My favorite line from silent hill was "you see them as monsters?" it sent chills down my back because i realized if the character felt differently, saw the world differently this place wouldn't be as much of a threat.
Considering that the speaker was later accosted by a human cultist from a group they used to be part of, it's up to interpretation whether that line is just screwing with you. The ambiguity makes it better, either way.
The Librarian arrives after the Horror is done and dusted, after the unwanted Truths for the ones that where called, after Silent Hill showed what was needed to them, the Librarian arrives. And there is nothing but old forgetting notes, and an eerie silence of Emptiness... (I had an urge to write this out, the Video gave me an small idea. Probably not good, but I enjoy writing it.)
But, there is a story to be told. Recorded, etched in black on grimy yellow, into tomes of tree and skin. Books, I believe the word is. Tales of truth, and of lies, of fear and of passion. Of friends, and of enemies. Of monsters and of madness. Of fog, oh of fog most of all. May you find solace in these old stories, dear reader. May you find solace. And may you find your book in this place.
Since I was a kid and played Silent Hill 2 for the first time, I always wanted to explore the Silent Hill city but without getting scared to hell by eldritch monsters that are far beyond my understanding. I'm glad I can finally do that and I'm even more glad that I can watch Mr. Candleman explore it while I lay comfortably in my bed.
This feels like someone simply ported the maps from the Silent Hill: Alchemilla mod as it's own thing. I have a distinct recollection of the dark room (26:33) being central to a puzzle in that mod.
I think this map has an intended order of exploration for it's story, like how the apartments had a padlock on the window through which you entered. Maybe try and piece together the narrative by thinking of it as a silent hill game with a liner progression through the map?
When I see the world of silent hill (at least in this map) I see "deeply neglected, but still being used, at least recently" and damn if that ain't projection
While you were approaching the Hospital I found myself thinking about Silent Hill Origins, how it was technically my first SH game and how I would never forget the layout of that reception room. And then you walked right into the exact reception room I was thinking about. Silent Hill 2 used red squares for save points, Silent Hill 3 used that circular Halo of the Sun for its save points, but this map seems like a mashup of Silent Hill Origins-1-2-3 all blended together into one huge version of the town WHICH IS AWESOME.
Something I like about Silent Hill is the fact that the town itself is alive, in a sense. A place that just draws in troubled souls who then face their own personal demons and personal Hells. There's little to no malice to it, it's just what it does now ever since a local cult's rituals created the place that it is. Kinda think of it as something similar to the Zone from STALKER. However, the town also appears empty and abandoned for those without any emotional baggage or personal demons, or already had come to terms with and healed from such emotional scarring. Which is also interesting because for most other people the town is an urbex dreamland. So many buildings and homes abandoned and likely little possibility of getting caught by security or police officers.
Out of curiosity, what's your rationale for the monsters in SH1 being visible and hostile to everyone? They're also quite clearly tied to Alessa's traumas and not Harry's, for example, because Harry probably wouldn't be seeing giant bugs (debatable) or hostile school children, or big horrible monsters from fairy tales he'd never read. My best guess is that Silent Hill kind of needs a 'core' to focus its energies. With Alessa extracted (mostly) it can't do much of anything but present a personalized hellscape - so maybe what the cult did was not make Silent Hill into what it is, but try to use it for their own devices. I would buy that the original intent of the place, if such a thing can be ascribed, was to drive people through the worst of themselves so that they can come out the far end better, but the cult trying to manifest a new paradise by actively harming people warped things somehow, leading to the place becoming darker and more predatory.
@@QuantumWaltz If I recall, the detective that Heather encounters in Silent Hill 3, Douglas, similarly ends up seeing the same creatures as her. I think it's an ability that her and Alessa just have where, whether intentional or not, can draw people into their personal Hells and have them see the same creatures that they see.
@@Techhunter_Talon That's a pretty fair assumption given that Alessa is Cheryl is Heather, give or take a reincarnation, but the weirdness in Silent Hill 3 gets stronger when you realize that Harry - who is neither a direct target of Silent Hill nor physically IN Silent Hill - is targeted and murdered by Claudia via a Silent Hill entity. It's cultic meddling again, sure, but Alessa is mostly out of Silent Hill, with only a few fragments left (see: the Dark Alessa boss fight.) If SH2 takes place in the lag-time between SH1 and SH3 while baby Heather grows up, and we assume SH2 to represent the more personalized version of the location's dubious psychiatric care, how did the cult manage to gin up enough energy to reach the mall - also not in Silent Hill - in order to attack Heather and Harry? I could buy that Harry was untouchable until Claudia found Heather again and triggered her powers, I guess. It's also arguable that not everybody is seeing Heather's monsters, because iirc Vincent(?) responds to Heather as if he's seeing things but doesn't consider them monsters. Is he seeing them exactly as we are and just deciding they're angels, or is Silent Hill feeding him something else because Heather is fighting reintegration?
There’s actually a really cool map on VR Chat that’s the entire game of Silent Hill 2. It doesn’t have any of the monsters or enemies, but it has every key and dialogue sequence. It’s actually really cool and I definitely recommend checking it out!
Silent Hill is one of the best video games ever. It’s totally different from other Horror Video Games like Resident Evil and so on. I honestly think that you should have probably tried to do a NoClip of the whole map even if the Fog doesn’t let you see anything or maybe that Jarred Door had a Hidden Secret.
Just a quick FYI, Alchemilla and those sigils are from the first game. Most of this map is based around the premise of the first game from what it seems like. Also the plot for the first Silent Hill game is a bit more literal and less psychological as it revolves around a cult (not by a whole lot though) than the second game in the franchise but I still highly recommend you try it. The games through 1-4 are not directly connected with each other except for 1 and 3.
Dunno if it was truly a reference to the Alchemilla fan game, which is named after the silent hills own alchemilla hospital, but at 5:12 I believe that the map is nodding to the fan game since such sigils were used as the save locations. In silent hill 2, I believe the save locations were just red squares or some variety of that. Great video so far btw!
31:54 the second phone receiver on the side makes me think that phone was meant to be interactive and phase between the two models when pressing use on it.
It’s interesting that you mention how surprising it is that there hasn’t been a silent hill VR game yet, because remember PT? The playable trailer for the silent hill game that would never be? Rumor has it that the final game was going to be for VR, or at least have a heavy emphasis on a VR mode. If true, well, then that’s why we never got one.
Your silly Backrooms tangent at 38:41 made me merge a thought about Silent Hill with a moment from The Magnus Archives: Silent Hill has a serious survivor's bias towards it. We see the stories of the people who have managed to escape the confines of Silent Hill's nightmare as well as the unique manifestations of the nightmare for each of those individuals, but how many stories do we NOT know? How many people have been trapped in Silent Hill by their own unique nightmare realities only to perish and be forgotten? How many unique nightmares will never be known about by anyone?
Normally I don't like intro cards, but this is how it should be done. Brief. Subtle. Unobtrusive. I really dig it. You don't know how many software tutorial intros I've sat through that last more than 30 seconds blasting crappy pop/techno over gaudy animated text and backgrounds just for the video content to be somebody barely speaking English through the built-in webcam mic over the roar of a laptop fan begging OBS to just let it die.
When I first saw the fire escape opposite the hospital I recognised this place. It may have been based on a fan game but this is 100% Silent Hill 1. I hope you get the chance to play it for yourself. The Mall I think is from Silent Hill 3. 😶🎈
I agree with you on the lack of ambiance. That might be because it's an RP map, but absolute dead silence is best used sparingly or it just feels unfinished.
Id love to see more silent hill on this channel especially sh1 or downpour and thinking back on the subject of nd games two good ones come to mind, shadow ranch and ghost of Thornton hall
Silent Hill: cult turn small town into some type of weird liminal horror world by trying to birth "god". I like that the town just never recovers from this even after the cult is defeated.
If anyone played silent hill 1- 4. Playing Alchemilla Mod is a joy 'cause of how elements references stuff from each game... or at least it was for me. I felt nostalgic while playing that mod
Awesome map, you should do a playthrough of SH1. Original copy is expensive and hard to find, but the emulation works pretty well (aside from a few bugs). I saw the Boofcan video covering the emulation.
Alchmilla hospital only show up in SH1 and origins in other game it's renamed to Alchmilla general hospital and alchmilla asylum for the mentally ill. The fun facts my brain won't let go all the years later, love silent hill.
The oposite of Silent Hill is Loud Valley. I can see it still being a horror game because instead of periodically turning into hell, it periodically turns into heaven implying the player characer is dead. How existential. Silent Hill's monsters personifying people's crimes would be replaced with personifications of so called good deeds, but most good deeds these days are staged so these creatures endanger you so that they can save you over and over taking a bit of life every time. What would be the oposite of Pyramid Head?
Hey Librarian! Love your videos , especially gmod vr and votv series . Are you going to install some horror-sided addons for your "safety" on "jumpscare" type of maps ?
"Am I at soup?"
Well, at least you haven't been shopping for clothing.
My favorite line from silent hill was "you see them as monsters?" it sent chills down my back because i realized if the character felt differently, saw the world differently this place wouldn't be as much of a threat.
Remember that Laura in Silent Hill 2 never saw any monsters or any form of danger when she visited the town.
@@Techhunter_Talon huh, thats cool, guess i should look into silent hill
Considering that the speaker was later accosted by a human cultist from a group they used to be part of, it's up to interpretation whether that line is just screwing with you.

ty for writing this, it was nice :>
That was awesome, it makes a great opener to a short story.
I've been watching a shit ton of your old gmod vr exploration videos. Seeing the new ones amongst the older ones is such a blessing.
It's insane to me he might actually play alchemilla before playing sh3 or sh4 smh
This feels like someone simply ported the maps from the Silent Hill: Alchemilla mod as it's own thing. I have a distinct recollection of the dark room (26:33) being central to a puzzle in that mod.
yeah also, the rooms being soo big and overdimensioned makes it more playable with a third person camera, just like silent hills games
Would explain why room transitions are teleports instead of actual doors too
The hills are alive with the sound of silence
Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello darkness my old friend
GUNFIRE
The Silent Hill games are known for having amazing sound design and music, so the fact that this map is completely silent is kind of weird.
the hill is silent
Yeah especially the town with the mechanical industrial soundtrack and breathing set the mood great
This takes me back to the first video I watched from you. RP Asheville. I knew right away that I'd be watching your content for a long time.
That red symbol on the wall is more from silent hill 3 they were the saves, silent hill 2 had red squares saves
just had a stressful moment, thanks for getting this for me to calm down and to help others. you are the best.
Hey guys! I think I found some kind of... Silent Hill? Either way, seems pretty Dark.
I'm laughing my ass of you know that? So funny!!!!!!!
There’s something silent in these hills
🤣hilariou

7:50 we're finally going to get flashlight lore
Also, lol at the Happy Burger SH3 reference and the random Berserk poster with Guts on it.
These are actually compiled maps of a Half Life 2 mod, Silent Hill: Alchemella, hence why its way bigger than most gmod silent hill maps
Oh hell yes...Librarian and Silent hill in the same video? Time to watch this front to back.
Alchemilla seems like a good thing to play for Halloween.

Drinking game, take a shot each time librarian says fog or gets startled by a locked door sound effect

And also Shattered Memories, that one got creepy and comfy for days ;///;
Certified hood classic
Somewhat reminds me of the first Silent Hill movie!

Another blessed upload. itadakimasu!
red symbols in this map was being used in slender fortress 2 (team fortress community mode) and you need to take 8 red symbol to escape
You began in a place similar to the one close to alchimilla hospital in silient hill origins for the PSP. With those benches...
4:35 yep, i was right. That's where Travis wakes up after the house fire in Silent Hill Origins.
You spent all that time in Silent Hill and didn't order a pizza!?
This town isn’t full of monsters, how can you sit there and not eat pizza
Hey Librarian! Love your videos , especially gmod vr and votv series . Are you going to install some horror-sided addons for your "safety" on "jumpscare" type of maps ?
SHUT UP, I'M WATCHING LIBRARIAN!!!!!
its drawing inspiration from the real silent hill, i went there last year and got impaled by a pyramid head
I hate it when that happens. It’s so rude.
Oh hey I've explored that map before but filling it with npcs.
71st day of recommending 8:11
Green lion is from silent hill 1
its time for dinner!!!!!
YOOO NEW VIDEO
Yay yay yay yay yay yay yay yay!!
Love the new intro!!!! Who agree with me
Life sin. Didn't play arcade cabinet in game. Ding.
I think rp_silent_hill_dark is based off of the PSP game silent Hill origin's second level
cool
The opposite of silent hill is noisy plain.
I think it would be, deafening canyon
👍
Character developments for the flashlight!?
would you play any silent hill games on your channel?
😃😃😃😃😃😃
The librarian, can you play a game called "something bad is on the moon" please 😅.

Please, play Silent Hill Alchemilla mod!

Ooooo, now try visage please?
i don't know if you will see this, but what flashlight mod do you use?

You sound exactly like Report of the Week! Are you two related? Serious question.
46:40
Is this a Coraline reference?
damn... 9 comments... and 6 minutes...
GO BACK TO RUDMERGE DUDE YOU MISSED SO MUCH . JTS CRAZY
Day 144 of asking The Librarian to play 7 Days To Die
Day 14 of asking The Librarian to play Bendy And The Ink Machine
I would actually really enjoy a Batim series from The Librarian.
Cool to see u did it awsome
