UPDATE: From the original charge, the camera lasted from 8/24-10/3 with normal use, including showing off all the features from this video. There is a ton to go over with the new Wyze Cam Outdoor. Let me know if you have any further questions about it.
Please forgive me if you covered this, but what is the maximum distance the camera can be away from the base station? I have a long driveway and would like to position a wireless cam about 50 yards from my house.
Wyze products are exceptional, incredible tech bargains, offer features that Simplysafe does not offer though they charge much more, like no added fee for cloud recording, Simplysafe doesn't not allow SD cards so to get any playback you have to pay them $5 a month per camera, the Wyze also has superior wifi connection range, I have had a Wyze cam over 300' away from my router and still received full operation, the Simplysafe seemed to need to be very close to the router to work, huge disadvantage. I bought the Wyze outdoor camera love how Wyze e-mails you and lets you know when it arrives, superior service from them. The base station needs to be connected to your router, was concerned on the range of the camera but was surprised when it covered all distances on the property with no signal drop, A+. Awesome that you can take it anywhere, even away from the base station and still record to the SD card. it is extremely well built, Wyze really takes pride in what they build. The technolgy built into for the price they sell them for is astounding. Buy with confidence, I now have 4 of their cams.
I have several version 2s outside in the weather. They have held up very well. I also have two pan cams outside and they are working well. I’m also using the Wyze Sense in my house and they work ok. I have had to re-boot the camera they are working off. I’m having problems with the batteries in them. I purchased new ones and waiting new batteries. I am also using one of the version 2 camera as a web cam. (Thanks to Wyze for the hack.) I’m looking forward to trying more of their products.
Hey Brett hope all is well. I've been using Wyze cameras basically since they were launched. I like these a lot, and most definitely will be getting this camera setup. You did a excellent job at showing what all the cameras functions can do. Thanks for sharing your review. Can't wait to see more from you and Wyze cameras what they have around the corner. 👍Up Brett
Glad to hear! I am still working on my review for the v2 so hopefully I can get that together soon. These little cameras are super handy to have around.
A VERY informative video! This was my first time even hearing about the WYZE video cameras & although I have not purchased one to date, I think I may buy several! Thank You!!
The quality of the microphone sounds better than the indoor version. Mounting a camera away from the house pointing at it will capture the action before they steal your stuff. Excellent video! Thank you very much : )
At the very end of the video you were discussing the limitations of the camera due to battery use. I am using v2 wired mounted to the house outside. I will be adding the wireless outdoor cam for angles pointed back at the house. Thanks again. Great Video.
I thought those mountains looked pretty familiar, but then I saw the fireworks and the date on the time stamp to know what state you live in. 😄 Great video. Just got mine today.
What’s the maximum distance from the base station? Doing a quick guesstimate, I’d say the battery would last 15 to 18 days between charging?. Another concern is the distance of the night vision.
When I did the test I was 50 meters away from the base station. I'll update in the comments how long the battery lasts. Night vision wasn't able to see as far as I would have liked. Any close objects to the camera make further away items harder to see so it is best not to have obstructions.
Disappointed to not have a wire powered version. Been waiting for this for a while, now i have to spend more in getting that expensive ring spotlight cam.
Chris Madison i waited for the outdoor version. I have bunch of v2 indoors. My system is composed of ring security system with doorbell and wyze. Controlled by alexa.
One of the biggest thing us Wyze camera fans have been waiting for is a wireless version. Not to mention, the outdoor version since conception has been known to be wireless. Not sure why you're upset about it, there were no surprises and if you dont want it wireless then get the wired, already water resistant, version and get the 50 ft cable.
Got mine - with a hat - and set it up. Is there an easy way to set this up so I can watch it on my office TV? I also have a V2 and Pan to show at the same time.
The only way I can think of is to mirror your phone or a tablet to a Chromecast on the TV. If you select the + on the Wyze app home page you can group the cameras to all be viewed live on the same page. The Cam Outdoor does require you to turn on the feed each time you want to view it.
Lots of info, thank you. Would this camera be appropriate for mounting around our large duck and goose pen to catch images of animals coming at night to harass them?
Hey there. New here, and fairly new to Wyze. I have two indoor and two outdoor CAMs and really like them. I am contemplating on getting the wireless outdoor CAM, but really do not want to have to have a Wyze base station. I was wondering if you know a way to get the Outdoor Wyze Cam and run it on a 3rd party 5vDC battery pack.
I loved this review. One of the best ones I found. I have an unanswered concern that hasn't been addressed in any of the videos I watched. We have MiFi (not actual WiFi) and don't have ethernet through a router. Do I need to get a router? My son said we could set it up at his house where he has high speed internet with a router, and then use it at home through our MiFi. I saw where you didn't need the base in the travel mode. We are in a very rural area and our internet is always being slowed down once we have used up a certain amount of GB in the monthly billing cycle. We have two indoor Wyze cameras that we only use in intervals when we're away from home.
The base station appears to be a Wifi 2.4GHz access point, with an internal subnet between it and the camera on 192.168.200.x. It's a little disappointing to have to have this compete for Wifi channels with my normal access point now.
I just got mine yesterday. I am very disappointed that it doesn't have playback. What is the point of having the sd card? If you want to view it it seems that you have to remove the card and view files on a PC. Wyze should add the playback button and have a caution above it that it will drain your battery. Thos way the user can decide if they want to use it. So if you are in travel mode without the base, there is no way to review anything via your phone.
Another nice job, Brett. It looks functionally similar to the Blink XT, but with rechargeable batteries and the potentially useful "travel mode." I know Wyze doesn't want you messing with the water resistance of the camera, but I see no reason why you can't attach a solar panel like I'm using for Ring cameras outdoors. Even in less than ideal positions the panels keep my Ring cameras fully charged all the time. I'll try it when I get mine...fairly soon, I hope. Also, from what I understand about PIR sensors, they're more responsive to crossing motion than they are to approaching motion. That might be a consideration when choosing a mounting spot. Thanks again for another nice review.
@@Resist4 Dan, this is routinely done with Ring solar-powered cameras and the convenience FAR outweighs the shortened life (far from drastic) and it really doesn't matter. I've been running Ring cameras for well over a year without any problems. I'd suggest try it and you'll find it works well.
Hugh Dinwiddie that might be because Ring has circuitry specifically designed to work with a solar panel, so the batteries aren’t kept at 100% all the time.
Just got my pan cam and I'm thinking of getting this one. I'm having difficulty receiving notifications for the camera sensors. I have it on but haven't received none. So I'm skeptical about the product
The big thing I'm looking for in this camera is its PIR function and whether wyze have a Person detect option/setting. As this has been up in the air for a long time now, I was really hoping this outdoor motion detect would be pet immune, have person detection option and capable of less false detections. I've found the sensitivity settings on the V2 camera's aren't useful in that regard (lots of triggers from light/shadows). I also would prefer to have these plug powered/not battery but I saw a comment saying that permanent powering is not recommended. Is that true? Have ordered one but delivery is couple months out.
You state you were able to go 50 meters away from base station. Any thoughts to why with only one wall in the way, why only get maybe 10 meters away? from your video looks like you were really more than 50 meters away. Thanks
as it was showed on Wyze's video the dock station (or however its called) has insert for another 32 GB card and its recording same thing there so its a back up.
Brett, can you explain the benefit of using an SD card in the base vs. the cam, or even in both? Also, any recommendation on best setting for Detection Range and Sensitivity? Also, are you able to get these to display on the Google Home Hub? I used to be able to get the Hub to show the Wyze Pan, but it won't now. Thanks!
So the Base Station SD card only backs up the footage from the SD card on the cam. So if your cam is stolen and you have a time lampse or scheduled recording on the cam it hopefully is still on the base station. Still testing out range but having it lower pointing straight seems best. For Google Home I haven't gotten it to work. Some have said after it failed once, ask again and it will show up.
Hello - regarding the distance from the base station, how is the signal going through walls? For instance, base is in back of house, camera is outside on front porch. Are there any issues with the signal because of the distance and walls? Thank you.
CURIOUS, ON TRAVEL MODE, IF ONE CAN LEAVE WITH THEIR PHONE AND STILL SEE IT RECORDING OR DOES THE PHONE HAVE TO BE NEAR IT? For instance, If I were camping, could I set it up in my camper and leave to go for a hike. Would I be able to check in on my camper in Travel Mode? Also, is it correct that it is 'not' using my phones wifi while in Travel Mode? Thanks for reviewing this.. Wyze has great products.
@@TechWithBrett so in theory you don't have to put an SD card into each camera?

thanks for your review can you tell us about the wheater capabilities. Can it resist to -30 -35 degrees in winter? And in summer can it resist over 30 degrees?
Great question. That allows you to backup all the footage recorded on the camera. So as soon as the Cam Outdoor saves something it can then back it up on the Base Station in the event the camera is stolen.
What smart light bulbs are you using? Here are a few options: 1. Tape over the light switch 2. Remove the light switch 3. Add a smart light switch 4. Ask your family very nicely to stop touching the light switch and teach them to use voice commands or share access to the app with them.
Hey Tech With Brett currently I use a TP-link smart bulb, but in December we’re moving house so I won’t bother now but in the new house I was thinking of getting new smart bulbs the Philips hue ones as they are much better quality and I can get a motion sensor that would work with it, thank you for the help but are there any light switches that work like when you remove the light switch then I could remove it, and then I could put a cover to also activate the lights, that work like a smart light switch to replace it and work wirelessly with the smart bulbs (that work in the UK)
But I want to still use the smart bulbs, just like a wireless remote to work with them so people can’t access the normal light switch but instead use a smart one to control the smart bulbs, if you could recommend a good smart bulb that I can easily add smart motion sensors or smart light strips and stuff pile that I’d really appreciate that, I was thinking of Philips hue If you think that’s good to?
@@DJDannyDante Yes definitely go with Philips Hue. They have a ton of buttons and motion sensors that are easy to integrate. You can also get an Aurora Switch to cover the light switch. See here: ruclips.net/video/S-UgSxOkzr8/видео.html
Brett...gyrations video ! I just purchased the outdoor cam and the battery went from 99% down to 52% overnight. It seems to be in constant live stream mode all the time, then recording when the sensor detects movement. Is it supposed to be like this or is there a way to stop live stream to preserve battery life? Thanks.
On travel mode do you still have to be connected to a wifi like a phones wifi? Or can you just record everything with the sd card without any wifi needed. Thanks
I got mine in yesterday ❤ do you know if the base is able to turn off like the camera or is the blue light always remain on even when the camera is off??
Great review. I purchased 3 starter kits but I am very disappointed with the shortcomings. I was planning on installing WCO for two relatives but the features are severly lacking. Wyze has not delivered a good battery based camera. Wyze should have delivered a Ethernet, POe, Local Storage, SECURITY camera, with open standards, and optional cloud storage!
It is not required but it gives you a lot more features. Without a Cam Plus subscription you get 12 second videos recorded to the SD Card and pictures in the history fees with a few minutes delay between each notification. Paying gives you longer video clips, videos in the timeline, and you can change the cool down time between notifications.
Do you know if the Outdoor cam will keep recording when it goes outside of the wifi zone (not in travel mode)? I would like to put this camera in my car to use as a poor man's Sentry Mode for my non-Tesla EV.
I just got mine today 15 Aug 2020. THANKS for your great info video...I subscribed so hope to get more stuff from you....By the way I got a black cowboy hat with mine that fits on top of the camera.....whats up with that .........LOVE the kids......Be SAFE
No it's sent to your phone. You have 14 day cloud with it. You also can store the views on the SD card as well via the camera and I believe there is a SD slot in the base in case someone was to steal your camera you still have it on the base
I love these videos but nothing say about base station: where to set, how far from the camera, where to connect . I love Wyze . I already have three inside and it's easy to instal. I think it's the same outside too but you don't say anything about base station. Please update and show more about base station.
isn't that base station acting as repeater?.. if it is.. then your speed will be slashed in half going to the camera... do we have to use the base station or can I use my router as with Wyze cam V2?
I have found that when trying to use my voice to stream on Google Assistant devices I get a blank screen that looks like it's loading. If I ask Google Assistant to show me the camera again at that point, it does start streaming. Annoying, but it kinda works.
I'm confused with this 12 seconds recording. Check all comments and didnt see (maybe didnt check well enough) the answer. So even with card inside you get only 12 second on the card? if you check on your phone and start recording (to the phone) you get also only up to 12 seconds? So if there is thief and you are notified you basicly can see a bit and when finally you see him tilting head up so you would see the face ... vision is gone? That would be ridiculous and I would flip! I hope card or this phone recording is recording more than 12 seconds?
I'm thinking about getting this just for use as a security camera inside my car via the travel mode away from home. So does it need to be near my cell phone to work? If I go to work, me and my cell phone will be hundreds of feet away from the car/camera and inside a concrete building
I called and called wyze and I have trouble with the schedule recording I set it for like 12 hours and I get like a couple seconds clip and its annoying what can I do and do I set sensitivity low if I wanna have my camera alert me when a car drives by? I'd say my street is no more then 15 feet away from the camera
Just received the WYZE OUTDOOR, Set up was ok, directions bad. I didn't realize base station had to be hard wired to router, didn't realize there was no playback switch for you SD card in the base. Not sure if its just recording events. Recordings appear in my ipad photo section.
I'm still waiting for mine. I really enjoy your videos, keep up the great work.

Thank you very much for your help Tech With Brett, so I need to remove the light switch and then can I cover up the hole with the Aurora?
Is it more advantageous to use sd card in the individual camera or in the base module?
You would want to use one in the camera. The base station is mainly to back up the cam SD card in case the cam is stolen.
Is there a low battery warning? I missed that.
Yes
Yes. So far I have seen a Low Battery warning in the app. Waiting to see if I get a notification when it gets low.
Will you be able to try a solar panel like the Reolink Argus 2 uses?
I can. Any recommendations on what to get?
Tech With Brett it has to match the cameras voltage and have enough amps to charge the camera battery pack.
how far does the signal reach for other cameras
Looks like it can only stay on, right now there is no option to turn off.
I wonder wyze pan magnet mount fit & screw on the outdoor cam. I wonder it would be flush since they are both round.
Do you pay for Wyze monthly??
It is not required but it gives you a lot more features. Without a Cam Plus subscription you get 12 second videos recorded to the SD Card and pictures in the history fees with a few minutes delay between each notification. Paying gives you longer video clips, videos in the timeline, and you can change the cool down time between notifications.
curious about how quickly you get notifications for movement. my nest hellow doorbell seems to take 30 seconds sometimes and it's not ideal
@A I i'm sure things will improve over time with updates, the price is right for a battery powered camera
I believe there is an cd card in the base station.
Do you know if the Outdoor cam will keep recording when it goes outside of the wifi zone (not in travel mode)? I would like to put this camera in my car to use as a poor man's Sentry Mode for my non-Tesla EV.
How to make that even to save if UPS guy is dropping a box? You don't know what time the delivery is coming? Can you clarify that????
I just got mine today 15 Aug 2020. THANKS for your great info video...I subscribed so hope to get more stuff from you....By the way I got a black cowboy hat with mine that fits on top of the camera.....whats up with that .........LOVE the kids......Be SAFE
I'm confused. If I have a vacation home 100 miles away. Can I not see what's going on? Does this send to my phone via WiFi and app?
Does it record continuously with the SD card installed?
No.
It does not have that feature.
Ajay Brown if it did then the battery would be drained quickly, probably in less than a day.
So if we want to see the footage from the camera we have to take it down?? If that's the case I'm not sure anymore
No it's sent to your phone. You have 14 day cloud with it. You also can store the views on the SD card as well via the camera and I believe there is a SD slot in the base in case someone was to steal your camera you still have it on the base
My Base Station gets super hot on the bottom. This normal?
How quick is event notification when it detects a motion ??
how long does it take to charge? I had the cam charging for 2 days n nothing
I love these videos but nothing say about base station: where to set, how far from the camera, where to connect . I love Wyze . I already have three inside and it's easy to instal. I think it's the same outside too but you don't say anything about base station. Please update and show more about base station.
What capacity of mini sd for outdoor cam?
isn't that base station acting as repeater?.. if it is.. then your speed will be slashed in half going to the camera... do we have to use the base station or can I use my router as with Wyze cam V2?
I'm not exactly how it works but the Base Station can only be used with the Cam Outdoor.
does the hub need to stay connected to the router via the ethernet cable after set-up?
As of right now yes. Wyze said they are currently testing if it can be used over wifi but being plugged in has the best connection.
Can you video récord thru the hub. Does the hub has a sd lot available
I have found that when trying to use my voice to stream on Google Assistant devices I get a blank screen that looks like it's loading. If I ask Google Assistant to show me the camera again at that point, it does start streaming. Annoying, but it kinda works.
Great tip! I'll try it.
Do you know if this WYZE cam outdoor cam fits or can replace RING floodlight cam?
I’m not getting notifications for some reason .. I have the sd card inside the camera but no notification .. you know what I might be doing wrong?
I'm thinking about getting this just for use as a security camera inside my car via the travel mode away from home. So does it need to be near my cell phone to work? If I go to work, me and my cell phone will be hundreds of feet away from the car/camera and inside a concrete building
It does need to be near your phone. It creates a WiFi connection between the camera and the phone. So if there is no strong connection it won't work.
I didn't see any mention on the box that it is Works with Alexa or Google. Does it?
It is suppose to work with Google Assistant displays but I only was able to get it to show up on my Echo Show.
@@TechWithBrett Thank you 😊
Just received the WYZE OUTDOOR, Set up was ok, directions bad. I didn't realize base station had to be hard wired to router, didn't realize there was no playback switch for you SD card in the base. Not sure if its just recording events. Recordings appear in my ipad photo section.
Came with sombrero?
If yours did that is because you were one of the first 50,000 to order.
Are you aware if the wise home base can be powered by a the Ethernet cable? I want to say someone said this may be possible.
Lindsey McDonald not possible and the reason it has a power cord.
It is very possible... w a little hack and elbow grease. Look up "power over ethernet on non poe devices free".
dtfcd well if you want to mod it, then yes it’s possible.
