Is The Trek Rail The Best E Bike I've Ridden Yet?

- The last time I rode an e-bike was march 2020 with Danny Macaskill and it was an absolute blast! Today I got to borrow a Trek Rail and give it a good thrash in the Kilpatrick hills with Mark Ducat. This is the older Rail model and not the newly released 2022 version, it's just a total coincidence that they released the newer model this week.
This is the first time riding one of these bikes and I was impressed...I liked how smooth the motor engaged and the suspension seemed supple and did it's job well. This isn't a review but I would like to ride it again :)
BIG thanks to Mark for the company and to his dad for lending me the bike!

I'd love to hear your thoughts as usual.
Thanks for watching!

Hi Algorithm! Breaking news, Al, your Dad has bought an ebike from Blazing Saddles! Now he can keep up with me up the Weardale hills,
*So far so good my **Latest.Bike** , 35 miles so far, been great. Changed seats, makes the ride a little better. Lot of power, happy with purchase.*
OMG!!!! I say this to many people: Watching many things on a phone screen can be disappointing... I just watched this on my 27" iMac; full screen; sat close enough so that all of my vision was in the field of view... WOW! I was holding my breath through the trees! Had I been on my bike on the training rollers (not a clamped turbo trainer), I would have crashed! BRILLIANT!!! 😁
Fantastic video, love how you've linked yours and Marks together.
And nice one Shug for lending you his bike!
Is he doing rentals 😂
That was a great vid, variety is the spice of life
Glad people like these. I’ll wait to watch the next video on a bicycle.
I'm hoping to tick these trails off my bucket list.😼
Great work.
You look like Gee Atherton haha! Cool video man! 👍
Um vídeo com ali Clarkson,Sam Pilgrim e Danny mackstill seria muito legal!
Hey man! Nice to see my local trails on your channel! I was there last week and this week after the rains, and it can be well sketchy! especially the bit were your front wheel washed out near the end...
Great ride. Lots of good looking trails up there.
Sick to see more mountain bike content
Damn you sent it 😂 you deserve much more with this channel, keep working
I’ve been riding trials only for the past couple of months. This has made me want to get the nukeproof out and get to the local trails next weekend. The trails in this look awesome, amazing views as well 😍
I’ve had a few head bangers while sliding out like he did. I think it happens when the trail is rutted/dugout, and you don’t expect to be so close to the ground.
I totally love to ride the TREK RAIL!
Ayyyy I've got a 91 roadster, great video btw!
Awesome!
Remember the issues with image stability and resolution/low light performance in your early mtb videos? These new cameras are light years beyond that already.
I think that partly had to do with the fact of youtube having possibly the worste compression you could possibly have for mountain biking vids.
Basicaly youtube does not like movement, the more shit moves in your video the more it gets compresses and the more it dumbs shit down, you can see this in alis vids too, when it's a POV of him blinking the quality is noticeably worse then when he's standing still and blogging.
The modern cameras now have done something that allows them to be so much better on RUclips, idk what but it just does. Just go to my YT and watch the most recent vid, done on a go pro 7 white (3-4 years old), the compression just fucked the entire vid over (FYI, the vid is as optimizer as I can make it, upscaled so it gets less compressed, right video format/encoder, etc). Idk how people like Ali even get footie on YT this nice, mine always turns to shit.
I got told that RUclips makes 4k as a priority resolution and has a less extreme compression so 4k will be noticeably less noisy than 1080...even if it’s then played back in 1080. In the last year or so I’ve tried my best to upload in 4k where possible, even if I film in 1080 I’ll upscale the export to 4k to take advantage of this. Only issue this year is that I’ve not had Wi-Fi and 4k uploading drains my phone data :(
@@Ali_Clarkson Do you live out of your van now permanently?
@@2nd3rd1st no, I actually had to give the van back due to supplies running thin, I’m in a fortunate position of moving into my own house but I haven’t organized any broadband yet
@@Ali_Clarkson Commiserations and congrats! Check if Starlink is available to you if you can't get cable broadband
This is the video I need being in isolation with covid and feeling depressed about life
There's always a positive outcome its just if you want to find it bro
Dont lie, u know ur the best. u can feel it if u really try.
Great vid Ali ! Is there an app to show the trails? I'm guessing strava lol
7:58 da hero 10 is shaking😲
Probably the harness not tight enough
I saw you riding alongside Danny on a couple of Hecklers, so I'm going to say "No, the Trek is not the best e-bike you've ridden yet."
(I have a soft spot for the Heckler, mostly by name due to the fact I own both an original 1996 and sixth generation non-electric Heckler.)
That was amazing.
What trek rail was that you borrowed please.?
I have a rail 7 and can't manual it for s##t
Great job as Standard
How much is a bike like this?
The ole algorithm comment.
That was wild lol, was this recent?
Looks a bit boggin eh james 🤣
@@m8arx aye, just a bit man. Maybe stick to the man made ones in the winter 😆
I like the camera on the helmet more than the one on the chest
I'm currently shopping for a fully e-mtb but I'm not familiar with these beast, definitely havn't taken one out to test yet. And I've been an exclusive manual hardtail rider for 4 years now. Do you reckon it's hard to go from a light hardtail to one of those massive heavy machines? Are they still nimble enough or cumbersome to throw around?
You will get used to riding them for sure but I dont know how long its gonna take. Throwing them around i dont find a problem on big air but on small gaps and hops they are for sure less nimble
@@sameol_g7553 I would have to shlepp it up and down stairs fairly often, so I'm looking for a fairly light one anyway and one with push assist for sure.
You will get used to the weight it's all relevant, they are only really heavy loading/unloading them otherwise you dont notice (in the same way you dont worry about the weight of a motorbike when riding it).test ride the ones you like, and hope you dont have too much of a wait for it to come when you take the plunge.(ridden mountainbike since 1987 ,rigid, hardtail, full squish etc,now wont go back love my ebike also means I can keep riding as age and old motorcycle accident injuries prevail)
@@jamespaterson6550 Yeah good points, thanks
@@2nd3rd1st as to having to carry it up the stairs,if you take the battery out you find that they are pretty much same weight as a ordinary bike (well nearly)
Would love to see you have a proper go on a modified ser Ron thay are crazy fun I had a go on my friend s one was faster than most 50cc /125cc s he spent crazy money on his tho never be able to afford that me haha
No offence to you The intro summed up your day without 200m Rotors front and rear E Bikes are hard to stop LOL Couple months ago I spent the weekend on friends levo it was like a Run away freight train lol It was fun but didn’t like it I prefer to Use my own power LOL
I don't think u can get a rail with less than 200mm rotors
The bike is called Rail because that's where it belongs?
