    Fast forward a year later to July 2024. Over here in the USA at a Trek dealer near the city of Pittsburgh a brand new Trek Rail 7 Gen 2 can be had for $3800.00 USD. Original MSRP on it was $6649.99 USD. Bike is exact same as the one featured in your video. It should be coming in within one week from Trek warehouse to my local dealer. Wow, it definitely is a buyers market now. No matter what minor issues it may have, that is a whole lot of bang for the buck.

    Me and a mate own Trek Rail 9. Top spec alloy version. Comes with a Zeb and really good component spec. In our view its one of the best value for money offerings out there, good performance, great reliability. The Bosch system is arguably the best system going, the emtb mode and power overrun and features i couldn't do without now. Ive done nearly 4000km on mine in 2.5yrs and had zero reliability issues. For the km im doing... i actually think my service intervals are lower than my steam bike was. Full phat ebike is where its at. Don't go trying to save a few kg. Reliability and performance all the way! 😊

      Been riding a rail 9 since it first came out. It’s a great do everything bike. And agree about the Bosch, I ride mostly in the E setting and just let it do its thing. I have never ran out of battery. I have made two mods, a shorter stem (nock block compatible) and carbon fat boy bars. Ah anda bungee around the battery tube. Oh, and I have only broken one spoke. Assegai tyre on the front and minion on the rear. I have screwed in the controller, matching a screw for it from Bunnings.
      I am thinking about mulleting it. But would want the electronics to be updated so the motor doesn’t cut out too soon and all the electric programmes work properly. I think it would fit better in some of the tight radius turns my mates seem to like to ride.

Love the bike and the only issues i have had is a recall/warranty on the front chain-ring which kept popping the chain off (swapped for an FSR) and stem headbearings that were not greased at factory- replaced on warranty. I've had my Rail 7 for a couple of years now and it has been a great eMTB. I"ve no issues with the bike per se, rather with the new generation ergonomic setups/frame dimensions. The issues I do have are related to bike setup vs my height (6'3"/250lbs). However, being tall (especially in the legs), I've been struggling to get a good fit (really on any bike). By the time I got the seat height vs pedal setup right, I'm so far up above the handle bars that all my weight is resting on my hands, which becomes very very uncomfortable pretty quickly, particularly in rough terrain. I've been trying out different handlebar sweep/rise setups, compromising a bit on the seat height, and I feel like I'm getting fairly close to getting it dialed in. I'm considering another handle bar replacement with a bit more rise to get the geometry and ergonomics closer to what it would be for the 'target' 80% of the population physiology. I found the L frame to be more comfortable overall than an XL, having ridden a bike with XL frame and found the new geometries with the extended reach dimension just unworkable.

    I've had a 9.8 XT since 2021. It's handled everything I've thrown at it, though I did go through a motor under warranty.
    Until a few months back, I had no complaints and was full of praise for the bike. Then I got a ride on a friends Santa Cruz Bullit, which was like a faster, silent, magic carpet. Sure, the Trek was a bit lighter feeling, bit more poppy, but the Bullit was just FAST and stayed on line over rooty off-cambers with minimal effort. Meanwhile, the Trek would rattle around a bit and required more effort to stay going where I wanted. Some of it might have been the tyres, the Trek was on the Bontrager SE 5s (a bit pogo stick by comparison), while the Bullit was on DH casing Assegais, but it was a dry day.

Definitely loose motor mounts though, they're spline drive not star but cheap enough to buy the one size you need to re tourqe. The bontrager wheels are made of cheese and the spokes snap every ride. Still a great bike though, probably the best "do it all" on the market

    For all the marketing blurb have ebikes really got that much better in the last 5 years? They are all built around the same few motor/battery combos and the frames are much as a muchness. I'm not anti ebikes I love mine, I have a top end ebike and the same entry level none MTB bike of the same bike. wireless shifters vs £25 derailleur with a cable zero difference, even the 4 pot brakes vs the entry level there's very little difference.
    The Ebike like all Ebikes are a dream on the trails with the heavier unsprung mass and they just absorb the terrain way way better than any other none ebike.

    • @bestdayevermtb2
      @bestdayevermtb2 3 месяца назад

      Generally speaking the higher the number the better. It depends how high end the components you want are. If you simply want to ride around gravel cycle paths then a 5 is all you need. If you want to jump and ride tech and want higher performance then go for a 9. Even a Levo comes in a range of spec and frame options.

    The fork you get fron a trek rail 7 is wortlees a zeb or a fox 38 or ohlins 38. Etc etc etc. but the actual frame is as good as it gets. Playfull fast agile fun easy to ride what else can you ask from an ebike reliable too

      I have reviewed lots of bikes now and it is often difficult to compare one bike to another. Some I get to review are very high spec and some low spec. The bikes with high end suspension and brakes are always going to feel better. The Rail is a great bike and lots of fun. Not sure I would classify as highly reliable. Again, hard to compare as I know so many people with Rails I therefore have heard about lots of issues with the bike. Saying that most bikes have some issues.

    Had a 22 Rail 9.9 XTR for a short time. Solid bike, but I found it uninspiring. It wanted to be an Enduro bike but doesn't have the rear travel. Too much of a plow to be a good trail bike. Very noisy clatter from the Bosch motor.

      I bet the new Wild coming will shred the Rail. I have owned the older alloy Wild FS and the newer Rail. I preferred the Wild to be honest, it's a lot shorter and more nimble feeling. The suspension on the Wild is amazing and is a great bike for max speed runs. Doesn't like to get off the ground and is the opposite of poppy, soaks everything up. I bet the new Wild will be amazing, but for my trails the Levo is better suited. The Wild would come into it's own somewhere gnarlier.

Ive got 2600k on a stock 9 with zero other issues, which cost less than half of an equivalent levo at the time.
