Went to base camp about a year ago. It takes about a week and 70kms just to reach the start of this video. At that point your buggered and all you want to do is stop every few minutes and catch your breath. Anyone who climbs Everest is a gangster.
What level of physical condition is required. Obviously youthfulness, say 20's, but does one need to be on an athletic level or do some just 'rough it' and still eek it out?
@@christopherfritz3840 youth is not even the most important... many ascend in their 40s 50s and 60s... your overall training, stamina, high altitude training, cardiovascular condition and everything matter a lot more than age
@@christopherfritz3840 I think the average age of ascent is somewhere in the 50's...
@@christopherfritz3840 no, I have also trekked to EBC in 2016, the main thing that's required is mental strength and discipline. Discipline because I have seen a lot of people do stupid shit, get sick on the way and then coming back. Mental strength because you have to have that since a lot of times you will feel the high altitude effects, but if you have the right mindset, you'll not panic. Physically speaking, obviously it would help that you're in good shape, since some parts of the trek, specifically between phakding and namche bazaar is quite challenging.
@@vaibhavthapliyal3429 Would it be too forward to ask how old you were during your trek/treks? I find the last comments insinuating that people in their 50's or older are 'regulars' to be quite fantastic (?).
The people that did this back in the day without the benefit of all of today's technology and groundwork laid by past climbers are truly amazing and/or nuts.
True
They are both amazing and nuts
@@luciusprepus not to mention their old fashinoed "equipment". When i see some old fotographs i sometimes see men in suits and lackluster footwear climbing mountains (not everest though, but still) . ??? What were they thinking?
yeah, that 1924 dude is really nuts
Or both and some of them are still there for everyone to see how deadly the mountain really is.
This was the most difficult climb I have ever made just sitting here on my couch. I even got a little chilly.
I even got gusty winds here as I was watching it sitting on my couch!!
I even got snow! Next?
😂😂😂😂😂🎉
Was it hard to breathe?
POV: this is the route your grandparents took to school
Uphill both ways .
@@dougnoal7041 I'm so glad my grandparents are from England, Ireland and Scotland. Nan lived across the road from school and went home for a hot cooked lunch every day. Of course, her school was blown up during WW2 but the next closest school was through her backyard.
My mom and dad walked further to school in the fifties and sixties than i ever had to .
Just a meme😂😂
I don’t get if
I can't imagine how maddening it must be to stand on snow in an ice valley and feel the sun beating down on you over 100⁰F
I hear you so cold yet you can get bad sun burn
I was thought that was windburn but I guess it's actually sunburn
Just incredible. I watch every video that I can find on Everest for a couple of years now even though I would never intend to climb it myself. I’m amazed by the people who decide to.
same here. lol idk why either
Yes I would never climb that mountain either, but it totally fascinates me. I watch every video and movie too. Greg you could maybe trek to the basecamp of Everest lol. Not need to go up the mountain. Im planning to do that next year
Look up the mountains, k2 or the matterhorn, they're way gnarlier than everest, even though they aren't as tall
Hey, buddy, guess what? You just climbed it 😊. Not only that, you climbed it in 3d!
I would like to attempt to climb Everest for personal reasons. Im a brain injury and cancer survivor having been raised up in religious and foster Care.
To reach the summit of Everest would be a picture of my life of conquering life's trials.
General rule of thumb: keep text in the frame for enough time to read it three times fast
Pause the video.
Some Random Dragon no. Edit the video better. If the majority of comments here are having the same issue, you won’t get many return viewers to your content. Why should we have to pause every few seconds on a 5 minute video. Completely takes away from it
Lol or read faster then a 5th grade level maybe???
Literally someone tries to be helpful to the person who made the video and half of you twats start insulting them for reading slowly.. when in fact the text does fly on and off the screen waay too quickly anyway.. absolute cunts in this world I swear learn some manners or go live in a bunker

My opinion is that too many people that climb these mountains don’t deserve it.This should be more like a life time achievement. You start with smaller mountains and gradually make your way up to Everest and K2You shouldn’t be able to just climbed, you should earn it!

Two things I want to comment on, first climbing Everest is as much about the climber conquering his/her own fears, it is not the most difficult climb but it is treacherous as the many deaths have signalled, secondly, their is something about the majesty of this mountain and the huge effort required to complete a successful climb, going to the moon is a team effort as is climbing this or any serious mountain, we can rejoice in the fact that the climbers who master themselves as well as the climb carry all of us with them, i can truly be grateful that I will never see this mountain never mind attempt to conquer it but I know that I will always admire the men and women who struggle to do the almost impossible and live to tell the tale, nothing better than a climbers story, thanks for all the effort, I for one appreciate the sacrifices you all make to achieve your dream, thank you.
Climbing this mountain. Is truly a great feat of human endurance not many can claim that they have climbed this behemoth for the few that have it truly is something to marvel at
Stunning visualization. Reinhold Messner did the whole journey - base camp to summit and back - solo, without bottled oxygen, in 4 days (3 up and 1 down) ... the Usain Bolt of mountaineering: two wonderful freaks of nature whose accomplishments are beyond the comprehension of most and attainable by no others.
Messner is a true legend of the climbing world
Messner climbed from the Tibetan north side; not via the south route (Nepal) shown in this video.
Now u should do a map of all the dead bodies left up there and were they are in relationship to the route.
I would totally watch that.
I second this
Would be interesting. I would watch that for sure but... how to map them if they can't find them all?

"And then...the submit" these words are more encouraging and powerful than the whole universe.
Hats off to the team who climbed initially without much facilities and making their own rule...
Dude! The khumbu icefall looked like a local sledding hill in this video!
Tbh it's a great place to go sledging. It's a bit of a climb, but once you get to the top, the ride back down is really worth it!👍
I've climbed all 5 of the volcanoes in WA state, and the butt glissade on the downhill is the best part.

David Quint right?! I’m totally exhausted while lying in bed!
Although...100+ degrees are the norm here in the Central Valley of California, so only being 100 degrees is actually considered mild, and I did walk for half an hour today. These guys are not familiar with 100 degree heat, I wouldn’t think. It’s rather tame to me. But then get me up to the elevations where it’s below freezing (Fahrenheit), and I cannot say anything....🥶
Looks like an incredible adventure. Even on sea level, the amount of walking up and down those icy surfaces would be a challenge, but on those altitudes, it must be nearly impossible. But the scenery looks awesome.

It's amazing what people dislike. You get a 3d view of the entire route of Mt. Everest. So cool!
The one problem with videos like this is that it is hard to tell just how large/tall the parts of the mountain are since there is nothing to base estimates off of.
Yeah, this video looks like climbing the Everest is a walk in a park
Thanks for this. I’ve been fascinated with Everest ever since learning about it on a field trip to the IMAX theater in Elementary School. Not sure if I’m that motivated to climb it, but man, just the thought of standing up there is awesome.
you could have included the 1)distance one must traverse in each stage, 2) average time to complete each stage. so, how many days or weeks to complete the whole process (upon arrival at base camp til i reach the peak)?

Most people dont realize that climbing everest is a) a very long process because your body has at be accustomed to these different heights. You go to camp 1 and then go back to base camp. At some point you get to camp 2 and down again. You will spend months on that mountain before you have a very small window to try for the summit.
b) its very expensive and you its best to find someone to sponsor you, because paying this one out of your own pocket is the cost of a house.
Have been to basecamp. And slept in nearby monastery. Could not sleep at all because of the altitude, about 5200 meters. Heart rate does not slow down even in rest. Great respect for climbers, especially those without oxygen!
I want to take selfie with that push pin on top of mt. Everest.

Pretty incredible presentation of what one can expect if they ever decide to attempt the climb.
The top most climb near the summit looks most difficult due to it's structure, height and the harsh atmosphere... The animation was realistic and detailed... Now I understood why it takes months to complete the climb.
Well done to everyone who has made it to the top (and those who've tried).

Thanks for the vid, it helped me a lot to know about the route before watching the Movie "Everest". The only thing I wonder is: Reading Messners report from 1978 (not the solo one, which he did from Northridge), he mentions a camp V on this route (on 8200 m). But all "modern" sources just list 4 camps on way. Has a 5th camp become obsolete on this route (with still 900m !!! left for summit "attack") over the years?

We don't appreciate Google Earth just enough. It would've been considered a fucking miracle less than a century, something as unimaginable as time travel seems to us, for now. It's beautiful and truly a huge accomplishment.
I've often wondered if it was a "technical" climb at any point. Turns out it's an extremely arduous trek at high altitude that's fraught with crevasses and other perils. This is close enough, thank you!
I believe there are one or two sections that are more technical, made more difficult by lack of oxygen and already being depleted.

Amazing and terrifying all at once! What people sometimes forget is that just getting to base camp is a trek on its own, you can't just Uber there and hit the trail to the summit the day after! Great graphics...
Correct. In 1990 when I was there, the road ended in a town called Jiri at about 4,000'. Then it was 2 weeks of hiking and hostels/camping to to the last outcrop of huts at Kala Pattar. I gassed out there at 17,000, suffering from all kinds of altitude sickness (upset stomach, throwing up, major headache, can't breathe right, no energy, no appetite). The base camp is at 21,000'. Then another 8,000' to the summit. Good luck.
