    Very good and detailed review. I just bought this set after 45 years away from the hobby. Could not decide on DC or DCC but finally opted for the future and DCC. The set arrived yesterday still in its box but looking forward to setting it up and running the two locos in the very near future. Looks like a very nice set.

    Glad you liked it. I am hoping to begin work on the proper layout soon and will be doing videos from the start - planning through to completion. DCC is really easy to use and adds so much to the operation of the layout.

    Hornby OO scale trains are great! Bachmann Branchline, too!
    I like that mustard-coloured Private Owner truck.

    Lovely set mate with 2 locos! Hornby do a lot of good sets to start you off. Great vid.🚂😀📹

    Genuine thanks for this, its a great video. I had an early DCC 10 years ago, all Lenz and Bachmann sold up and regretted it. I realize these are not the same as class 37's and 25's from Bachmann but im going to buy after this vid.
    Cheers Al

    8:46 Interesting seeing that comparison... I had that old Hornby 08 shunter as a kid, it riled me then that it didn't have the external wheel frames like the real thing! Passed hands long ago, I plan to get one in N gauge.

    Nice video,, Look forward to seeing your layout develop ,,, I wish my N gauge loco would run that nicely at slow speed ,,,nice controller explanation,,, many thanks

    @BR75069 - Not sure. Might go for one in old BR blue or the sector railfreight. I love my Bachmann 47 and was so impressed I will probably get a Bachmann.

    Nice review. I have this set myself, and it was interesting to hear your thoughts on it.

    Really enjoyed this review, I always wanted a train set as a kid but alas Santa never brought me one, but watching your vid has got me very interested, even though I'm now nearly sixty! The DCC seems much simpler to operate and I really do fancy a small end to end shelf type layout. Keep your reviews coming, have subbed.

    Cut a sponge to size, paint the top of them for coal, flat black, or for gravel, tan, and you'll have a load to fill the empty open wagons. Lightweight and easy to insert or remove, and not very expensive.

    • @geezenstacks
      @geezenstacks  9 лет назад +1

      Thanks for that - i'll give that a go.

      @SeaToby11 9 лет назад +1

      If this doesn't do the job good enough, glue some hobby coal to the top of the sponge. It will probably look better than what you can buy.

    Useful review, and well presented. This told me a lot. The slow running speed is pretty good. Certainly better slow running than a cheap Bachmann set I've seen.
    You seem to get what you pay for with DCC decoders but this is pretty darn good for entry level. I was impressed.

      Thanks for your comments. These little engines run ok but they are not to good across insulfrog points due to limited pick-ups and short wheel-base.

  • @geezenstacks
    @geezenstacks  13 лет назад

    @BR75069 - it runs ok on DC but its kind of 'digital' as its stop or go with no fine control between static and full speed. I am hoping to get a new 37. The 900 DC controller is great for running in the new locos.

    @geezenstacks well my opinion the best livery for a class 37 is the railfreight grey with a red stripe at the bottom. Basicly the same livery as your class 31 by hornby

    These locos do not have the standard nmra couplings - take a look at 2.42 in the video. The couplings are bolted on but it should be possible to attach different ones.

    It’s a j83 not a jinty although the old version of this train set the Mixed Goods had an 08 and jinty

    • @geezenstacks
      @geezenstacks  5 лет назад +1

      you are indeed correct - just had a look at images of both and also confirmed by engine number. Thank you!

  • @geezenstacks
    @geezenstacks  13 лет назад

    @Crazy99Dave - this set comes with the basic Oval and extension pack A. The layout you see in the video includes extension packs B, C & D, plus a few other odd pieces of track.

    I am newbie to this railroading as a hobby. In India, we get Hornby OO scale products easily than the other companies. My question
    1) which is the number that I need to look for if I want to purchase another train such as from Bachmann or peko to run on the same track as that of Hornby mixed freight.
    2) Is the EZ track system from bachmann compatible with this mixed freight train set and vice-versa ?

    • @geezenstacks
      @geezenstacks  10 лет назад +1

      The track gauge is OO. There is another which is called HO and is fully compatible with OO, more prominent in the US and Europe. EZ track is HO and so fully compatible with Hornby OO and Peco.

    • @geezenstacks

      Sadly no, the track that comes with the set is the loop with a single siding shown on the box.
