Lidl has started opening up stores in the Mid Atlantic states, from Maryland down through Georgia. I do 90% of my food shopping at either Aldi or Lidl. Both have such great prices.
Our Aldi has much of the same stuff. I have tried some things that are great, but some that are awful and gross. It's a case-by-case basis. But it's still a savings if you just buy the stuff you like.
My new Aldi is in North Orange County is So Cal and I am in love ! I save so much on basics, such as condiments, canned veggies, eggs, bread and other baked goods, chips, cakes and brownie mixes, etc. etc. Oh ....don't forget the produce. It's worth stopping by to check it out and take home the savings !
My wife and I recently retired and Aldi's is a life saver if you have a limited income. Not that we do, but with everything else inflated to the max, it's nice to know that we can save a few dollars on groceries and the other things they sell. I mentioned to my wife that since I had all this time on my hands and am diabetic, I would like to bake my own bread and a few goodies using unsweetened jams and jellies but all we have is a small hand mixer. I looked at large 5qt mixers and the prices ranged from 169.00 up to 399.00,. She found a Sunbeam 5 qt for $50 .00 at Aldi'a and gave it to me for xmas.
@Brigitte Groetzinger food seems more expensive here in Western Australia , I am grateful that Aldi's came here , it gives competition to stores like Woolworth , Their prices go up when its a holiday long weekend , we get lots of out of town visitors On those weekends . One Easter weekend my neighbour paid $5.AUD for a lettuce . I live about 80 kilometers south of Perth in a small city , named Mandurah , its on the coast of the Indian Ocean , beautiful place to live .
Aldi products are made by well-known companies, but their names are not printed on the packages Instead you will find printed: "produced for ALDI..... For example: some ALDI chocolate bars in Germany are made by Lindt or Ferrero...Or ALDI butter cookies are made by Leibniz....
My favorite grocery chain. You can save a little more by either bringing your own boxes or bags instead of buying them there , or if you forget your bags, you can get any of the empty boxes to put your groceries in. Also the prices are usually lower.
I go to Aldi on occasion, too. One nice thing to do, especially in the winter, is to hand your cart to another walking in. It's a quarter for God's sake...pay it forward
+happy nanny God Bless you You witness Lord Jesus Christ in your daily walk ! The food you cook tastes better with your love I bet ! Go in peace to love and serve the Lord, Sister Love ! Amen.
The meat is high quality and basics like milk and eggs are great prices. But sometimes the produce is sold in such large quantities and I am by myself.
Im in Australia and we have a couple of Aldi,s that are near me .We have a local joke that says... you go into Aldi for a carton of eggs.. and come out with a ...generator.. a one man canoe and a couple of power tools .When you get home you realise you forgot to get the eggs
Our Aldis is 2 blocks away. Always busy, but if you go when they first open it’s not too bad. It’s the first place we shop. Great prices on almond milk, eggs, snacks, stevia etc. You can’t get everything there, but the bulk of necessary items.
In the UK we've had trolleys (shopping carts) that take coins for years. Most of the super stores (super markets) have them. It amazes me that it hadn't caught on in the states earlier.
They have been around here in the states for a really long time but the only store that uses the idea is Aldi because of the company owner being so cheap and not wanting to employ someone to do the job of cart returning. There's so many things wrong about the Aldi food company that makes them the most horrible employers here in the states.
Wish we would get one in Albuquerque, New Mexico!! One was 5 minutes down the road from me in Atlanta and I really miss it!!! Great prices, good selection, specials on things that you can use for your house, and my favourite is the selection of some German food items!!!! Military brat and soldier stationed in Germany and miss the food!!! And the great prices!!
A new site opened up in Marshallton, Delaware which is not far from me. I love that site; I started out at the Elkton, Maryland site. A former coworker turned me on to Aldi
I love Aldis for certain things...bananas, sliced mushrooms, vadella onions, carrots, oranges ect. ect....try the Butter Pecan ice cream, you will love it...it's the best.
Love this store! So many people try to act boujee because they think aldi is cheap products cuz they’re not all the national brands. They taste identical and are almost half the price of those famous brands. Go ahead and spend double at those big stores just to have the expensive stuff getting dusty on your cupboards hahaha
Ever since they started renovations, prices started rising. I know because I've been shopping at Aldi for years and always price compare between all the local stores in my area. Aldi used to be my one stop shop for most items, then get what I couldn't get at Aldi elsewhere, but now I have to track everything I buy because all the other stores are starting to compete with Aldi. Always be a cautious consumer. Aldi may have always been the cheapest place to shop, but it's no longer true.
True. After our Aldi renovated, prices went up quit a bit. I ended up going back to Walmart to get some basics, and they (Walmart) are currently cheaper.
We just got an Aldi in our town and at first the prices were very reasonable and then after awhile they started going back up. They still are reasonable on certain things and they have store brands that I am not familiar with so I hesitate on buying them because of the quality. I still go to my favorite store though. Our store isn't really that busy.
There are a few things I won’t buy. However, most items are great. Graham Crackers at $1.49 are great. Their cereal is a great buy. Frozen foods are also. Eggs , biscuits and bacon are a good buy. Appleton Farms bacon is excellent. I could go on and on .
Batavia Illinois is the US Aldi's HQ (also home to Fermilab) I used to buy bread for $.25 a loaf now the same bread is $.85 a loaf. The prices have gone up along with the way they are marketing their business to a more affluent shopper. Also they never sold alcohol but do now. They are owned by the Albrecht brothers from Germany, One owns Aldi the other Trader Joe's.
Actually, a lot of Aldi brands are just relabeled well known brands. Like ice cream, joghurts and such, these are actually often major brand products, sold under the Aldi label.
Aldi's in Dallas has great prices, interesting delicious food, and cheap varying household items....I always go there first then to Walmart for everything else
Maybe not. They (Aldi) don't sell your fancy French food items. And the buyers in Berlin don't know about good Cajun Cooking and spices. Maybe one bottle of Hot Sauce per store only. And German people don't know a Beignet from a Bismarck. You would have to teach them what Louisiana Folks like to eat. Down Home Cooking ! Hope they discover Baton Rouge ! Cheers !
I really like Aldi stores. They have almost everything that I need. I know how to bake and pick up prescriptions at a drive through drug store. I am thrilled there will soon be a new store near me in NC. Then everything I normally buy when I go out will be on the same gallon of gas. I cook my own bread. So I do go to Costco for a 50# bag of bread flour and gasoline. I am surprised just thinking about this. How much my shopping habits have changed the last few years.
Why do Americans have a problem with putting money in to get a shopping trolley, in Ireland we don't call it renting, we put the money end and don't think anymore about it most our big supermarket's have same policy you pronounce it All d you pronounce it all dee
Part of the reason carts don't have deposit locks on American carts at most stores, is because most grocery stores are union. Unions are all about preserving as many jobs as they can. As for pronunciation, you have to understand, that not every part of the world pronounces Aldi the same way. Not even all Americans pronounce it the same way. While you didn't mention bags, but most grocery stores provide bags, because most Americans are still not used to the idea of bringing their own bags to the grocery store. Except for Aldi, Ruler Foods (Kroger's no frills grocery store, like Aldi), & most Save-A-Lot stores, grocery stores don't charge extra for bags, because they have the price per bag built into the price of their goods. There are a few municipalities that have enacted laws, that mandate stores to charge per bag, which instead of going back to the store, but goes back to the local government. I don't know how that works out for Aldi in a city like Chicago, since Aldi already charges for bags. Before 1992, Aldi USA didn't even offer bags to customers. There are a few stores that have bagging service, & will give a customer credit for each bag they reuse, whether reusing paper or plastic bags, or using reusable bags. My local Strack & Van Til gives customers US 5¢ credit for each bag they reuse. It isn't much, but it encourages customers to reuse their bags.
I have problems with it. Because i worked as a trolly pusher during my university times and got good money from getting them back from the parking lot. It was 12 Deutsch Mark which was 25 years ago and today would compares to US$ 15. So lets stone the guy who invented this to death.
As far as i know this was introduced to Germany in the 80th and if i am not completely wrong by Aldi. The funny thing was after a short time the customers even liked it, because before you had allways some carts between the parking cars and of course allso damaging them. That was allso the time shopping bags became a non free item.
We have Aldi here in Australia,it's been here about 15 years. The other big retailers in the area have matched many of the prices so there is no reason to shop there so much.
The point of aldi is that the stock, and don't restock until it runs out. On a Thursday I can go to the shop near my work and its almost empty, but the point is thar everything goes
After shopping at Aldi, I hate paying high costs of everything in a supermarket. Aldi is also a great place for plant-based eaters. The only problem is that they don't have certain items at certain stores, so I wind up having to go to a supermarket.
Why charge for use of the shopping cart? (Like at the airports). Use of the trolley ought to be a bonus for any shopper. It's not like the shopper goes home with the trolley. Use of the trolley is not charged - here. Neither at the airports. 👀 Well, organized store. 👌
+Irish Rosa It is not fair to the rest of us that Ireland gets the "Deluxe Aldi" with an in-store bakery Maybe that was a requirement of your President for them to build in Ireland. But you still make your own soda bread I pray. And shepherd pie. Cheers !
Hier zijn ze kleiner. Het is wel heel erg stressvol om in te werken. Sinds de verhuizing kom ik er weer vaker. Scheelt toch een hoop. Haal er niet alles.
Last time I ate Aldi brand food it was so gross. And the produce went bad after only a couple days! idk I haven’t been there in about a year so maybe the quality has changed. I’m from Texas and HEB is the store to go to 🥰
For fresh meats, check expiration dates and color of the meats!....recently got a spareribs that was best by 4/22 (it was still on the shelf 4/29 when i got it), it was rancid when i opened it (was vaccum packed so i didn't notice it when i got it)...had to freeze the whole thing then return it for a refund... and the cucumbers are often bruised and moldy.
In Australia ALDI's vegetable selection has deteriorated badly in the last few years. Poor quality vegies at high prices. Fortunately their other grocery items are generally much cheaper than our other major retailers.
Most of all these products are name brand just with their name on it I always get a hummus there this week we try to chocolate hummus absolutely delicious and it is always worth going down the aisle for miscellaneous items I bought a sewing machine at a great price
They're working on getting expanded to the west. They made the mistake of focusing on the midwest for more than 20 - 25 years, before expanding to the east. I have family in Arizona who wish that Aldi were there, because they're originally from Indiana. I've been going to Aldi since they first opened in 1979 local to me. They were a bare bone store back then, & bags weren't available until 1992 local to me. Until 2004 local to me, cashiers had to memorize the prices of everything, because nothing had price tags on them back then. I don't understand why Aldi waited so long, when in the early to mid 80's, ther own products already had the multiple barcodes on them. I always wondered why there so many barcodes, until they got scanners. The multiple barcodes are there, so cashiers don't have to look for the barcode, to scan each item (that isn't the case for the few brand name products they carry). To prevent double scanning, they have a one second delay to prevent double scanning. It would be 1999 or 2000 before they accepted debit cards and electronic food card payments (they always accepted the former food stamps in paper form). It was this year that they finally accepted credit cards and Apple & Samsung Pay tap services. They however still don't accept checks to this day.
No, not Washington State ! You people got Costco already ! And your Costco parking lots are full of Canadian Cars buying your cheap milk. You want to cause that traffic jam at Aldi? No way. Anyway Aldi Trucks with their 4 cylinder Volkswagon engines cannot make it over the Rocky Mountains. Too high elevation. That is why they have not expanded in the West. The mountains in Indiana are just high enough for their trucks to pass. Now you know the scientific reason. You got the Space Needle and Micro Soft you don't need Aldi too! Just Kidding Renee Jenks ! Berlin knows Bill Gates so they probably will expand to Washington State. You will like their stores but size wise they are only one sale section at Giant Costco. But you walk less. That is good. Cheers ! I have native American relatives near Seattle and the casino. My rich relatives !
Our Aldi is not close to anywhere. There produce goes bad in 2 days and I can get more for my money elsewhere. It's $8.99 a bag for frozen chicken at Aldi (5 pieces in the bag) and I pay $6.99 for 14 pieces elsewhere.
I remember when I was a young boy in the 1960‘s and I went into our local German Aldi (Nord in our area) for the first time. At that time the shops really looked like a warehouse. Everything was stacked on pallets, signs with name of product and prices hung from the ceiling. They only offered the basics of basics, no advertising, no brands at all Everything plain and simple. Sugar, salt, flour, matchboxes. Some canned food too, some other basic items everybody needed. I really was disappointed. Nothing fancy, nothing a boy longed for, no cool stuff at all. Only simple, plain stuff every household needed, in plain boring packaging. That was how they started. It took very long until they moved to bar codes and scanners, electronic cash registers. Up until then every cashier had to remember a three digit code for every different item. Yes, they stocked less than a thousand different products for a very long time. And those cashiers were very fast indeed, punching in the codes as fast as other shops scanned them. Shopping at those times was far from an event, it was pure necessity, you only went when you had to, and bought what you needed to buy. That is how they started their business. One thing however is the same today: they always tried to keep prices down, tried always to be cheaper than their competitors. Though competition is fierce they mostly are indeed cheaper. Not every item, not all the time. But mostly they succeed. In Germany their competitors are fighting hard, especially Lidl, Rewe and Edeka (and the“cheap“ daughter companies of Rewe and Edeka, Penny and Netto).
It always amazes me that with such a small staff, the stores are always clean, well stocked and staff is pleasant and ready to help.
Thats what happens when you do quality over quantity when hiring and also when you don't spend a ton of manpower to supply ten different brands and taking stuff out of boxes before you shelve them.
The store was a mess when I went
Depends on the area and people. The one in Victoria Texas has bathrooms that would shame a truck stop. I guess they hired lazy people.

Prices have deff gone up on some things but you can still find good bargains.
Aldi please come to Phoenix AZ. I miss you. Used to shop Aldi in OK
I wish Amarillo Texas had one but I don't think we do
We’ve had Aldi here in Chicago for many years
Why charge for use of the shopping cart? (Like at the airports).
Use of the trolley ought to be a bonus for any shopper. It's not like the shopper goes home with the trolley. Use of the trolley is not charged - here. Neither at the airports. 👀
Well, organized store. 👌
you are noyt being charged you recover the money when you put it back
A quarter for the cart? We have to put in 2 euro! lol
yeah but in the US there aren't any coins higher than a quarter that are widly available
European Patriot no we have dollar coins. You never seem em?
@@UmarFarooq-yx7rw Well sure but those are pretty rare aren't they?
@@Someone-cd7yi most people don't like to carry tonnes of coins, paper is easier
the aldis in Ireland do have a fresh bread and cakes etc they have a store bakery
+Irish Rosa It is not fair to the rest of us that Ireland gets the "Deluxe Aldi" with an in-store bakery Maybe that was a requirement of your President for them to build in Ireland. But you still make your own soda bread I pray. And shepherd pie. Cheers !
In Denmark all the Discount stores have "bake off.
My aldi’s sales eggs for 21 cents a dozen, a gallon of milk for 2.99, and more deals!
grocery store here eggs 1.18 but a gallon milk is like 1.50
Aldi has been here in denmark like many many many years before i was born and im 26
I grew up with Aldi's, 1995!
Damn aldi is everywhere. I always thought it was only in the netherlands
Lidl too.
In the netherlands we got the same aldi
Hier zijn ze alleen een stuk kleiner
I hope one in Zeeland. Hallo !. We have two Aldi's in Holland, Michigan USA Ich liebe Netherlands und die Leute !
I’m from Texas and HEB is the store to go to 🥰
That ALDI store is much much bigger than the one I shop in.
Come to Toronto!
It's my favorite store here in Denmark. 🇩🇰
Like anything else, do your research and know your prices. Some things are hit or miss at Aldi, but overall Aldi is a WINNER!!
I love Aldi
We don't have one here in Georgia I wish we did it cuz I miss mine in Texas
For fresh meats, check expiration dates and color of the meats!....recently got a spareribs that was best by 4/22 (it was still on the shelf 4/29 when i got it), it was rancid when i opened it (was vaccum packed so i didn't notice it when i got it)...had to freeze the whole thing then return it for a refund... and the cucumbers are often bruised and moldy.
I like how they pronounce it " allD" in Australia we say "ald"
We love Aldi in the UK it has good quality items and is at least 15% cheaper than Asda.
I save so much money shopping at Aldi. I have no problem with the food they sale.
In Australia ALDI's vegetable selection has deteriorated badly in the last few years. Poor quality vegies at high prices.
Fortunately their other grocery items are generally much cheaper than our other major retailers.
Need to open one in South Louisoana.
Wished an Alid would come to Northern Utah
It's pretty popular in Lebanon too!
Most of all these products are name brand just with their name on it I always get a hummus there this week we try to chocolate hummus absolutely delicious and it is always worth going down the aisle for miscellaneous items I bought a sewing machine at a great price
need one in Washington state
They're working on getting expanded to the west.
Why aldi didn't come to canada:((
Our Aldi is not close to anywhere. There produce goes bad in 2 days and I can get more for my money elsewhere. It's $8.99 a bag for frozen chicken at Aldi (5 pieces in the bag) and I pay $6.99 for 14 pieces elsewhere.
Cindy Cook I would like too know where you get 14 peices of chicken elsewhere for $6.99???

@@nuttybar9 I have never heard of that grocery chain must be west coast? Thanks
It's in Ohio.

Aldi is an excellent store.
I wish there was an Aldi near me in Tylertown Ms.
Every time I go in there! They always have only two people working and a huge long ass line! It’s becoming a regular Walmart in there!
Yup! That's why i don't go in Aldi because of the high traffic. Always fucking crowded!
None of these prices are in our aldis here in kentucky. Our aldis meat is sky high. There are slso no such thing as crackers for 75cents.
Aldi Stores here in Texas don't have those cheap prices never have since they opened here
Love Aldi fresh organic less expensive
2:24 the pizza in germany is only half the size. ☹
