I got my ring cast and returned, a nice big signet ring with my family crest on it, looks so good and professional. Only 70 bucks in total plus 9 bucks for next day shipping. These guys are awesome. Thank you VOG this was such a nice thing.
Yes, think of all the bespoke wedding rings, engagement rings, anniversary gifts, etc, all at a fraction of the cost. It's a marvellous resource, now available to anyone creative enough to use it 😁
I think most companies have been surprised by the concept of amateur clients. Believe me, I've been involved in changing the minds of Castable Resin companies that the average guy IS a good client. Slowly they're realising that this hobby is on the increase and they'll shift their focus accordingly. Well done Rio for being amongst the first 😁
Was that really 150USD for everything? The casting, the silver grain, the manual post processing, and back to you in the UK? If so that strikes me as a very good price.
There's only one way to establish if it's bogus or not and that's to try it. But please, only serious enquiries. If these guys get more hassle than genuine interest, they'll be within there rights to remove the offer. And prices vary... firstly it's mostly about metal price, which goes up and down daily. Second there's postal costs, which are affected by geography. But the service is excellent 😁
@@vogman Oh, I wasn't suggesting it was bogus; more just impressed if that's the price. For a piece of jewellery of that size I think 150USD is very good. The fact it could be a piece of jewellery you've designed yourself is even better.
My pleasure Tony. It was surprisingly hard work for me with no actual reward save one - the thought that this service is now available to those that can really make use of it 😁
Wow - you transformed that very convincing, anatomically correct skull into something really special! And the deal you set up should help lots of people express their creativity in metal.
Thanks Del. Not everyone is as happy as you or I to set fire to their garden and melt down the content of their wife's jewellery box, so having a place they can release their creativity will be terrifically uplifting for them I hope 😁
@@vogman Previously, they could only upload their work to Thingiverse - now they'll be able to hold it in their hand! It's a fine thing you've done here, Goeff.

I could do a fair job, I hope, but you can't beat the hands of an artisan. These guys have forgotten more than I've learned. And don't worry, this won't stop me home casting, but it makes life easier for my viewers who haven't got the facilities some of us do 😁

Great job to you and RioGrande guys😆
Mmmmm solidscape printer.... Would like to get my hands on one of those. Maybe if I get the lottery numbers right, if I do VOG, I might even let you have a play with it.
Big fan of your channel and this is a really cool ring you designed! I'm curious though.. is this casting service not available in the UK ? There are many casting companies here, particularly in Birmingham and I'm wondering if any of them couldn't do this in the UK?
Absolutely there are, and if these other companies want to get in touch with me, I'll gladly make their services known to my viewers. My goal with this video was for those that have no local or even national access to these services. So I found one company that would cater happily to EVERYONE. 😁
There are casting companies in London. I know of at least one. Perhaps as time goes on, if these and more companies get in touch, I can produce a list of services for my viewers. But in the meantime, Rio will help EVERYONE 😁
@@vogman Yeah I am aware of companies in London, but I really love the new jewellery tools that Rio sells, which aren’t available in England, that’s why I wish they had an out let here.
Great video Geoff! Very well explained and what a result mate! WOW! The Optimistic Zombie is worth every dollar... and more. Unless someone already has all the gear to cast themselves, then Rio Grande is a relatively inexpensive option. Plus, you are guaranteed to get a professional result every time! Nice one mate... :)
I’m in the jewellery game, solidscape isnt considered king anymore. High end DLP printers along with a Projet2500 is the go to machines. In terms of casting platinum, nothing beats an Asiga with Superwax
If you're UK based and want some great quality casting done I highly recommend Black Arts Casting based in Newcastle. They do great quality work and their prices are very reasonable.
Thanks for the share. I'm sure local viewers will appreciate that. Similarly if there are any other companies out there, whether in Newcastle or the jungles of Brazil that are happy to take on small projects for folks like us, then they are welcome to contact me. I'll do my best to compile a list for my viewers to access 😁
@@vogman great well I've also been told by a jeweller friend of mine that Jewellery Casting Scotland Ltd are very good as well with a very fast turn around and a talent for challenging casting jobs.
Hey great content like always! Do you have a walkthrough on how to build that bottom layer so the models can stick better to the build plate? I remember watching it a while back but can’t find it. Thank you!
Gosh this is amazing. And congrats! You're a great designer, Im not surprised they wanted to sell your ring, it is really cool. It was fun to watch how they made it as well. Many many thanks for speaking to Rio on our behalf. I'm wondering if this is the route I should take as a newbie. I need to hire someone to 3D build my sketches as well. Sometimes it's daunting to take a plunge into an unknown world but I'm just so dang tired of my average normal life you know? Call me crazy but I'd rather be broke than bored 😂. Also, I upped my tier to a bite 🍔. You've been such a great help with really great content.
Thanks Lea. These sort of outsourcing solutions are exactly how most small jewellery designers get started. You can sell without having to worry about manufacture, and as these are handmade, you don't need to commission a piece until after you've got an order. It minimises financial risks and opens up a market for you. As regards 3D design, consider doing this yourself. It's daunting at first but possible. If I can do it, anyone can. Right now I'm working on a FreeCAD tutorial for absolute beginners. I'm a bit nervous actually... it's something different for me. But anyway, this is the start. In a few weeks I'm hoping to be able to demonstrate jewellery design, all with free software. And thanks for the tier upgrade. It's truly appreciated. Remember as a Patron you have my ear at any time, so ASK questions. I'll help if I can. For instance, knowing a little more about your sketches might enable me to guide you towards software options... ultimately empowering you and hopefully saving money. 😁😁😁
@@vogman Thanks Vog! Looking forward to the tutorials. Minimizing risk is prudent too. I have no idea if my designs will sell afterall. Should I share my sketches with you via email?
What about larger items of questionable Intellectual Property? Something tells me I'm still in the market for some casting gear. Thanks for all the great resources!
No doubt buddy, but we're not all in London. Many of my viewers have NO access to local or even National casting companies. These are the ones that write to me regularly asking for help. It's for them I put 6 months of effort into this project... and I hope by doing so they can benefit from the type of services you and I take for granted 😁
Hey I'm a sculptor working in 3D printing and REALLY want to get into jewellery sculpting and casting in the future, I'd love to chat about potentially collaborating with you for some videos if you're interested!
I will be pouring my men's ring designs soon. They are targeted towards aircraft pilots and must contain *aircraft aluminum* I will offer gold and silver. Nordic Gold has aluminum, so we're good there. I need a silver composition that contains aluminum. German Silver doesn't have aluminum... and my kiln only goes to 2350F... not enough for Nickel. Regards Nordic Gold: Copper 89, Aluminum 05, Zinc 01, Tin 01 German Silver: Copper60, Zinc 20, Nickel 20
Aluminum and silver don't mix well. That is why such an alloy is difficult to find. If you get even a few specs of aluminum dust into your silver it can destroy the whole batch, creating crystal structures that just can't be worked into jewelry anymore. It gets brittle, grainy, and falls apart. Having said that...you can go the opposite way around. You can add silver into aluminum with no ill effects. You need like 90% alum and 10% or less silver though...so you can't really advertise it as a silver piece. Your best bet is probably to cast the ring in sterling and inlay pieces of aluminum, instead of alloying them together.
You never cease to amaze. Thank you for making this incredibly useful service available to your loyal subscribers!
Thank you very much Daniel 😁
