Dax Shepard Didn't Want to Go Public with His Relapse

- A few months ago, Dax Shepard revealed he had relapsed following 16 years of sobriety. He told Ellen he initially didn't want to go public with it at all, but shared what his friend said that made him change his mind. The actor also explained why he has to keep some common household items locked away in a bathroom safe, and showed off an impressive medal wife Kristen Bell gave him in recognition of his toned physique.

As someone that's in recovery myself, I can say that that level of honesty and transparency is pretty much everything. So proud of him.
Coming from someone who struggles with substance abuse no matter what substance we all have problems with abusing I admire your strength and your truth and I admire your wife and your loyalty towards each other
I can’t imagine how difficult it is for recovering opioid addicts needing to have surgery and severe pain and trying to cope with pain without medication. Or taking the medication and relapsing! 🙏🏻
Yeah! My thought too. I thought Dax did the right, honest and helpful thing by sharing his relapse. Can you imagine the blowback if he kept presenting himself as consistently sober and it came out that he had a relapse didn’t tell his followers? In being open he not only helps people but maintains his integrity.

Dax ... you do help whether you are married to Bell or a millionaire or not. You inspire me to be a better version of myself and you allow me to laugh at myself more often then I ever did in full on addiction.

vulnerable and honest with yourself, let alone while millions are watching, but you are setting the example for yourself kids to live an honest, clean lifestyle, so keep it up. 7.5 years sober...best thing I've ever done, but I have little addictions, dark chocolate chips lately...we all have demons. It’s amazing how much healthier he looks physically and I didn’t notice there was an issue. I remember thinking he didn’t look great when he was on Whitney’s podcast.

I went 172 day’s sober then relapsed then 6 weeks later I decided to get back on the clean and sober grind I’m almost 11 months clean and sober🙌🏽 if I ever relapse again I’m gonna get back on faster and stay longer then before

I’ve watched her at home shows during quarantine where there were no laughs and just awkward silence. I can say with certainty that a laugh track is much more preferred.

I've been going to SMART meetings to manage my sobriety. One of the analogies I find helpful is, if you've been riding a bike and you fall off, you don't have to throw the bike away and go buy a new one and start from day one relearning how to ride it. You pick it up and get back on.
