there is something so magical about "heart of town" probably my favourite set of consecutive chords in any barbershop ballad! now if they'd only come to Australia!
I've been listening to this song since I first started listening to bbs, and not once have I not gotten goosebumps. This is arguably the most beautiful bbs song, but only VS could pull it of with such perfection. =]
@Jennifer Vizzo - This was arranged by the great David Wright, who is from their home chapter Ambassadors of Harmony. It helped VS win the contest in 2006.
This is a very complex arrangement, and these guys (as I would expect) pull it off brilliantly. The emotion that they inject is something that an arrangement doesn't provide, so the group is as important as the arrangement.
please tell me you have the other 5 songs from the night they won gold in 2006, cause that would super epic if you could upload those songs and much appreciated;
@step1990 haha =P well to be fair, they sharped it by a semi-tone throughout the song. It seriously threw me off when I was trying to find the right key for the song
@wires5 Any good vocal coach should tell you *not* to sing "ooo" exactly as it is spoken; the sound is very closed and dull, so it doesn't project well at all. Instead, by making it sound a bit more like a French "u" or German 'ü' vowel it gains a lot of brightness (i.e. more overtones), and this is what you'll hear all sorts of top-class singers from across various musical genres doing - not just barbershop, and certainly not just Vocal Spectrum!
@wires5 Not sure where you are hearing "eewwww" instead of "ooooo". I've been a barbershopper for nearly 20 years and there isn't much about this quartet's sound that is irritating! Unless, or course, it's the irritation that are far more talented that I'll ever be!
Possibly my favorite barbershop ballad performance of all time.
I also love the crowds reaction. They starting "oohing" before they can even get their hands up to clap.
Vocal Spectrum forever, man.

This song compliments Eric's voice so incredibly well.
Absolutely perfect! 45 years in this hobby, never to hear a quartet this consistent.
Oh wow, that little bit of vibrato at the end.... be still my quivering heart. *swoons*
That is one awesome frickin baritone.

Geez, I just realized they were still collegiate champs when they sang this. So amazing.
the chord at 3:40 on 'care' is so beautiful. I cant take it
LOVE VOCAL SPECTRUM!

Can never have too much tenor!

I love the Swedish audience's reaction at the end. Reminds me of Japanese fans' reactions to MMA fights!
That post is Eric? DAMN! I thought it was Tim!
@LilKroog They are singing this a full step higher than the recorded/competition version.
Not really, they're in VS full time, but they joined up with Johann and Doug for the one of convention to sing some tunes.
holy cow, this is a full step sharp. How'd they sing it this well that high?

Woahhh.

@rarchnick what do you mean its a full step sharp?
where can i get this arrangement?
so tim and eric are in 2 groups?

@Lince7777777 Especially if it's Timmy.
Nice job...who did this arrangement?
David Wright most likely.
I love Tim but he is too overpowering in this one. Eric's soft post at the end is goosebumpy!
Eric Dalbey, ftfw.
I love the performance, but the poorly-tailored outfits for Tim and Blake are incredibly distracting.
Thats Jonny :P Blake is his brother
Oops. Haha. My apologies.
