Deen is the ONLY one I don’t mind singing in place of Steve. His energy, love, and dedication of Journey’s music makes him a true heir to capturing their legacy.
this is an absolutely amazing performance..... cant understand why Journey dont throw this song in EVERY time...it was the best song on that album by a mile..... Deen smashed this out of the arena !!!
Neil T. Actually I loved the last song, Why Can't This Night Go On Forever... My wife and I closed out our wedding with that song... We're divorced now...😃 But we are STILL good friends and that song endures...
Raised on Radio is a great album. There are so many songs I wish they would play regularly from Raised on Radio, like Suzanne, Positive Touch, Happy to Give, Raised on Radio and WCTNGOF. Sadly they insist on playing the same songs every concert.
I agree with you, but it's probably because Deen is no longer in the band. Other than Perry in his prime, Deen is the only one who could pull this song off. Even Arnel would likely have a little difficulty singing this song now.
Neil T I agree. I have a feeling that with Randy back and additions of Narada and Jason Derklata - we can expect much more ROR mixed in. I could see Jason singing some of these like Deen.
Neal needs to do a Journey Through Time album. I want to hear Deen and Gregg sing together. Deen's range is almost as good as Steve Perry's and Gregg still sounds amazing.
As Keanu Reeves would say: "Whoah!" This is the first time I ever heard this song performed live since 1986. Deen did a phenomenal job singing and playing the drums at the same time. I wonder if they will perform this song again live now that Randy Jackson is back in the band.
Deen is unbelievable and blows my mind every time I hear him play the drums and sing those Journey songs flawlessly!! Wish I could Play and sing like that lol I’d never put my sticks down and never shut up!!! 👍🏻👍🏻

Of all the rock performances I've seen in my 65 years, and as a professional musician, I would say that this will always stand out as one of my top 10. This guy is not even from this world. Firstly, as I've played this song to others without them looking at the video, they all say that is Steve Perry at his finest. Suzanne is one of the hardest songs that Journey has ever performed. Secondly, this Beast is playing the drums at the same time. I mean come on... Deen, God bless you.
Perry's voice is a slightly lower bass tone but damn deencan hit those notes smoothly and it has to be so so challenging to sing and keep time on drums 🥁 as he does. He is pretty closely matched to perry's vocal on this tune. I noted only a difference, and then only slightly, in verses. Perry definitely has a lower bass range in that aspect. But that Deen can step into those shoes that comfortably and attempt to do song I hadn't heard since 86 and it sound so fresh was ballsy and he did not disappoint any journey fan that hunkered for that sound. Congratulations 🎊 👏 Stellar performance 👏 ✨️ 👌 ❤
I can't believe I've never seen this clip before now. Google threw it at me. I was a girl who was at many concerts, behind stage with few. Man I always had a rocking good time. I've never seen Journey. If my memory serves me right, they came to Wichita, KS in maybe '99. For some reason I couldn't go, and I think I was told it wasn't Steve anyway. I caught the stand in on t.v. at some point. Awesome stand in. I loved this album too. ...Faithfully, Suzanne
Mindboggling how Deen can drum and sing at expert level simultaneously. Talent off the charts. Sounds enough like Steve Perry to delight Journey fans but has his own sound. Love his voice. Like the slightly speeded up tempo of this rendition.
I remember when Nuno Bettencourt once said why he called Neal Schon 'the bender'... HE'S RIGHT!!.. Neal BENDS all the last note of every solos he is doing since he was born!.. what a unique guitaist he was and still is.. 👍🏻
Wow! I've been a Journey fan since the 70's ... loved the Escape, Frontiers, Raised on Radio era and Suzanne is one of my favs! That was awesome!! To play drums with that intensity and sing so close to the original ... wow! Thanks for sharing!
Next to Steve. This guy is a powerhouse in his own right. And playing drums like a monster. Just found out at practice the other night our violin player went to school with him and still sees his brother l, who owns a flooring company in Salem Oregon. He said Dean would enter talent shows in him high school and his drumming would bring the house down
WOW,Deen sounds just like Steve. He doing a great job on the drums and the song too. But,my heart still belong to Steve Perry. Deen , u come in second place. Taking Steve place with Journey. Plus this my first time hearing Deen sing.
Let's face it ...Steve Perry is the greatest singer ever. But Deen is up there with him at about 99.8. I would definitely have this guy as my frontman. He sounds the closest to Steve Perry as anyone I've ever heard....💯 Amazing!
The guy in the right hand corner, behind the drum kit is called Jim Handley. He was Deen's drum tech and filled in for him on the kit occasionally. He is now the drummer for a Journey tribute band called Resurrection - A Journey Tribute based in Nashville. Give these guys a listen @ notjourney.com. You will be blown away, I promise.
On the best rock drummers ever (listen to Maximum Security by Tony Macalpine for some fine examples of his outrageous chops) and wow what a singer! What an incredible talent
Very rare instance here: Journey performing a ROR deep track, the drummer is singing it and it happens during the Augeri era. An interesting combination of circumstances. Nonetheless a terrific performance by the band and most notably Deen.
Best singer drummer in the world
Deen is the closest sounding to Steve. Totally awesome.
Raised on radio is a masterpiece album...
Agreed
Agreed dude
I think it’s my favorite journey album! I don’t think it gets the credit it deserves
🤮

Incredible breath control while pounding the drums. It's NOT easy to do!
It's incredibly difficult. He's very good, and sounds very similar to Steve Perry.
I am a die hard Perry fan but you gotta give props to Deen. Great job!!
Yep he is better than arnel and even
Deen is the ONLY one I don’t mind singing in place of Steve. His energy, love, and dedication of Journey’s music makes him a true heir to capturing their legacy.
DEEN
@@peterdent2019 Thank you for pointing that out! I just edited my comment to spell his name correctly.
Yes he has a great voice. Better than Arnel
Deen, awesome voice! I had no idea.
theres more on arnel than Deen, yes he's great but the richness of voice goes to Arnel and that what makes him last to the band
Wow! Ridiculous how he sings AND play the drums. He’s a beast! That Range....!!!!!
the man is a BEAST!
Great help from coke
Dean Castronovo was always a hidden gem in the band...this illustrates it!
Jesus this is unbelievable, he’s drumming while singing a very difficult song, get this guy more recognition!
Deen's a beast!!!! Still loving his singing in 2021!
this guy is a definiton of quality singing, perfect pitch, finesse, he is really superb vocal
And great drummer also!!💜🥁🎤💜🎶💜
Dean loves Journey’s music.. it is in his soul.. his performances are filled with passion and energy..

Unfortunately legalities are keeping this from happening. They need to just call the band the other guy and do journey covers.
Just the thought of Deen and Gregg doing Just the same way together... Holy Sh!tballs batman!
Nadie es mejor que Steve Perry ridículo, como se te ocurre
Dean will never hit a C5. Perrys vocal pyrotechnics are uncopyable. That being said , Dean's power thru his chest and head range is pretty impressive
As Keanu Reeves would say: "Whoah!" This is the first time I ever heard this song performed live since 1986. Deen did a phenomenal job singing and playing the drums at the same time. I wonder if they will perform this song again live now that Randy Jackson is back in the band.
If I'm correct, they have the RoR line up back together again
The song was used for part of this year's tour. It was Jason Derlatka doing the vocals.
Steve wrote this song to a secret crush who's also a singer and will live forever to this song
When I heard him sing this in Trenton NJ, I was like who is singing then I realized it was Deen and was like Holy Shit. This Dude can sing and play.
Always loved that song. Never heard it live. Dean is a great singer. Wish they would release ROR Tour DVD.
2:48 What a tremendous job on vocals!!
His growls are great.1:48
Bravo boys 👏 👏 🙏 🙏
I’ve heard lots of attempted covers of this song. Nobody has EVER sang it correctly except for this guy and mr perry himself.
Deen is unbelievable and blows my mind every time I hear him play the drums and sing those Journey songs flawlessly!! Wish I could Play and sing like that lol I’d never put my sticks down and never shut up!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Agreed..great muso..shame about his private life i suppose..

Deen Castronovo sings very very well much better than some "prestigious" singers
What a rare treat. Always loved Deen on vocals.
Wow- I picture Steve Perry when I close my eyes. BUT- There will NEVER be another like Steve P!
Almost Steve Perry.
Dean should be at the top of the list of drummer singers
Deen castronovo tem que gravar "Suzanne" novamente com o journey...Ficou magnífico!!

I LOVE this. Very UNDERRATED tune from ROR, Dean knocked it dead. ABSOLUTELY a BEAUTIFUL rendition. I think even SP would be impressed.
Deen Comes Close to Steve on This Song... anyone notice’s Steve’s Original Backing Vocals from The Album?
I sure did
Actually, those backing vocals are Randy Jackson. He was the bass player on Raised on Radio album and tour.

Pretty awesome 👍
I saw the ROR tour in San Francisco at the cow palace in Dec of 86. A facsimile is on the ROR CD of the ticket. Great times
This is awesome.
Fantastic job by Deen. Amazing that he can play the drums and sing a song that is apparently very difficult to sing, at the same time
Deen is the only voice I can listen too! Deen keep killin it!
