Felder clamp works best with the pad height ~4mm above the material. You can make a shim of appropriate size and it should be relatively easy to clamp and unclamp. I had these on Felder FD250 horizontal boring machine and they are fine for that but I think they are only useful on slider when you can leave them in one place, like in a dedicated factory setup. I did not like them because the handle is longer than the pad length. Meaning when I unclamp the handle hits the material. Once in a while, I would loose grip of the handle while unclamping and it would hit the material. I kept denting soft woods. Someone suggested that I flip the round puck which changed the movement - to clamp move lever down, to unclamp move lever up. This worked for me but when I made pneumatic clamps for my slider I just adapted them for the FD250.
Thanks so much for making the video. You made it easy for me to decide not to buy the felder clamp. I tried a bessey track clamp but I didn’t like how loose it was in the track. I felt it could damage the track on the sliding table from repeated use. I primarily use my saw for breaking down sheet goods and would be clamping it in the same spot on the track constantly. Thanks again. I’m really enjoying your channel
Thanks, Johnny. The DeWalt is a bit loose as well, but I don't get the feeling that it would damage the track. You can't get as much clamping pressure as with the Felder clamp. There are some high-end pneumatic clamps that are really nice, but for my needs, they would be an extravagance.
Thanks, we are always looking for better clamps. The Felder with the allen wrench etc. seems like too much work. I'm trying the Kreg self adjusting clamp with an aluminum base that I made. It's working fine but still won't reach over the cross cut fence and has a limited thickness of stock range.
Hi, could it be you're using the felder clamp wrong? I think you're supposed to extend the clamp a bit further from the stand. That way the lever and the stand don't conflict and the handle could be a lot lighter to push down because it has a bit more travel. I'm getting my clamp in a week or so. I don't see this issue in any other video sofar. Let us know if you have a chance to test this .
Excellent point! I did just try what you have suggested, and indeed is much easier to clamp with the arm near its maximum reach. I don't see any reason at the moment to need a shorter reach, so I'm sure it will be fine. Thanks for the suggestion! I have also added the clamping levers as suggested by BuildFixed and that is also a nice improvement.
Nice comparison. The Felder clamp I think could be better if it was toolless. I plan to order some clamping levers for the clamp base instead of using the hex (allen) wrench.
@@CutitwithaHammer I just posted a video with the clamping levers. It is a super easy modification. You might want to consider changing yours if you move your clamp often. ruclips.net/video/BMFrbgTVXD0/видео.html
I haven't yet. I'm registered for September. They only do them about quarterly and I wanted to make sure we could travel. I do plan on shaper videos and I won't necessarily be waiting until after the class.

Thanks for the hint, Imran. I haven't used the Felder clamp in a while.

I have found the Dewalt clamp to be much more convenient to use and his more than enough clamping force.
I agree. The Felder clamp hasn't been on the machine for a long time.

I'd be curious to see what you come up with.

Awesome fix! If you have the Felder clamp, or are thinking about getting one, check out the video over on @BuiltFixed
Have you taken your shaper class? Are you planning on doing a video on the shaper?
