Rosemary is such a tough one. I tried this several times hydroponically as well and I got the same results as you. I now have a huge oversized bush indoors but it’s in soil. Love this Chanel! I can’t wait for your next video. You’re so knowledgeable. Thanks!!
i live in mediteranean exactly and i put my rosemary in the soil and it became like a tree bush, excellent video especialy where you use peroxide to wash the roots, stgay stron and bring more
I like growing herbs in hydroponics. For years I was told herbs need dry soil with a little rain intermittently over a season. However, I found that basil, mint, dill, chives, and more like hydroponics. Rosemary has a woody stem and reminds me of a pine tree branch. Maybe a system like a Dutch bucket with 1x per day flooding would work better. You have me curious.
I agree with many about soil. Your hydroponics is good for getting a root system started but then you should transfer to its favorite soil in or out of a pot. Mine is in a pot my friends is in the ground. We live in Fl.
It would be interesting to check if an aquarium aerator would help keep in check the anaerobic growth??? 😮 But then almost empty reservoir would have served the same purpose...
rosemary does not love water. I have done it in a hybrid system though I am impressed you got it to root. I think it would have to be hybrid dwc or maybe Dutch bucket. If you do succeed I can post it on some groups that would be interested.
Hello. Thank you for your short, concise and useful videos that you post for us. They say that the plants that grow in the mountains have better medicinal properties, why don't they have excellent ingredients that can't be given to them with fertilizers and...? I want to use mountain soil for marijuana flowers. 50% of mountain soil and pebbles, in your opinion, if I make the soil free of insects and then use it, and use 50% with the soil of apartment flowers and in this soil from the beginning What changes will be made in marijuana, what will happen if we plant it from the beginning? And what excellent and mineral substances the mountain soil has in it. Can you answer me here? Thank you
Hi. I got a rosemary plant from the market. The instructions say that is good for cooking but not for planting. It has roots. I don't understand why it shouldn't be planted.
I would guess that they only want to sell it as food and if it isn't viable or doesn't grow they're not responsible. If it has roots, chances are you could grow it!
The key to make rosemary thrive in kratky is to understand the air roots humidity gas exchange. Most doing kratky are just praying for it to work, while most plants are very forgiving, some requires knowledge. Ive grown a big rosemary tree in kratky for a year now, its all about understanding the roots.
Would be nice to elaborate on "it's all about understanding the roots". What do you do differently, what is it we don't understand. Would be great if you could share the knowledge.
I have some growing outside in soil in a pot and it’s lasted me all summer long in Florida. Would be interested in seeing if Dutch buckets would work better for it?
Great videos thank you! What are those jars called that you have? Is it better to have black jars when you live in a colder country to preserve heat? How large should the jar be if I wanna grow peppers and bushy tomatoes?
The jars are from tomato sauce and i painted them. Black is better to prevent algae. For peppers/tomato i would start them in jars but eventually move them into 5 gallon buckets. 🪣 you can get food safe buckets at Home Depot
One thing that might also have been the problem (since it started out doing well) is that rosemary doesn’t need nutrients. Too many will infact kill it. If you give it nutrients, it should be very low.
Hey can you do another cannabis grow but soil vs dwc either way the living soil is amazing way to grow fabric pots 5gal etc fruits an vegetables for foods that feed the cannabis an the soil microbiology look into knf farming an rice water an whole milk to make latic bacilous
It looks as if the results were very good the first 3 months so why not just harvest and dry after that point? You could probably take more cuttings from it first and restart a whole new hydroponic cycle again and have an easy to maintain supply of Rosemary. I have those blazing hot, dry summers it loves and my Rosemary doesn't bat an eye to the heat. So if you want to grow in soil I would suggest not watering any more often than once every 2 weeks.
I was hoping someone had the answer in the comments.. nothing!!! I thought any of these herbs would love hydroponics. I'm blown away that it just doesn't like it.

Thanks for sharing, V! Sounds successful - I will give soil a try!
I grew rosemary in an areogarden system which have aeration so adding air stones might help
Thanks for sharing that! I was curious how they would do in an aerated environment
What timing did you use for water flow?! As in, was it 15 mins on, 15 mins off or 15 mins on, 30 mins off etc.,

Thanks for sharing - definitely want to keep attempting pumpkins until we get it!

Hi folks, I was wondering whether a drip system with long pause periods might help?
Could be worth a try!
@@JimmyBHarvests Maybe use a Botanium. It flush only every 3 hours, and the balls soak the water.
Tq jimmy for your effort. it save lots of our time n effort too. Appreciate it so much coz I was thinking on going with this method for my rosemary
Soil should be better
Any update on this...?! Did you try doing it again with aeration?!
It would be interesting to check if an aquarium aerator would help keep in check the anaerobic growth??? 😮

Haven't tried Rosemary in kratky, but can definitely say that thyme and oregano did *far* better when growing from seed rather than clippings.

I liked your white plastic bottles. What are they called? Could you please share its link? I couldn't find similar looking anywhere on ebay.
These are glass tomato sauce bottles that i spray painted the outside of. Glass > plastic

Also I see you sometimes use rubber foam in the net cups and sometimes clay. Do they both work?
Both work great, no tradeoff
I got the to grow hydroponically but I started from seed. However they didn’t do well as they like to be dry
Thanks for sharing- seems like soil is 🔑 here!
Got one I’m about to put into a Kratky bucket I’ll be starting videos this week
Best of luck!!

Love it. Soil seems to be 🔑
Initial rooting used pure water only?
Only tap water. Distilled (pure) would work even better.

Tried to grow in my Aerogarden Tower Garden...it does not..
.I'm nwfl gulf...the soil growth is key. So it's in elevated raised bed 💁♀️
Elevated raised bed- great idea!! 🙏
Rosemary is almost like a cacti plant, it likes those dry climates - like in California.
Do it again but with air stones are an aeration system.
I had a bad experience growing rosemary in hydroponics too. It's a plant that should be soil only sadly.
Thanks for sharing! 🙏

Looking forward to trying in soil next- thanks for the tip!
May I suggest you cut the stems at an angle to maximize the root growing areas
Ive found that performs worse:

@@JimmyBHarvestsok thanks !
other people suggest not filling the jar ...claiming it is not good for them only fill enough to cover the very bottom
Yeah that still seemed to be too much for these rosemary
Instead of hydrophonics try fog phonics with a timed switch set at low. same thing but uses fog instead

Agreed! Looking forward to a soil attempt this season
This guy: ruclips.net/video/HPYyiKkibFE/видео.html (10:23) seems to mention that grows rosemary with hydroponics (NFT), but I haven't tried it yet.
try adding a gold fish
My rosemary bush does best in just plain dry soil outdoors in full sun
