One of the most under-rated games of the previous generation. Amazing campaign, with fantastic production values and one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. Really fun multiplayer as well. Sold like shit. Would be surprised if Rockstar have another crack at it. Hope they do.
I think the single player for Max Payne 3 was on-par with L.A. Noire, not greater. I mean... the production of it all like you mentioned was excellent. Beyond proficient is a better description. The multiplayer could've been better since R* abandoned it. But overall, I LOVE MP3.

Took him 3 games, but finally, Max managed to save someone, and in doing so, saved himself. Also, a perfect way to describe Max: A pessimist is just a dissilusioned optimist. The way he sees the world is always dark and dank, not because that's how he sees it... that's because that's how it truly is. You can hide the darkness by covering it up, but sooner or later, the darkness seeps through the cracks in the lie.

When I heard of the song Pain 1:05:42, I could almost feel the end of Max's depressing adventure. It felt like such a relief, that now you wont have anyone shooting at you anymore, you wont have people dying around you, you finally have nothing to worry about.
And then Tears 1:09:13 plays and completely got me syked to play the entire series again.

This game really understands my depression. Everything from Max's monologues to the damn music.
Max Payne 3 is one of those bittersweet masterpieces that was so good it doen't need a sequal, the story ended perfectly and Max needs to rest. But I crave more of it's awsome gunplay mixed with badass noir narrative!
they should remake 1 and 2 with current gen engine. Can you imagine how stunning New York in the snow would look now with an engine like Red Dead 2 !!

This isn't all of it, BLASPHEMY (track 5 - from Stadium 2nd half) and SEVERIN (track 6 - chasing Victor) are missing. This is the fault of R*, because they gave one exclusive track to every distributor of the OST, which means that NO VERSION of this soundtrack is complete- NOT EVEN THE CD.

really represents the torture that Max has been through his lonely years, and it all started when his wife was killed, and yet the man still lives on to fight another day.
This track really hit me man, that guitar just playing those sorrowful notes should have an impact to anyone listening. :'(

I just saw Max Payne 3 as a generic 3rd person shooter, boy throw Holy Water at me. I've not even finished the game yet and it's probably one of my favourite 3rd Person Shooters. Such a great atmosphere, the miserable Max, gunplay, all that Gore, Jesus it's so perfect. And what an AWESOME SOUNDTRACK.

Oza Ramadhan No, it'd be unnecessary. Max has gone through everything already, and if you've seen the ending to 3 it's practically a send-off for him. I believe a trilogy is enough.
Oza Ramadhan Maybe they could do a prequel or a spin off. The prequel could take place before MP1 or somewhere between MP1 and MP2. The spin off could be about a goon or Mafioso who works for the Demarco's or the Punchinello's family. It would still have all the gameplay mechanics' from MP3 and have the graphic novel cut scenes instead of the cinematic and it goes back to the noir feel that MP1 and MP2 had.

my favorite quote from the game, it's near the beginning, after the hotel party, and Max asks who would want to hurt them and Marcelo replies, very seriously, "haters."

"Painkiller," dudes. Some epic shit right there. Reverb, fading bongo drums, harsh guitar, synthed to the max and made excellent by some of the best layering and composition I've ever heard. Gets me pumped up!

Definitely the most memorable, next to 'Tears'. It is such an exceptional sound that gets stuck in your head, and for once, doesn't get repetitive. I love it everytime it sets in.
"Torture" is honestly one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

This game is ridiculous. Max Payne is one of the only games that has ever made me feel like I was going through all this shit with the main character. I literally felt so bad for him by part three. He's gone through sooo much. :-(

Old games are extremely overrated. The first one is great but the 2nd is meh, aside from the mods. Writing isn't nearly as good as it's made out to be in either, just action movie cliche upon cliche. Anyway, Rockstar always have been and always will be better developers than Remedy. Just compare their titles and you will see.

Such an exceptional soundtrack- the entire work could be a masterpiece, it compliments each situation, Max's character, and the overall atmosphere. Hard to imagine the game being as good without it.

In spite of wanting to play a new Max Payne game, I think the story should end like this. Max has been through enough. Let's let the guy drink beer and enjoy that eternal sunset for the rest of his life. He deserved it.
Health did an outstanding job with this one. Underrated game, underrated band but a masterpiece in my opinion.
I love the moments in the game where the music introduces the gun fights, it's just cool, the drum beats, the bullet time, all together make these moments insanely fun.
I liked the whole OST, but Health - Tears, Severin, Painkiller, Pain, Combat Drugs, Blasphemy, Shells, Max NJ, Max Kill, Max Panama,Max: Finale, Future, Pills, The Girl and two other compositions in Chapter XII and Emicida - 9 Circulos is best!I I just fell in love with this game, it's my favourite game. Max Payne my favourite game serious.

Guys seriously, how can you name your top list from the soundtracks and not include "FUTURE" in the top 3? That's one of the most authentic and depressing tunes in the whole soundtrack.

"Dead" is one of the most disturbing songs in a game, what with that distorted crying baby in the background...freaks me out.
It's that same baby cry from the dream sequences in max payne 1, max's own child. IT MAKES IT EVEN WORSE

I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It may have taken a darker turn, but it still delivered for me. (Yes, I played the last two games and I really enjoyed those too)

I think the game needs a prequel rather then a sequel as it ended so nicely. What I think they should do is like have it set just before MP1, so like max is fighting crime with his friend Alex, it'll be great to know more stories between the characters and get to know more about him. Like, if you read the comics, it showed that max and alex were busting drug points together

Pre-MP1 payne could, potentially, be at one of his lowest points in his life. Bear in mind, by the time Alex dies, Max has had time to setting into the grief and copes somewhat via his painpill addiction. If cut back before that; we have a very freshly injured man who's only just beginning to cope on drink and pills to help him come to terms with his wife brutal death.
What I'm getting at is that a prelude game would explain his downwards spiral that lead to him taking the more dangerious undercover jobs and let us explore the cracks that formed in his mind as they did.
actually a better idea is to have the game set in 2 timelines one before the events of mp1 and one after mp3 . after all max have unfinished business in NY
***** after his wife and child died he wasn't drinking his payne off. He actually went undecover to find bastards that caused this tragedy. So i guess you could write a story of how he worked undercover.

A couple of interesting details that I don't think anybody has mentioned:
Pay attention at the beginning of the "Max: NJ" track. That melody is the Max Payne main theme (the original theme with the cello. The one that sounds during the intro/opening credits) slowed down 300%.
Also, at some point of the track "Dead" you can hear the sounds of a baby crying (the same sounds from the dream sequences in MP1).

Goddamnit, this is some of the best study soundtrack music, but it REALLY depresses me to think of this game. I completed the game a long time ago, but all I can remember is failing New York Minute Hardcore time and time again. Its literal pain.

We need to talk more about "Torture". This soundtrack literally hurts you physically and emotionally when you hear it. I've never heard anything reflect the feeling of grieve and past mistakes and sins torturing your mind more realistically and painfully, and I'm most certain that I never will.

This game is timeless it’s great in every aspect but where it excels is the music I’ve never in my life heard a game with more perfect music I’ve played lots of games with incredible music, but I can’t explain why this game beats all of them even my favorite game. There just something about the score, rockstar did there best hiring “Health” because they put on there best performance. We can say that about every rockstar titles music but this one is different through the whole game u don’t feel like stopping cause the music never dose even in some of the cutscenes the music is always going. Even if it’s depressing it adds to everything I’ve never had to go through what max did but somehow the music make me feel like I did. Just wanted to say that this game has the best score in gaming and I know it’s my opinion but it’s one of a kind, listen to some of the songs. PAINKILLER and MAX PANAMA are 2 of the best songs I’ve heard in game period.
