was happening in this case was I didn't cut the logs square unfortunately due to my dull chain and so the angle was throwing me off.
Just something I recently found out, and I’m not sure your saw experience but it looked like your saw was cutting down to one side.. I had the same issue and sharpened the chain perfectly, but later discovered my bar was uneven. I had to grind the one side of the rail down and now it cuts arrow straight . Thought I’d share, great video again !
Yeah it was certainly in need of a tune up. Thanks for sharing this Josh
That spray marker seems to work alright, but I think it could benefit from a longer upright handle though. That bending over to use it would get old. Quick. Good vid. Thanks.
That's a good point Joe
Sandy will come up with an improvement to it...heck, even zip tying a small stick will help not having to bend over while trying to walk around the log pile.
Was thinking screw a 3’ length of dowel or lightweight aluminum broom stick into the handle.. Obviously its a plastic handle, but I’m thinking couple large washers and a thin bolt… Sandy will engineer a back saver for his new log marker… no doubt! 👍 Great video as always and thanks for the info and the tips!!
Hi Sandy. Enjoying your videos. I noticed you’re tending to curve your chainsaw cuts which is why it’s binding so often. You’re better off to cut to get the dogs in, then just leaver the handle up to get a nice consistent straight cut with less work. Just a suggestion.
Hi Sandy. Nice video. Your hydraulic splitter has a very fast cycle time. My kinetic splitter has the power, and may cycle a bit faster, though it sometimes needs a second (or third) whack at the gnarly rounds. Yours does great.
I do like those kinetic splitters. I 've always wanted to try one. Seems like a great tool
How's the sludge this morning Sandy?
Real thick haha
Good luck w that.make sure the wheel doesn't turn on you before you start ea.time.paint can't freeze.can may fall out pretty eazy too.
Seemed to work quite well. Looking forward to using it long term and letting everyone know what I Think. Thanks for coming along for the video today
should cut your bins on one side down to the splitter hight at end then slid wood or push off with new piece in to bin no lifting again👍👍
That would certainly work well. I think I may dig a little pit to keep them down low to try as well
I use a 16 inch piece of wood and dollar store chalk.(kids sidewalk chalk) it is fast and cheap.
Question Sandy, if you're Husky went ts up what model saw would you buy? New or used. Thanks for the video.
I was torn between the 555 and 562 when buying the 555 and I think I’d still buy the saw I have as it’s very reliable and pretty close to same specs as 562 and a bit cheaper
Do you have any videos of the maple syrup set up?
Sandy do you have a video on putting a slightly larger blade on the woodland HM126?
Hi Chris, great question. I haven't run any blades other than the 1 1/4" width blades on my sawmill
Hi Sandy. Since you do not sell any firewood, you should be set up when it comes time to retire the splitter. Do you take firewood to the "little old lady" that is not able to split the wood but depends on wood to heat her home during the winter? I have heard it many times, but this time you did not say to give the video the "ol' like-a-roo". As it was, I was number 806. Have good days!
your bar is causing to flop to one side or the other causing the chain to turn in the wood. you may already know.and on the new bar it will have what chain fits it. I though all chain saw's were the same
Good eye on that one Rodney. You're absolutely right. Time for some new bar/chain I"m thinking.
Hi Sandy, does the mingo marker take into account the kerf so that you end up with exactly 16 inch pieces?
👍👍👍💙💛❤SANDY TE SALUT CU DRAG . 💙💛❤👍👍👍🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Try to hang your picker on splitting table after each time you brought a wood piece for splitting. Less moves more productivity.
Great tip there Tomas! Thank you
so we seen you with a dull chain on your saw. what i didn't see is something to brew fresh mud in while playing with the toys.
Hey Fred. I decided for the amount of effort it is easier that I make the sludge inside my home and transport it to wherever I"m working
@@sawingwithsandy so you make a quick run back home every other milled log or split wood.?
@Fred Anderson. I end up bring out a good size Thermos to keep the sludge warm. Usually in the warmer months I don't drink quite as much as the colder ones
@@sawingwithsandy i go through about 2ish gallons a day.
You might need some kind of long handle for the log marker set up
Save your lower back from bending over all the time
Also is this value to money IE cost of replacing paint how many logs could you mark per can of paint ?
Thoughts ?
Also will you build any kind of rough shelter for the IBC totes ?
All great considerations Paul. Long term I’ll have to see how much marking I can get with the new marker per can of paint. I may start splitting wood u see a shelter but likely keep the wood outside to dry
I think you need a new chain.
I think you're right. This thing is just about done
nice job but why dont you bring the logs closer to the splitter before you buck them? might save a little stain on your back.
I ended up skidding the logs out before the wood splitter and turns out the spot that I thought was level, wasn't so had to move the splitter over a bit. I should've just used the mini ex though to move the logs haha
I would have cut the logs a little closer to he splitter. just sayen lol
hahah as I was dragging the rounds towards the splitter I was thinking the exact same thing
I prefer the other system you used... just a gimmick to me, but if your convinced then that is what matters
Hi Morgan! Hope all is well with you
@@sawingwithsandy I am still trying hard to make it Sandy... very tough times for this old man
Hang in there Morgan! One day at a time as I like to say
Maple syrup? Do you have videos?
Sheesh. Might as well use a hand saw.
Get outside and enjoy nature... you mean, go to the Holiday Inn and open the windows?!?! Sandy, how many cinderblocks did you cut up with your chainsaw, before you cut those trees into firewood logs?? Hahhaahahahahaha............. My little, electric 14" chainsaw wouldn't stand a chance against your Husky. 'Tossing the logs versus neatly stacking them in the totes: That's a never-ending argument with my nephew. I've said: "IF you were selling firewood...." In your case, son, who cares if you fill 15 or 40 totes with the logs thrown into them. When one is empty, you haul it away with the skid-steer and bring another one up... end-of-story. We got a 3-man operation going once. I was picking up the trees with the excavator, his buddy was cutting them to length, and my nephew was splitting them. We filled about a dozen totes in two hours........... Funny, at the same moment you said it's starting to rain, I heard a horrendous BOOM outside from a T-storm brewing.
haha yeah sometimes the ole saw gets neglected at times when the splitter is calling my name. Hope all is well with you Carl! Happy Spring!
That sprY system does not impress me Sandy. Too awkward.
Hi Frank! Thanks for coming along for the splitting today!
👍 what can I say? You are doing what I'm doing. Although I handle the wood a little more than you do. 🤏
You know the feeling of a good days work splitting wood !
