He’s well spoken, calm and wearing a sweater. Marty: “I’ve got my doctorate. I majored in hockey” Random person intrigued: “Any other specific studies?” Marty: “Enforcement”
Passion. That word sums up hockey. It is what makes me be a life long hockey player. i started at 6 and I am 37 now. So 31 years of passion for a game. You can hear it in Marty's voice. You don't see (or better yet, feel it) when you listen to players from other sports. With other sports, you get the impression that they are simply having fun playing a game. But hockey is more than that. I have always gotten a kick out of hearing people talk about how grueling a football season is. Sure, it is rough. But it is 16 games, at its highest level. Once a week. Their hits come from another player that is running at them from 2 feet away and they fall on grass. They should try landing on ice after being checked by a player skating at them from 20 meters away,..skating at 80kmph and doing that 5 nights a week...for an 82 game season plus playoffs that can be as long as up to 28 extra games. That is 110 games if you count regular season plus 4, 7 games series that go to a 7th game. Add in a bunch of preseason games that they may or may not suit up for...and you will recognize that without a doubt, hockey players take the most punishment of any athletes in the 'Big 4' professional sports in North America.
Maki / Green stickfight in which Green's head was literally broken and according to an on-ice witness, "stuff" came out of Ted Green's head, was. unfortunately, a worse incident.

Basically, you're a loser. I would bet you've never played hockey above shinny level, bum.
I know I can't believe how many people have no clue that mcsorley was not merely an enforcer, but a decent defenceman and a far better all around hockey player than that douchebag donald Brashear, who was nothing but an enforcer .the fucking g guy could barely skate and as far as scoring g what's he got 16 goals for his entire carreer
Remember that alot of nhl players have done something very dirty on the ice. The great eddie shore fractured ace bailey's skull and ended his career with a dirty hit from behind. Wayne maki also fractured ted green's skull in a stick fight in the early 70's.
The Donald Brashear incident was regrettable. Marty did what he had to do in every game. He did his job, every team and expects that. I want that from my team.
McSorley's attitude was that he was 100% OK with punching a guy who was already laying on the ice, and as hard as he could. That can kill a man. The stick to Brashear's head could have killed him. What I judge is that the NHL is damned lucky McSorley's poor judgement and his rationalizations didn't kill somebody. McSorley was pretty full of his role and he decided whatever punishments he wanted to dole out were just fine regardless of risk. He himself described his "best" fights as when he was calm. He knew what he was doing. So I do not accept a suggestion that it was out of the ordinary or even that things maybe got a bit out of hand or were accidental. At least with a guy like a Kordic or a Probert you can point to drugs. The Brashear slash to the head *is* the defining moment of McSorley's career. It didn't have to be, but he made his bed. Now he lies in it.

They BOTH made their reputations as Oilers, first, winning multiple Stanley Cups.
🇨🇦
Mcsorely was one bad ass dude
A scary player willing to cross the line and did so😳
But okay he was a strong puncher.
HE was the man!
6:40 so calm like a serial killer lol great dude
Amazing interview!
Mcsorley was a beast him and probert were awesome made hockey exciting for sure .our superstar captains today need a mcsorley.
Use fuckin commas and periods
Marty was my horse. I loved him as a King.
The Ducks can use a guy like Marty. Miss you Marty 🥰
5:26 is awesome just calm and whatever launching a guy headfirst into a steel open door lol McSorley rules
Марти, мы тебя любим!
Wow A true psycho and I wish every team had a Mcsorley now. Awesome
5:35 that cold serial killer mentality that The Great One knew he could depend on.
McSorly could not exist nowadays. Illegal to assault fellow workers to that extent.
Great interview.
His respect for Dave Semenko really shows.
Lol 80kmph 🤡
Best head slasher ever.
Maki / Green stickfight in which Green's head was literally broken and according to an on-ice witness, "stuff" came out of Ted Green's head, was. unfortunately, a worse incident.
Okay, junior...you REALLY know your stuff. Ever actually played the game, can you ice skate...didn't think so.
Back to mommy's basement.
@@loilt5091 lol 6 years late... probably like your mental capacities. I'm old enough to remember him being found guilty of assault with a weapon.
@@mikeFolco
Sure, junior…it was a 1 shot incident.
My life hardly evolves around social media like most of today’s kiddies. Your widget/icon tell's us exactly what kind of an immature delinquent you are.
🥊Not gonna deal with your juvenile bias & educate you on how hockey actually works. Had a season ticket during our Dynasty Era, was at the game on May 19, ’84, when we dethroned that great, Islanders team.
🤜 Can't imagine what sad team you back 🙊
Again, go back to mommy's basement...

@@loilt5091 You probably still talk about the Gretzky trade on the brink of tears while your grand kids roll their eyes.
My favorite player next to Wayne Gretzky. Tough as nails, true competitor and actually became a decent player. Even led the league one year in +/-. True warrior.
+Rockhead Smith Comments like yours are hard to read, both because of how offensive they are, and how stupid they are.
The instant a player assaults another in such a manner, I lose ever ounce of respect I ever had for said player. You're like those women who send fan mail to serial killers.
Absolutely right. Brashear himself doled out alot of cheap shots. He had it coming...
didn't know marty was so serious
One tough hombre
Tough guy!
"Marty McSorley : Being a bitch and being OK with it"
That's what I would have named that video.
themostawesomepig That was funny as shit, and also very true!
Ron S. Cheers
Clark vs Mcsorley was a good tilt
His fighting endurance was second to none
I suggest you watch the 1993 Probert-McSorley fight. Probert won the war of attrition.
@@1969spooge I’ve seen it. Unreal.
The Donald Brashear incident was regrettable. Marty did what he had to do in every game. He did his job, every team and expects that. I want that from my team.
The stick to the head to brashear was fucking awesome, that was my favorite
Ya he sure clubbed eme. Lol
If people wanna judge Marty, they should take a look at his whole career and not just at the unfortunate incident with Brashear that ended his career.

Take the initial statement outta context to make your own, distorted case...real intellect.
Missing the BIG picture, cuz you either don't like him or GET pro hockey⁉️
@@loilt5091 What BIG picture? What distorted case? McPoorly did not do those things? Yep he did. Tough shit for him, deal with it Mary. Your hero is a shit human being and only a shit human would defend his actions and rationalize the BIG picture. What a creep! Maybe you can get a date with him.
sounds like confessions of a seriel killer
Fascinating interview
I saw him at the 1984 team reunion at Rexall Place - he was outside as not part of the '84 team, but a class act all the way
Loved the way he looked after 99 and followed him as an Oiler and when he followed Gretzky to the Kings
Did some bad things, but he's always been alright to me
Also in a Kathleen Edwards video too ... the guy is a legend
Two players I followed from the 80's were Marty McSorley and Ken Baumgartner. When they were together on the kings in 1988 I was like dam I like these guys
