Its genuinely really hard to tell because we have regions without snow, reagons with alot of snow, and there's alot of rot in the trailer text itself the rot would be near or totally extinct after saints campaign, but that text and the rot effects in the trailer could just be for flavor
That, or perhaps this was BEFORE the iterators? that would explain how a desert and a snowy region exist at the same time, because the iterators aren't there to screw up the ecosystem- also this would mean we could finally find out how the ancients died!!!!
@@minodore5176This would be interesting since one of the pearls implies that the iterators are the main source of heat in their local ecosystems, and we see that with saint as FP's shutdown has caused perpetual snowfall, so biomes like deserts might not exist with iterators around. But I'm skeptical since there is another pearl implying that slugcats evolved out of purposed organisms designed by the iterators.
You can see active rot cysts in the background of the animated trailer, which, along with the sound effects and clouds, makes it highly likely that the trailer takes place on an iterator exterior. And unless this is another iterator we haven't physically met yet that also happens to be infested with the rot, it has to be Five Pebbles during the later stages of his illness. This makes it most likely that the Watcher takes place late in the timeline, close to Rivulet's campaign but obviously well before Saint. Although this is all assuming that the animated trailer actually depicts a real area that will be in the game (and that it's still a part of the downpour story), but with other parts of the trailer also having rot cysts makes me feel pretty certain that nightcat's campaign will at least have something to do with the rot.
There's no iterators visible in the sky area, and there's also little enough rain that there's a full on desert. I don't think the iterators exist at all here so if it is Pebbs it's post-Saint.
It could also be the other way. There is a spearmaster broadcast that shows a group gossiping that an iterator (pebbles) has the rot, which could imply that iterators already knew about the rot beforehand. If the rot existed before FP's shenanigans and this is set somewhere completely off the base map, or even relatively far off from it, it could be before spearmaster.

Ding ding ding theory!!!!! "A land fractured and warped" We are going to get 1 cycle snow and then 1 cycle sand. So you have to adjust your strat strategy back and forth between dealing with cold and maybe dealing with direct sun exposure? Could be some ancient experiment on flash freezing a region the ancients left running forever. There's definitely more than just that tho
Its gotta be BEFORE Saint, if you look at the blue lizard in the trailer its not the evolved kind that Saint deals with!! plus we literally get a desert region apparently lol
@@hallowfish9584 i have since been enlightened with information. i am working on a watcher masterdoc of everything we know so far and it is at 50 pages. it is unlikely that the watcher will coincide with downpour lore. the only evidence supporting watcher taking place far away is the steam page description, the pink screenshot with the lack of iterator cans in the background, and the sheer size of the modded regions being integrated. other than that we have no real clue yet. i am insane
I hope this scug can hide in the background, like if there's a wall or sum so the enemies can literally pass them by, or drag him out if they see them hide
I think this slugcats ability is just being able to pull a white lizard and camouflage itself in the enviroment, and its called watcher bc it watches the events around it while hidden in plain sight
this reminds me of a couple voice lines from the Payday 2 cloaker. "you wanted me back, so im back!" and "ive got your DLC right fucking here." specificaly. yes i thought to draw nightcat as a cloaker but im just not good enough at art to do so.
my intuition tells that night cat has some sort of shadow camouflage, id use the initial video and the fact that in the snow picture he is far back just on the shadow of the structure
I was thinking the sand and ground looks a lot different then any other ground in the game. I actually thought it was a weird form of water when I first saw it. Maybe depending on cycle or time the ground could raise or fall revealing or hiding paths.
for better or for worse, there will 100% be a new iterator to be met. The pinkish communications array can only mean another iterator, probably we'll be travelling past the slugcat tree into another iterator (god i hope its NSH)
(Edited because I misspelled Zootopia, like the stupid dumb dumb I am.) My hypostasis is that it's like Zootopia, asin it's all walled off, one side snow and ice, the other desert. Like some sick science experiment gone wrong, or perhaps, gone on too long... My other hypostasis is that we get some sick time travel ability, and either we can use it at any time, or perhaps only when using a shelter. Or hell, maybe this was just a terraforming project.
Here's my batshit insane theory We know Downpour and Vanilla RW are separate continuities What if Watcher doesn't take place in the Downpour continuity?
Why is nobody talking about the fact that on the wishlist poster image, nightcat has echo flakes behind them and is surrounded by those waves that seem to warp the background? My first guess was that these waves are pointing towards an echolocation ability and nightcat will literally run around at night, but they might also be connected to an echo.
I imagine the reason environments are so close to each other despite how INSANELY different they are is that they were like enclosures made by the ancients before they fell apart, I imagine containing mkre exotic wildlife which is where the new creatures come from, they've got out of containment and are roaming the halls and world they never got see.
I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but in the purple communications array room, there are no other structures in the background, no signal towers, and not a single iterator. This makes me think it's after saint
My theory is perhaps nightcat / the watcher is an echo? It fits with the name of the slugcat being the watcher and with the world below you cracking due to void fluid yet the trailer looking at the present time, plus at the end you can see some of the echo crystal things
It’s cool that VideoCult takes the amazing community of rain world and legitimizes the mods, plus it always console players to experience these regions.
regions shown off: Badlands (heavily modified and using the brand new 'snow' shader made by modder Slime Cubed in November) Stormy Coast (Spearmaster timeline version known as 'Shrouded Coast') Coral Caves Aether Ridge (once again modified to use the snow shader for real this time, but AR has a history of looking cold when it's secretly salt\brine, so maybe it's still warm) New region by 'Fishnoid' the Coral Caves\Badlands developer, inspired by a one-off gallery post they made on New Year's day in 2023 Aether Ridge again, but the 'Shattered Terrace' subregion, (which was supposed to lead to 'Gilded Sanctuary' which is confirmed not in the dlc) New region, but the modder 'Wrayk' who made Stormy Coast made a gallery post that was very similar a while ago. This region is very clearly inspired by 'OD' aka 'Old Drainage' aka 'Swamplands 3' from the (new) New Horizons mod.
Hmm... What if... this is a whole new region? A mix of a variety of fan made regions? Perhaps some new ones? It was described as warped. The implications of Void are heavy. Maybe the region has been altered by the Void to where its environments are erratic and each region having different biomes that shouldn't exist next to each other. And the title... all that rot has to say something as well, right?
i have found a region that might be in the DLC the trailer might be showing Aether Ridge i say that because it shares the color palette, and both the trailer and region contain Rot ALSO, the foggy region is Stormy Coast! i recognize the truss structures from the mod
I would really like a day/night cycle, like getting into a shelter and coming out at night and seeing different creatures/interactions in the night compared to the day
My theory is that those may not be sand and stow, a possibility that would make a bit more sense to make it so the temperatures line up a bit more would be if those were clouds in the desert ones were just a transition in a day night cycle
some of the screenshots MIGHT work if its Moon's city, the green stuff could be like battery acid or something similar, parts may be dry and hot if the city's also relied on the superstructure's intake of water, coral could work as ingame moon fell into shoreline, we only glimpse moon's city at a distance in one of the dlc slug's campaigns, the crumbling part could be about moon crumbling and the cities could be much larger than what we see in the democat campaign. Not sure how the snow could work tho :P
Im thinking that the watcher may take place over the entire span of Downpour and the base game. Maybe the "unseen lands" is referencing either before any other slugcat or after them all, when the world is "reviving" after the reign of the ancients. (some echos reference the ancients are one of many civilization to have come and gone, and I think it was a pearl? that mentioned there is a layer of "dust" that constantly builds up, to combat the void sea slowly consuming everything, thus continuing the cycle for even the ground itself.)
With all the talk about the void and warping, I think the most likely way they are going to handle all of the disparate and weird biomes is just to have all of them next to each other, like with the void rooms being remixed and reconnected versions of the upper rooms, or even having a room randomizer mechanic.
2:50 I'm sure that room is a very specific room in Garbage Wastes that's close to chimney (or industrial, i can't recall)'s karma gate. I went there with Artificer and vividly recall all the trips i made looking for a scav with enough karma. So, this probably happens so far into the future that garbage dried out?
I think it is after Saint. You can see many collapsed buildings which makes me think it’s a teaser for the world after Saint. Also this one is just a guess but I think it might be outside the facility grounds or a different one at least.
I have a few ideas. It makes me feel like this is after saint, specifically after the end of saints time-loop. The slugcats, all except like gourmand and rivulet, have some connection to the void. Yeah big stretch there, but you know, void has a pretty massive stick in the ground. One dlc for one character seems... Like it's gonna pull some wild funky shenanigans and void is like already a mechanic capable of doing some wild funky shenanigans. And the biome stuff, makes it feel like it's gonna be a terrarium style layout. Like where regions are different sub-sections of the world, but different times in the same region. The game after saint reaches max karma changes so drastically, why would they not lean into that? Hell, the letter art for the dlc name is covered in both rot and vines, that's gotta be there for a reason. Or maybe we just travel some ungodly distances and nightcat is just a skin for the other characters and everything teased is just arena stuff, idfk. Not a damn person in the world expected saint and still nobody understands it. Expecting what's gonna be in the dlc is litterally like throwing dynamite at a pond and expecting it to turn to dust. You might turn part of it to dust, or you might open a marriana's trench at the bottom of it as you find a fault line and next thing you know, California is now gone and god is kissing your wife even though you're in Greenland.
Personally I think they're talking about other iterators, maybe even cities, when they say "somewhere only climpsed at" I think of the top of the other iterators, the things you only see by climbing above the clouds and are only ever background objects, and the cities on top of them
I think that Watcher might take place pre-Spearmaster and deal with Sliver of Straw's disappearance. It would make sense, since Five Pebbles and many other "sliverists" believed the only way out was copying SoS, and not only do we know Pebbles fully believed SoS dying was the solution, but also he was messing around with the rot which hints that that could be how SoS achieved the triple affirmative to begin with. This might be wrong, though, since the description does mention a "cracked earth" and "warped world" that wouldn't make sense for that theory. Maybe it instead focuses on another sliverist like Seven Red Suns? In any case, I'm just happy to get more content.
It just hit me that the watcher is like dark blue. And what else is (sorta?) dark blue? ECHOES. He watches. And what else is watching? ECHOES. My first thought was immortality through long hibernations to see the world in its different times/eras, or time travel. What else is immortal and watches the world through all of its times/eras? ECHOES
and thus, your eternal duty to constantly remake flora/fauna every time a new DLC drops with new creatures will continue

The distant lands, with unknown creatures, far away, unknown, with climates that we had never seen before, I imagine a lot, but a lot that possibly the ancients, or what remains of them, we will find in this place...
4:42 There's bubble fruit *right there* it's not acid.
Garbage Wastes has the same green water too, no way it's acid.
@@Insanity5163 the liquid in the image is the Past Garbage Wastes shade of green though
i really hope the mast gets into the game, loved that region, and id love to see it be official. also one thing to note: iirc there was a codename for one of the up coming rainworld projects thats went by "seven red suns." it could just be a code name, but who knows. if we do see srs, i hope we can get to him as spearmaster, id love to see whatever new dialouge we could here.
im absolutely gonna stay clueless to nightcat real until it releases, i do not want a certified soiler to break my experience
They added a worm
I really hope they canonize scorched district because that region as well as the music slaps hard. Also pilgrims accent would also be really cool.
i never thought this day would come, but holy shit i'm glad it did
Bro really made a whole video on the day the trailer was made
Ding ding ding theory!!!!!
"A land fractured and warped"
We are going to get 1 cycle snow and then 1 cycle sand. So you have to adjust your strat
strategy back and forth between dealing with cold and maybe dealing with direct sun exposure? Could be some ancient experiment on flash freezing a region the ancients left running forever. There's definitely more than just that tho
Its gotta be BEFORE Saint, if you look at the blue lizard in the trailer its not the evolved kind that Saint deals with!! plus we literally get a desert region apparently lol
How do we know that I could not be at one of the other iterators places?
I’m excited to see all the backgrounds, they’re my favorite part of the game
I can't wait for the watcher segment on the dating sim so inv can date herself
The cat is of the night now: 🌙 🌌 🌙 🌌
The rot covering the cover text makes me think it’ll be a key component to the story
the watcher is watching
I was thinking the sand and ground looks a lot different then any other ground in the game. I actually thought it was a weird form of water when I first saw it. Maybe depending on cycle or time the ground could raise or fall revealing or hiding paths.
for better or for worse, there will 100% be a new iterator to be met. The pinkish communications array can only mean another iterator, probably we'll be travelling past the slugcat tree into another iterator (god i hope its NSH)
I hope is UI.
SRS bettah
(Edited because I misspelled Zootopia, like the stupid dumb dumb I am.) My hypostasis is that it's like Zootopia, asin it's all walled off, one side snow and ice, the other desert. Like some sick science experiment gone wrong, or perhaps, gone on too long... My other hypostasis is that we get some sick time travel ability, and either we can use it at any time, or perhaps only when using a shelter. Or hell, maybe this was just a terraforming project.
Finally more content for the funny drizzle planet
Ah great, now I have to memorise even MORE regions. Well so long as we don't get another pipeyard.
Here's my batshit insane theory
We know Downpour and Vanilla RW are separate continuities
What if Watcher doesn't take place in the Downpour continuity?
I’ve never liked the theory that DP and Vanilla are seperate continuities (except Inv of course)
Are they seperate? If so why is it that opening oe as gourmand opens it for monk and survivor?
@@YinAndYang_ii it has been said that Downpours story isn't canon to base Rain world. Downpour is (from what I know) basically official fan-fiction.
3:02 - This looks like the Stormy Coast fan zone. I really like that one, so I'm glad.
I had to scroll back up to see if i had seen the title right when i saw the video
it would be kind of funny if Daszombes would have to make another video talking about every creature in rainworld again just because of this DLC lol
ROT THEMED EXPANSION FUCKING W
Remember that Downpour had 6 scugs, this one has only 1
The map for this goober will be absolutely gigantic :pain:
My theory is perhaps nightcat / the watcher is an echo? It fits with the name of the slugcat being the watcher and with the world below you cracking due to void fluid yet the trailer looking at the present time, plus at the end you can see some of the echo crystal things
so hear me out
Time Travelling Slugcat
(Could explain the voidfluid stuff and the fact there's both a desert and a snowdrift)
that's also what i thought
It’s cool that VideoCult takes the amazing community of rain world and legitimizes the mods, plus it always console players to experience these regions.
the base game's artstyle already kinda resembles it but theese new rooms realy remind me of Frogmind's Badlands (an old mobile game)
rainworld needs more giant sawblades confirmed
Theory of mine: echo-scug, can visit same-ish places through different times
regions shown off:
Badlands (heavily modified and using the brand new 'snow' shader made by modder Slime Cubed in November)
Stormy Coast (Spearmaster timeline version known as 'Shrouded Coast')
Coral Caves
Aether Ridge (once again modified to use the snow shader for real this time, but AR has a history of looking cold when it's secretly salt\brine, so maybe it's still warm)
New region by 'Fishnoid' the Coral Caves\Badlands developer, inspired by a one-off gallery post they made on New Year's day in 2023
Aether Ridge again, but the 'Shattered Terrace' subregion, (which was supposed to lead to 'Gilded Sanctuary' which is confirmed not in the dlc)
New region, but the modder 'Wrayk' who made Stormy Coast made a gallery post that was very similar a while ago.
MY THEORY is that the watcher will have an ability to like radio scan stuff making a big circle wave to scan what are walls and stuff
all the new regions are so wallpaper worthy
Wasn't even two hours.
Never change, Das.
i have found a region that might be in the DLC
the trailer might be showing Aether Ridge
i say that because it shares the color palette, and both the trailer and region contain Rot
ALSO, the foggy region is Stormy Coast!
i recognize the truss structures from the mod
I would really like a day/night cycle, like getting into a shelter and coming out at night and seeing different creatures/interactions in the night compared to the day
I rained and then i worlded
“Is watcher void?”, okay Mossbag, we get it.
My theory is that those may not be sand and stow, a possibility that would make a bit more sense to make it so the temperatures line up a bit more would be if those were clouds in the desert ones were just a transition in a day night cycle
The screenshots look like the surroundings of an iterators can
Das has been sentenced to “One million years Rain World lore” yet again
some of the screenshots MIGHT work if its Moon's city, the green stuff could be like battery acid or something similar, parts may be dry and hot if the city's also relied on the superstructure's intake of water, coral could work as ingame moon fell into shoreline, we only glimpse moon's city at a distance in one of the dlc slug's campaigns, the crumbling part could be about moon crumbling and the cities could be much larger than what we see in the democat campaign.
2:46 : it’s course and rough and it gets everywhere!!
I’m sorry but I had to
3:00 Calling it now, the cacti will sometimes be full of spiders that burst out.
With all the talk about the void and warping, I think the most likely way they are going to handle all of the disparate and weird biomes is just to have all of them next to each other, like with the void rooms being remixed and reconnected versions of the upper rooms, or even having a room randomizer mechanic.
WHAAAAAAAT?! We're getting more?! I thought this was the end! YES
I was speculating the snow screenshot to be actually some kind of salt flats (salt flats real???)
I hope so that'd be so awesome
but wouldn’t that hurt the scug :(
I can't wait for A Not-So-Short Summary of the Lore of Rain World: The Watcher
nightcat redemption arc.
nightcat banned from videocult
comes back as the watcher
tossed into fan maps
thank you for listening
I CANNOT WAIT for this update, my excitement is SO high right now
THE NIGHTCAT IS REAL
I'm surprised that you didn't make a note of the strong presence of the Rot in the title text.
Wait, that's a screenshot of a snowy landscape?? I thought it was more sand dunes, but bathed in another light
ECHOES
