This performance was breath-taking. The fact that it was near wasted on a group of kids who appear bored and unmoved almost adds to its majesty. These gentlemen have it down and then some. Ask them to do it again right after and it will sound exactly the same. It seems that practice does indeed make perfect or at least pretty damned close. Bravo.
Incredible! A simple video recording was used to capture a live performance that, in my opinion, couldn't be more vocally perfect. I've been watching this video for years and am always amazed at how well these 4 voices fit together in this piece.Thank you so much for presenting the video
Sent this to my daughter (she'd heard them do What Child is This and When I See an Elephant Fly), and she cried. :) Not just because of the content, which is sooo heart jerking, but the way these guys treat this arrangement. Wow is RIGHT!!! Wow.
I'm 11 years late but idc, that's Tim waurick and he is certainly not a countertenor... Although he has several octaves of range he is a comfortable bass, Bari, lead, tenor, and countertenor... Versatile!!
The words of this song show the undying love of a father for his daughter - even after death. Beautiful job guys! Especially like that movement at 3:50 where the lead ascends while the base descends, which brings the song powerfully to its conclusion.
I know this means nothing but watch this vid again and pay attention to the kid Roth above the singer with the red stripe shirt. This kid watched the crowd more then the singers and couldn't stop moving!! Lol
LOL! Pardon, milonguero008, I failed to communicate clearly. There was no intent to correct you ~ you are correct. I was suggesting that we grant mercy to juanito2686 and not expose him public embarrassment because of his errors in English, which may be due to second language issues. I appreciate your response! It brought me back here and I am now enjoying this beautiful piece of music a second time. Thank you!
I think Larry Graham said it best, "Ya know, you can take a drum machine and set it to 126bmp, and it's locked in ya know? But your heart doesn't beat like that."
I just 'discovered' my interest in barbershop and acapella music. I'm looking for this kind of music in the minor key and weird chord progressions, but not sure where to look.
There are chapters of the Barbershop Harmony Society in most cities. Go to www.barbershop.org and click "Find a Chorus" at the top of the page. We're everywhere! (You can also purchase sheet music and recordings there.)
I recommend that you check out Home Free here on RUclips for some more amazing acapella harmonies. It's not barbershop, but is it fantastic none the less.
If the quartet was facing the students, I'm sure the hoped-for attention, and the promise of a small epidemic of barbershop bug-bites, would have ensued.
Vocal Spectrum always has the best arrangements, voices and presentations but not this time! The Kings Singers presentation of this piece is far superior to Vocal Spectrum IMO. Listen for yourselves.
Some of the kids on the risers appear to have, uhh... special needs... and that includes at least two who look like they really need to get to the bathroom
I maintain that this is one of the best live recordings of a barbershop group on RUclips. So glad this recording exists...
Absolutely
1000% percent agree
6 years ago I was up there on those bleachers in the back. Absolutely amazing.
I agree!
Agreed. Doesn't hurt that its a recording of a national champion quartet in a favorable acoustical environment!
The boy near the back wearing the 3 button gray shirt. His attention and facial responses were PRICELESS!!!! Im sure we have a future barbershopper.
Yeah, he's all in at 2:02.
I believe this is one of the greatest barbershop performances ever recorded.

The chord on “cry” at 2:55 is absolutely bonkers... Well, this whole SONG is bonkers. This quartet is an absolute treasure to our activity.
The amount of individual skill in all 4 of the members in this quartet is so absurd. Wow. Just wow.
This is the closest to perfection you can get.
I'm on the lead's left shoulder, 16, and looking tired and bored but deeply listening and appreciating the ring...
Still one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard
That was totally insane. Doesn't it kill you how amazing they are?
love how they linger on the chords

I might be crazy, but this is the best version of this song on RUclips.
If only they had a mic so the sound quality was better
no way stfu!! i was at this harmony camp!! the tenor was sooo much louder in person and it was absolutely angelic.
Wow you are lucky to have seen them live
They are amazing......but this is such a personal song for the GHG I am sad that they chose to sing it. Love Vocal Spectrum
we are so blessed to have masters of this art like these men. True masters.
What a blend. Chills.
I don't care how many times I watch this vid.....Jonny, that bari resolution at the end gives me chills every time!

Simply beautiful!
Music with Vocal Spectrum HEART as the Beat....Well Done Gentlemen and Thank You for allowing us to glimpse into your Heart.
I am so impressed with the countertenor! So smooth and clear.
I'm 11 years late but idc, that's Tim waurick and he is certainly not a countertenor... Although he has several octaves of range he is a comfortable bass, Bari, lead, tenor, and countertenor... Versatile!!
Can't stop listening to this one...
4:14 to 4:30 is smooth as velvet amazing overtones these guys are the real deal!!!
The words of this song show the undying love of a father for his daughter - even after death. Beautiful job guys! Especially like that movement at 3:50 where the lead ascends while the base descends, which brings the song powerfully to its conclusion.
the chord at 4:03 "and I" is so epic too
Those kids better stand at attention. What they had in front of them is as good as it gets.
Why does this video do not have a million views?
The best of the best....still on top of their game.
Such an insane arrangement
Simply phenomenal
Absolutely amazing! I found myself transfixed about 15 seconds in. Molto Bravo!
Something special there. Wow
Just....beautiful .
4:15 - 4:30 is so beautiful I cried
The chord at 4:03 makes me tear up every time.
Just stunning!
Truly amazing
Awesome Gentlemen!!!!!!!

Amazing, Billy Joel would be super proud of that
Holy smokes that was great!!!
Perfect
Love The Ball Brothers music
Hope I get to sing with you guys again sometime
Eric is a crazy good lead!
I know this means nothing but watch this vid again and pay attention to the kid Roth above the singer with the red stripe shirt. This kid watched the crowd more then the singers and couldn't stop moving!! Lol

OH MY GOD!!!!
Until 2:08 the kid on the down right looks very much like you Rhett
Did drumguy127 just say that the rubato killed it for him. Since he's a drummer does he want expressionless even 8th notes???
Amazing performance.
I think Larry Graham said it best, "Ya know, you can take a drum machine and set it to 126bmp, and it's locked in ya know? But your heart doesn't beat like that."
Can you say pitch? Awesome!
I miss Gas House Gang, but VS is a pretty good second
Kirk Young
Perhaps the best recording of this chart ever made. I love it. The best recorded version, though, was done by THE GAS HOUSE GANG.
is this the arrangement by Kirby Shaw? Wonderful!
impact2000 yes :)
No. This is my arrangement. It is available through barbershop.org
@@kirkkster thanks a lot!
We did. :)
Mother of OVERTONES =O
Gorgeous where did you get this arrangement?
+Bradshytes You can buy it here: shop.barbershop.org/sheet-music/unpublished/lullabye-en/
Thank You!
Unbelievable

Anyone know where I can find this arrangement?
Hopefully you found it. If not, it’s arranged by Kirk Young. Can be found on barbershop.org
Thank you Brady !
who's the arrengement?
Ok, so correct me please -
shouldn't it be "WHOSE is the arrAngement?"?
;-)
how is it possible that the preteenies in the back are just indifferent?
If the quartet was facing the students, I'm sure the hoped-for attention, and the promise of a small epidemic of barbershop bug-bites, would have ensued.
As a monolingual white guy, I am sorry this is not pointed out enough
Yes, Bill, but it´s a grateful death...:)
Vocal Spectrum always has the best arrangements, voices and presentations but not this time! The Kings Singers presentation of this piece is far superior to Vocal Spectrum IMO. Listen for yourselves.
The poor guy is an "arrengement"? ;)
このレベルに達する日本人が現われる日は来るだろうか・・・
Back off unless you're multilingually proficient!
The poor baritone. Zoom in...left out.
I love this arrangement. I just wish there was a little less rubato from the group. It kinda kills it for me.
Some of the kids on the risers appear to have, uhh... special needs... and that includes at least two who look like they really need to get to the bathroom
