That was not the temperature sensor. That was the overtemp thermostat cutout that opens if the gun gets too hot.
I haven't found a heat gun that actually senses the temperature and controls the heater. This one does not either! It only controls the relative power delivered to the heater at a constant rate, no matter how hot the air is.

Hi pomonbill220, thanks for the feedback... makes sense. Triac in conjunction with the Pot controlling power to the element... with thermostat for overtemp protection.

Yes, mine only goes to 50c too. Somethings stuffed eh?

I've got the digital heat control one. It's stuck at 50deg which is its first temp setting, it's no longer getting to the temp I set it too it stays at 50 now and it is actually 50 so the element is at least managing that heat. Any idea what would cause this?

Hi, I don't have any experience with the digital model but i'm guessing its very similar inside... or at least the way the temperature is sensed. Going on your description of the problem, possibly the thermal pickup which senses the air temperature is faulty and thus not allowing the circuit to let the element heat up?
I suppose it could also be a faulty element with a broken wire... so when its cold, the broken element wire makes contact and the element is thus able to start heating up... but after heating a small amount, the break in the wire expands and looses contact which results in the element cooling again... never getting hotter than 50 degrees. Just a guess.

@@GrantBurton yeah I'm going to have to investigate further as it's a few year old but only had a few uses. Left it sitting aimed at a boat hull for a good 40mins then it never heated up beyond 50 again.

@@bigduphusaj162 Let us know if you manage to find out what the problem is. I'm guessing its going to be a damaged heating element.
