    I am a professional colorist and have worked with brands such as Prime Video, Adidas, Toyota, Vizio, etc. Outside client work, I run a color academy with over 6000 students. My channel mostly focuses on the taste-making (subjective) aspect of color grading. With the rise of AI, I truly believe that most of the grunt, technical (how-to) tasks will be handled by the software, and the job of a colorist will be purely driven by their art and imagination.

    Correction - Teller created or is regarded the father of the Hydrogen Bomb. The A Bomb was Oppenheimer. Obviously, neither really could have created these without teams of scientists. Thanks for posting this. We too were amazed by this film and have seen it twice in the last 3 days.

    Nice job. Maybe just a little bit more care would see that Hoytema used the Rembrandt lighting technique, which is characterized by the small upside down triangle under the shadow side of the face. That happens when a difuse light hits the face of the actor at a the angle of 45º more or less. So because maybe that can't be assembled by the relight function (cause lighting in both situations were different), I wouldn't bother to use it at all at this exercise to recreate a film look. Just assume lighting and match everything else would give even more nice results. Peace.

    Nicely done! But one criticism, if I may. If the kid is looking at Oppenheimer than the shoot is reversed, meaning the sun will hit him on the opposite side of the face. Sorry for the nitpicking :)

      The kid is also naturally lit from the left albiet somewhat backlit. Would have made more sense to enhance the direction of light already in the scene. It would have also tied in with the narrative as you said.

    that relight messes with perception of the background - where the light is coming from, it is like someone had a flashlight on him, feels a bit artificial to me, I understand the aim was to make it similar to original shot, but IMHO that was taken a bit too far
    other than that - this is like magic seeing before/after...

    • @theqazman
      @theqazman  Год назад

      The light is coming in the same direction and of course subjects are lit artificially almost always or you'd have no light on your subject during ext shots. Also, appreciate the love.

    I wonder if you are using relight because people like the effect or you really think it serves its purpose here and in the barbie tutorial. I think if you are masking it that way, I would have been easier to do the usual instead of the fx that instantly made your computer a little slower. Thanks again for the tutorial, still learning a lot

    • @theqazman
      @theqazman  Год назад

      The way it responds is completely different than just using windows. It creates a mask using the death map and direction makes a massive difference to emulate realistic relighting. People are freaking out because it's exaggerated so is the lighting in the reference. In reality, son would never light the subject like he's lit. There's clearly a light source and that's the point. People ask for "realistic" but don't understand that anything they watch is NOT realistic but recreated. Of course, digital FX will never feel as real as if it was done in camera.

    Hello Qazi, you are using Relight wrong bro. You had to get 1 input for relight then add another node to use that. One is for normal map ( first input ) then connect it to second relight node. Choose input . Boom ! much much faster relight effect

    • @theqazman
      @theqazman  10 месяцев назад

      Nope. That's if you want to have additional control. And it won't be faster it'll take longer cuz you're adding an extra step.

    I would absolutely LOVE to see you do a breakdown of the look created in the new film, Past Lives! I truly felt like the color grading was one of the main characters of the film. In particular I felt like they used a particular look for the shots in Korea (those are the ones I loved the most) and a different, ever so slightly more modern look for the shots in the US, representing how Korea was her past life. Any chance we could get a video for that? 🔥

    We're getting too many comments people complaining about the use of the relight FX and I wanted to further explain the logic.
    Sure it's an added light source that didn't exist in reality and because of that it may seem off. But, if you see the reference even that is not realistic. In reality, sun would never light the subject like he's lit. More importantly, if you look at the background the light is coming from an opposite direction. At least in our shot it's from the same side. So, they're clearly using an artificial light source on the subject and unfortunately for us we didn't have that so we ended up doing it in post.
    At the end of the day, color grading is subjective and how little or how much something is pushed will always be determined by who you ask.
    Stay positive and stay possessed. 💪🏾

    • @aniruddhasphotography
      @aniruddhasphotography Год назад +3

      I think you're wrong.
      In the Oppenheimer scene, I think the light is coming from the upper left corner of the frame.
      The possible reason behind the shadow area on the left side is the foliage as the sun is at an angle during the late afternoon.
      So the light on the face looks realistic.
      Look at the cloud and sky in the upper right corner, and
      if the light came from the upper right side then there will be light on the left side of the field.
      In your shot,
      The source light is in the upper left region of the frame and it is clearly noticeable.
      But you put the light on the right side...
      That's totally unnatural.

    • @theqazman
      @theqazman  Год назад

      My light is coming from that side. And also, no sun lights subjects for under their chin and that's what's happening in Oppenheimer probably with the use of bounce. Also, I explain all my actions in the video so not if this back and forth is necessary.

    • @aniruddhasphotography
      @aniruddhasphotography Год назад

      I've watched your video..
      Can you explain why is there light on the left side of the hat/soulder and why is there shadow on the right side of the hat/soulder..
      Why isn't there any edge light on the right soulder?
