Is The Trek Rail The Best E Bike I've Ridden Yet?

  • The last time I rode an e-bike was march 2020 with Danny Macaskill and it was an absolute blast! Today I got to borrow a Trek Rail and give it a good thrash in the Kilpatrick hills with Mark Ducat. This is the older Rail model and not the newly released 2022 version, it's just a total coincidence that they released the newer model this week.
    This is the first time riding one of these bikes and I was impressed...I liked how smooth the motor engaged and the suspension seemed supple and did it's job well. This isn't a review but I would like to ride it again :)
    BIG thanks to Mark for the company and to his dad for lending me the bike!

    I'd love to hear your thoughts as usual.

    OMG!!!! I say this to many people: Watching many things on a phone screen can be disappointing... I just watched this on my 27" iMac; full screen; sat close enough so that all of my vision was in the field of view... WOW! I was holding my breath through the trees! Had I been on my bike on the training rollers (not a clamped turbo trainer), I would have crashed! BRILLIANT!!! 😁

    I’ve had a few head bangers while sliding out like he did. I think it happens when the trail is rutted/dugout, and you don’t expect to be so close to the ground.

    Remember the issues with image stability and resolution/low light performance in your early mtb videos? These new cameras are light years beyond that already.

    • @shemshem9998
      @shemshem9998 2 года назад +1

      I think that partly had to do with the fact of youtube having possibly the worste compression you could possibly have for mountain biking vids.
      Basicaly youtube does not like movement, the more shit moves in your video the more it gets compresses and the more it dumbs shit down, you can see this in alis vids too, when it's a POV of him blinking the quality is noticeably worse then when he's standing still and blogging.
      The modern cameras now have done something that allows them to be so much better on RUclips, idk what but it just does. Just go to my YT and watch the most recent vid, done on a go pro 7 white (3-4 years old), the compression just fucked the entire vid over (FYI, the vid is as optimizer as I can make it, upscaled so it gets less compressed, right video format/encoder, etc). Idk how people like Ali even get footie on YT this nice, mine always turns to shit.

    • @Ali_Clarkson
      @Ali_Clarkson  2 года назад

      I got told that RUclips makes 4k as a priority resolution and has a less extreme compression so 4k will be noticeably less noisy than 1080...even if it’s then played back in 1080. In the last year or so I’ve tried my best to upload in 4k where possible, even if I film in 1080 I’ll upscale the export to 4k to take advantage of this. Only issue this year is that I’ve not had Wi-Fi and 4k uploading drains my phone data :(

    I'm currently shopping for a fully e-mtb but I'm not familiar with these beast, definitely havn't taken one out to test yet. And I've been an exclusive manual hardtail rider for 4 years now. Do you reckon it's hard to go from a light hardtail to one of those massive heavy machines? Are they still nimble enough or cumbersome to throw around?

    • @sameol_g7553
      @sameol_g7553 2 года назад

      You will get used to riding them for sure but I dont know how long its gonna take. Throwing them around i dont find a problem on big air but on small gaps and hops they are for sure less nimble

      You will get used to the weight it's all relevant, they are only really heavy loading/unloading them otherwise you dont notice (in the same way you dont worry about the weight of a motorbike when riding it).test ride the ones you like,and hope you dont have too much of a wait for it to come when you take the plunge.(ridden mountainbike since 1987 ,rigid, hardtail, full squish etc,now wont go back love my ebike also means I can keep riding as age and old motorcycle accident injuries prevail)
