Here's a tip for you - When you are adding the refrigerant add it slowly and take the reading when you close off the can. The get the maximum cooling you want the gauge to read a running pressure of 30psi to 36psi - This in tern is while the compressor is running . The psi reading can also be referenced to the actual temp coming out of the Evaporator so 30F is 0C { less is more}.. This means the lower the psi the colder the return temp will be coming from the evaporator back to the compressor. And colder air from your vent in the vehicle. But keep in mind not to go too low or the safety cut out will engage. The higher the pressure the warmer the temp will come out of the vents in your vehicle {40psi} = 10* meaning degrees. Then you need to do a static reading by shutting off the car and let the system stabilize after 5 to 6 minutes restart the engine and see what the gauge reads. you need the gauge to read 30 to 32 while the compressor is running that is the sweet spot and the coldest air that the Evaporator can produce. Adding more refrigerant if its low yes continue to fill but any thing out side the 30 to 36 psi range is going to work against you and the system will be less effective.
