It is not possible to sing 26000 songs as claimd by this anchor. More likely it is a few thousands. Even that number is astounding!
His career was spread over 40 years so doing the math at least 650 songs per year and on an average less than 2 songs per day which is not impossible at all. In those days a film on a minimum had 5 songs which can be solo male or female or duet or group songs . if you are so doubtful do the research or keep it to yourself do not expose yourself. Mind you he was the most popular and sought after singer by any music director and heroes, he was like a success guarantee for all, there cant be any doubt if he has sung that many songs. IF a TV anchor in UK is telling something he should have definitely done the homework and research before coming on the program.
Let me ask you how many songs do you think TMS, SPB or KJ Yesudas has sung? When TMS was there , there were others like seerkazhi govindarajan, am raja, mahadevan etc but majority of the songs were sung by TMS and later same happened with SPB even though there were many other singers, like wise in malyalam industry there were other singers but KJ Yesudas sang majority of the songs because they were the preferred ones by music directors and heroes of the films.
Like wise Rafi was the preferred voice of almost all top heroes, music directors, directors and producers even there were singers like Mukesh, Mannadey, Kishor, Talat and others hence he sang majority of the songs same case in females for Lata, you got it.
If you can lay your hands on some archives you will find AVM, Devar, MGR, M. S Viswanathan-ramamoorthy-joseph-krishna team, TMS, SPB, Jesudas, paying their glorious tributes when he was alive and even after his death.

Mohd Rafi Sahib have sung in many language other then Hindi.
Book is available with more then seven thousands Mohd Rafi ji songs listed in
that book. Mohd Rafi ji have said him self in one of the Radio interview that he
have sung 25 to 26 thousands songs. Mohd Rafi ji can’t be lie.
+Asker Mirza I agree with you 100%. For nearly three-quarter of a century I been listening to his songs. I have collected records from 78rpm thru 45rpm, the 33rpm in LPs, and records that played in car players etc. Thanks for the break down.
