The rack and pinion at least should have been replaced with new items. The wear will not be uniform, and will be worn more in the middle. Pushing the pinion further into mesh will end up with tight spots lock to lock. Cleanliness was non existent. I would consider that unsafe for the reasons given.
@@oneclickaway1 The point I was making is not really how long the repair would last, but it is not really a repair, but it is unsafe because the parts that wear in a rack and pinion system have not been replaced. It all depends what price you put on your life.

The steering rack and pinion wears unevenly that is why they are a replaceable item. Greasing it will not remove wear. That is not a classroom theory it is a fact. An engineer would have replaced the worn parts. Taking worn parts apart cleaning a re greasing and re assembling without checking wear etc is considered bad engineering practice @@Ceasar8980
