I want to add some thing here, if u listen to chal ud ja re panchi in Talat voice, I think it sounds equally or slightly better than Rafi Sahib version of the same song. Although I am die hard fan of Rafi Sahib but. Some how the song "chal ud ja panchi' sounds more melodious in Talat Mehmood's voice.

This is not fair what Rajendra Kumar & Manoj Kumar did to Talat Mahmood saab. Talat's voice was one of the best velvety & melodious voice which nobody can beat. Perhaps you might have heard Talat saab singing the song of Rafi Saab चल उड़ जा रे पंछी की अब है देश हुआ बेगाना। तलत साब इस गाने में रफी साब से बेहतरीन गाया है। You tube में सुनिए और आप अंदाज़ लगाइए किसकी की आवाज को ठीक लगा।

Sir, you are not correct. "Chal ur jare panchi" is one of the best song sung by Rafi Saab. It was and is so popular even today. I think Rafi Saab sang far better than Talat Saab. Voice of Rafi Saab is so clear, powerful particularly in this song. That's the reason that the song became world-famous. Talat Saab is also a good singer. I am not against him. But Rafi Saab 's "chal ur jare panchi" is just unparallel.

It is a fact that Talat saheb was a great singer with velvet voice suitable voice to render soft romantic ghazals during 1946 to 1962. After that the quality of his voice deteriorated may be due to continuous smoking . His inability to sing high pich songs added to his misery. By this time dancing heroes with tremendous agility and movements began to dominate commercial film. Nobody can expect Chahe Koi Mujhe Jungli Kahe, Lal Jhadi cMaidan Khadi, Le gaya dil Gudiya Japan ki, Aaasman se aaya farista, mere desh ke dharthi, na muh chupake jio etc from Talat saaheb. He had become outdated in the changed film world of Mumbai. He had his good time but cannot expect that to last for ever.

Great injustice was done to Talat Mahmood in both Palki and Aadmi by their respective heroes, Rajendra Kumar and Manoj Kumar in rejecting Talat Mahmood songs, without realizing the immense pain to Talat Mahmood, by these rejections. Also, Naushad should have consulted these films respective heroes before recording these said songs. Pitiful indeed for Talat Saab, who alongwith Rafi Saab sang that immortal duet in Sushilaa

No comparison between the dulcet voice of the ghazal king janaab Talat Mahmood, and the rather harsh voice of Mahendra kapoor. If not for BR Chopra and Music Director Ravi and to lesser extent C Ramchandra in his lean period , Mahendra Kapoor would not have received the fame, recognition and awards that he did. Talking of Palki,-- the film was a total disaster!! There has never been another voiceclike that of Talat's

Shammiji ,dharmendra aur kai gayko ne rafiji ko peak par pahunchaaya par Rajesh khanna ji ni rafiji ko peak se utaarkar kishorji ko peak par bithsayaa thaa. Phir isme kismat ka bhi bahut badaa hath hota hai. Aapki saral aur prabhaavi peshkash ke liye shukriyaa aur 👍👍.🙏🙏🙏

I have read the interview of Naushad Sahib or heard that Rafi Sahib refused to sing the song as he considered Talat Sahib a senior and put the conditions that if Talat Sahib agreed to it and Talat Sahib song is also included in the Record.

Never heard or read anywhere that the Palki ghazal was recorded with Talat Mahmood ; if it was than CAN YOU PROVE IT BY PLAYING IT'S RECORD/DISC. This aside the ghazal is definitely best suited to Mohd.Rafi & Naushad the maestro did full justice to select Rafi singing it. The fact that it was such a difficult melody , Talat would not have been able to cope with it.
Naushad was a very humble n honourable man. For the 'Aadmi' saga he released both the versions out of respect for both the co-singers - Talat n Mahendra. I prefer the Mahendra's playback was more suited for Manoj Kumar and Mahendra sung very well.
I would be most grateful if you could produce the alleged Talat version of the
' Palki' ghazal. It would very interesting & well worth a listen.. Also would provide ample proof n back your interesting story.
Maybe late Naushad's son Raju could clear the air and confirm either way.

Sorry to defer Sir, if Talat Sahab’s voice quality deterred therefore it was rejected isn’t true. If so then how come all three solo songs of Talat Sahab got immensely popular in the film JahanAra . With due respect for Naushad sahab for his contribution to Hindi film music , it was not a good decision. It is simply like carpenter blaming his own tools. Similar situation was posed to stalwart music director Sajjad Hussain sahab, Madan Mohan sahab, Anil Biswas sahab , they refused to accept terms and conditions and left the films . That is some thing like guts. Fact is some music directors lacked it and lowered chairs value. About today’s so called music less said is better ,,,

The kind of songs Talat sang and became hits suited to his style only. Sad and shaky voice type of singing suited melodramatic melancholy type singing. These all Talat's songs of his entire life could also be sung extremely well by Mukeshji, Jagjit singhji, Bhupinderji and Rafi sahab.

It's still a mystery why Naushad didn't use Talat's great voice after the massive success of Babul in 1950. Yes, the great Mohd Rafi was Naushad's preferred voice because of his ability to sing various genres of songs. Why did it take Naushad to consider Talat after 17 years in 967, especially when Talat was clearly past his best?

The whole talk about dispute between Talat and Naushad for songs of palki and Aadmi is wrong. Both were no longer visible in music industry in 1967 and past their prime. Change was due to distributors/ financiers of the movies.
But after babul in 1950 , never Naushad used Talat voice but surprisingly in his produced movie MAALIK, Talat was the hero. So there has to be something else which no one knows as to why Naushad didn’t use his voice in 50s’ and till 1967. While in 50s’ Talat was a good competition to Rafi amd was preferred by others like Burman, Madan Mohan, c Ramchandra , Salil Choudhary etc.

After Naushad Sahab found Rafi sahab his focus shifted from other male singers to Rafi sahab.Naushad sahab claimed to have groomed n sculpted Rafi sahab for his career in hindi films.He was rather possessive of him. I can't blame him for feeling so .Rafi sahab theyy hi aise. Rafi sahab ek taraf , baqi saare singers ek taraf.
it's not fair to compare other singers with him. No one can match Rafi sahab ( leave aside Sur Kokila Lata ji ).

In Saathi at least one song could have been recorded in Rafi Saab instead of Mukesh, whose only duet in that film was hit. The other solo by Mukesh did not become a hit, which could have become hit had it been recorded in Rafi Saab's voice
It was an attempt by Naushad to weave the magic of ANDAZ (1948/49) , with Majrooh and Mukesh. Alas, it did ok ok.

Talat saab version has more pathos than Mahendra ji. Had Naushad Saab been as adamant as Madan Mohan ji was in Jahanara and Laila Majnu when he chose Talat saab over Rafisaab for the former and Rafisaab over Kishore da for the latter this episode wouldn't have occurred.

There is a lot of confusion about this song.
I saw this film on the second day of its release and can very well distinguish both voices and in the print released when I saw the film was the voice was that of Talat Mehmood. But on the gramophone record released later onthe voice was that of Mahendra Kapoor. Just reversed. It was also rumoured that Rafi sahib did not want to sing with MK as was agreed between the two. Also rumoured was that Rafi refused to sing in his next film Saathi for this betrayal. Who will now tell exactly what happened will remain a mystery.
It was because of Mahendra Kapoor who forcefully insisted Rafi Sahab to sing the song and Mahendra Kapoor had done a great injustice to Talat Mahmood. Mahendra Kapoor won the filmfare award for best playback singer on 1964 , 1968 was because of B.R.Chopra and as well as on 1975 by Manoj Kumar . B.R.Chopra had a huge dispute between Rafi Sahab regarding about Rafi Sahab to sing for B.R.films permanently and strictly warned him not to take contract with other film producers as a result Rafi Sahab rejected the contract and because of this Rafi Sahab barely got contracts from varoius musical directors and Mahendra Kapoor took advantage of it despite considering Rafi Sahab as his Guru. Chalo ek baar phir se, In Hawaon mein In Fizaon mein (duet, happy/sad version), Tum agar saath dene ka, Neele gagan ke tale, Nah muh choppa ke jiyo and etc were supposed to sung by Rafi Sahab but because of B.R.Chopra's stupidity all of them was given to Mahendra Kapoor. Although Mahendra Kapoor could sing pretty much like Mohd Rafi but he still lacked experience and he was new to bollywood industry. Mahendra Kapoor was a copy cat and an inefficient singer who wanted to help B.R.Chopra by replacing Mohd Rafi but miserably failed

In a way, let's accept that Talat Mehmood was on the decline by then. The songs were ghazals and possibly Naushad went for Talat, going by past performance.
Listen again to Aadmi song sung by Mahendra Kapoor, it was definitely better than the low soft voice rendition by Talat.
Maybe, Manoj Kumar was right in wanting the change. But in Palki, Rajendra Kumar was not correct as that rendered by Talat was fine on him.
