  • This is my micro camera shootout review, comparison and testing of the Foxeer Micro Predator and the Caddx Turbo Micro SDR1 cmos fpv cameras. In this video I discuss these cameras technical and physical specifications, I compare the cameras side by side, and I take them out in the field and subject them to pretty challenging environments in a day, sunset, cloudy and night time settings to see how they perform head to head. These cameras were stressed under these above scenarios in their out of the box, stock settings setup.
    *EDIT*
    It's being reported that the Caddx Turbo Micro SDR1 has a fov of 160 degrees on the 16:9 setting, and 165 degrees on the 4:3 setting.
    Here are some links to the latency testing of the Caddx Turbo Micro SDR1, with credit and thanks to Oscar Liang for his thorough and professional testing procedures. Spoiler alert, the Caddx had an average latency of around 37ms!!!!!

    Disclosure:
    You may or may not experience the same results that I show you in this video from your similar or identical purchases of these fpv cameras. I tested these cameras in challenging environments on stock settings, and both cameras settings can be adjusted by the end user to suit your environment or needs better, which is completely up to you. Both fpv cameras were powered by the same 3 cell lipo battery charged to around 12 volts, and both were directly wired to separate, yet identical Eachine Pro DVR's using identical Lexar 633x class 10 32gb micro sd cards.
    Here are a few links to more information about these specific fpv cameras, along with where you can purchase them from reputable vendors:

    Great video 👍, lots of useful information. Caddx clearly showing the best picture of the two. The SDR1 I'd say is the best looking Fpv cam Iv seen. I guess it's the Sony sensor inside do the magic, impressive.
    Thanks for the review.

    Thanks for the review, quick question. I have the Furibee X140 which only has a 3 pin connection for the camera cable and I noticed the Caddx has a 5 pin connection, will my 3 pin cable still work/fit into the Caddx or will I need a different cable and/or adapter? Thanks!

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383  6 лет назад

      Roger Neeb - Yes it will work with either the 3 or 5 pin connector, but with the 3 pin connector you will have no access to change your camera's settings.

    Please take this as a constructive criticism cause i love your channel - Doing a review on a camera based on its stock settings is like doing a review on a pair of running shoes without ever tightening its laces.. theres a reason why those settings are made accessible.

      plad plad - I'm not offended at all, I love hearing constructive criticism. The reason why I chose to test these camera's this way was purely for a few reasons, which the main reason was to keep it an apples to apples comparison with of the out of the box settings. The second was that I did mess with both camera's setting before the making of this video, and the Predators video settings were very restrictive and made little difference in the picture quality overall compared to the Caddx. In the end this was just a part one review, with part two coming with improved video settings and mounted in actual flying rigs. Thanks again for commenting and watching, while supporting the channel.

      Not everyone will agree. I see in many channels people question the review when you mess with the settings, because if you don't find the sweet spot of the setting then the camera looks terrible. So apples with apples will be ok with most

      @steelrainfpv3383  6 лет назад

      _Black.Pearl_ - Yeah it's a double edged sword depending on your pov, so I choose not to mess with the settings unless I find a setting difference that changes the image resolution completely.

      plad plad... I agree! Using the factory settings severely limits what the camera can actual do! Typically, the factory settings are no where near the performance you can get tweaking. Same goes for TV's... The factory settings suck! Tweaking is essential!.
      The best camera head to head I've ever seen is Oscar lLiang's latest one. It really let's us see how good all of these FPV camera can be. I trust Oscar to tweak each of them to the best he feels they can be... He's very good at what he does! I think these type of factory settings tests are honestly of little value to us.

    thanks for this one! do you know the best settings for the caddx? i have bought 2 and want to improve them from stock settings. Thank you again and cheers.

      KANGI - I'm currently messing with the settings on the Caddx while it's mounted on a build, but the weather around here hasn't been too kind for flying recently. I've flown the camera on a micro build a few times on stock settings, and I'm surprised how good it looks out of the box.

    Massively confused,.... there is another RUclips video with the same cameras that shows the exact opposite results, what is going on here? Manufacturing variations, different testing procedures? After watching such completely opposing reviews I am now unable to decide which one is really better, order both and figure it out I guess.

      Nixter_is_Nick - Which review was this? The only other video I've seen like mine is the Albert Kim video where he basically got the same results that I did.

    • @nixter1nixter1
      @nixter1nixter1 6 лет назад

      Check out this section freeze frame it; ruclips.net/video/B6uz1uoMxBY/видео.html The Foxeer looks better there and Kim says so, not the same as your review. I like the Foxeer better in Kims video and I like the Caddx better in your video, all I'm saying is after watching both I am stumped on which one is better. Maybe something is different in your setups and that changes the picture quality?

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383  6 лет назад

      Nixter_is_Nick - That's really subject to an individual's interpretation and opinion on the video quality, but I just watched both video's again on a 65 inch 4k tv, and in my opinion I still think the Caddx looks better overall. What's funny is both of these camera's look better in the goggles than the dvr recording, which I believe is due to the dvr's recording format, and RUclips downgrading the uploaded image. I also believe that Albert's setup for capturing the video is identical to mine, which is listed in this video's description.

      Thanks for making the video, never mind if the end results aren't always perfectly clear, like you said, perhaps the other electronics used in receiving and recording have changed the video's look. Sometimes an unexpected result leads to a new way of testing, maybe this will lead to testers using standardized equipment for video testing. I'll bet that in a few years they will figure out how to get HD video to work with low latency, perhaps using the new but expensive digital transmission protocols. The hobby could use 1080p or 4K video for FPV, imagine having that many pixels to fly a quad with.

    I wish that the caddx had a wider fov. But again you see the problem that i noticed with the predator. It is blury and sharping it will not help. Colors are blue. I compared it with the eagle pro 2 that i have. Eagle shows way more and the caddx seems to do the same. It shows way more detail and better colors. Want to see how the caddx keeps up against the eagle with wdr.

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383  6 лет назад

      emiel1976ep - Agreed, I've messed with the Predator and I just can't get the image quality anywhere near the Caddx, and my Eagle 2 and Eagle 2 Pro are still the best camera's that I have. Here's to hoping the new and upcoming Micro Eagle will be as good as the full sized versions.

    • @emiel1976ep
      @emiel1976ep 6 лет назад +1

      SteelRainFPV for what I know, they added extra options to the eagle micro what makes that you can play more with the wdr. Also it works even better in low light.
      I want the eagle micro. It has a ginger lens but I think that it will make you get a better image quality.

      Andy Joe - Just curious, where did you find out the information on the sensor size or type of the Foxeer Micro Predator? I didn't see it posted by Foxeer and I couldn't find the information you posted anywhere.

  • @HYEonDEATHROW

    A lot of hype about the foxeer. That caddx seems to show more detail in dark areas. I know they are both in stock setting but that foxeer looks really washed out as well.
    Foxeer wins in low light.
    My run cam swift 2 looks better than both! At least from what I saw here.
    Thanks for reviewing. ✌️

    • @steelrainfpv3383
      @steelrainfpv3383  6 лет назад

      HYEonDEATHROW - My Runcam Eagle 2 and Eagle 2 Pro easily beat these in terms of resolution and light handling performance, but I really wonder if it's the bigger or better cmos sensor, or the better lens on the full sized Runcams....... I'm waiting for the Eagle Micro to be released by Runcam, then we can see if it's a size/sensor/lens/algorithm issue with these micros. Thanks for watching

      having flown all three, the predator and sdr1 are miles ahead the swift. At least in my Hd3.

    • @andreas.charalambides

      I have the predator and it does show in the goggles as here in the video. It's very good inside a dark forest i fly, but I also can't get used to the colours. Of course much more detail than swift 2 but I can't fly with swift 2 in that forest. Now from what I've seen I really liked the caddx. It's how I want the colours to be, natural and warm, seems to be a little slow in light handling in comparison with predator but I can accept that

    I know the Predator works really good in low light, but I just can't stand the dull, wash out, blue tinted picture it produces. Too many sacrifices were made to get the low light performance improved! The Caddx blows the Predator away IMO. Foxeer, I will never buy the Predator regardless of the low light performance when all the other more often encountered lighting scenarios absolutely suck so0o bad! Regular daylight performance is terrible! On a scale from 1 to 10, I'd give it a 3 in daylight picture quality. The Caddx gets a 9. Not even a close comparison! Foxeer, i just don't get the whole dull, washed out, lackluster, blue tinted crap! Why? Wake up! There's more to FPV cameras than low light performance! How about making it perform great in everyday, 90% of the time usage, then work on low light performance!
