Very nice tutorial showing most important secrets of animating link chain. Thanks a lot for this tutorial, I followed all it's steps one by one to solve my design. If it possible.. showing the equation of animation (script) more clearly.

@pols1985 : I do think that the number of chain parts is correctly calculated. The main point here is the adjustement of the chain path is not really greatly made. Here, the path has a static shape but in reality, you should make the shape more flexible and/or add a 3rd gear to adjust the chain softness.
Hey! Thanks this is great help! However groups of my segments/pods have been rotated by 90 degrees? If I move the segments around the spline the segments rotate 90 degrees at these points. I'm not sure why, when yours came out fine? Cheers!
@JoeLaFrite007 Ah that appears to have fixed it! Strange...The only problem now is half of the segements are facing inwards and the others are facing outwards. Thanks for your responce!

@direktorukraini : Just because you did your path in top view ;-) Once everything is set, you can easily rotate the whole stuff to the direction you want ;-).

Does not help. I'm still having twisting because Spline IK up nodes are fucking horrid at this shit. Either way, you shouldn't rig chains like this with bones, which is a fucking pain for me, because my lecturers for some fucking reason demand it.
can you help me out. i have a specieal driver gear and in one of the four 90 degree quadrants there are four teeth. it contacts the spinner gear once every rotation. also the spinner gear should only spin 180 degrees then stop until the teeth get back around. any help would be appreciated.

@meshtools : maybe the path as not been drawn in top view ? I had the same problem by drawing in front view.

I also have the parts flipping - tank tracks, but same concept. The solutions I've found online do not work. The track sections insist on flipping.

My chain is twisting badly also banking bad, i turn off bank and mess with twist start and end nothing works help pls!
