I can't pick a favorite among the first six albums. It depends on my mood.
"Day at the Races" holds the most nostaglia because the first time i saw Queen live was in support of that record. Changed my life!
Still might be the my most cherished concert experience. They might have been even better for the News of the World" tour, but nothing like having your mind blown by a legendary band live for the first time.

I was extremely lucky to see Queen on their Crazy tour of London in 1979,they did only very small venues the gigs I was at was at Alexandra Palace in North London, probably 2,000 - 3,000 and a Dance hall in Tottenham again North London called the Mayfair which was more locally known as the Royal which capacity must have been only a few hundred , but was packed , absolutely 2 of the best gigs I ever saw , the next time I saw them was their very last gig at Knebworth, Status Quo supported , about 100,000 there !

Great show chaps. My two favs:
    1. Sheer Heart Attack
    2. Jazz
I got on the Queen train with Now I'm Here which I bought the single with my "pocket money" in 1975. Up to that point Slade were my favs but we're on a downward trajectory and Queen filled the void. Jazz had Mustapha with blistering guitar from Brian plus the "poster" for the teenage lad to look at! My worst two:
    1. Hot Space
    2. A Kind Of Magic
There 80's catalogue to me was spotty, plenty of good stuff but to me was a vehicle for Freddie. Your comparison to Quo Steven was spot on. Once the NWOBHM broke they took a bit of a back seat for me. My wildcard is The Works. I wanted to give some love to the 80's material.

Nice one, Steven. I received Sheer Heart Attack as a Christmas present in 1974 and was one of the first dozen LPs that I owned. I loved it. Even the (and I use several quotation marks here) filler is fantastic but Now I'm Here, Brighton Rock and Lap of the Gods (both versions) are on any playlist that I would make. I saw them live in December 1975 and still cite it as the best gig that I have attended. The later albums have dull moments but there are no Queen records that fail to have at least one fantastic track. (nothing wrong with Under Pressure)

This was a great episode. I was introduced to Queen for the very first time in early 1975 with the album Sheer Heart Attack. The power of that particular album has stayed with me ever since then and it remains my #1 favourite to this day. In the early 80's I started to drift away from Queen as their stylistic changes just weren't doing it for me anymore. That was until 1991, and the release of Innuendo - what a fantastic album - Freddie's swansong - it remains my #2 favourite Queen album. As for my least favourites......they are The Miracle and Hot Space. My Wild Card pick is "News of the World" - their tour of that album was when I caught Queen live in concert in London, UK at the Wembley Empire Pool North Arena in May 1978. Standout songs from that concert for me were "We Will Rock You" and "Bohemian Rhapsody". Freddie was the consummate showman, and Brian May was simply amazing on guitar. One of my fondest concert memories of all time.

For me, "Sheer Heart Attack" is my favorite Queen album. It's got a great mix of the prog metal from the first two albums combined with the fearless experimentation of "A Night at the Opera." I agree with Steven, the cover is bad. Probably Queen's worst cover.
The worst? It's easy to pick on "Hot Space." I don't mind mixed with dance music, so I can listen to "Hot Space" occasionally. But it just isn't a Queen album to me. "Under Pressure" is a great song though.
It's also easy to pick on "Made in Heaven." It's an album of leftovers and filler. It doesn't rock. At all. The only track that's somewhat notable for me is that "Mother Love" was Freddie's final recording. He wasn't even able to finish the song, so when Brian May comes in to sing the third verse, it always makes me tear up a little.
I also gotta agree that "Innuendo" is a very special album. It's so much better than it has any right to be, given Freddie's declining health. The title track and "The Show Must Go On" are just triumphant. But the rest of the album is just so delightful. Talk about going out swinging!

My wild card: the 1973 BBC version of “See What a Fool I’ve Been”, as remixed for the bonus disc of the 2011 Queen II remaster. The version they released on the b-side of “Seven Seas of Rhye” is accurately called a “spoof” in the liner notes of that CD - but the BBC version is the real deal. It’s Queen playing the blues, more or less, and I think it’s awe-inspiring. Freddie’s vocal is outstanding - he shows off all his vocal devices, but he also locks in and sings it pure and high. And Brian May, double-tracked throughout, goes from playing harmonies with himself, to soloing over his own rhythm guitar, to playing two solos at once, and it’s fantastic. It’s an amazing track, it’s as heavy as the first album, and for me it’s THE hidden gem in the Queen catalog. I just can’t get enough of it.

Great trip down memory lane. For a time in the mid-70s Queen were my favourite band. Killer Queen was one of the 1st singles I bought & Night at the Opera was one of the 1st albums. I spent many any evening with my mates Clive , Guy & Daniel arguing which was the best Queen album, song or band member. We did this right up to & including The Game. I saw them 3 times with Freddie - Wembley Arena 1980, Milton Keynes 1982 & Wembley Stadium 1986. I saw them on the Queen + Paul Rogers tour in 2005, & I’ve seen & really enjoyed Queen + Adam Lambert twice. The best was at the Isle of Wight festival in 2016. (the other headliners were the Who & Stereophonics). Anyway with the preambles out the way my top 2 are: News of the World & Night at the Opera. I really don’t like Hot Space & never did, but I find it hard to criticise a band that at its height decided to experiment. Simon’s comparison to Spandau Ballet is interesting as listening to it last week it reminded me of Soft Cell, Human League etc. My other one is A Kind of Magic. Not a bad album, just not as good as the others. My Wild Card is the RUclips clip of Queen at Live Aid. I must watch it at least once a month. What a comeback performance & if anyone wants to know why Queen are so brilliant - watch this!

I think most Queen fans would put "Hot Space" dead last with "Made In Heaven" not that far behind. It's way more difficult to put the best albums in order. Number one for me personally will always be "News Of The World" though. Mainly because it was the first Queen album i ever heard and because it was so different to all the other music i was listening to at that time. It was my initial spark to explore into the depth of progressive music.

A real challenge for sure. I'd have to go with Queen 2, and Jazz as my favourites. Queen 2 could make it for March Of The Black Queen alone. I went with Jazz cos that was my entry point, singles aside. Love Mustapha, Bicylce Race, Fat Bottom Girls, and especially Dead On Time. Least favourites would be Hot Space and The Game. Wild card is Live Killers, not perfect but has a lot of energy. Great show guys. P.s. don't mind Delilah myself.

Fav two: Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack.
Bottom two: The Miracle and Flash Gordon (Simon pretty much spoke my own thoughts on the former; Even though I don't hate it, the album just never did enough for me to rank it highly.)
I got such pleasure from watching Simon's show and tell! We all knew what was coming with Hot Space; Have to admit Simon had me laughing so hard with his comments on it. I like the album, even though it falls within the bottom five in my rankings of Queen's catalogue.
Was surprised to see Steven rank The Game in his bottom two. Didn't expect that one at all. Agree about "Delilah" from Innuendo, but I admit my love for "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" from SHA. Most certainly agree with what was said about A Kind of Magic.
Simon, say what about Led Zeppelin? Hahahaha!

@@TranquilityFireReid Hot Space (the most obvious), Made in Heaven, Flash Gordon, perhaps even A Kind of Magic -- those are the main suspects for 'least fav'. The Game is usually among the higher-ranked albums in Queen's catalogue; It's not an album I can immediately recall hearing/seeing listed at the bottom of these ranking lists for this band. That's probably why it came as such a big shock (To be fair, you did give us the 'contrarian' warning, lol.) The overplayed singles? Yeah, I can understand that. Oh, forgot to mention my thoughts on "Don't Try Suicide"; That's probably my least fav on the album - the lyrics are sheer cringe.

I was really excited to get Made In Heaven because I expected more!
As a massive Queen fan, I have a ton of tracks that are unreleased, etc. This album is just a bunch of tracks that every Queen fan already had in one way or another. Several were on Mr Bad Guy. One was a B-side from The Miracle. Beautiful Day was an outtake from The Game.
There are only a few songs that were completely unheard - Let Me Live (which was recorded in 1983), Mother Love and Winter's Tale which were recorded post-Innuendo in 1991, and You Don't Fool Me which might as well have been released on Hot Space.
One of the biggest let-downs in history. It could have been a farewell EP with 4 or 5 tracks. The other stuff was redundant!
PS - If you turn up the fade-in on Scandal from the Miracle album, Freddie is singing Delilah... he apparently loved that cat!!
Top 2 Best: Innuendo and Queen II
Top 2 Worst: Hot Space and Made In Heaven
Wildcard: The Miracle and A Day At The Races are both excellent. Cosmos Rocks and Flash don't count as far as I'm concerned. I don't care about Wembley '86 because Freddie's voice was crap and the setlist felt uninspired. I can go on about Queen for days... but I'll leave it here for now. ;)

This is awesome. Queen has been a favorite of mine for quite some time. I was like some of the guys in this video. I got in with the hits albums and then started buying the individual albums. While I can see why their hits albums have sold so many copies, the actual albums have a lot of good stuff. The 70's stuff is amazing. The 80's stuff has some very amazing moments (and some duds) the two from the 90's are very good; yes I like Made In Heaven (Pete, this isn't shit, lol) quite a bit as well.
Queen II is my favorite at this point. Nothing weak from top to bottom. Probably, A Night At The Opera is second favorite, or split with Sheer Heart Attack. A wildcard for me is A Kind of Magic because it has some terrific rockers like Princes of the Universe and Gimme The Prize. Worst is still Hot Space, but unlike everybody in the video, I do like Cool Cat, Put Out The Fire, and I like the bass and funk on Backchat. Body Language and Calling All Girls is all kinds of meh, but whatever.
With this band, it is almost impossible to pick favorites, and their live stuff (you can find on RUclips) is absolutely fantastic. Great band and one of the best rock bands ever; and this coming from a major heavy metal/death metal/classic metal fan. Pete I do agree with you that Queen left a lot on the table by releasing Hot Space, in the US at least. These guys were MASSIVE around the world, but they kind of lost a lot of market in the US. They are also quite famous for breaking South America (and infamous for breaking in apartheid South Africa). They played to like 400000 people at those Rock in Rio shows, and they had this other "little" band that became quite massive, supporting those shows called Iron Maiden \m/ \m/ Actually, Maiden had gotten pretty big by that point, but still. Both bands rock and Freddie will always be missed.

I think that Steven is forgetting that Glam rock was in vogue during the early part of Queen’s career hence the album design for Sheer Heart Attack
I remember fondly that the design didn’t look out of place on its release .
I first saw Queen on Old Grey Whistle Test tv show : And I was hooked from there on seeing them at Hammersmith Odeon in 75 when Bohemian Rhapsody and A Night at the Opera had just made number one
I saw them again in 76 when they played a free concert at Hyde Park ,London
My last time seeing them was when they played Knebworth , the last UK gig with Freddie
I’ve since seen Queen with Adam Lambert at The 02
I know this lineup is a bit marmite with Queen fans ,but I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the lighting ,sound and production was amazing .

Sheer Heart Attack - A few good songs but I've rarely been convinced when Queen decide to metal it up.
Innuendo - Not a disaster but only Bijou rises above "good"
    Favourites:
A Kind Of Magic - Got into Queen with this album when a mate of mine persuaded my to go and see them in concert in Manchester (with Status Quo & Belouis Some in support). What an adventure for a teenage country bumpkin! Went home, bought this album and loved it!
A Day At The Race - The strongest of their Seventies album, from start to finish, at least for me. A lot of stand out tracks and far fewer of the clunkers that tend to blight the others
    Wildcard:
Hot Space - Not my favourite but a fun set of songs nonetheless. I liked the change of pace (following John Deacon's vision as much as Freddie's) & think it informed quite a bit of their music going forward, so an important release for those of us (maybe just me 🙂) who prefer the Eighties era of the band.

It's also Old Queen meets new Queen. Some tracks that could be on previous work and some others that preface what they will do in future albums.
