- Tie Domi and Sandy McCarthy take turns mocking each other during the 1999 playoff series between the Leafs and Flyer.
Before the puck drop, Sandy McCarthy appears to challenge Domi and Domi responds by shaking his knees. After a few seconds of play, Domi refuses McCarthy's challenge again and McCarthy responds by flapping his arms like a chicken.
Clip also features the late Roger Neilson and Pat Quinn behind the bench.

When McCarthy played for Calgary he came to the agency I worked at to play a floor hockey game with the kids and staff. At the time it was an addictions treatment centre for youth. Very nice guy. All the kids days were made.

Just for the record, here is how the Domi-McCarthy fights went:
ROUND ONE in 93-94: a good back and forth battle, each got some big punches in; McCarthy caught Tie with a good one to the eye and left him with a black eye for a bit. Narrow win for MCarthy for landing better.
ROUND TWO in 93-94: not really a fight; McCarthy did a "fake glove drop" and turtled as Domi hit him with a few.
ROUND THREE in 93-94: this was all McCarthy; he peppered Domi with a lot of good lefts until Tie had enough and tackled him.
ROUND FOUR in 94-95: Domi lands a bit more than McCarthy to get a slight win
ROUND FIVE: in 94-95: all Domi as he lands quite a few uppercuts and straight punches until the linesmen stop it.
ROUND SIX: in 94-95; mostly wrestling, a draw.
ROUND SEVEN: in 96-97; the "Texas Death Match" fight; each got in a huge bomb; a draw.
ROUND EIGHT: in 97-98; wrestling match, as Domi had a broken pinky finger from a couple rough fights with Rob Ray and Matt Johnson the week before; a draw.
ROUND NINE: in 2001-02; virtually no action; a draw.
So, the record is 2 wins for Domi, 2 wins for McCarthy, and 4 draws and 1 non-eventer.

Domi was the best! Like him or hate him, he was fun to watch.

I never really liked either of these two guys but if you lived in this era wasn't stuff like this entertaining compared to boring current NHL.What was great about the goon days was it gave all the cities players to hat and boo on the other team and made all the games more exciting because you never knew what could happen any given game.Maybe a bunch of fights,maybe a cheap shot, maybe a riot or just hard checking nasty game.
Absolutely. Players really disliked each other and rivalries were intense. NOW, if you see a face-wash in a scrum, the announcers are going crazy and screaming, "Wow..it's getting rough! Nasty hockey is back in town!" It's a joke. The last great playoff series was the one between the Leafs and Islanders so many years back - Cairns, Corson, Tucker, etc.

Yes it is. But now most of these guys are disabled. Someone died, someone is suing the NHL, someone is just sitting on pills. But in general - yes, it was a wonderful era.

The game where McCarthy claimed that Domi threw a racial insult at him in front of the Flyers bench. Domi was furious at the allegation, said he lost all respect for McCarthy and said he would never fight him again. Not one Flyer on the bench said they heard the alleged remark.

Domi always found a way to be behind either an official or a teammate when he was afraid of a player from the other team. Probably his only talent.

The worst part was after the game when McCarthy to the press and said Domi dropped the N-bomb on him which did not happened. Domi then vowed that he would never fight him again. Until that game in Boston when it turned out to be a dud
Domi if used right could have scored 15 to 20 goals a year he had speed decent hands .

After Domi 1st fight with Detroit's Bob Probert ( which he won) he proclaimed himself the Champ. After that every time he fought Probert, Probert used him as a punching bag.

In Domi’s fifteen year career, his teams made the playoffs eleven times. His teams made the “final four” three times and the second round three times. He appeared in 98 playoff games, totaling 7 goals and 12 assists.
In McCarthy’s ten year career, his team made the playoffs four times and had a first round exit each time. He appeared in 23 games and totaled two assists.
So, no, McCarthy didn’t reach the same heights as Domi, who played much longer, produced more, had more team success, and made way more money than McCarthy.

Domi has fought many tough guys, way tougher then Stevens, not sure if Stevens would of put him in hospital. Yes Domi is garbage, but Stevens wasn't an angel, in fact he is just as much of a POS as Domi was. .

Nope, Domi was never afraid of McCarthy. I witnessed their first fight when I worked at the Saddledome in Calgary, and Domi went toe to toe with Calgary's biggest badass.
