Flashback from volume 1, Blake reading a book about a man with two souls, now you know who is at the center of this story.
The story of Weiss and her evolution remains one of the things that I love about this show and why I love this character so much. When we think back to the Weiss of volume 1, who was so proud to be a Schnee and her company, we see how much she was only a facade formed by years of brainwashing by her father.
For the part with Qrow and Ruby against Tyrian, not much to say, except "what's your favorite fairytail?" is what Ozpin say to Pyrrha before telling her about the maidens ect. Also, after Tyrian injured Qrow, we have a shot on his face where his eyes are purple instead of the usual yellow, it's a sign that he's using his Semblance, even if it is never clearly said in the series what it consists of. And otherwise, Ruby saying "this is my fight too" gives me a little chill every time. I love the way Lindsay play Ruby so much that some of her lines remain my favorites from the show.

  • @marieporter9488
    @marieporter9488 Год назад +21

There’s a theory that explains why Tyrian just let Qrow walk over to his weapon. Many scorpions have poor sight and rely on sounds to know their surroundings. Tyrian likely has poor eyesight. That’s why he didn’t see Qrow getting ready to become the Catch These Hands Huntsman, (plus in a world of crazy weapons, who would expect a regular punch) and why he didn’t attack Qrow until Qrow grabbed his weapon and the handle clicked.
Also Qrow’s punch may have been stronger than it should have been because Qrow could have been putting Aura into the rings on his hands to make them something like brass knuckles (the kids were putting their Aura into the food during the food fight, so it’s not the first time Aura has been put into something that wouldn’t be a weapon if it didn’t have Aura)

@@marieporter9488 Last episode he was pointing at and looking directly at Ren, Nora, Jaune and Ruby, pointed them out even. They were a pretty good distance from him.
I interpret Qrow hitting Tyrian not because Tyrian had Scorpion-like eyesight, but he was just stunned Qrow forwent his weapon and engaged hand to hand (you can tell that because his eyes widened in shock just before Qrow landed the first hit). Most hunters rely too much on their weapons and lack hand to hand as a result. He was caught off guard for a second and was processing wtf just happened when Qrow went to get his weapon. I also say this because of the way Tyrian was growling and looking at the ground, like he was annoyed at himself for falling for such a rookie mistake. Once he heard Qrow grab his weapon he went back to his fighting state.

    • @marieporter9488
      @marieporter9488 Год назад +2

@@DarthDragon007 He didn't necessarily have to see them to know where they were. Ren and Jaune spoke before they really started fighting, and I'm willing to bet it would have been pretty easy to know where Nora was because her weapon is arguably the heaviest and probably weighs down her steps. That would mean the only other person there was the target (Ruby). I don't think he's blind, I think he could probably see blurry shapes and relies on his hearing more than his sight

Also, Bad Luck Charm, the song that played during the Qrow v Tyrian fight, is some of the best music in the show.
And to shed some light on Weiss' situation; the SDC was supposed to go to Winter who is the eldest, following the rules of primogenture, but she gave it up when she joined the military against her Dad's wishes. The burden then passed to Weiss, who made a deal with her father to allow her to go to Beacon AND remain heiress. And her Dad is not a Schnee. He just married into the family and took the Schnee name in order to legitimize himself. And now, after Weiss' outburst at the party, the burden passes to Whitley, the baby of the family. Make of that what you will. 😏

1:47 I somewhat feel you on the Cinder thing, but it's important to note that she is still healing physically from a major injury and literally cannot speak. Some people feel she gets sidelined in this season, and i suppose more screentime couldn't hurt, but personally i think we see enough of her healing journey to get the point across without it getting repetitive or boring. I think it's good that they use the opportunity to introduce other villains instead of rushing/glossing over how the V3 finale affected her just so she can get back in the game.
Sidenote: some might compare it to Yang's season 4 rehab arc and say Cinder should be treated the same but i disagree; Cinder has less growth to do as a character and thus needs less time. I think Cinder gets about the right amount of time dedicated to her healing, while Yang needed more.

No one escapes the abuse of an abusive household. you guys need to cut Whitley more slack. everyone responds to abuse differently.
The three Schnee siblings are actually classic representations of the three most standard responces to trauma. defiant (fight) Weiss stands up against Jaques, Winter (flight) runs away to join the military, and Whitley the youngest, the only target left, can only go along to prevent from being targeted (fawn)
If I can be perfictly the way father wants me to be, he'll have no reason to hurt me.
yeah it seems like a betrayal, but sometimes that is all you can do to defend yourself. And put in that position, you'll do almost anything to keep from being hurt. If you can't tell, I empathize quite strongly with his position.

Why is a hunter who fights Grim a better leader than one who learns to be a leader from birth? Weiss did nothing to deserve this company. Weiss did nothing to get Jacques to choose her as heiress. Her weapon isn't designed for close combat with other humans. A big reason why, most of the time, when we see Qrow fight other people, his weapon is in sword form, not sycthe form. Fact 1: Qrow's line, "What's your favorite fairy tale?", is a nod to Ozpin's conversation with Pyrrha Nikos in "Fall".

I mean, she's never been a pacifist. While it is true that in Season 1, she would specifically use the dull/back side of her weapon to knock out human opponents like with Roman's goons, she was still fighting which I wouldn't say qualifies as being a "pacifist". More along the lines of non-lethal towards humans. But you have to think that she wouldn't hold back against people like Cinder or those working with her because she is fully aware that Cinder was the reason behind both Penny's and Phyrra's deaths. Seeing as Tyrian is in the same crowd as Cinder, it makes sense why Ruby wouldn't hold back against him. Especially when he wounded Qrow.

    - There's more information in the World of Remnant episode about the Schnee Dust Company - but yes, Jacques married into the Schnee family. His original name is Jacques Gelé - pretty much French for "Jack Frost".
    - You'll find that the Schnees exhibit different reactions to abuse. Weiss has gone through "Fight", a reaction of fierce defiance, which had caused her embittered attitude from the beginning of RWBY. Winter chose "Flight", running away to the Atlesian military rather than be anywhere near her father again. And Whitley, by his lonesome, went with "Fawn", acting however he could to appease his father and avoid further pain. The mother has her own response...but we'll get to that later.
    - There's a reason that things around Qrow have been randomly breaking or toppling - which I'll get into next chapter.

One of my favorite parts of this episode is the interaction between Weiss and her Dad. He revokes her claim to the company, he hits her, and above all completely ignores anything she has to say about herself. It isn't explained in the show, but Winter was the original heiress to the company bc she's the oldest. But when she left for the military, her father gave that title to Weiss, essentially cutting Winter out of the family. By removing the title from Weiss, she no longer has any reason to stay at home and, just like Winter, will leave. Now Weiss' family was known very early on in the series to have serious problems, but season 4, 7 & 8 really highlight just how badly those problems have affects all of kids.

Ken is kind on the dot with why Qrow didn't want Ruby in the fight, but more specifically, Tyrian openly stated at the beginning of the fight that he was there to kill Ruby specifically, so it isn't just a "I'd have to split my attention" thing, her being there essentially opens up Tyrian's win condition for this fight

Don't worry, you'll get through the confusion with Volume vs Season. Maybe someday you'll understand why the Episodes are actually called Chapters. Think of it this way... consider RWBY as a book, with multiple 'Volumes'. And within each 'Volume' is a number of 'Chapters' within said book.
Now, I'm not EXACTLY sure why they went with Volume over Season, I'm figuring that it is all tied in with Fairy Tales and books, but that is an educated guess overall. I personally never heard them explain why they went with Volume and Chapters over Seasons and Episodes.
Loved Beth's confused look at Ken around 6:00. Too bad you didn't see it Ken, maybe in editing afterwards? lol
Schnee info will be covered later, mainly in a World of Remnant video first. Additional details later that I will not spoil. Always enjoyed the content... keep it up. :-)

So, the questions you have about Weiss’ family are mostly covered on one of the four V4 WORs you haven’t watched - by this time the show assumes you have seen them.
As for Ruby, the reason she starts getting involved at the end of the fight with Tyrian is because it’s apparent Qrow’s Aura is about to break.
Also, remember Oscar? Recall the book Blake was reading in V1. It was called The Man with Two Souls. They were literally fighting for control of his body. FORESHADOWING.

I know this is old, but like…..I’ve always thought about how Whitley didn’t ever actually do anything wrong. He didn’t even try pushing Weiss to disobey. He was just reinforcing her actions at worst. If he had done otherwise people wouldn’t like him either.
Jacque is the one who made the decision, not him. Sure, his existence is what led to him being able to, but Whitley never actually said or did anything unkind up until this point. I mean that’s literally what they tell you. He’s done nothing but be supportive.
Even if it was in his own interest, I just want to know how people wanted him to act

Weiss' crying on her bed was a bit over dramatic, but considering everything she has been through, I think I would do the same. Not only did she see Beacon fall - her real home - but she saw first hand a lot of people get killed, including some friends. She got separated from her team, people she truly cares about and got sent back to the cold blooded and selfish world she doesn't fit in anymore. She got stuck in her father's clutch again, which she tough she had escaped and after finally getting a taste of real life and freedom, she is now a prisoner. Not to mention she was hit AND randomly dishowned by her asshole of a father. She's alone again with at first no prospect of seeing her real family - team RWBY - again.

I feel like the Weiss crying scene could've been better edited....yes, let her cry, then cut away, then come back....so it's ambiguous how long she cried. When I first watched it seemed like she cried for too short a time and it felt fake. Better editing would've made it flow a little better. The Ozpin/Oscar dialogue drags on kind of long, too. Switching back and forth between Oscar/Ozpin and Jacques/Weiss might've flowed better or at least the more rapid change of scenery would've been camouflage for the long exposition.

So this episode is your first hint that Remnant didn’t have time to fuck around with prejudice like our world did.
Women aren’t expected to take their husbands names. Hell women aren’t expected to take husbands. Children don’t take their father’s. Jacques took his wife’s name because of what he could gain for it. Yang took her father’s but Ruby took her mothers, which I presume is a decision the child gets to make at a certain age?
There’s no sexism, homophobia or skin-tone-based racism. It’s a world where there were beast people, so all the hate was directed at them.

Dont go off too hard on whitley. He may come off as snide, but remember how Weiss was in V1 to EVERYONE unless she wanted something from them like Pyrrha. Despite being in her face about it without actually being in her face about it he really was only supportive of her abd only changes his tone the moment she starts openly accusing him.
Imagine being considered something of a black sheep by your sisters with the only one there for you being the piece of shit dad you cant really rebel against because you have no power like they do. Food for thought but we really are being shown Weiss's perspective and are led to have a feeling of sympathy for her while villifying almost everyone else in her scenes with how its shot. Yes most of them probably do deserve to be seen this way, but how weiss jumps to conclusions after admitting whitley has only been supportive since she came back paints an air of projecting her family resentment on him for what she caused to happen.
