Thanks for making a trike video without bashing them. Rode 2 wheels for 40 years, went to 3 wheels due to equilibrium problems. Thanks to Harley for continuing to improve the trike.
Being able to lean a bike into turn is what makes it a unique riding experience imo. That being said, I would never knock a person for riding or wanting a trike. People have health issues that preclude them from riding a standard 2 wheeler. Or, they may just prefer a 3 or 4 wheeler for whatever reason. Ride or drive what you like. Who really cares what other people think.
For a long time now, I’ve been thinking about buying a bike and learning how to ride it. That would be there easy part. The reason why I haven’t bought a bike yet is because the hard part: trusting people on the roads. I feel happier on a two wheeler compared to a 4 wheeler in that everything about a motorcycle is awesome to me. The uniqueness, the breeze of air, and the look you give off. It’s just so hard to picture me riding a bike and some crazy person not being an asshole and trying something funny. That’s why I’m looking into getting a trike. Sure, it’s very different from a motorcycle, but it’s still the closest thing to it, plus your risk of getting injured or falling off is significantly decreased. Maybe I’ll buy a bike and only use it for local roads that I know well, but I just don’t trust anyone on the highway.
I started on 2's and moved to trikes in 2015 because my wife had a bad hip and couldn't take being on 2's. I bought a 2019 in September and LOVE it! 6k miles on her and counting. Smooth as silk ride out to Los Angeles from Dallas in October! The TC was useful while riding in the heavy rains going into turns!!! And the engine change from a 103 to a 114...ABOUT TIME HD!!! PERFECT FOR THE FLHTCUTG!!
Trikes are the T bucket of motorcycles. And they are great to have. But more importantly they help those that may not want, or can ride on two wheels and that's awesome.
I have a 2010 harley tri glide 8 years so much fun love it actually wanting the freewheeler trike I was born with a nerve condition and my right leg is turned gets worse as I got older I had a lil dirt bike as a kid but grew up on quads my dirt bike I had problems with it fell more and couldn’t handle it as well as my quad so love my trike awesome
Wife & I are on our second pair of TriGlides. 2018 Decked out anniversary rides. They are rewards after both of us riding Harleys all our lives. Retired & loving it. Grant ya, you lose the Dance, but still In the wind.
I owned a 2016 trike, had to sell it for a move overseas in 2018. I owned it because it was fun to ride. No excuses. It was fun to ride. Plan to get another when I get back to the states!
I was pretty anti-trike for a while but now that I’ve been riding I am starting to look at them a little differently. Just think of all the places you could mount a GoPro on that bad boy. It’s a RUclipsrs dream.
I just recently purchased my Trike and let me tell you it’s fantastic. I recently sold my ultra limited and was skeptical at first. Was the best decision I made.
I know this video is 4 years old, but it really helped me decide to buy a 2019 Tri Glide. The one I got is the same color combination, too! You’ve got a new subscriber! Oh, and thank you for letting me know to apply a brake when I want to start it in gear!
John, I rode an HD Trike (after a Road Glide and Breakout) at an HD demo event just for grits ‘n shiggles, and to answer given curiosities... I’m hooked! This thing was so damn pleasurable and cornered like a slot car. As a rider who enjoys extreme weather riding day or night, should I ever be in a position to buy a full tourer, I’ll probably get one of these. To the naysayers: just try it first. I’m so happy HD is addressing the clutch engagement thing. I own an ‘05 with cable clutch and hydraulic was my biggest disappointment at that same event. Keep on keepin’ on... hope to make my second ride a 3-wheeler one day!
Got my wife a 2012 Tr Glide, put 35000 miles on it in 2 years, traded it on a 2016 Tri Glide, she's put 10000 mike on it this year. She Love her Tri Glides (traded her 94 Fatboy after her knee replacement), Love the colors on that one, and the 114...WOW, our 103 has a stage 2 and Vance and Hines Twin slash. Great Video
I have a 2017 and it is awesome. I can only imagine what a brand new one would be. Perfect bike for older people like me who do not want to quit riding.
I'm glad you brought up the difference in turning a trike vs. 2-wheel.. In four months I'll begin my 51st year on two wheels. When I lose the faculty of balance and/or too stiff/old to get on/off, I'll quit.. If I tried to ride a trike I'd be dead within one mile....'cause I'd "lean" into the turn, go the opposite direction and end up as a truck's hood ornament.. Great video - as always..

Hey John just a tidbit of info..I've been hearing all these tire pressures from everyone your info was right on the money.. as I said I bought Michelin Scorchers for my Dyna Switchback..WHAT A DIFFERENCE from Dunlops..My son called Michelin in South Carolina..they said KEEP the air pressure what's on the down tube as you said. Thanks.as far as my 1200low t sporty these Scorchers are still. Stock and 6000 miles..what a bike 4th one I've had and this one's the best..thanks again
i went to trike after my accident where had they had to do surgrey for my leg which resulted in them going through my knee twice and after that a two wheeler just wont happen the knee is just to damn unstable and on top of that the ankle blew apart .. but hey a trike is just as much fun and going on the highway is super comfortable for long trips
I took the '19 trike for a demo ride at the Barber's Vintage Festival in Birmingham, Alabama last October. After having to watch a 10-minute video on the trike systems and being given a pep talk by the factory demo guys, I was curious about all the fuss of riding a trike. After I pulled away to do my parking lot familiarization ride, I COULDN'T KEEP MY FEET UP! After 40 years of two-wheelers, my muscle memory insisted on putting my foot down at stops. During the entire ride, I had to keep reminding myself to keep my feet on the footboards. Riding a trike is a completely different experience. John's right about taking one for a test ride before buying one.
Before I bought mine I rented one for 3 days. First day I hated it. Second day I warmed up to it. Third day I loved it. Going on 3 yrs now and love it more each time I ride it.
I rode two wheels when I was a kid. But due to my double lung transplant. And nerve damage in my left foot. I had to go to a trike. Thank you for this video.
Great video man, when my street glide got a little heavy for me to hold up I went to a 2015 Freewheeler and luv it more and more every time I ride it. This year I rode it down to Bring it Home, in Paris Tx...had a beast ( met u while there ) was shocked at how many trikes I saw there. Keep your knees in the breezes... after all that's what it's all about
I have owned two trikes now I had the 2012 in which we road to Alaska and back. I went back to two wheel medical reason (lower legs) I had to come off. I purchased the 2017 while deployed and love it. I have added a lot to it to make it mine. The Demo ride help and even thou I had a trike I was to watch a video but lucky for me the DVD broke LOL so I had a small demo in the parking lot to prove I knew how to. This is a great video to show what you could. I loved the radio and suspension and wished they would have redesigned the trunk. So I added shock and lift kit the trike rocks plus the recluse clutch and mMD reverse. Electric motor on them are not good. Thanks again
I ride an '05 Road Glide I had converted to a trike because my whole lower back is destroyed... Would love to get a new one, but I am now so spoiled by the frame mounted faring I didn't even want to try the new Tri-Glide. The reason I went with building one tho was because the former Lehmann rear end was so stiff and not independent suspension, but with this new one being independent, that warrants at least a test ride!!! Thank you Mr. Maxwell for the thorough infomercials!!! (Fred Marshall)
Jon I just got done watching a trach a video nice bike you forgot to mention about the reverse how it works the relay switch case it pops the breaker I got a friend bought one 2015 he has a problem with his breaker thank you
You know that’s one Perdy machine. My father is 78. He rides California to sturgis yearly. Taking the curves a little slower helps with how much muscling you have to do.
Just a few days away from getting my FXR, can you imagine a 1990 with 8,548 miles ? Soon to be the third owner, two and a half weeks in FL. and a FXR Merry Christmas to me !
John, I spent close to 5 1/2 years in Columbus at Benning. And, from a Cali guy, I actually miss Columbus and Georgia at times. And still recognize some of the places you ride around. And I’ve been to that dealership.! And cause of your videos. I’ll be attending MMI in Phoenix Arizona in March.
nice looking bike. i got bad knees and hips.I always wanted a harley davidson and the trike is my only hope. the way i see it, a harley is a harley and dont matter what it is
All joking aside, I rode a 2016 (or there about, it was a 103) trike for a 300 mile ride in Texas. That one lacked enough low end torque for the weight. Fun to try for a day. Always thought that an electric motor in the trunk would add a lot to it off the line. Plus, it should be able to lay a pair of black lines (is it a limited slip?).
Excellent video! I couldn't deal with that tinted windshield. It obscures too much road. Two wheeled motorcyclists are always telling us how much upper body strength trikes (Harley and BRP Spyder) takes, but I didn't find it objectionable at all. Perhaps if I rode one all day for a long day... At first I thought I'd want a Harley Trike, and got my 3 wheeled MSF endorsement. Turns out I prefer the way a BRP Spyder rides better. They are strange looking - but fun. That Harley is $38K? YIKES. That's $11K more than the last new car I bought!
Been riding HARLEYS since about 1975 / motorcycles since 1970. It’s time to think about a three wheeler / Constant migraines & vertigo every day is a bitch⁉️ 68 yrs old this month & not ready to hang up my gloves yet. Thanks for the VID. & the info⁉️!!! WILLY CA 🦅🏍⚒☠️⚡️🌎🇺🇸🏥🦠🏥💣🙏👍🙏🔥🔥🔥🔥9️⃣
Really like your ride and reviews. Reminds me of Shawn Smoaks, master mech at Pro Caliber Motorsports. You, Shawn, Ryan Urlacher, Shadetree...and a few others are my favorites. Forgot how many bike posts I watch:)
Going to definitely have the updated clutch part put in my 18 limited. I hate the engagement all the way to the end of the stroke. Going in for first service and clutch recall so I'll have it done then. Thanks for the heads up. Love your vids.
Let us know... Just did service on 2018 triglides & was told the change happened in 2016. Clutch still way out their after recall. Dam not good, thank you
Hi John, another to the point and honest review. Never thought much of the Trike, but now see how it CAN be an alternate choice for some riders, many also who are getting older and don't want to go smaller and lighter and possibly lose some of that "Big bike" feel and comfort. Thanks
Been riding since 9yrs old, I'm 63 now. Bought a 17' Tri Glide 2 yrs ago because I'm into the touring bikes and they keep getting heavier every year. Rented a trike for 3 days and put 600 miles on it. Took it back to the dealers and bought one. Last year a deer ran out in front of me. I was doing about 50mpg. Didn't T-bone it but just clipped the lower part of it's rear leg with the front tire. Big thump through the forks. Both of us survived. Not sure that a two wheeler would have stayed up. Lovin the Tri Glide.
@@johneaton3609 Hi John, I'm 61 and last June bought my first Harley, a 2018 Road King. Love the bike but often feel the weight when moving the bike around, or during very slow maneuvers. I see a trike in my future...Ride often and be safe John.
I really like your camera placement - a lot less wind noise when you are speaking. And it's a great camera angle (perspective.) I've never ridden a trike (per se) but have driven a couple of side car rigs - 1 on a Gold Wing and the other on a HD with manual shift (lever.) I suspect these new bikes are great to drive - not ride! And it's been years since I was last on a 2-wheeler (late 1980's.) Thanks for sharing :)
Great info. I do like it, but not sure it is quite time yet to add another wheel. None of our local dealers have a new trike in anything other than vivid black and the red and silver combo.
We really like our 2017 custom color 2 tone blue and the transition was easy my question is the 114 top end going to be in the P&A catalog for us 107 owners , it has been none of the upgrades were available for the trike and I can’t say that I felt that I needed traction control they take the curves great
I was reading through some of the comments and im glad to see HD modernize the trike. Do you need traction control abs and something that heavy... most of the time you don't but when you do it's good to have it! Great video
John, the more they sell the more you have a chance of working in them.I know if I ever get things going the right way I'll get a bike from your dealership so I can listen to Alan Jackson on my trip to Indiana with a layover in the smilies where tail of the Dragon has nothing on the roads I remember 20 yr ago(which may have changed now, 127 is relatively straight now on Ky/Tn border.Let's hope they didn't butcher 154 also.I got side tracked but this does come back as a "comission" for you although not in the traditional sense.
I get why people would switch over to trikes, I've rode one and agree that it takes a lot of upper body strength to steer it. So when do you think they will come out with some kind of power steering for one?
John Maxwell A clip on various options for the clutch lever would be fantastic. Travel distance for the friction zone is an issue for many. So many owners have that issue, we would certainly appreciate knowing the options available to us. May they be a change of lever or an internal clutch component replacement. Thanks, great videos.
a mechanic tried to find adustable clutch / brake for me and said they fit everything BUT a trike [sighs]. My hands are shorter than most men's but i had to get used to the travel being so far out. A semi auto clutch w/paddle was going to run me 2k plus labor [screw that]. Maybe the 2019 levers can go on a 2018? Still looking for a resolution.
Rosemary [US-CT] take a look at Kuryakyn Blade lever, they offer a closer reach model, also on the web, Hogleverage.com offer an adjustable lever. And I think a company called PSR have an adjustable lever as well.
That's funny! There was a time when trucks were mainly used for work or hauling. Maybe trikes will someday be a status symbol! Especially since the CVO trike is $50k! Sounds crazy BUT trucks today are $80k to over $100k for top if the line.
Do you know a Mitch Mottern? Back in the early 90s we did MMI together then he was going to Chattahoochee Harley. His old lady, Glenda, Mitch, and me and mine used to party some as we lived across from each other in some apartments. Just curious. Be safe, have fun.
Harley really needs to compete with the reverse trike market. I know they're terrified of some of their customer base hating the idea but they need to take risks. I am now sure how the styling would look but can am has got that market down pack. The reverse trike would alleviate a lot of the issues Harley is having with the trikes steering and stability. Can am has power assisted steering so that it is not difficult to turn for older folks. This is why they're losing so many customers because they're too afraid to take any risks.
I have a question waiting for delivery on my 2022 tri glide thinking about getting a rekluse clutch installed, your thoughts please good idea or not. thank you
John, what do you think about the linked brake system? I’m working on an ‘18 115 anniversary trike at our dealership out in the Pacific Northwest for one of our Vietnam Vets. His old trike we liked up the front & rear master cylinders since he can only use the front brake. The newer set ups have changed the thread pitch on the master cylinders not allowing us to do the same set up. I’m planning on tapping into the link somewhere to get the same effect. Short story long, what do think about how much percentage the front brake is linking up with the rear?
I use both brakes when stopping, so I didn’t notice it. The only time I’ve ever noticed it on the touring models is when there is a big wheel and the front brake lever pushes out. The system thinks that there is an issue because the large front wheel messes with the sensors.
I never knew anyone who needed to adjust their clutch cable and pack every 5K miles, shit, I don't ever recall having to adjust mine, ever! I've broken a few cables and have used vise grips (in place of the lever)(the ones with the curve, not needle nose) to grab what was left of the cable to get my ass home. As far as a Harley trike, let me know if they ever get with the times and offer what everybody else has and that's independent rear suspension. I mean damn, this ain't much different than a 60's servi-car. How about a trike that leans in the turns? Now that would be something but I'm sure you know it's already been done and of course, not by Harley.
Tried to trade for one, local HD dealer offered me 8000 for my 2015 FLHTP police with 2300 miles on it (which I bot new) that ain't happenin so I found a 2014 Tri Glide with 34K for 15800 which runs out great AND I still have my 2 wheeler, 19s are nice but well over 40K OTD with taxes and fees? I can def live with my 14 which looks pretty much the same for 25K less. And keep my still like new police unit. Nothin wrong with a well tuned 103 either.
Mr Maxwell. I have a 2020 Tri Glide. How do you calculate the shock pre-Load on this model? The calculator on the H-D connect app isn’t giving me the information.
Hey John I have a difficult question sorry to bother you on Saturday. Is there a toe and he'll shifter for my 15 switchback. I bought one last year from jp cycles and it didn't fit..that shaft on the transmission didn't stick out far enough. Does anybody make a hell shifter for this bike or is it a major job to change things??! Thank from Robbie in winter Haven,fl
Thanks John for that great video. Can you please ship that scorched orange triglide to Pa. I have been looking for that paint set in my area and there are none to be found. Do you know if they will start producing them again in the spring? Thanks Jerry
You show us your blank work list for the day meanwhile I had a 9 am appt at Orlando H-D Monday for a bracket repair under the fairing and a new rear tire and this monring they told me they may get to it today. I personally would expect you guys to be busy. You mention people getting trikes because they are less strong but it takes a lot to turn the trikes. I see your point I personally feel it is more a matter of being able to hold the bikes up. I know that while I am a phycially strong man, my back and knee issues may see me on a trike one day.
I think this whole "trikes create a major upper body workout" thing may be a bit over-stated. I was on a Can-Am for two long hot days in the summer and I didn't think they overtaxed my upper body muscles. I don't recall any arm or back soreness. And no - I do not lift weights.
@@BegoneJonah Not a real workout but in tighter higher speed corners it takes a little force. Can't compare to the Can Ams they have power assisted stearing, one of the folks I ride with has a CAN AM and she can turn with her fingertips, no so much on my trike.
Thanks for making a trike video without bashing them. Rode 2 wheels for 40 years, went to 3 wheels due to equilibrium problems. Thanks to Harley for continuing to improve the trike.
gary krause you got it brother! When I can’t do 2 anymore, I’ll go to 3 wheels

nice looking bike. i got bad knees and hips.I always wanted a harley davidson and the trike is my only hope. the way i see it, a harley is a harley and dont matter what it is
I’m not a fan of the hydraulic clutch I own both I want to be able to adjust the free play to my liking.
HD, how about a hybrid electric trike? Drop the livewire motor in the trunk. 😁
I bet we'll see those eventually.
Wes Clark it could be a fast HD 🤔
YIKES. That's $11K more than the last new car I bought!
yeah. and the distortion of the view is terrible. but it is a damn good looking trike!
@@954Lacko Agreed! I like how trikes look.
Send the trike to me for a winter vehicle up here in Indiana.I'll test out that traction control !
The Dampener helps if you hit pothole while turning or in a curve, wont jerk the handelbar out of your hands
For sure! I’ve ridden some without it. It’s downright scary
I have a mountain of back problems and Im getting older. My legs suffer from weakness, so the ole trike looks better every year.
Really like your ride and reviews. Reminds me of Shawn Smoaks, master mech at Pro Caliber Motorsports. You, Shawn, Ryan Urlacher, Shadetree...and a few others are my favorites. Forgot how many bike posts I watch:)
Thanks for doing a trike review. Good video. Thanks for the smile from outtakes.
I'm a happy Harley owner but if I was spending that sort of money I'd be getting a Gold Wing trike, shaft drive and sooo smooth.
Dam not good, thank you
Do a review on that RR in that background!
John, I think I could easily be persuaded to ride a trike. I love the looks of that one. Good video.
Always wanted to take a trike and hot rod the crap out of it. Foot clutch, tank shift, wide whites etc... great video.
It would appear, your time at "FLMM" added some new production skills. Nicely done John Maxwell.
Your videos are the best.
Only 38.5! In that case I think all get two, one for the daily commute and one for the weekends :D
I have a 13 triglide and love it .
2019 is one of the model yrs of the rear brake controversy and crashing in turns.. 2020 also I think
That’s an awesome looking bike bro
What the heck Coner was doing out there?
Dude that's exactly how the clutch on my 18 streetglide is! It engages/releases way way out
I’m 14 when I’m older I want one of those they are dope
Great video
hope you getting a commission on all the sales you getting the company, seeing you have such a fantastic youtube channel
One could wish
that a bit of a booooo
John, the more they sell the more you have a chance of working in them.I know if I ever get things going the right way I'll get a bike from your dealership so I can listen to Alan Jackson on my trip to Indiana with a layover in the smilies where tail of the Dragon has nothing on the roads I remember 20 yr ago(which may have changed now, 127 is relatively straight now on Ky/Tn border.Let's hope they didn't butcher 154 also.I got side tracked but this does come back as a "comission" for you although not in the traditional sense.
I like the paint scheme
I’m not in the market for a trike, but I enjoyed the video, John!
I get why people would switch over to trikes, I've rode one and agree that it takes a lot of upper body strength to steer it. So when do you think they will come out with some kind of power steering for one?
Still no independent rear suspension for the Tri-Glide even though the aftermarket world is killing it with them...
Like the videos.
Why doesn't Harley put a independent rear suspension. Wouldn't that give you a smoother ride?
Please give your fans an update video! 🤘🏻😎😎💜🇺🇸
hey John great video, can that dampner spring be retrofitted to the 18 ultra classic? continue to make them and ill continue to watch them...
John nice vlog on the Trike. Be Cool and Ride Safe🇺🇸🏍
Hey John thank you another cool vlog, that is one nice trike,if I had the money I would buy that trike in a flash, way cool machine.👍😃
God that thing is beautiful... if only I had enough money to buy a bike that costs more than my house.
@@paulhd9535 ty for the references man. Wayyyy down i found an answer to one question; John said the 2019 levers can be fitted to an older bike.
A lotta guys think riding a trike is for the older crowd. I think they're pretty cool and I wouldn't mind at all cruising one around.
That's funny! There was a time when trucks were mainly used for work or hauling. Maybe trikes will someday be a status symbol! Especially since the CVO trike is $50k! Sounds crazy BUT trucks today are $80k to over $100k for top if the line.
sounds good with stock pipes!
Brilliant love it and he’s good as well larry in London x
Please do more in depth reviews of the 2 trike models by HD!!! These seem to be secret agents to the average biker!!!
Changed your mind about the BMW?
Don’t like trikes...won’t own one....if I get bad enough physically that I can’t ride......I’ll build a 32 ford roadster.
Great video I enjoyed it
Do you know a Mitch Mottern?
I'm a little shocked for the price it doesn't include the heated grips or luggage rack on the tour pak like the Limited.
Very nice review.
I was shocked that for the price that it wasnt a fully loaded car.
my trike cost 40k... should have included a man for the back seat ! [wink}
Sweet bike
The new part in the granny you was talking about the company that I work for make it .
Been viewing your shit since the start... awesome brother ... time for steering bearings... cheers man....
Are they still automatic or is that a option
Mr Maxwell. I have a 2020 Tri Glide. How do you calculate the shock pre-Load on this model? The calculator on the H-D connect app isn’t giving me the information.
Good vid John !
I recently saw a video on RUclips about automatic clutches for Harley Davidson's, Do you know if they still make them ?
Quick flight down for paperwork and this one is all yours!
Also, I have no idea about their production schedule. Sorry.
The reason I am on a trike my legs are shot, check them out they are a blast.... also SCA Kro?
I think this whole "trikes create a major upper body workout" thing may be a bit over-stated. I was on a Can-Am for two long hot days in the summer and I didn't think they overtaxed my upper body muscles. I don't recall any arm or back soreness. And no - I do not lift weights.
@@BegoneJonah Not a real workout but in tighter higher speed corners it takes a little force. Can't compare to the Can Ams they have power assisted stearing, one of the folks I ride with has a CAN AM and she can turn with her fingertips, no so much on my trike.
James Holbert sure am

John quick question... Not trying to make it sound stupid but I do want to know do these new trikes have reverse?
Yes they do
struggling for videos topics. How about performance upgrade to your 114 with your evaluation of cost vs performance gains. Great videos!
I just did that about a month ago. And money stuff...no worries it’s coming. I just have to be able to afford it
